Harbor Adapters and Harbor-Index: Infrastructure and a Curated Meta-Dataset for Large-Scale Agentic Evaluation

Evaluating agents on the growing number of agentic benchmarks is challenging because they often require complex environments and agent integrations. We introduce Harbor Adapters, a unified evaluation infrastructure for agentic benchmarks. Our work makes three contributions. First, we develop benchmark adapters that port more than 80 benchmarks to evaluate arbitrary agents, and validate them through rigorous code review and parity experiments. Second, we conduct a large-scale evaluation of 8 models spanning capability tiers across 54 benchmarks; every model is run with Terminus-2 and with one of 3 native harnesses. This enables a broader analysis of agent capabilities and failure modes than was previously possible. Third, we introduce Harbor-Index, a curated set of 82 difficult, diverse, and high-quality tasks spanning 29 benchmarks, refined from the adapted suite through difficulty filtering, AI and human audit, and an audit-and-fix loop. Harbor-Index preserves the challenge and breadth of large-scale agentic evaluations while being affordable to run; no evaluated model-harness configuration exceeds 30% pass rate, and the strongest (GPT-5.5 with Codex) reaches 28.0%. We release the adapters, evaluation results, in-depth analysis, and Harbor-Index as open-source artifacts to support more reliable and comprehensive evaluation of language-model agents.

Automatic-differentiation-enabled dynamic parameter retrieval with sub-pulse-width resolution

Time-resolved terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) is a phase-sensitive tool in condensed matter physics for tracking photoinduced non-equilibrium dynamics of low-energy elementary excitations. However, the measured response function, optical conductivity $σ(ω,t_{pp})$, becomes unreliable in reporting the state of matter when material properties drastically change on a timescale comparable to or less than the probe pulse duration, obscuring the sub-pulse-width dynamics. To resolve this issue, we present a full-waveform inversion framework inspired by the multi-dimensional retrieval philosophy of frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG). By leveraging the automatic differentiation (AD) technique and the two-dimensional time-domain signal $E(t_{g},t_{pp})$, we show one can uniquely solve the inverse problem, at the sub-pulse-width resolution, of retrieving physical observables that are still well-defined, i.e., time-dependent scattering rate $γ(t)$, plasma frequency $ω_\mathrm{p}(t)$ and resonance frequency $ω_0(t)$, while the response functions are not. Further optimization by gradient-based routines (Adam + L-BFGS) via JAX makes the method exceptionally robust against experimental noise and probe pulse distortions. The validity of the AD-enabled methodology is benchmarked both by a self-consistent numerical approach and by experimental data from real ultrafast THz spectroscopy measurements.

Gaia DR3 Open Cluster Cepheids: A Unified Catalog with Calibrated Period-Age and Period-Wesenheit Relations

Classical Cepheids (CCs) in Galactic open clusters (OCs) provide essential observational constraints for calibrating the period-age relation (PAR) and the period-Wesenheit relation (PWR) of CCs. However, distant and long-period OC Cepheids remain limited, while the confirmed samples still require more precise determinations of their physical properties, such as ages and extinctions. In this work, we present a comprehensive census of OC Cepheids based on an extensive sample of distant OCs from Gaia Data Release 3 (DR3). By combining astrometric and photometric membership analyses, we identified 110 CCs associated with 102 OCs, of which 41 CCs across 37 OCs were classified as OC Cepheids, while the remaining cases were considered candidate or rejected associations. Our results are consistent with previous studies, while 4 of the 41 OC Cepheids are newly reported here. Using updated cluster parameters derived from manual isochrone fitting, we primarily refined the PAR to log Age = (-0.595 $\pm$ 0.044) log P + (8.430 $\pm$ 0.042) and recalibrated the PWR to WG = (-3.615 $\pm$ 0.083) log P + (-2.379 $\pm$ 0.096). This study expands the sample of confirmed and candidate OC Cepheids. The newly longest-period confirmed OC Cepheid is BM Per (CWNU 3123) with log P = 1.36, and two newly discovered OC Cepheid candidates have distances exceeding 6 kpc. Moreover, the PAR and PWR are improved by incorporating refined OC ages and updated parallaxes, respectively.

