Multi-Objective and Mixed-Reward Reinforcement Learning via Reward-Decorrelated Policy Optimization

Complex reinforcement learning environments frequently employ multi-task and mixed-reward formulations. In these settings, heterogeneous reward distributions and correlated reward dimensions often destabilize the construction of scalar advantages. To address these challenges, we propose Reward-Decorrelated Policy Optimization (RDPO), a reward-processing method designed to explicitly target both failure modes. RDPO first utilizes Magnitude-Aware Quantile normalization to stabilize prompt-level advantage allocation across binary, fractional, and continuous rewards. It then applies Mahalanobis whitening within each active reward subspace to mitigate correlation redundancy prior to aggregation. When applied during the post-training of LongCat-Flash, RDPO enhances instruction following, writing quality, and robustness to hard prompts while remaining broadly competitive on reasoning and coding evaluations.

Exactness of the DNN Relaxation for Random Standard Quadratic Programs

We study the doubly nonnegative (DNN) relaxation of the standard quadratic optimization problem \[ \min\{x^\top Qx:\ x\inΔ^{n-1}\},\qquad Δ^{n-1}:=\{x\in\mathbb{R}_+^n:\ \mathbb{1}^\top x=1\}, \] for random symmetric matrices with independent diagonal and off-diagonal entries. Let $m_n:=\min_{1\le i\le n} Q_{ii}$ and set $M:=Q-m_nE$, where $E$ is the all-ones matrix. The negative off-diagonal entries of $M$ define a defect graph $G_n^-$. Under entrywise independence, absolute continuity, and the tail-decay condition $n^5\mathbb{E}[F_O(m_n)^4]\to 0$, where $F_O$ is the off-diagonal distribution function, we prove that with probability tending to one every defect component has size at most $4$. On this event, the shifted DNN value decomposes over defect components. Since the DNN and completely positive cones coincide in dimensions at most four, each local relaxation is exact. A finite KKT-candidate argument gives local uniqueness, and absolute continuity rules out ties, so the global DNN optimizer is unique and rank one. The graph estimate uses the fact that every connected component of size at least five contains a tree on exactly five vertices. For Gaussian orthogonal ensemble data, we prove the explicit bound \[ \mathbb{P}\bigl(\text{the DNN optimizer is unique and rank one}\bigr) \ge 1-K\frac{(\ln n)^2}{n^3}. \] On the same event, the exact optimizer can be recovered in $O(n^2)$ time by constructing the defect graph and solving constant-size local KKT systems. We also verify the tail condition for variance-tuned Gaussian Wigner models, heavy-tailed laws, and finite-lower-endpoint laws.

BaseCal: Unsupervised Confidence Calibration via Base Model Signals

Reliable confidence is essential for trusting the outputs of LLMs, yet widely deployed post-trained LLMs (PoLLMs) typically compromise this trust with severe overconfidence. In contrast, we observe that their corresponding base LLMs often remain well-calibrated. This naturally motivates us to calibrate PoLLM confidence using the base LLM as a reference. This work proposes two ways to achieve this. A straightforward solution, BaseCal-ReEval, evaluates PoLLM's responses by feeding them into the base LLM to get average probabilities as confidence. While effective, this approach introduces additional inference overhead. To address this, we propose BaseCal-Proj, which trains a lightweight projection to map the final-layer hidden states of PoLLMs back to those of their base LLMs. These projected states are then processed by the base LLM's output layer to derive base-calibrated confidence for PoLLM's responses. Notably, BaseCal is an unsupervised, plug-and-play solution that operates without human labels or LLM modifications. Experiments across five datasets and three LLM families demonstrate the effectiveness of BaseCal, reducing Expected Calibration Error (ECE) by an average of 42.90\% compared to the best unsupervised baselines.

