Learnable Persistent Wrinkle Formation in Cloth Simulation

The mechanical memory of fabrics often leads to persistent wrinkles, which reflect key physical properties and habitual wear patterns. Simulating these wrinkles accurately is essential for visual plausibility in digital garments, yet no dedicated approach exists for inferring the parameters that govern their formation due to the lack of precise datasets and estimation methods. We introduce Fabric-101, an inclusive, accurate, and extendable fabric dataset comprising over 101 common fabrics following textile standards. Unlike existing datasets, it captures three physically distinct deformation components (i.e., self-recoverable (elastic), recoverable (friction-driven), and unrecoverable (plastic)), from cyclic loading-unloading measurements. Building on this data, we propose a differentiable cloth simulator combining an elasto-plastic model with friction, designed to capture recoverable and unrecoverable wrinkle formation. Our simulator is differentiable and uses adjoint method to learn fabric physical parameters from the measured hysteresis curves, learning fabric-specific wrinkle behaviors. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that our model reproduces persistent wrinkles that are visually and physically similar to real fabrics across diverse materials and motions. Dataset and code are available in https://github.com/GongDeshan/Fabric_101_for_Wrinkles.

Enhanced Deformable Convolution with Center-invariant Offset and Edge-aware Mask

Deformable convolution networks have recently become popular for many computer vision tasks, especially for semantic segmentation, because of their exceptional capabilities in dynamic spatial modeling. However, due to the dense deformable offsets and the lack of longer-range dependencies, they can not fully adopt proper and precise deformations for feature representations. To tackle the issues, in this paper, we propose Enhanced Deformable ConvNets (EDCN) for semantic segmentation. Specifically, a novel Enhanced Deformable Convolution (EDC) is exploited in the decoder, which integrates the Center-invariant Offset Module (COM) and Edge-aware Mask Module (EMM). The COM employs larger kernels and eliminates deformations at the kernel center, obtaining offsets that are more in line with the target from richer spatial information. Concurrently, the EMM obtains the significance of image content via Sobel edge detection, then selectively applies deformations based on the content significance, minimizing unnecessary deformations associated with relatively less important information, thereby avoiding impact from less informative regions. Experiments show that EDC outperforms state-of-the-art deformable convolution variants, including Deformable ConvNets V1-V4 and Entire Deformable ConvNets, across mainstream segmentation datasets with various decoder settings. Moreover, ablation studies confirm the effectiveness of each component. In addition, visualizations illustrate that EDC enhances spatial adaptation and target focus. We further analyze the extendibility of EDC to larger kernels on the image classification benchmark. Code will be publicly released.

Self-supervised Garment Dynamics with Persistent Wrinkles

Self-supervised neural garment simulation has become popular due to its computational efficiency, good visual realism, and no reliance on training data. However, existing methods greatly simplify the mechanical properties of fabrics, ignoring persistent wrinkles caused by plasticity. Although this simplification allows for modeling of purely elastic material and simple training via energy minimization, the lack of believable wrinkles adversely affects the visual realism. Therefore, we introduce the first self-supervised neural garment simulator that explicitly models persistent wrinkles. This is accomplished through a novel physics-inspired loss function, which turns learning into a moving energy minimization problem to mimic plasticity. However, this requires learning to use a changing loss function, which causes difficulties in training because the loss function changes during optimization. To this end, we propose a new physics-inspired curriculum learning scheme where the target material for learning gradually changes from pure elasticity to elasto-plasticity, allowing the loss function and the learnable parameters to jointly converge. Through a comprehensive evaluation, we show that for the first time, self-supervised learning models can generate natural persistent wrinkles, outperforming existing methods on a variety of garments, body shapes, and body motions, according to a range of metrics.

