Constructing Four-Body Ballistic Lunar Transfers via Analytical Energy Conditions

The current lunar exploration, particularly the regular large-scale cargo transportation in the Earth-Moon system proposes requirements for amount of low-energy lunar transfers. The conventional grid-search method to construct low-energy lunar transfers suffers from extensive computational effort and large-scale searches. To further improve the method, this paper focuses on one type of low-energy lunar transfers termed ballistic lunar transfers, and derives prior knowledge to narrow the scale of searches. The Sun-Earth/Moon planar bicircular restricted four-body problem (PBCR4BP) is adopted as the dynamical model to construct lunar transfers. First, the analytical conditions for ballistic capture are derived and summarized in form of exact ranges of the Jacobi energy at the lunar insertion point. Both sufficient and necessary condition and necessary condition are developed. These conditions suggest an important role of the Sun-Earth/Moon PBCR4BP rather than the Earth-Moon planar restricted three-body problem in achieving lunar ballistic capture. Then, a grid-search method combined with the analytical energy conditions is proposed to construct ballistic lunar transfers. Simulations shows that a high ballistic capture ratio is achieved by the proposed method (99.87% for direct insertion and 98.72% for retrograde insertion). Examining the obtained ballistic lunar transfers, the effectiveness of the analytical energy conditions is verified. Samples of our obtained lunar transfers achieves lower or comparable impulses compared to solutions obtained in the previous works. Solutions belonging to new or less-reported transfer families are also presented, and the potential engineering applications of these trajectories are briefly discussed.

Energy Transition Domain and Its Application in Constructing Gravity-Assist Escape Trajectories

This Note proposes the concept and theory of energy transition domain (ETD) defined by the mechanical energy of spacecraft in the Earth-Moon planar circular restricted three-body problem (PCR3BP) inspired by the pioneering work from Ano{è} et al. (2024) on the ETD defined by the two-body energy with respect to the secordary body in the PCR3BP. An effective construction method of gravity-assist escape trajectories is then proposed. Firstly, the concept of the ETD defined by the mechanical energy is presented, and its dependency on the Jacobi energy is analyzed. This dependency may provide prior knowledge about selecting the range of the Jacobi energy in the construction of escape trajectories. Then, gravity-assist escape trajectories departing from the 167 km low Earth orbit and 36000 km geosynchronous Earth orbit are constructed based on the ETD. The initial states are selected in the sphere of influence of the Moon, and the trajectories are searched from the forward and backward integration. Finally, the obtained solutions are presented and analyzed.

Fast LiDAR Data Generation with Rectified Flows

Building LiDAR generative models holds promise as powerful data priors for restoration, scene manipulation, and scalable simulation in autonomous mobile robots. In recent years, approaches using diffusion models have emerged, significantly improving training stability and generation quality. Despite their success, diffusion models require numerous iterations of running neural networks to generate high-quality samples, making the increasing computational cost a potential barrier for robotics applications. To address this challenge, this paper presents R2Flow, a fast and high-fidelity generative model for LiDAR data. Our method is based on rectified flows that learn straight trajectories, simulating data generation with significantly fewer sampling steps compared to diffusion models. We also propose an efficient Transformer-based model architecture for processing the image representation of LiDAR range and reflectance measurements. Our experiments on unconditional LiDAR data generation using the KITTI-360 dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in terms of both efficiency and quality.

A Euclidean Distance Matrix Model for Convex Clustering

Clustering has been one of the most basic and essential problems in unsupervised learning due to various applications in many critical fields. The recently proposed sum-of-norms (SON) model by Pelckmans et al. (2005), Lindsten et al. (2011) and Hocking et al. (2011) has received a lot of attention. The advantage of the SON model is the theoretical guarantee in terms of perfect recovery, established by Sun et al. (2018). It also provides great opportunities for designing efficient algorithms for solving the SON model. The semismooth Newton based augmented Lagrangian method by Sun et al. (2018) has demonstrated its superior performance over the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) and the alternating minimization algorithm (AMA). In this paper, we propose a Euclidean distance matrix model based on the SON model. An efficient majorization penalty algorithm is proposed to solve the resulting model. Extensive numerical experiments are conducted to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed model and the majorization penalty algorithm.

