Hash function based secret sharing scheme designs

Secret sharing schemes create an effective method to safeguard a secret by dividing it among several participants. By using hash functions and the herding hashes technique, we first set up a (t+1, n) threshold scheme which is perfect and ideal, and then extend it to schemes for any general access structure. The schemes can be further set up as proactive or verifiable if necessary. The setup and recovery of the secret is efficient due to the fast calculation of the hash function. The proposed scheme is flexible because of the use of existing hash functions.

Improved Latin Square based Secret Sharing Scheme

This paper first reviews some basic properties of cryptographic hash function, secret sharing scheme, and Latin square. Then we discuss why Latin square or its critical set is a good choice for secret representation and its relationship with secret sharing scheme. Further we enumerate the limitations of Latin square in a secret sharing scheme. Finally we propose how to apply cryptographic hash functions, herding attack technique to a Latin square based secret sharing scheme to overcome these limitations.

Enhancements to A Lightweight RFID Authentication Protocol

Vajda and Buttyan (VB) proposed a set of five lightweight RFID authentication protocols. Defend, Fu, and Juels (DFJ) did cryptanalysis on two of them - XOR and SUBSET. To the XOR protocol, DFJ proposed repeated keys attack and nibble attack. In this paper, we identify the vulnerability existed in the original VB's successive session key permutation algorithm. We propose three enhancements to prevent DFJ's attacks and make XOR protocol stronger without introducing extra resource cost.

Post-Quantum Key Exchange Protocols

If an eavesdropper Eve is equipped with quantum computers, she can easily break the public key exchange protocols used today. In this paper we will discuss the post-quantum Diffie-Hellman key exchange and private key exchange protocols.

A Chaotic Cipher Mmohocc and Its Security Analysis

In this paper we introduce a new chaotic stream cipher Mmohocc which utilizes the fundamental chaos characteristics. The designs of the major components of the cipher are given. Its cryptographic properties of period, auto- and cross-correlations, and the mixture of Markov processes and spatiotemporal effects are investigated. The cipher is resistant to the related-key-IV attacks, Time/Memory/Data tradeoff attacks, algebraic attacks, and chosen-text attacks. The keystreams successfully passed two batteries of statistical tests and the encryption speed is comparable with RC4.

A Chaotic Cipher Mmohocc and Its Randomness Evaluation

After a brief introduction to a new chaotic stream cipher Mmohocc which utilizes the fundamental chaos characteristics of mixing, unpredictability, and sensitivity to initial conditions, we conducted the randomness statistical tests against the keystreams generated by the cipher. Two batteries of most stringent randomness tests, namely the NIST Suite and the Diehard Suite, were performed. The results showed that the keystreams have successfully passed all the statistical tests. We conclude that Mmohocc can generate high-quality pseudorandom numbers from a statistical point of view.

Multi-Map Orbit Hopping Chaotic Stream Cipher

In this paper we propose a multi-map orbit hopping chaotic stream cipher that utilizes the idea of spread spectrum mechanism for secure digital communications and fundamental chaos characteristics of mixing, unpredictable, and extremely sensitive to initial conditions. The design, key and subkeys, and detail implementation of the system are addressed. A variable number of well studied chaotic maps form a map bank. And the key determines how the system hops between multiple orbits, and it also determines the number of maps, the number of orbits for each map, and the number of sample points for each orbits. A detailed example is provided.

Huge enhancement of electronmechanical responses in compositionally modulated PZT

Monte Carlo simulations based on a first-principles-derived Hamiltonian are conducted to study the properties of PZT alloys compositionally modulated along the [100] pseudocubic direction near the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB). It is shown that compositional modulation causes the polarization to continuously rotate away from the modulation direction, resulting in the unusual triclinic and C-type monoclinic ground states and huge enhancement of electromechanical responses (the peak of piezoelectric coefficient is as high as 30000 pC/N). The orientation dependence of dipole-dipole interaction in modulated structure is revealed as the microscopic mechanism to be responsible for these anomalies.