GSPan: A Continuous Gaussian Primitive Representation for Arbitrary-Scale Pansharpening

Pansharpening aims to generate high-resolution multispectral (HRMS) images by fusing low-resolution multispectral (LRMS) and panchromatic (PAN) observations. Most existing deep learning methods treat pansharpening as fixed-grid prediction, which limits scale adaptation. To address this, we propose GSPan, a framework that introduces 2D Gaussian Splatting (GS) into pansharpening. Instead of directly predicting pixels, GSPan represents band-wise residual details as continuous and learnable 2D Gaussian primitives. We design a Dual-Stream Hierarchical Interaction (DSHI) architecture with a Spatial-Spectral Interactive Attention (SSIA) module to estimate these primitives from complementary PAN and MS observations. The predicted primitives are rendered as a residual detail field and injected into the upsampled MS image. This continuous representation allows GSPan to render fused images on arbitrary target sampling grids without scale-specific retraining. It further enables a Scale-Decoupled Asymmetric Inference (SDAI) strategy, which estimates primitives at a reduced resolution and renders the fused image at the target resolution for efficient large-scene pansharpening. Experiments on QuickBird, GaoFen-2, WorldView-3, and WorldView-3-4K datasets show that GSPan delivers state-of-the-art fusion performance. Moreover, SDAI markedly accelerates inference, achieving a favorable trade-off between computational efficiency and fusion quality. Our results demonstrate the potential of continuous Gaussian residual representations as a flexible and scale-decoupled alternative to fixed-grid prediction.

A New Method of Measuring Magnetic Field Strength in Highly Structured Protostellar Envelopes

Magnetic fields play a fundamental role in protostellar collapse and disk formation, yet direct measurements of magnetic field strength in deeply embedded protostellar envelopes remain difficult. We present a new method to estimate both the vertical and total magnetic field strength in collapsing, pseudodisk- or sheetlet-dominated protostellar envelopes, derived directly from the magnetohydrodynamic momentum equation. The method relates the magnetic field strength to two observationally accessible quantities: the projected gravitational acceleration toward the center of collapse and the face-on column density of the pseudodisk, and two dimensionless parameters, $a_{b, R}$ and $γ_{zR}$, which characterize magnetic contribution to the force balance and the field geometry, respectively, through $|B_z|=(2πa_{b,R}γ_{zR}g_RΣ)^{1/2}$. Using non-ideal magnetohydrodynamic simulations, we verify the assumptions underlying the method, justify the adopted approximations, and calibrate the two key dimensionless parameters. We provide canonical estimates of these two parameters, and show that they exhibit only weak spatial and temporal variations, allowing robust field strength estimates even when detailed gas kinematics or high-resolution polarization information is unavailable. We show that the method is applicable in both turbulent and non-turbulent envelopes and is insensitive to the ambipolar diffusion coefficient, making it robust against uncertainties in the local turbulence strength and ionization rate. We apply the method to the Class 0 source L1157, using column-density and gravitational-acceleration estimates from the literature to estimate the magnetic field strength for L1157. Our result is broadly consistent with previous estimates from independent methods, demonstrating the utility of this approach for constraining magnetic fields in embedded protostellar systems.

Temporal Inconsistency Guidance for Super-resolution Video Quality Assessment

As super-resolution (SR) techniques introduce unique distortions that fundamentally differ from those caused by traditional degradation processes (e.g., compression), there is an increasing demand for specialized video quality assessment (VQA) methods tailored to SR-generated content. One critical factor affecting perceived quality is temporal inconsistency, which refers to irregularities between consecutive frames. However, existing VQA approaches rarely quantify this phenomenon or explicitly investigate its relationship with human perception. Moreover, SR videos exhibit amplified inconsistency levels as a result of enhancement processes. In this paper, we propose \textit{Temporal Inconsistency Guidance for Super-resolution Video Quality Assessment (TIG-SVQA)} that underscores the critical role of temporal inconsistency in guiding the quality assessment of SR videos. We first design a perception-oriented approach to quantify frame-wise temporal inconsistency. Based on this, we introduce the Inconsistency Highlighted Spatial Module, which localizes inconsistent regions at both coarse and fine scales. Inspired by the human visual system, we further develop an Inconsistency Guided Temporal Module that performs progressive temporal feature aggregation: (1) a consistency-aware fusion stage in which a visual memory capacity block adaptively determines the information load of each temporal segment based on inconsistency levels, and (2) an informative filtering stage for emphasizing quality-related features. Extensive experiments on both single-frame and multi-frame SR video scenarios demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art VQA approaches. VQualA 2025 Challenge on Image Super-Resolution Generated Content Quality Assessment: Methods and Results

