Symphony: A Cognitively-Inspired Multi-Agent System for Long-Video Understanding

Despite rapid developments and widespread applications of MLLM agents, they still struggle with long-form video understanding (LVU) tasks, which are characterized by high information density and extended temporal spans. Recent research on LVU agents demonstrates that simple task decomposition and collaboration mechanisms are insufficient for long-chain reasoning tasks. Moreover, directly reducing the time context through embedding-based retrieval may lose key information of complex problems. In this paper, we propose Symphony, a multi-agent system, to alleviate these limitations. By emulating human cognition patterns, Symphony decomposes LVU into fine-grained subtasks and incorporates a deep reasoning collaboration mechanism enhanced by reflection, effectively improving the reasoning capability. Additionally, Symphony provides a VLM-based grounding approach to analyze LVU tasks and assess the relevance of video segments, which significantly enhances the ability to locate complex problems with implicit intentions and large temporal spans. Experimental results show that Symphony achieves state-of-the-art performance on LVBench, LongVideoBench, VideoMME, and MLVU, with a 5.0% improvement over the prior state-of-the-art method on LVBench. Code is available at https://github.com/Haiyang0226/Symphony.

Focused Specific Objects NeRF

Most NeRF-based models are designed for learning the entire scene, and complex scenes can lead to longer learning times and poorer rendering effects. This paper utilizes scene semantic priors to make improvements in fast training, allowing the network to focus on the specific targets and not be affected by complex backgrounds. The training speed can be increased by 7.78 times with better rendering effect, and small to medium sized targets can be rendered faster. In addition, this improvement applies to all NeRF-based models. Considering the inherent multi-view consistency and smoothness of NeRF, this paper also studies weak supervision by sparsely sampling negative ray samples. With this method, training can be further accelerated and rendering quality can be maintained. Finally, this paper extends pixel semantic and color rendering formulas and proposes a new scene editing technique that can achieve unique displays of the specific semantic targets or masking them in rendering. To address the problem of unsupervised regions incorrect inferences in the scene, we also designed a self-supervised loop that combines morphological operations and clustering.

Expectation Synchronization Synthesis in Non-Markovian Open Quantum Systems

In this article, we investigate the problem of engineering synchronization in non-Markovian quantum systems. First, a time-convoluted linear quantum stochastic differential equation is derived which describes the Heisenberg evolution of a localized quantum system driven by multiple colored noise inputs. Then, we define quantum expectation synchronization in an augmented system consisting of two subsystems. We prove that, for two homogenous subsystems, synchronization can always be synthesized without designing direct Hamiltonian coupling given that the degree of non-Markovianity is below a certain threshold. System parameters are explicitly designed to achieve quantum synchronization. Also, a numerical example is presented to illustrate our results.

Subspace Stabilization Analysis for Non-Markovian Open Quantum Systems

Studied in this article is non-Markovian open quantum systems parametrized by Hamiltonian H, coupling operator L, and memory kernel function γ, which is a proper candidate for describing the dynamics of various solid-state quantum information processing devices. We look into the subspace stabilization problem of the system from the perspective of dynamical systems and control. The problem translates itself into finding analytic conditions that characterize invariant and attractive subspaces. Necessary and sufficient conditions are found for subspace invariance based on algebraic computations, and sufficient conditions are derived for subspace attractivity by applying a double integral Lyapunov functional. Mathematical proof is given for those conditions and a numerical example is provided to illustrate the theoretical result.
