Observation of Unpinned Two-Dimensional Dirac States in Antimony Single Layers with Phosphorene Structure

The discovery of graphene has stimulated enormous interest in two-dimensional (2D) electron gas with linear band structure. 2D Dirac materials possess many intriguing physical properties such as high carrier mobility and zero-energy Landau level thanks to the relativistic dispersion and chiral spin/pseudospin texture. 2D Dirac states discovered so far are exclusively pinned at high-symmetry points of the Brillouin zone, for example, surface Dirac states at $\overlineΓ$ in topological insulators Bi$_2$Se(Te)$_3$ and Dirac cones at $K$ and $K'$ in graphene. In this work, we report the realization of 2D Dirac states at generic $k$-points in antimony atomic layers with phosphorene structure ($i.e.$ $α$-antimonene). The unpinned nature enables versatile ways to control the locations of the Dirac points in momentum space. In addition, dispersions around the unpinned Dirac points exhibit intrinsically anisotropic behaviors due to the reduced symmetry of generic momentum points. These properties make the $α$-antimonene films a promising platform for exploring interesting physics in unpinned 2D Dirac fermions that are distinct from the conventional Dirac states in graphene.

Direct Fidelity Estimation of Quantum States using Machine Learning

In almost all quantum applications, one of the key steps is to verify that the fidelity of the prepared quantum state meets expectations. In this Letter, we propose a new approach solving this problem using machine-learning techniques. Compared to other fidelity estimation methods, our method is applicable to arbitrary quantum states, the number of required measurement settings is small, and this number does not increase with the size of the system. For example, for a general five-qubit quantum state, only four measurement settings are required to predict its fidelity with $\pm1\%$ precision in a nonadversarial scenario. This machine-learning-based approach for estimating quantum state fidelity has the potential to be widely used in the field of quantum information.

Giant Topological Hall Effect in van der Waals Heterostructures of CrTe2/Bi2Te3

Discoveries of interfacial topological Hall effect (THE) provide an ideal platform for exploring physics arising from the interplay between topology and magnetism. The interfacial topological Hall effect is closely related to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) at interface and topological spin textures. However, it is difficult to achieve a sizable THE in heterostructures due to the stringent constraints on the constituents of THE heterostructures such as strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC). Here we report the observation of a giant THE signal of 1.39 $μΩ\cdot$cm in the van der Waals heterostructures of CrTe2/Bi2Te3 fabricated by molecular beam epitaxy, a prototype of two-dimensional (2D) ferromagnet (FM)/topological insulator (TI). This large magnitude of THE is attributed to an optimized combination of 2D ferromagnetism in CrTe2, strong SOC in Bi2Te3, and an atomically sharp interface. Our work reveals CrTe2/Bi2Te3 as a convenient platform for achieving large interfacial THE in hybrid systems, which could be utilized to develop quantum science and high-density information storage.

Dirac Fermion Cloning, Moir$\bf{é}$ Flat Bands and Magic Lattice Constants in Epitaxial Monolayer Graphene

Tuning interactions between Dirac states in graphene has attracted enormous interest because it can modify the electronic spectrum of the two-dimensional material, enhance electron correlations, and give rise to novel condensed-matter phases such as superconductors, Mott insulators, Wigner crystals and quantum anomalous Hall insulators. Previous works predominantly focus on the flat band dispersion of coupled Dirac states from different graphene layers. In this work, we propose a new route to realizing flat band physics in monolayer graphene under a periodic modulation from substrates. We take gaphene/SiC heterostructure as a role model and demonstrate experimentally the substrate modulation leads to Dirac fermion cloning and consequently, the proximity of the two Dirac cones of monolayer graphene in momentum space. Our theoretical modeling captures the cloning mechanism of Dirac states and indicates that flat bands can emerge at certain magic lattice constants of substrate when the period of modulation becomes nearly commensurate with the $(\sqrt{3}\times\sqrt{3})R30^{\circ}$ supercell of graphene. The results show that the epitaxial monolayer graphene is a promising platform for exploring exotic many-body quantum phases arising from interactions between Dirac electrons.

On-Chip Multiphoton Entangled States by Path Identity

Multiphoton entanglement, as a quantum resource, plays an essential role in linear optical quantum information processing. Krenn et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 118, 080401 2017) proposed an innovative scheme that generating entanglement by path identity, in which two-photon interference (called Hong-Ou-Mandel effect) is not necessary in experiment. However, the experiments in this scheme have strict requirements in stability and scalability, which is difficult to be realized in bulk optics. To solve this problem, in this paper we first propose an on-chip scheme to generate multi-photon polarization entangled states, including Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states and W states. Moreover, we also present a class of generalized graphs for W states (odd-number-photon) by path identity in theory. The on-chip scheme can be implemented in existing integrated optical technology which is meaningful for multi-party entanglement distribution in quantum communication networks.

Electronic and magnetic properties of perovskite selenite and tellurite compounds: CoSeO$_3$, NiSeO$_3$, CoTeO$_3$ and NiTeO$_3$

Selenium and tellurium are among the few elements that form $AB$O$_3$ perovskite structures with a four valent ion in the $A$ site. This leads to highly distorted structures and unusual magnetic behavior. Here we investigate the Co and Ni selenite and tellurite compounds, CoSeO$_3$, CoTeO$_3$, NiSeO$_3$ and NiTeO$_3$ using first principles calculations. We find an interplay of crystal field and Jahn-Teller distortions that underpin the electronic and magnetic properties. While all compounds are predicted to show an insulating G-type antiferromagnetic ground state, there is a considerable difference in the anisotropy of the exchange interactions between the Ni and Co compounds. This is related to the Jahn-Teller distortion. Finally, we observe that these four compounds show characteristics generally associated with Mott insulators, even when described at the level of standard density functional theory. These are then dense bulk band or Slater, Mott-type insulators.