This paper presents the ISRGC-Q Challenge, built upon the Image Super-Resolution Generated Content Quality Assessment (ISRGen-QA) dataset, and organized as part of the Visual Quality Assessment (VQualA) Competition at the ICCV 2025 Workshops. Unlike existing Super-Resolution Image Quality Assessment (SR-IQA) datasets, ISRGen-QA places a greater emphasis on SR images generated by the latest generative approaches, including Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and diffusion models. The primary goal of this challenge is to analyze the unique artifacts introduced by modern super-resolution techniques and to evaluate their perceptual quality effectively. A total of 108 participants registered for the challenge, with 4 teams submitting valid solutions and fact sheets for the final testing phase. These submissions demonstrated state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on the ISRGen-QA dataset. The project is publicly available at: https://github.com/Lighting-YXLI/ISRGen-QA.

Perception-oriented Bidirectional Attention Network for Image Super-resolution Quality Assessment

Many super-resolution (SR) algorithms have been proposed to increase image resolution. However, full-reference (FR) image quality assessment (IQA) metrics for comparing and evaluating different SR algorithms are limited. In this work, we propose the Perception-oriented Bidirectional Attention Network (PBAN) for image SR FR-IQA, which is composed of three modules: an image encoder module, a perception-oriented bidirectional attention (PBA) module, and a quality prediction module. First, we encode the input images for feature representations. Inspired by the characteristics of the human visual system, we then construct the perception-oriented PBA module. Specifically, different from existing attention-based SR IQA methods, we conceive a Bidirectional Attention to bidirectionally construct visual attention to distortion, which is consistent with the generation and evaluation processes of SR images. To further guide the quality assessment towards the perception of distorted information, we propose Grouped Multi-scale Deformable Convolution, enabling the proposed method to adaptively perceive distortion. Moreover, we design Sub-information Excitation Convolution to direct visual perception to both sub-pixel and sub-channel attention. Finally, the quality prediction module is exploited to integrate quality-aware features and regress quality scores. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed PBAN outperforms state-of-the-art quality assessment methods.

NeR-VCP: A Video Content Protection Method Based on Implicit Neural Representation

With the popularity of video applications, the security of video content has emerged as a pressing issue that demands urgent attention. Most video content protection methods mainly rely on encryption technology, which needs to be manually designed or implemented in an experience-based manner. To address this problem, we propose an automatic encryption technique for video content protection based on implicit neural representation. We design a key-controllable module, which serves as a key for encryption and decryption. NeR-VCP first pre-distributes the key-controllable module trained by the sender to the recipients, and then uses Implicit Neural Representation (INR) with a (pre-distributed) key-controllable module to encrypt plain video as an implicit neural network, and the legal recipients uses a pre-distributed key-controllable module to decrypt this cipher neural network (the corresponding implicit neural network). Under the guidance of the key-controllable design, our method can improve the security of video content and provide a novel video encryption scheme. Moreover, using model compression techniques, this method can achieve video content protection while effectively mitigating the amount of encrypted data transferred. We experimentally find that it has superior performance in terms of visual representation, imperceptibility to illegal users, and security from a cryptographic viewpoint.

Deep Bi-directional Attention Network for Image Super-Resolution Quality Assessment

There has emerged a growing interest in exploring efficient quality assessment algorithms for image super-resolution (SR). However, employing deep learning techniques, especially dual-branch algorithms, to automatically evaluate the visual quality of SR images remains challenging. Existing SR image quality assessment (IQA) metrics based on two-stream networks lack interactions between branches. To address this, we propose a novel full-reference IQA (FR-IQA) method for SR images. Specifically, producing SR images and evaluating how close the SR images are to the corresponding HR references are separate processes. Based on this consideration, we construct a deep Bi-directional Attention Network (BiAtten-Net) that dynamically deepens visual attention to distortions in both processes, which aligns well with the human visual system (HVS). Experiments on public SR quality databases demonstrate the superiority of our proposed BiAtten-Net over state-of-the-art quality assessment methods. In addition, the visualization results and ablation study show the effectiveness of bi-directional attention.