Large-Scale Asset Selection via Metric Dependence with Enriched High Frequency Information

Large-scale portfolio choice is highly sensitive to estimation error, making the preliminary asset selection essential in empirical implementation. Existing selection rules typically rely on scalar returns or low dimensional high frequency summaries, and thus discard intraday risk dynamics that may be relevant for risk adjusted allocation. We propose Metric Dependence Screening (MDS), an asset selection procedure that incorporates high frequency information as object valued data. Each asset day observation is represented as a point-curve object combining daily return with an intraday risk state curve, equipped with a weighted product metric that preserves both reward information and within day risk dynamics. MDS ranks assets by a Fréchet variation based dependence score, measuring how much a risk adjusted target explains the metric dispersion of the asset representations. This yields a simple two stage portfolio procedure: MDS first reduces the investable universe, and standard mean-variance or minimum variance allocation is then applied. We develop a target slicing estimator and establish concentration, sure selection, and rank consistency guarantees under $α$-mixing time series dependence and ultrahigh dimensionality. Simulations show that MDS performs well across both Euclidean and non-Euclidean settings. Using high frequency data for $2938$ Chinese A-share stocks from July 2023 to December 2025, we demonstrate that MDS improves out of sample portfolio performance over return based and scalar dependence based benchmarks, highlighting the value of preserving intraday risk dynamics.

Multi-Modal LLM based Image Captioning in ICT: Bridging the Gap Between General and Industry Domain

In the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, training a domain-specific large language model (LLM) or constructing a retrieval-augmented generation system requires a substantial amount of high-value domain knowledge. However, the knowledge is not only hidden in the textual modality but also in the image modality. Traditional methods can parse text from domain documents but dont have image captioning ability. Multi-modal LLM (MLLM) can understand images, but they do not have sufficient domain knowledge. To address the above issues, this paper proposes a multi-stage progressive training strategy to train a Domain-specific Image Captioning Model (DICModel) in ICT, and constructs a standard evaluation system to validate the performance of DICModel. Specifically, this work first synthesizes about 7K image-text pairs by combining the Mermaid tool and LLMs, which are used for the first-stage supervised-fine-tuning (SFT) of DICModel. Then, ICT-domain experts manually annotate about 2K image-text pairs for the second-stage SFT of DICModel. Finally, experts and LLMs jointly synthesize about 1.5K visual question answering data for the instruction-based SFT. Experimental results indicate that our DICModel with only 7B parameters performs better than other state-of-the-art models with 32B parameters. Compared to the SOTA models with 7B and 32B parameters, our DICModel increases the BLEU metric by approximately 56.8% and 20.8%, respectively. On the objective questions constructed by ICT domain experts, our DICModel outperforms Qwen2.5-VL 32B by 1% in terms of accuracy rate. In summary, this work can efficiently and accurately extract the logical text from images, which is expected to promote the development of multimodal models in the ICT domain.

LFS: Learnable Frame Selector for Event-Aware and Temporally Diverse Video Captioning

Video captioning models convert frames into visual tokens and generate descriptions with large language models (LLMs). Since encoding all frames is prohibitively expensive, uniform sampling is the default choice, but it enforces equal temporal coverage while ignoring the uneven events distribution. This motivates a Learnable Frame Selector (LFS) that selects temporally diverse and event-relevant frames. LFS explicitly models temporal importance to balance temporal diversity and event relevance, and employs a stratified strategy to ensure temporal coverage while avoiding clustering. Crucially, LFS leverages caption feedback from frozen video-LLMs to learn frame selection that directly optimizes downstream caption quality. Additionally, we identify the gap between existing benchmark and human's cognition. Thus, we introduce ICH-CC built from carefully designed questions by annotators that reflect human-consistent understanding of video. Experiments indicate that LFS consistently improves detailed video captioning across two representative community benchmarks and ICH-CC, achieving up to 2.0% gains on VDC and over 4% gains on ICH-CC. Moreover, we observe that enhanced captions with LFS leads to improved performance on video question answering. Overall, LFS provides an effective and easy-to-integrate solution for detailed video captioning.

