Transformers as Intrinsic Optimizers for Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm

The Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA) is a leading variational framework for combinatorial optimization on noisy intermediate-scale quantum hardware, but its practical performance depends strongly on the classical optimizer used to train its variational parameters. This outer-loop optimization is often nonconvex, initialization-sensitive, and costly when repeated across large families of related problem instances. In this work, we propose a Transformer-based intrinsic optimization framework for QAOA, in which the optimizer itself is learned and embedded directly into the hybrid quantum-classical loop. The proposed graph-conditioned Transformer processes problem structure, current QAOA parameters, measurement feedback, and recent optimization history to predict the next variational-parameter update, thereby reformulating instance-wise classical optimization as an amortized learned policy. We develop a mathematical formulation of this intrinsic-optimization perspective and evaluate the method on QAOA-based MaxCut benchmarks across multiple problem settings, with comparisons against representative classical and learned optimization baselines. The results demonstrate that Transformer-based intrinsic optimization can provide a structured and transferable mechanism for improving the classical component of hybrid quantum optimization algorithms.

Exact spectrum of the XX spin chain with constrained non-diagonal boundary fields

We study the exact spectrum of the XX spin chain with constrained non-diagonal boundary fields, which can be analyzed by solving the associated Bethe Ansatz equations. In these equations, the number of Bethe roots has a definite parity, and all Bethe roots are located at the zeros of a unary function. We investigate the possible positions of the Bethe roots. Based on numerical observations, we analyze the Bethe root configurations for the ground state and the first excited state. Our results show that elementary excitations are characterized by the cooperative change of a pair of Bethe roots. Furthermore, we obtain an analytical expression for the ground state energy in the thermodynamic limit.

Tensor-Network Analysis of Root Patterns in the XXX Model with Open Boundaries

The string hypothesis of Bethe roots is a cornerstone in the thermodynamic analysis of quantum integrable systems, since it connects root configurations with physical quantities such as the ground-state energy, surface energy and excitation spectra. For integrable models with \(U(1)\) symmetry, this connection is well established. When the \(U(1)\) symmetry is broken by generic non-diagonal boundary fields, however, the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz leads to an inhomogeneous \(T\text{--}Q\) relation whose Bethe roots have highly nontrivial distributions. This raises two fundamental questions: whether the zero roots and the ODBA Bethe roots still possess regular and classifiable structures in the large-size limit, and whether such structures can be used to extract physical quantities. In this work, we address these two questions for the isotropic Heisenberg spin chain with non-diagonal open boundaries. By combining tensor-network algorithms with Bethe-Ansatz techniques, we determine the zero-root and Bethe-root configurations associated with the \(Λ\text{--}θ\) relation and the inhomogeneous Bethe Ansatz equations for large system sizes, up to \(N\simeq 60\) and \(100\). We find that, despite the absence of \(U(1)\) symmetry, the roots exhibit well-organized patterns. The zero roots form bulk strings, boundary strings and additional roots, while the ODBA Bethe roots split into four geometric classes: regular roots, line roots, arc roots and paired-line roots.

Heterogeneous Optically-Detected Spin-Acoustic Resonance in Solid-State Molecular Thin-film

We report an implementation of spin-acoustic resonance in pentacene thin films integrated on a high-quality-factor (high-Q) surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonator on a lithium niobate substrate. Heterogeneous optically detected spin-acoustic resonance (HODSAR) is an optically detected spin-resonance measurement in which the resonant drive is delivered mechanically by a surface acoustic wave (SAW). By leveraging the photo-excited triplet state of pentacene at room temperature, we demonstrate coherent spin manipulation via acoustic driving under zero externally applied magnetic field. The heterogeneously integrated device, referred to as HODSAR, utilizes spin-phonon coupling to achieve mechanically driven, zero-field spin resonance, opening avenues for room-temperature mechanically addressable spin control and device integration. We show that the high-Q multimode response of the SAW resonator enables spectrally selective acoustic addressing of triplet transitions near 105 MHz. Coherent control is evidenced by Rabi oscillations, with a Rabi frequency that increases linearly with the square root of the applied RF input power over the measured drive range, consistent with driven two-level dynamics under acoustic excitation. These results establish spin-acoustic resonance in a heterogeneously integrated molecular thin-film platform and provide a quantitative basis for benchmarking mechanically mediated spin control.

