Mixing plant for JUNO liquid scintillator: Design, construction, installation and commissioning

The most challenging part of building the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is the production of 20 kilotons of ultra pure Liquid Scintillator (LS). This paper presents the design, construction, installation, and commissioning of the LS Mixing Plant, a core facility dedicated to blending the primary organic solvent (LAB) with essential functional solutes (PPO, bis-MSB, and BHT). The main purpose of the Mixing Plant is to prepare and purify the concentrated Master Solution (MS) to achieve a low radioactive contamination background. The amount of radioactive contaminants in the MS are lowered by approximately two orders of magnitude after acid and water extraction, followed by a multi-stage filtration procedure. The purified MS is mixed with LAB and then diluted into the LS for JUNO experiments. Commissioning results of the LS verify that the Mixing Plant achieved its design goal, delivering ultra pure LS that satisfies the stringent radiopurity requirements for neutrino physics.

Target-oriented Multimodal Sentiment Classification with Counterfactual-enhanced Debiasing

Target-oriented multimodal sentiment classification seeks to predict sentiment polarity for specific targets from image-text pairs. While existing works achieve competitive performance, they often over-rely on textual content and fail to consider dataset biases, in particular word-level contextual biases. This leads to spurious correlations between text features and output labels, impairing classification accuracy. In this paper, we introduce a novel counterfactual-enhanced debiasing framework to reduce such spurious correlations. Our framework incorporates a counterfactual data augmentation strategy that minimally alters sentiment-related causal features, generating detail-matched image-text samples to guide the model's attention toward content tied to sentiment. Furthermore, for learning robust features from counterfactual data and prompting model decisions, we introduce an adaptive debiasing contrastive learning mechanism, which effectively mitigates the influence of biased words. Experimental results on several benchmark datasets show that our proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art baselines.

Combinatorial t-designs from quadratic functions

Combinatorial $t$-designs have been an interesting topic in combinatorics for decades. It was recently reported that the image sets of a fixed size of certain special polynomials may constitute a $t$-design. Till now only a small amount of work on constructing $t$-designs from special polynomials has been done, and it is in general hard to determine their parameters. In this paper, we investigate this idea further by using quadratic functions over finite fields, thereby obtain infinite families of $2$-designs, and explicitly determine their parameters. The obtained designs cover some earlier $2$-designs as special cases. Furthermore, we confirmed Conjecture $3$ in Ding and Tang (arXiv: 1903.07375, 2019).

A class of narrow-sense BCH codes over $\mathbb{F}_q$ of length $\frac{q^m-1}{2}$

BCH codes with efficient encoding and decoding algorithms have many applications in communications, cryptography and combinatorics design. This paper studies a class of linear codes of length $ \frac{q^m-1}{2}$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$ with special trace representation, where $q$ is an odd prime power. With the help of the inner distributions of some subsets of association schemes from bilinear forms associated with quadratic forms, we determine the weight enumerators of these codes. From determining some cyclotomic coset leaders $δ_i$ of cyclotomic cosets modulo $ \frac{q^m-1}{2}$, we prove that narrow-sense BCH codes of length $ \frac{q^m-1}{2}$ with designed distance $δ_i=\frac{q^m-q^{m-1}}{2}-1-\frac{q^{ \lfloor \frac{m-3}{2} \rfloor+i}-1}{2}$ have the corresponding trace representation, and have the minimal distance $d=δ_i$ and the Bose distance $d_B=δ_i$, where $1\leq i\leq \lfloor \frac{m+3}{4} \rfloor$.