Distributed Coordination of Grid-Forming and Grid-Following Inverters for Optimal Frequency Control in Power Systems

The large-scale integration of inverter-interfaced renewable energy sources presents significant challenges to maintaining power balance and nominal frequency in modern power systems. This paper studies grid-level coordinated control of grid-forming (GFM) and grid-following (GFL) inverter-based resources (IBRs) for scalable and optimal frequency control. We propose a fully distributed optimal frequency control algorithm based on the projected primal-dual gradient method and by leveraging the structure of the underlying physical system dynamics. The proposed algorithm i) restores the nominal system frequency while minimizing total control cost and enforcing IBR power capacity limits and line thermal constraints, and ii) operates in a distributed manner that only needs local measurements and neighbor-to-neighbor communication. In particular, when the line thermal constraints are disregarded, the proposed algorithm admits a fully local implementation that requires no communication, while still ensuring optimality and satisfying IBR power capacity limits. We establish the global asymptotic convergence of the algorithm using Lyapunov stability analysis. The effectiveness and optimality of the proposed algorithms are validated through high-fidelity, 100% inverter-based electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations on the IEEE 39-bus system.

OpAgent: Operator Agent for Web Navigation

To fulfill user instructions, autonomous web agents must contend with the inherent complexity and volatile nature of real-world websites. Conventional paradigms predominantly rely on Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) or Offline Reinforcement Learning (RL) using static datasets. However, these methods suffer from severe distributional shifts, as offline trajectories fail to capture the stochastic state transitions and real-time feedback of unconstrained wide web environments. In this paper, we propose a robust Online Reinforcement Learning WebAgent, designed to optimize its policy through direct, iterative interactions with unconstrained wide websites. Our approach comprises three core innovations: 1) Hierarchical Multi-Task Fine-tuning: We curate a comprehensive mixture of datasets categorized by functional primitives -- Planning, Acting, and Grounding -- establishing a Vision-Language Model (VLM) with strong instruction-following capabilities for Web GUI tasks. 2) Online Agentic RL in the Wild: We develop an online interaction environment and fine-tune the VLM using a specialized RL pipeline. We introduce a Hybrid Reward Mechanism that combines a ground-truth-agnostic WebJudge for holistic outcome assessment with a Rule-based Decision Tree (RDT) for progress reward. This system effectively mitigates the credit assignment challenge in long-horizon navigation. Notably, our RL-enhanced model achieves a 38.1\% success rate (pass@5) on WebArena, outperforming all existing monolithic baselines. 3) Operator Agent: We introduce a modular agentic framework, namely \textbf{OpAgent}, orchestrating a Planner, Grounder, Reflector, and Summarizer. This synergy enables robust error recovery and self-correction, elevating the agent's performance to a new State-of-the-Art (SOTA) success rate of \textbf{71.6\%}.

The Fréchet correlation coefficient for heterogeneous random objects

Modern regression analysis often involves responses and predictors taking values in the same or distinct metric spaces. To rank non-Euclidean heterogeneous predictors in regression by explanatory strength, analogous to the classical $R^2$, we introduce the Fréchet correlation coefficient (FCC), defined as the relative reduction in the Fréchet variance of the response after conditioning on a specific predictor. FCC is directional, model-free, and interpretable on a unit-scale, attaining one under almost sure functional dependence and zero when the Fréchet mean is invariant to conditioning. We propose a novel partition-based estimator that avoids explicit nonparametric estimation of the conditional Fréchet mean function, thereby improving both computational efficiency and flexibility. A tailored wild bootstrap algorithm is further developed for testing the Fréchet conditional mean dependence. We establish asymptotic theory and evaluate power through extensive simulations.