Fusion approach for quantum integrable system associated with the $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$ Lie superalgebra

In this work we obtain the exact solution of quantum integrable system associated with the Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$, both for periodic and for generic open boundary conditions. By means of the fusion technique we derive a closed set of operator identities among the fused transfer matrices. These identities allow us to determine the complete energy spectrum and the corresponding Bethe ansatz equations of the model. Our approach furnishes a systematic framework for studying the spectra of quantum integrable models based on Lie superalgebras, in particular when the $U(1)$ symmetry is broken. The derivation of the Bethe states from the exact spectrum is also addressed.

Consensus-based Distributed Quantum Kernel Learning for Speech Recognition

This paper presents a Consensus-based Distributed Quantum Kernel Learning (CDQKL) framework aimed at improving speech recognition through distributed quantum computing.CDQKL addresses the challenges of scalability and data privacy in centralized quantum kernel learning. It does this by distributing computational tasks across quantum terminals, which are connected through classical channels. This approach enables the exchange of model parameters without sharing local training data, thereby maintaining data privacy and enhancing computational efficiency. Experimental evaluations on benchmark speech emotion recognition datasets demonstrate that CDQKL achieves competitive classification accuracy and scalability compared to centralized and local quantum kernel learning models. The distributed nature of CDQKL offers advantages in privacy preservation and computational efficiency, making it suitable for data-sensitive fields such as telecommunications, automotive, and finance. The findings suggest that CDQKL can effectively leverage distributed quantum computing for large-scale machine-learning tasks.

Move aside pentacene: Diazapentacene doped para-terphenyl as a zero-field room-temperature maser with strong coupling for cavity quantum electrodynamics

Masers, the microwave analogue of lasers, promise to deliver ultra-low noise amplification of microwave signals for use in medical MRI imaging and deep-space communication. Research on masers in modern times was rekindled thanks to the discovery of gain media that were operable at room-temperature, eschewing bulky cryogenics that hindered their use. However, besides the two known materials of pentacene doped in para-terphenyl and negatively-charged nitrogen-vacancy defects in diamond, there has been scarce progress in the search for completely new room-temperature gain media. Here we show the discovery of 6,13-diazapentacene doped in para-terphenyl as a maser gain medium that can operate at room-temperature and without an external magnetic field. A measured maser pulse power of -10 dBm shows it is on par with pentacene-doped para-terphenyl in absolute power, while possessing compelling advantages against its pentacene predecessor in that it has a faster amplification startup time, can be excited with longer wavelength light at 620 nm and enjoys greater chemical stability from added nitrogen groups. Furthermore, we show that the maser bursts allow 6,13-diazapentacene-doped para-terphenyl to reach the strong coupling regime for cavity quantum electrodynamics, where it has a high cooperativity of 182. We study the optical and microwave spin dynamics of 6,13-diazapentacene-doped para-terphenyl in order to evaluate its behavior as a maser gain medium, where it features fast intersystem crossing and an advantageously higher triplet quantum yield. Our results pave the way for the future discovery of other similar maser materials and help point to such materials as promising candidates for the study of cavity quantum electrodynamic effects at room-temperature.

Exact solution of the quantum integrable model associated with the twisted $D^{(2)}_3$ algebra

We generalize the nested off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method to study the quantum chain associated with the twisted $D^{(2)}_3$ algebra (or the $D^{(2)}_3$ model) with either periodic or integrable open boundary conditions. We obtain the intrinsic operator product identities among the fused transfer matrices and find a way to close the recursive fusion relations, which makes it possible to determinate eigenvalues of transfer matrices with an arbitrary anisotropic parameter $η$. Based on them, and the asymptotic behaviors and values at certain points, we construct eigenvalues of transfer matrices in terms of homogeneous $T-Q$ relations for the periodic case and inhomogeneous ones for the open case with some off-diagonal boundary reflections. The associated Bethe ansatz equations are also given. The method and results in this paper can be generalized to the $D^{(2)}_{n+1}$ model and other high rank integrable models.

