UGPhysics: A Comprehensive Benchmark for Undergraduate Physics Reasoning with Large Language Models

Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in solving complex reasoning tasks, particularly in mathematics. However, the domain of physics reasoning presents unique challenges that have received significantly less attention. Existing benchmarks often fall short in evaluating LLMs' abilities on the breadth and depth of undergraduate-level physics, underscoring the need for a comprehensive evaluation. To fill this gap, we introduce UGPhysics, a large-scale and comprehensive benchmark specifically designed to evaluate UnderGraduate-level Physics (UGPhysics) reasoning with LLMs. UGPhysics includes 5,520 undergraduate-level physics problems in both English and Chinese, covering 13 subjects with seven different answer types and four distinct physics reasoning skills, all rigorously screened for data leakage. Additionally, we develop a Model-Assistant Rule-based Judgment (MARJ) pipeline specifically tailored for assessing answer correctness of physics problems, ensuring accurate evaluation. Our evaluation of 31 leading LLMs shows that the highest overall accuracy, 49.8% (achieved by OpenAI-o1-mini), emphasizes the necessity for models with stronger physics reasoning skills, beyond math abilities. We hope UGPhysics, along with MARJ, will drive future advancements in AI for physics reasoning. Codes and data are available at https://github.com/YangLabHKUST/UGPhysics .

Regularized Barzilai-Borwein method

We develop a novel stepsize based on \BB method for solving some challenging optimization problems efficiently, named regularized \BB (RBB) stepsize. We indicate that RBB stepsize is the close solution to a $\ell_{2}^{2}$-regularized least squares problem. When the regularized item vanishes, the RBB stepsize reduces to the original \BB stepsize. RBB stepsize includes a class of valid stepsizes, such as another version of \BB stepsize. The global convergence of the corresponding RBB algorithm is proved in solving convex quadratic optimization problems. One scheme for adaptively generating regularization parameters was proposed, named adaptive two-step parameter. An enhanced RBB stepsize is used for solving quadratic and general optimization problems more efficiently. RBB stepsize could overcome the instability of BB stepsize in many ill-conditioned optimization problems. Moreover, RBB stepsize is more robust than BB stepsize in numerical experiments. Numerical examples show the advantage of using the proposed stepsize to solve some challenging optimization problems vividly.

CKnowEdit: A New Chinese Knowledge Editing Dataset for Linguistics, Facts, and Logic Error Correction in LLMs

Chinese, as a linguistic system rich in depth and complexity, is characterized by distinctive elements such as ancient poetry, proverbs, idioms, and other cultural constructs. However, current Large Language Models (LLMs) face limitations in these specialized domains, highlighting the need for the development of comprehensive datasets that can assess, continuously update, and progressively improve these culturally-grounded linguistic competencies through targeted training optimizations. To address this gap, we introduce CKnowEdit, the first-ever Chinese knowledge editing dataset designed to correct linguistic, factual, and logical errors in LLMs. We collect seven types of knowledge from a wide range of sources, including classical texts, idioms, and content from Baidu Tieba Ruozhiba, taking into account the unique polyphony, antithesis, and logical structures inherent in the Chinese language. By analyzing this dataset, we highlight the challenges current LLMs face in mastering Chinese. Furthermore, our evaluation of state-of-the-art knowledge editing techniques reveals opportunities to advance the correction of Chinese knowledge. Code and dataset are available at https://github.com/zjunlp/EasyEdit.

Electric field reconstruction with three polarizations for the radio detection of ultra-high energy particles

Accurate reconstruction of the electric field produced by Extensive Air Showers from the signals recorded by the antennas is essential for the radio detection technique, as the key parameters needed to retrieve information about the primary particle that generated the shower are the amplitude, polarization, frequency spectrum and energy fluence carried by the electric field at each measurement position. Conventional electric field reconstruction methods primarily focus on antennas with two horizontal polarizations. In this paper, we introduce an analytical $χ^2$ minimization method that operates with both two and three polarizations, providing the reconstructed electric field at each antenna. This solution has been verified for simple and realistic antenna responses, with a particular focus on inclined air showers. Our method achieves a standard deviation better than 4\% in determining the peak envelope amplitude of the electric field and better than 6\% in the estimation of the energy fluence, with an antenna response dependent bias. Additionally, we have studied the dependence of the method with arrival direction showing that it has a good performance in almost all of them. This work also demonstrates that incorporating vertically polarized antennas enhances the precision of reconstruction, leading to a more accurate and reliable electric field estimation for inclined air showers. Consequently, the method improves our ability to extract information about cosmic rays from the detected signals in current and future experiments.