Quantitative stochastic homogenization for long-range random walks with critical jump index

In this paper, we study the stochastic homogenization for a class of symmetric random walks in random conductance model, whose one-step transition probability from $x$ to $y$ is proportional to $|x-y|^{-d-2}$. As the associated jumping kernel fails to be $L^2$-integrable yet admits a finite $α$-th moment for all $α\in (0,2)$, we refer to the corresponding process $(X^\w_t)_{t\ge0}$ as a long-range random walk with critical jump index. In this critical regime, the scaled process $\bigl(k^{-1}X_{k^2(\log k)^{-1}t}\bigr)_{t\ge 0}$, whose scaling order is different from the diffusive scaling and the $α$-stable scaling, converges to a Brownian motion. Besides characterizing the limiting Brownian motion, we will give a convergence rate for associated scaled resolvents, which obeys the order $(\log k)^{-\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2(d-2)}+\varepsilon}$ with any $\varepsilon>0$ for all $d>3$.

Probabilistic Verification of Neural Networks via Efficient Probabilistic Hull Generation

The problem of probabilistic verification of a neural network investigates the probability of satisfying the safe constraints in the output space when the input is given by a probability distribution. It is significant to answer this problem when the input is affected by disturbances often modeled by probabilistic variables. In the paper, we propose a novel neural network probabilistic verification framework which computes a guaranteed range for the safe probability by efficiently finding safe and unsafe probabilistic hulls. Our approach consists of three main innovations: (1) a state space subdivision strategy using regression trees to produce probabilistic hulls, (2) a boundary-aware sampling method which identifies the safety boundary in the input space using samples that are later used for building regression trees, and (3) iterative refinement with probabilistic prioritization for computing a guaranteed range for the safe probability. The accuracy and efficiency of our approach are evaluated on various benchmarks including ACAS Xu and a rocket lander controller. The result shows an obvious advantage over the state of the art.

BAPO: Boundary-Aware Policy Optimization for Reliable Agentic Search

RL-based agentic search enables LLMs to solve complex questions via dynamic planning and external search. While this approach significantly enhances accuracy with agent policies optimized via large-scale reinforcement learning, we identify a critical gap in reliability: these agents fail to recognize their reasoning boundaries and rarely admit ``I DON'T KNOW'' (IDK) even when evidence is insufficient or reasoning reaches its limit. The lack of reliability often leads to plausible but unreliable answers, introducing significant risks in many real-world scenarios. To this end, we propose Boundary-Aware Policy Optimization (BAPO), a novel RL framework designed to cultivate reliable boundary awareness without compromising accuracy. BAPO introduces two key components: (i) a group-based boundary-aware reward that encourages an IDK response only when the reasoning reaches its limit, and (ii) an adaptive reward modulator that strategically suspends this reward during early exploration, preventing the model from exploiting IDK as a shortcut. Extensive experiments on four benchmarks demonstrate that BAPO substantially enhances the overall reliability of agentic search.

Q-Mask: Query-driven Causal Masks for Text Anchoring in OCR-Oriented Vision-Language Models

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is increasingly regarded as a foundational capability for modern vision-language models (VLMs), enabling them not only to read text in images but also to support downstream reasoning in real-world visual question answering (VQA). However, practical applications further require reliable text anchors, i.e., accurately grounding queried text to its corresponding spatial region. To systematically evaluate this capability, we introduce TextAnchor-Bench (TABench), a benchmark for fine-grained text-region grounding, which reveals that both general-purpose and OCR-specific VLMs still struggle to establish accurate and stable text anchors. To address this limitation, we propose Q-Mask, a precise OCR framework built upon a causal query-driven mask decoder (CQMD). Inspired by chain-of-thought reasoning, Q-Mask performs causal visual decoding that sequentially generates query-conditioned visual masks before producing the final OCR output. This visual CoT paradigm disentangles where the text is from what the text is, enforcing grounded evidence acquisition prior to recognition and enabling explicit text anchor construction during inference. To train CQMD, we construct TextAnchor-26M, a large-scale dataset of image-text pairs annotated with fine-grained masks corresponding to specific textual elements, encouraging stable text-region correspondences and injecting strong spatial priors into VLM training. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Q-Mask substantially improves text anchoring and understanding across diverse visual scenes.