Blind quantum computation for quantum Fourier transform on Bell states

It is called blind quantum computation(BQC) that a client who has limited quantum technologies can delegate her quantum computing to a server who has fully-advanced quantum computers. But the privacy of the client's quantum inputs, algorithms and outputs is still a challenge. To realize a secure BQC, we mainly study how to hide quantum fourier transform (QFT) performed on Bell states. In this paper, three cases are considered as follows. For the first case, we design primary BQC protocols of QFT performed on qubits 12 of belonging to $\{|ϕ^\pm\rangle_{12},$ $|ψ^\pm\rangle_{12}\}$ with relevant circuits. To strengthen security, we construct enhanced BQC protocols of QFT performed on qubits 13 of any two Bell states $|ξ\rangle_{12}\otimes|θ\rangle_{34}$ with relevant quantum circuits. Featured the property of stronger security, we give generalized BQC protocols of QFT performed on qubits 13 and 24 of any two Bell states with relevant quantum circuits respectively. At last, we analyze and prove the blindness and correctness.

Local distinguishability of quantum states in multipartite System

In this paper, we mainly study the local distinguishable multipartite quantum states by local operations and classical communication (LOCC) in $m_1\otimes m_2\otimes\ldots\otimes m_n$ , where the quantum system $m_1$ belongs to Alice, $m_2$ belongs to Bob, \ldots and $m_n$ belongs to Susan. We first present the pure tripartite distinguishable orthogonal quantum states by LOCC in $m_1\otimes m_2\otimes m_3$. With the conclusion in $m_1\otimes m_2\otimes m_3$, we prove distinguishability or indistinguishability of some quantum states. At last, we give the $n$-party distinguishable quantum states in $m_1\otimes m_2\otimes\cdots\otimes m_n$. Our study further reveals quantum nonlocality in multipartite high-dimensional.

Blind quantum computation for QFT on multi-qubit states

After quantum computers come out, governments and rich companies will have the abilities to buy these useful quantum computers, meanwhile they are familiar with these technologies proficiently. If a client wants to perform quantum computing but she does not have quantum computers with relevant quantum technologies. She can seek help from the server and pay his salary, but she does not want to leak anything to the server. Blind quantum computing (BQC) give a good method for the client to realized her quantum computing. In this article, we propose a new BQC protocol of quantum fourier transform (QFT) performed on multi-qubit states with a trusted, a client and a server, where the trusted center can generate resource states, the client can delegate her quantum computing to a server who can perform universal quantum computing without knowing anything about the client's inputs, algorithms and outputs. We first give the BQC protocols of three-qubit QFT with the equivalently quantum circuits, Greenberg-Horne-Zeilinger(GHZ) entangled states and W entangled states as examples. Further, we extend them to multi-qubit QFT on multi-qubit with the equivalently quantum circuits. At last, we give the analyses and proofs of the blindness and correctness.

A Hybrid and Universal Blind Quantum Computation

In blind quantum computation (BQC), a client delegates her quantum computation to a server with universal quantum computers who learns nothing about the client's private information. In measurement-based BQC model, entangled states are generally used to realize quantum computing. However, to generate a large-scale entangled state in experiment becomes a challenge issue. In circuit-based BQC model, single-qubit gates can be realized precisely, but entangled gates are probabilistically successful. This remains a challenge to realize entangled gates with a deterministic method in some systems. To solve above two problems, we propose the first hybrid universal BQC protocol based on measurements and circuits, where the client prepares single-qubit states and the server performs universal quantum computing. We analyze and prove the correctness, blindness and verifiability of the proposed protocol.

Local distinguishability of quantum states in bipartite systems

In this article, we show a sufficient and necessary condition for locally distinguishable bipartite states via one-way local operations and classical communication (LOCC). With this condition, we present some minimal structures of one-way LOCC indistinguishable quantum state sets. As long as an indistinguishable subset exists in a state set, the set is not distinguishable. We also list several distinguishable sets as instances.

Direct demonstration of the emergent magnetism resulting from the multivalence Mn in a LaMnO3 epitaxial thin film system

Atomically engineered oxide heterostructures provide a fertile ground for creating novel states. For example, a two-dimensional electron gas at the interface between two oxide insulators, giant thermoelectric Seebeck coefficient, emergent ferromagnetism from otherwise nonmagnetic components, and colossal ionic conductivity. Extensive research efforts reveal that oxygen deficiency or lattice strain play an important role in determining these unexpected properties. Herein, by studying the abrupt presence of robust ferromagnetism (up to 1.5 uB/Mn) in LaMnO3-based heterostructures, we find the multivalence states of Mn that play a decisive role in the emergence of ferromagnetism in the otherwise antiferromagnetic LaMnO3 thin films. Combining spatially resolved electron energy-loss spectroscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism techniques, we determine unambiguously that the ferromagnetism results from a conventional Mn3+-O-Mn4+ double-exchange mechanism rather than an interfacial effect. In contrast, the magnetic dead layer of 5 unit cell in proximity to the interface is found to be accompanied with the accumulation of Mn2+ induced by electronic reconstruction. These findings provide a hitherto-unexplored multivalence state of Mn on the emergent magnetism in undoped manganite epitaxial thin films, such as LaMnO3 and BiMnO3, and shed new light on all-oxide spintronic devices.