Thermodynamic limit and boundary energy of the spin-1 Heisenberg chain with non-diagonal boundary fields

The thermodynamic limit and boundary energy of the isotropic spin-1 Heisenberg chain with non-diagonal boundary fields are studied. The finite size scaling properties of the inhomogeneous term in the $ T-Q $ relation at the ground state are calculated by the density matrix renormalization group. Based on our findings, the boundary energy of the system in the thermodynamic limit can be obtained from Bethe ansatz equations of a related model with parallel boundary fields. These results can be generalized to the $SU(2)$ symmetric high spin Heisenberg model directly.

Swarm Herding: A Leader-Follower Framework For Multi-Robot Navigation

A leader-follower framework is proposed for multi-robot navigation of large scale teams where the leader agents corral the follower agents. A group of leaders is modeled as a 2D deformable object where discrete masses (i.e., leader robots) are interconnected by springs and dampers. A time-varying domain is defined by the positions of leaders while the external forces induce deformations of the domain from its nominal configuration. The team of followers is performing coverage over the time-varying domain by employing a perspective transformation that maps between the nominal and deformed configurations. A decentralized control strategy is proposed where a leader only takes local sensing information and information about its neighbors (connected by virtual springs and dampers), and a follower only needs partial information about leaders and information about its Delaunay neighbors.

Exact solutions of the $C_n$ quantum spin chain

We study the exact solutions of quantum integrable model associated with the $C_n$ Lie algebra, with either a periodic or an open one with off-diagonal boundary reflections, by generalizing the nested off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method. Taking the $C_3$ as an example we demonstrate how the generalized method works. We give the fusion structures of the model and provide a way to close fusion processes. Based on the resulted operator product identities among fused transfer matrices and some necessary additional constraints such as asymptotic behaviors and relations at some special points, we obtain the eigenvalues of transfer matrices and parameterize them as homogeneous $T-Q$ relations in the periodic case or inhomogeneous ones in the open case. We also give the exact solutions of the $C_n$ model with an off-diagonal open boundary condition. The method and results in this paper can be generalized to other high rank integrable models associated with other Lie algebras.

Thermodynamic limit of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ XYZ spin chain with the antiperiodic boundary condition

Based on its off-diagonal Bethe ansatz solution, we study the thermodynamic limit of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ XYZ spin chain with the antiperiodic boundary condition. The key point of our method is that there exist some degenerate points of the crossing parameter $η_{m,l}$, at which the associated inhomogeneous $T-Q$ relation becomes a homogeneous one. This makes extrapolating the formulae deriving from the homogeneous one to an arbitrary $η$ with $O(N^{-2})$ corrections for a large $N$ possible. The ground state energy and elementary excitations of the system are obtained. By taking the trigonometric limit, we also give the results of antiperiodic XXZ spin chain within the gapless region in the thermodynamic limit, which does not have any degenerate points.

Graded Off-diagonal Bethe ansatz solution of the $SU(2|2)$ spin chain model with generic integrable boundaries

The graded off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method is proposed to study supersymmetric quantum integrable models (i.e., quantum integrable models associated with superalgebras). As an example, the exact solutions of the $SU(2|2)$ vertex model with both periodic and generic open boundary conditions are constructed. By generalizing the fusion techniques to the supersymmetric case, a closed set of operator product identities about the transfer matrices are derived, which allows us to give the eigenvalues in terms of homogeneous or inhomogeneous $T-Q$ relations. The method and results provided in this paper can be generalized to other high rank supersymmetric quantum integrable models.

Multi-Agent Control Using Coverage Over Time-Varying Domains

Multi-agent coverage control is used as a mechanism to influence the behavior of a group of robots by introducing time-varying domain. The coverage optimization problem is modified to adopt time-varying domains, and the proposed control law possesses an exponential convergence characteristic. Cumbrous control for many robots is simplified by deploying distribution and behavior of the robot team as a whole. In the proposed approach, the inputs to the multi-agent system, i.e., time-varying density and time-varying domain, are agnostic to the size of the system. Analytic expressions of surface and line integrals present in the control law are obtained under uniform density. The scalability of the proposed control strategy is explained and verified via numerical simulation. Experiments on real robots are used to test the proposed control law.