OpenVLThinkerV2: A Generalist Multimodal Reasoning Model for Multi-domain Visual Tasks

Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) has emerged as the de facto Reinforcement Learning (RL) objective driving recent advancements in Multimodal Large Language Models. However, extending this success to open-source multimodal generalist models remains heavily constrained by two primary challenges: the extreme variance in reward topologies across diverse visual tasks, and the inherent difficulty of balancing fine-grained perception with multi-step reasoning capabilities. To address these issues, we introduce Gaussian GRPO (G$^2$RPO), a novel RL training objective that replaces standard linear scaling with non-linear distributional matching. By mathematically forcing the advantage distribution of any given task to strictly converge to a standard normal distribution, $\mathcal{N}(0,1)$, G$^2$RPO theoretically ensures inter-task gradient equity, mitigates vulnerabilities to heavy-tail outliers, and offers symmetric update for positive and negative rewards. Leveraging the enhanced training stability provided by G$^2$RPO, we introduce two task-level shaping mechanisms to seamlessly balance perception and reasoning. First, response length shaping dynamically elicits extended reasoning chains for complex queries while enforce direct outputs to bolster visual grounding. Second, entropy shaping tightly bounds the model's exploration zone, effectively preventing both entropy collapse and entropy explosion. Integrating these methodologies, we present OpenVLThinkerV2, a highly robust, general-purpose multimodal model. Extensive evaluations across 18 diverse benchmarks demonstrate its superior performance over strong open-source and leading proprietary frontier models.

MTSQL-R1: Towards Long-Horizon Multi-Turn Text-to-SQL via Agentic Training

Multi-turn Text-to-SQL aims to translate a user's conversational utterances into executable SQL while preserving dialogue coherence and grounding to the target schema. However, most existing systems only regard this task as a simple text translation task and follow a short-horizon paradigm, generating a query per turn without execution, explicit verification, and refinement, which leads to non-executable or incoherent outputs. We present MTSQL-R1, an agentic training framework for long-horizon multi-turn Text-to-SQL. We cast the task as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) in which an agent interacts with (i) a database for execution feedback and (ii) a persistent dialogue memory for coherence verification, performing an iterative propose to execute -> verify -> refine cycle until all checks pass. Experiments on COSQL and SPARC demonstrate that MTSQL-R1 consistently outperforms strong baselines, highlighting the importance of environment-driven verification and memory-guided refinement for conversational semantic parsing. Full recipes (including code, trained models, logs, reasoning trajectories, etc.) will be released after the internal review to contribute to community research.

ChemDFM-R: A Chemical Reasoning LLM Enhanced with Atomized Chemical Knowledge

Atomized chemical knowledge, such as functional group information of molecules and reactions, plays a pivotal intermediate role in the reasoning process that connects molecular structures with their properties and reactivities. While large language models (LLMs) have achieved impressive progress, the absence of atomized chemical knowledge results in their superficial understanding of chemistry and limited chemical reasoning capabilities. In this work, to tackle this problem, we develop a Chemical Reasoning LLM, ChemDFM-R. We first construct a comprehensive dataset of atomized chemical knowledge, ChemFG, annotating the presence of functional groups in molecules and the changes of functional groups during chemical reactions, to enhance the model's understanding of the fundamental principles and internal logic of chemistry. Then, we propose a mixed-source distillation method that initializes the model's reasoning capability with limited distilled data, and develop a four-stage training pipeline to equip the model with atomized chemical knowledge and chemical reasoning logic. Experiments on diverse chemical benchmarks demonstrate that ChemDFM-R achieves cutting-edge performance while providing interpretable, rationale-driven outputs, surpassing both the general-domain LLMs and domain-specific chemical LLMs. Moreover, ChemDFM-R achieves comparable or superior performance compared with cutting-edge commercial LLMs, such as o4-mini. Further case studies illustrate how explicit reasoning chains significantly improve the model's reliability, transparency, and practicality in real-world human-AI collaboration scenarios.