A Detailed Analysis of the Milky Way Warp Based on Classical Cepheids

Classical Cepheids (CCs) are important probes for the large-scale warp structure of the Milky Way. Using Gaia DR3 CCs, we establish an optimal time-dependent warp model, where the warp height increases with radius following a power-law, the line of nodes (LONs) exhibit linear twisting with radius, following a leading spiral pattern, and the LONs undergo prograde evolution over time. Structurally, we identify significant warp features in the $5-9$ kpc region of the Galactic disk, where the warp model performs better than the flat model. Beyond 15 kpc, the model with the second Fourier term does not fit the observations well, whereas the model with twisted LONs better matches the data. Kinematically, we derived expressions for the vertical velocities using direct differentiation and then calculated the precession rates for each CC. Our results intuitively indicate a nearly uniform and low warp precession rate of $ω= 4.86 \pm (0.88)_{stat} \pm (2.14)_{sys}$ km s$^{-1}$ kpc$^{-1}$ beyond 12.5 kpc, in agreement with classical kinematic estimates. Based on these findings, we propose a simple yet comprehensive time-dependent warp model, $Z_{w}(t) = 0.00019R^{3.08}\sin(ϕ- (3.87R-41.79 + 4.86t))$, which provides a unified framework for describing both the geometric and kinematic evolution of the Galactic warp. We analyzed the impact of the adopted solar vertical velocity on the inferred warp precession rate and confirmed the reliability of the measured precession rate. In addition, we found that extinction treatment affects the warp amplitude in the inner disk, while its influence on the outer disk warp structure and the precession rate is negligible.

Ultrafast dynamics of three-dimensional Kane plasmons in the narrow-bandgap Hg$_{0.8}$Cd$_{0.2}$Te

We report on an ultrafast terahertz spectroscopic study on the dynamics of free carriers and the pertinent bulk plasmons in Hg$_{0.8}$Cd$_{0.2}$Te (MCT) film, a narrowband semiconductor accommodating three dimensional massless Kane fermions. The ultrabroadband terahertz source enables the investigation of the lightly doped equilibrium state in the presence of plasmon-phonon hybridization through the heavily doped excited state, primarily dominated by plasmons. Without the recourse to the resource consuming cryogenic high magnetic field spectroscopy that hinges on observable related to the interband transition, we show that the massless band dispersion can instead be conveniently perceived by the room temperature study of the intraband transition through the determination of the plasmon carrier density relationship. We found the plasma frequency in MCT scales with the cube root of carrier density, in contrast with the square root scaling in the conventional massive fermion system of parabolic band dispersion. This work also answers the curious question of whether the MCT can maintain its massless Kane fermion character in case the strict gapless condition is deviated from. The method presented herein provides a convenient approach to identifying the landscape of both massless and massive band dispersion.

Light-induced percolative topological phase transition in type-II Weyl semimetal WTe2

We report on an ultrafast terahertz free-carrier dynamic study of a photo-excited WTe2 thin film. In the photo-excited state, we observe a metastable electronic state featuring negative differential terahertz photoconductivity and reduced scattering rate. Detailed electrodynamics analysis and first-principal calculation attribute it to light-induced topological phase transition, reducing density of states near the Fermi level. Furthermore, the emergence of an unconventional temporal isosbestic point marks a dynamic universality, strongly suggesting a percolative interaction between the two topologically distinct phases.

