Graph Structure of Chebyshev Permutation Polynomials over Binary and Ternary Adic Rings

Understanding the functional graph of a nonlinear map over a finite domain is crucial for analyzing its dynamical complexity and potential applications in cryptography and pseudorandom generation. In this paper, we investigate the graph structure of Chebyshev permutation polynomials over the ring $\mathbb{Z}_{2^{k_1}3^{k_2}}$, where $k_1$ and $k_2$ are positive integers and $0\in\{k_1, k_2\}$. Each element of the ring is regarded as a vertex, and the mapping relation defined by the polynomial corresponds to a directed edge. Building on new properties of Chebyshev polynomials modulo powers of $2$ and $3$, we provide an explicit characterization of path lengths and cycle structures in the functional graph. We show that, despite the complexities introduced by the binary and ternary components, the graph exhibits strong regularities, including a constant number of cycles of a given length and predictable branching patterns as $k_1$ and $k_2$ increase. Our results extend previous studies over prime-power rings, offering insights into the emergence of complexity in digital nonlinear maps and supporting the security analysis of their cryptographic applications.

The Graph Structure of Chebyshev Permutation Polynomials over Ring $\mathbb{Z}_{p^k}$

Understanding the underlying graph structure of a nonlinear map over a particular domain is essential in evaluating its potential for real applications. In this paper, we investigate the structure of the associated \textit{functional graph} of Chebyshev permutation polynomials over a ring $\mathbb{Z}_{p^k}$, with $p$ being a prime number greater than three, where every number in the ring is considered as a vertex and the existing mapping relation between two vertices is regarded as a directed edge. Based on some new properties of Chebyshev polynomials and their derivatives, we disclose how the basic structure of the functional graph evolves with respect to parameter $k$. First, we present a complete and explicit form of the length of a path starting from any given vertex. Then, we show that the strong patterns of the functional graph that the number of cycles of any given length always remains constant as $k$ increases. Moreover, we rigorously prove the rules on the elegant structure of the functional graph and verify them experimentally. Our results could be useful for studying the emergence of the complexity of a nonlinear map in digital computers and security analysis of its cryptographic applications.

Graph Structure of an Inversive Pseudorandom Number Generator over Ring $\mathbb{Z}_{p^{e}}$

Generating random and pseudorandom numbers with a deterministic system is a long-standing challenge in theoretical research and engineering applications. Several pseudorandom number generators based on the inversive congruential method have been designed as attractive alternatives to those based on the classical linear congruential method. This paper discloses the least period of sequences generated by iterating an inversive pseudorandom number generator over the ring $\mathbb{Z}_e$ by transforming it into a two-order linear congruential recurrence relation. Depending on whether the sequence is periodic or ultimately periodic, all states in the domain can be attributed to two types of objects: some cycles of different lengths and one unilateral connected digraph whose structure remains unchanged concerning parameter $e$. The graph structure of the generator over the ring $\mathbb{Z}_e$ is precisely disclosed with rigorous theoretical analysis and verified experimentally. The adopted analysis methodology can be extended to study the graph structure of other nonlinear maps.

Periodicity Analysis of the Logistic Map over Ring $\mathbb{Z}_{3^n}$

Periodicity analysis of sequences generated by a deterministic system is a long-standing challenge in both theoretical research and engineering applications. To overcome the inevitable degradation of the Logistic map on a finite-precision circuit, its numerical domain is commonly converted from a real number field to a ring or a finite field. This paper studies the period of sequences generated by iterating the Logistic map over ring $\mathbb{Z}_{3^n}$ from the perspective of its associate functional network, where every number in the ring is considered as a node, and the existing mapping relation between any two nodes is regarded as a directed edge. The complete explicit form of the period of the sequences starting from any initial value is given theoretically and verified experimentally. Moreover, conditions on the control parameter and initial value are derived, ensuring the corresponding sequences to achieve the maximum period over the ring. The results can be used as ground truth for dynamical analysis and cryptographical applications of the Logistic map over various domains.