A Privacy-Preserving Domain Adversarial Federated learning for multi-site brain functional connectivity analysis

Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) and its derived functional connectivity networks (FCNs) have become critical for understanding neurological disorders. However, collaborative analyses and the generalizability of models still face significant challenges due to privacy regulations and the non-IID (non-independent and identically distributed) property of multiple data sources. To mitigate these difficulties, we propose Domain Adversarial Federated Learning (DAFed), a novel federated deep learning framework specifically designed for non-IID fMRI data analysis in multi-site settings. DAFed addresses these challenges through feature disentanglement, decomposing the latent feature space into domain-invariant and domain-specific components, to ensure robust global learning while preserving local data specificity. Furthermore, adversarial training facilitates effective knowledge transfer between labeled and unlabeled datasets, while a contrastive learning module enhances the global representation of domain-invariant features. We evaluated DAFed on the diagnosis of ASD and further validated its generalizability in the classification of AD, demonstrating its superior classification accuracy compared to state-of-the-art methods. Additionally, an enhanced Score-CAM module identifies key brain regions and functional connectivity significantly associated with ASD and MCI, respectively, uncovering shared neurobiological patterns across sites. These findings highlight the potential of DAFed to advance multi-site collaborative research in neuroimaging while protecting data confidentiality.

HSFusion: A high-level vision task-driven infrared and visible image fusion network via semantic and geometric domain transformation

Infrared and visible image fusion has been developed from vision perception oriented fusion methods to strategies which both consider the vision perception and high-level vision task. However, the existing task-driven methods fail to address the domain gap between semantic and geometric representation. To overcome these issues, we propose a high-level vision task-driven infrared and visible image fusion network via semantic and geometric domain transformation, terms as HSFusion. Specifically, to minimize the gap between semantic and geometric representation, we design two separate domain transformation branches by CycleGAN framework, and each includes two processes: the forward segmentation process and the reverse reconstruction process. CycleGAN is capable of learning domain transformation patterns, and the reconstruction process of CycleGAN is conducted under the constraint of these patterns. Thus, our method can significantly facilitate the integration of semantic and geometric information and further reduces the domain gap. In fusion stage, we integrate the infrared and visible features that extracted from the reconstruction process of two seperate CycleGANs to obtain the fused result. These features, containing varying proportions of semantic and geometric information, can significantly enhance the high level vision tasks. Additionally, we generate masks based on segmentation results to guide the fusion task. These masks can provide semantic priors, and we design adaptive weights for two distinct areas in the masks to facilitate image fusion. Finally, we conducted comparative experiments between our method and eleven other state-of-the-art methods, demonstrating that our approach surpasses others in both visual appeal and semantic segmentation task.

CTC-based Non-autoregressive Speech Translation

Combining end-to-end speech translation (ST) and non-autoregressive (NAR) generation is promising in language and speech processing for their advantages of less error propagation and low latency. In this paper, we investigate the potential of connectionist temporal classification (CTC) for non-autoregressive speech translation (NAST). In particular, we develop a model consisting of two encoders that are guided by CTC to predict the source and target texts, respectively. Introducing CTC into NAST on both language sides has obvious challenges: 1) the conditional independent generation somewhat breaks the interdependency among tokens, and 2) the monotonic alignment assumption in standard CTC does not hold in translation tasks. In response, we develop a prediction-aware encoding approach and a cross-layer attention approach to address these issues. We also use curriculum learning to improve convergence of training. Experiments on the MuST-C ST benchmarks show that our NAST model achieves an average BLEU score of 29.5 with a speed-up of 5.67$\times$, which is comparable to the autoregressive counterpart and even outperforms the previous best result of 0.9 BLEU points.