Frequency-selective terahertz wave amplification by a time-boundary-engineered Huygens metasurface

Ultrafast manipulation of optical resonance can establish the time-boundary effect in time-variant media leading to a new degree of freedom for coherent control of electromagnetic waves. Here, we demonstrate that a free-standing all dielectric Huygens metasurface of degenerate electric and magnetic resonances can prompt the broadband near-unity transmission in its static state, whereas it enables wave amplification in the presence of time boundary. The time boundary is realized by femtosecond laser excitations that transiently inject free carriers into the constituent meta-atoms for dynamic removal of a pre-established two-fold degeneracy. We observe that the transmittance in the photo-excited Huygens metasurface can exceed unity transmittance, i.e., THz wave amplification, by a factor over 20% in intensity at frequencies tunable by varying the arrival of time boundary with respect to that of the seed terahertz pulse. By numerical simulations and analysis with time-dependent coupled mode theory, we show that the wave amplification results from the ultrafast Q-switching and shift in resonant frequencies. This work demonstrates a new approach to achieve tunable amplification in an optical microcavity by exploiting the concept of time-variant media and the unique electromagnetic properties of Huygens metasurface.

Tracing the Galactic disk from the kinematics of Gaia Cepheids

Classical Cepheids (CCs) are excellent tracers for understanding the structure of the Milky Way disk. The latest Gaia Data Release 3 provides a large number of line-of-sight velocity information for Galactic CCs, offering an opportunity for studying the kinematics of the Milky Way. We determine the three-dimensional velocities of 2057 CCs relative to the Galactic center. From the projections of the 3D velocities onto the XY plane of the Galactic disk, we find that $V_{R}$ and $V_ϕ$ velocities of the northern and southern warp (directions with highest amplitude) are different. This phenomenon may be related to the warp precession or the asymmetry of the warp structure. By investigating the kinematic warp model, we find that the vertical velocity of CCs is more suitable for constraining the warp precession rate than the line of nodes angles. Our results suggest that CCs at $12-14$ kpc are the best sample for determining the Galactic warp precession rate. Based on the spatial structure parameters of Cepheid warp from Chen et al (arXiv:1902.00998), we determine a warp precession rate of $ω= 4.9\pm1.6$ km s$^{-1}$ kpc$^{-1}$ at 13 kpc, which supports a low precession rate in the warp model. In the future, more kinematic information on CCs will help to better constrain the structure and evolution of the Milky Way.

Coherent generation and control of tunable narrowband THz radiation from laser-induced air-plasma filament

We report on the proof-of-principle experiment of generating carrier-envelope phase (CEP)-controllable and frequency-tunable narrowband terahertz (THz) radiation from air-plasma filament prescribed by the beat of temporally stretched two-color laser pulse sequence. The pulse sequence was prepared by propagating the fundamental ultrafast laser pulse through a grating stretcher and Michelson interferometer with variable inter-arm delay. By partially frequency-doubling and focusing the pulse sequence, an air-plasma filament riding a beat note was created to radiate THz wave with primary pulse characteristics (center frequency and CEP) under coherent control. To reproduce experimental results and elucidate complex nonlinear light-matter interaction, numerical simulation has been performed. This work demonstrates the feasibility of generating coherently controlled narrowband THz wave with high tunability in laser-induced air plasma.

Galactic open cluster Cepheids -- a census based on Gaia EDR3

In the Gaia era, the membership analysis and parameter determination of open clusters (OCs) are more accurate. We performed a census of OC's classical Cepheids based on Gaia Early Data Release 3 (EDR3) and obtained a sample of 33 OC Cepheids fulfilling the constraints of the spatial position, proper motion, parallax and evolution state. 13 of 33 OC Cepheids are newly discovered. Among them, CM Sct is the first first-crossing Cepheids with direct evidence of evolution. DP Vel is likely a fourth- or fifth-crossing Cepheids. Based on independent distances from OCs, W_1-band period-luminosity relation of Cepheids is determined with a 3.5% accuracy: = -(3.274 +- 0.090) log P - (-2.567 +- 0.080). The Gaia-band period-Wesenheit relation agrees well with Ripepi et al. (2019). A direct period-age relation for fundamental Cepheids are also determined based on OC's age, that is log t = -(0.638 +- 0.063) log P + (8.569 +- 0.057).