AISHELL-5: The First Open-Source In-Car Multi-Channel Multi-Speaker Speech Dataset for Automatic Speech Diarization and Recognition

This paper delineates AISHELL-5, the first open-source in-car multi-channel multi-speaker Mandarin automatic speech recognition (ASR) dataset. AISHLL-5 includes two parts: (1) over 100 hours of multi-channel speech data recorded in an electric vehicle across more than 60 real driving scenarios. This audio data consists of four far-field speech signals captured by microphones located on each car door, as well as near-field signals obtained from high-fidelity headset microphones worn by each speaker. (2) a collection of 40 hours of real-world environmental noise recordings, which supports the in-car speech data simulation. Moreover, we also provide an open-access, reproducible baseline system based on this dataset. This system features a speech frontend model that employs speech source separation to extract each speaker's clean speech from the far-field signals, along with a speech recognition module that accurately transcribes the content of each individual speaker. Experimental results demonstrate the challenges faced by various mainstream ASR models when evaluated on the AISHELL-5. We firmly believe the AISHELL-5 dataset will significantly advance the research on ASR systems under complex driving scenarios by establishing the first publicly available in-car ASR benchmark.

Multi-Robot System for Cooperative Exploration in Unknown Environments: A Survey

With the real need of field exploration in large-scale and extreme outdoor environments, cooperative exploration tasks have garnered increasing attention. This paper presents a comprehensive review of multi-robot cooperative exploration systems. First, we review the evolution of robotic exploration and introduce a modular research framework tailored for multi-robot cooperative exploration. Based on this framework, we systematically categorize and summarize key system components. As a foundational module for multi-robot exploration, the localization and mapping module is primarily introduced by focusing on global and relative pose estimation, as well as multi-robot map merging techniques. The cooperative motion module is further divided into learning-based approaches and multi-stage planning, with the latter encompassing target generation, task allocation, and motion planning strategies. Given the communication constraints of real-world environments, we also analyze the communication module, emphasizing how robots exchange information within local communication ranges and under limited transmission capabilities. In addition, we introduce the actual application of multi-robot cooperative exploration systems in DARPA SubT Challenge. Finally, we discuss the challenges and future research directions for multi-robot cooperative exploration in light of real-world trends. This review aims to serve as a valuable reference for researchers and practitioners in the field.

Learning Task-preferred Inference Routes for Gradient De-conflict in Multi-output DNNs

Multi-output deep neural networks(MONs) contain multiple task branches, and these tasks usually share partial network filters that lead to the entanglement of different task inference routes. Due to the inconsistent optimization objectives, the task gradients used for training MONs will interfere with each other on the shared routes, which will decrease the overall model performance. To address this issue, we propose a novel gradient de-conflict algorithm named DR-MGF(Dynamic Routes and Meta-weighted Gradient Fusion) in this work. Different from existing de-conflict methods, DR-MGF achieves gradient de-conflict in MONs by learning task-preferred inference routes. The proposed method is motivated by our experimental findings: the shared filters are not equally important to different tasks. By designing the learnable task-specific importance variables, DR-MGF evaluates the importance of filters for different tasks. Through making the dominances of tasks over filters be proportional to the task-specific importance of filters, DR-MGF can effectively reduce the inter-task interference. The task-specific importance variables ultimately determine task-preferred inference routes at the end of training iterations. Extensive experimental results on CIFAR, ImageNet, and NYUv2 illustrate that DR-MGF outperforms the existing de-conflict methods both in prediction accuracy and convergence speed of MONs. Furthermore, DR-MGF can be extended to general MONs without modifying the overall network structures.

Can We Verify Step by Step for Incorrect Answer Detection?

Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting has marked a significant advancement in enhancing the reasoning capabilities of large language models (LLMs). Previous studies have developed various extensions of CoT, which focus primarily on enhancing end-task performance. In addition, there has been research on assessing the quality of reasoning chains in CoT. This raises an intriguing question: Is it possible to predict the accuracy of LLM outputs by scrutinizing the reasoning chains they generate? To answer this research question, we introduce a benchmark, R2PE, designed specifically to explore the relationship between reasoning chains and performance in various reasoning tasks spanning five different domains. This benchmark aims to measure the falsehood of the final output of LLMs based on the reasoning steps. To make full use of information in multiple reasoning chains, we propose the process discernibility score (PDS) framework that beats the answer-checking baseline by a large margin. Concretely, this resulted in an average of $5.1\%$ increase in the F1 score and $2.97\%$ improvement in AUC-PR across all 45 subsets within R2PE. We further demonstrate our PDS's efficacy in advancing open-domain QA accuracy.