A Benchmarking Protocol for SAR Colorization: From Regression to Deep Learning Approaches

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images are widely used in remote sensing. Interpreting SAR images can be challenging due to their intrinsic speckle noise and grayscale nature. To address this issue, SAR colorization has emerged as a research direction to colorize gray scale SAR images while preserving the original spatial information and radiometric information. However, this research field is still in its early stages, and many limitations can be highlighted. In this paper, we propose a full research line for supervised learning-based approaches to SAR colorization. Our approach includes a protocol for generating synthetic color SAR images, several baselines, and an effective method based on the conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN) for SAR colorization. We also propose numerical assessment metrics for the problem at hand. To our knowledge, this is the first attempt to propose a research line for SAR colorization that includes a protocol, a benchmark, and a complete performance evaluation. Our extensive tests demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed cGAN-based network for SAR colorization. The code will be made publicly available.

Motion Vector-Domain Video Steganalysis Exploiting Skipped Macroblocks

Video steganography has the potential to be used to convey illegal information, and video steganalysis is a vital tool to detect the presence of this illicit act. Currently, all the motion vector (MV)-based video steganalysis algorithms extract feature sets directly on the MVs, but ignoring the steganograhic operation may perturb the statistics distribution of other video encoding elements, such as the skipped macroblocks (no direct MVs). This paper proposes a novel 11-dimensional feature set to detect MV-based video steganography based on the above observation. The proposed feature is extracted based on the skipped macroblocks by recompression calibration. Specifically, the feature consists of two components. The first is the probability distribution of motion vector prediction (MVP) difference, and the second is the probability distribution of partition state transfer. Extensive experiments on different conditions demonstrate that the proposed feature set achieves good detection accuracy, especially in lower embedding capacity. In addition, the loss of detection performance caused by recompression calibration using mismatched quantization parameters (QP) is within the acceptable range, so the proposed method can be used in practical scenarios.

A One-dimensional HEVC video steganalysis method using the Optimality of Predicted Motion Vectors

Among steganalysis techniques, detection against motion vector (MV) domain-based video steganography in High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard remains a hot and challenging issue. For the purpose of improving the detection performance, this paper proposes a steganalysis feature based on the optimality of predicted MVs with a dimension of one. Firstly, we point out that the motion vector prediction (MVP) of the prediction unit (PU) encoded using the Advanced Motion Vector Prediction (AMVP) technique satisfies the local optimality in the cover video. Secondly, we analyze that in HEVC video, message embedding either using MVP index or motion vector differences (MVD) may destroy the above optimality of MVP. And then, we define the optimal rate of MVP in HEVC video as a steganalysis feature. Finally, we conduct steganalysis detection experiments on two general datasets for three popular steganography methods and compare the performance with four state-of-the-art steganalysis methods. The experimental results show that the proposed optimal rate of MVP for all cover videos is 100\%, while the optimal rate of MVP for all stego videos is less than 100\%. Therefore, the proposed steganography scheme can accurately distinguish between cover videos and stego videos, and it is efficiently applied to practical scenarios with no model training and low computational complexity.

The Realizations of Steganography in Encrypted Domain

With the popularization and application of privacy protection technologies in cloud service and social network, ciphertext has been gradually becoming a common platform for public to exchange data. Under the cover of such a plat-form, we propose steganography in encrypted domain (SIED) in this paper to re-alize a novel method to realize secret communication Based on Simmons' model of prisoners' problems, we discuss the application scenarios of SIED. According to the different accesses to the encryption key and decryption key for secret mes-sage sender or receiver, the application modes of SIED are classified into four modes. To analyze the security requirments of SIED, four levels of steganalysis attacks are introduced based on the prior knowledge about the steganography system that the attacker is assumed to obtain in advance. Four levels of security standards of SIED are defined correspondingly. Based on the existing reversible data hiding techniques, we give four schemes of SIED as practical instances with different security levels. By analyzing the embedding and extraction characteris-tics of each instance, their SIED modes, application frameworks and security lev-els are discussed in detail.