An Attention-Guided and Wavelet-Constrained Generative Adversarial Network for Infrared and Visible Image Fusion

The GAN-based infrared and visible image fusion methods have gained ever-increasing attention due to its effectiveness and superiority. However, the existing methods adopt the global pixel distribution of source images as the basis for discrimination, which fails to focus on the key modality information. Moreover, the dual-discriminator based methods suffer from the confrontation between the discriminators. To this end, we propose an attention-guided and wavelet-constrained GAN for infrared and visible image fusion (AWFGAN). In this method, two unique discrimination strategies are designed to improve the fusion performance. Specifically, we introduce the spatial attention modules (SAM) into the generator to obtain the spatial attention maps, and then the attention maps are utilized to force the discrimination of infrared images to focus on the target regions. In addition, we extend the discrimination range of visible information to the wavelet subspace, which can force the generator to restore the high-frequency details of visible images. Ablation experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in eliminating the confrontation between discriminators. And the comparison experiments on public datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method.

The NiuTrans End-to-End Speech Translation System for IWSLT 2021 Offline Task

This paper describes the submission of the NiuTrans end-to-end speech translation system for the IWSLT 2021 offline task, which translates from the English audio to German text directly without intermediate transcription. We use the Transformer-based model architecture and enhance it by Conformer, relative position encoding, and stacked acoustic and textual encoding. To augment the training data, the English transcriptions are translated to German translations. Finally, we employ ensemble decoding to integrate the predictions from several models trained with the different datasets. Combining these techniques, we achieve 33.84 BLEU points on the MuST-C En-De test set, which shows the enormous potential of the end-to-end model.

A compressive sensing based parameter estimation for free space continuous variable quantum key distribution

In satellite-based free-space continuous-variable QKD (CV-QKD), the parameter estimation for the atmospheric channel fluctuations due to the turbulence effects and attenuation is crucial for analyzing and improving the protocol performance. In this paper, compressive sensing (CS) theory is applied to free-space CV-QKD to achieve the channel parameter estimation with low computational complexity and small amount of data. According to CS theory, the possibility of the sparse representation for free-space channel is analyzed and the two types of sparse reconstruction models for the channel parameters are constructed combining with the stability of the sub-channels. The most part of variable for parameter estimation is saved by using the model relying on the variables in the quantum signals, while all the variables can be used to generate the secret key by using the model relying on the second-order statistics of the variables. The methods are well adapted for the cases with the limited communication time since a little or no variable is sacrificed for parameter estimation. Finally, simulation results are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Sparse Reconstruction for Radar Imaging based on Quantum Algorithms

The sparse-driven radar imaging can obtain the high-resolution images about target scene with the down-sampled data. However, the huge computational complexity of the classical sparse recovery method for the particular situation seriously affects the practicality of the sparse imaging technology. In this paper, this is the first time the quantum algorithms are applied to the image recovery for the radar sparse imaging. Firstly, the radar sparse imaging problem is analyzed and the calculation problem to be solved by quantum algorithms is determined. Then, the corresponding quantum circuit and its parameters are designed to ensure extremely low computational complexity, and the quantum-enhanced reconstruction algorithm for sparse imaging is proposed. Finally, the computational complexity of the proposed method is analyzed, and the simulation experiments with the raw radar data are illustrated to verify the validity of the proposed method.

Feasibility of space-based measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution

The measurement-device-independent (MDI) QKD is considered to be an alternative to overcome the currently trusted satellite paradigm. However, the feasibility of the space-based MDI-QKD remains unclear in terms of the factors: the high-loss uplink between a ground station and a satellite, the limited duration when two ground stations are simultaneously visible, as well as the rigorous requirements for the two-photon interference when performing the Bell-state Measurement (BSM). In this paper, we present a feasibility assessment of space-based MDI-QKD based on the Micius satellite. Integrated with the orbital dynamics model and atmosphere channel model, a framework is presented to explore the whole parameters space including orbit height, elevation angle, apertures of transceiver and atmospheric turbulence intensity to give the considerations for improving key rates and subsequently provide a relevant parameter tradeoff for the implementation of space-based MDI-QKD. We further investigate the heart of MDI-QKD, the two-photon interference considerations such as the frequency calibration and time synchronization technology against Doppler shift, and the way of performing the intensity optimization method in the dynamic and asymmetric channels. Our work can be used as a pathfinder to support decisions involving as the selection of the future quantum communication satellite missions.