Investigation on Principles for Cost Assignment in Motion Vector-based Video Steganography

Cost assignment in the motion vector domain remains a research focus in video steganography. Recent studies in image steganography have summarized many principles for cost assignment and achieved good results. But the basic principles for cost assignment in motion vector-based video steganography have not been fully discussed yet. Firstly, this paper proposes three principles for cost assignment in the motion vector domain, including the principle of local optimality, non-consistency in the block group, and complexity priority. Secondly, three corresponding novel practical distortion functions were designed according to the three principles. Finally, a joint distortion function is constructed based on all three principles to increase overall performance. The experimental results show that not only the three independent distortion functions can effectively resist the corresponding steganalysis attacks, but the final joint distortion can resist the three steganalysis features simultaneously. In addition, it can obtain good visual quality and coding efficiency, which can be applied to practical scenarios.

Generative Steganography with Kerckhoffs' Principle

The distortion in steganography that usually comes from the modification or recoding on the cover image during the embedding process leaves the steganalyzer with possibility of discriminating. Faced with such a risk, we propose generative steganography with Kerckhoffs' principle (GSK) in this letter. In GSK, the secret messages are generated by a cover image using a generator rather than embedded into the cover, thus resulting in no modifications in the cover. To ensure the security, the generators are trained to meet Kerckhoffs' principle based on generative adversarial networks (GAN). Everything about the GSK system, except the extraction key, is public knowledge for the receivers. The secret messages can be outputted by the generator if and only if the extraction key and the cover image are both inputted. In the generator training procedures, there are two GANs, Message- GAN and Cover-GAN, designed to work jointly making the generated results under the control of the extraction key and the cover image. We provide experimental results on the training process and give an example of the working process by adopting a generator trained on MNIST, which demonstrate that GSK can use a cover image without any modification to generate messages, and without the extraction key or the cover image, only meaningless results would be obtained.

A Reversible Data hiding Scheme in Encrypted Domain for Secret Image Sharing based on Chinese Remainder Theorem

Reversible data hiding in encrypted domain (RDH-ED) schemes based on symmetric or public key encryption are mainly applied to the security of end-to-end communication. Aimed at providing reliable technical supports for multi-party security scenarios, a separable RDH-ED scheme for secret image sharing based on Chinese remainder theorem (CRT) is presented. In the application of (t, n) secret image sharing, the image is first shared into n different shares of ciphertext. Only when not less than t shares obtained, can the original image be reconstructed. In our scheme, additional data could be embedded into the image shares. To realize data extraction from the image shares and the reconstructed image separably, two data hiding methods are proposed: one is homomorphic difference expansion in encrypted domain (HDE-ED) that supports data extraction from the reconstructed image by utilizing the addition homomorphism of CRT secret sharing; the other is difference expansion in image shares (DE-IS) that supports the data extraction from the marked shares before image reconstruction. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme could not only maintain the security and the threshold function of secret sharing system, but also obtain a better reversibility and efficiency compared with most existing RDH-ED algorithms. The maximum embedding rate of HDE-ED could reach 0.5000 bits per pixel and the average embedding rate of DE-IS is 0.0545 bits per bit of ciphertext.

Generative Steganography by Sampling

In this paper, a novel data-driven information hiding scheme called generative steganography by sampling (GSS) is proposed. Unlike in traditional modification-based steganography, in our method the stego image is directly sampled by a powerful generator: no explicit cover is used. Both parties share a secret key used for message embedding and extraction. The Jensen-Shannon divergence is introduced as a new criterion for evaluating the security of generative steganography. Based on these principles, we propose a simple practical generative steganography method that uses semantic image inpainting. The message is written in advance to an uncorrupted region that needs to be retained in the corrupted image. Then, the corrupted image with the secret message is fed into a Generator trained by a generative adversarial network (GAN) for semantic completion. Message loss and prior loss terms are proposed for penalizing message extraction error and unrealistic stego image. In our design, we first train a generator whose training target is the generation of new data samples from the same distribution as that of existing training data. Next, for the trained generator, backpropagation to the message and prior loss are introduced to optimize the coding of the input noise data for the generator. The presented experiments demonstrate the potential of the proposed framework based on both qualitative and quantitative evaluations of the generated stego images.