From Air to Wear: Personalized 3D Digital Fashion with AR/VR Immersive 3D Sketching

In the era of immersive consumer electronics, such as AR/VR headsets and smart devices, people increasingly seek ways to express their identity through virtual fashion. However, existing 3D garment design tools remain inaccessible to everyday users due to steep technical barriers and limited data. In this work, we introduce a 3D sketch-driven 3D garment generation framework that empowers ordinary users - even those without design experience - to create high-quality digital clothing through simple 3D sketches in AR/VR environments. By combining a conditional diffusion model, a sketch encoder trained in a shared latent space, and an adaptive curriculum learning strategy, our system interprets imprecise, free-hand input and produces realistic, personalized garments. To address the scarcity of training data, we also introduce KO3DClothes, a new dataset of paired 3D garments and user-created sketches. Extensive experiments and user studies confirm that our method significantly outperforms existing baselines in both fidelity and usability, demonstrating its promise for democratized fashion design on next-generation consumer platforms.

NVSPolicy: Adaptive Novel-View Synthesis for Generalizable Language-Conditioned Policy Learning

Recent advances in deep generative models demonstrate unprecedented zero-shot generalization capabilities, offering great potential for robot manipulation in unstructured environments. Given a partial observation of a scene, deep generative models could generate the unseen regions and therefore provide more context, which enhances the capability of robots to generalize across unseen environments. However, due to the visual artifacts in generated images and inefficient integration of multi-modal features in policy learning, this direction remains an open challenge. We introduce NVSPolicy, a generalizable language-conditioned policy learning method that couples an adaptive novel-view synthesis module with a hierarchical policy network. Given an input image, NVSPolicy dynamically selects an informative viewpoint and synthesizes an adaptive novel-view image to enrich the visual context. To mitigate the impact of the imperfect synthesized images, we adopt a cycle-consistent VAE mechanism that disentangles the visual features into the semantic feature and the remaining feature. The two features are then fed into the hierarchical policy network respectively: the semantic feature informs the high-level meta-skill selection, and the remaining feature guides low-level action estimation. Moreover, we propose several practical mechanisms to make the proposed method efficient. Extensive experiments on CALVIN demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance of our method. Specifically, it achieves an average success rate of 90.4\% across all tasks, greatly outperforming the recent methods. Ablation studies confirm the significance of our adaptive novel-view synthesis paradigm. In addition, we evaluate NVSPolicy on a real-world robotic platform to demonstrate its practical applicability.

Versatile Distributed Maneuvering with Generalized Formations using Guiding Vector Fields

This paper presents a unified approach to realize versatile distributed maneuvering with generalized formations. Specifically, we decompose the robots' maneuvers into two independent components, i.e., interception and enclosing, which are parameterized by two independent virtual coordinates. Treating these two virtual coordinates as dimensions of an abstract manifold, we derive the corresponding singularity-free guiding vector field (GVF), which, along with a distributed coordination mechanism based on the consensus theory, guides robots to achieve various motions (i.e., versatile maneuvering), including (a) formation tracking, (b) target enclosing, and (c) circumnavigation. Additional motion parameters can generate more complex cooperative robot motions. Based on GVFs, we design a controller for a nonholonomic robot model. Besides the theoretical results, extensive simulations and experiments are performed to validate the effectiveness of the approach.

Extremely Low Mass Ratio Contact Binaries. II. The First Photometric and Spectroscopic Investigations of Six Systems with Orbital Periods Longer than 0.5 days

The photometric and spectroscopic studies of six contact binaries were performed for the first time. The orbital periods of all the six targets are longer than 0.5d, and we discovered that their mass ratios are smaller than 0.15. So, they are extremely low mass-ratio contact binaries. Only one target is a W-subtype contact binary (ASASSN-V J105032.88+420829.0), while the others are A-subtype contact binaries. From orbital period analysis, ASASSN-V J075442.44+555623.2 shows no orbital period change. Three of the six targets demonstrate a secular period increase, and two targets for a secular period decrease. We investigated the LAMOST spectra employing the spectral subtraction method. All six contact binaries show no chromospheric emission line, implying no chromospheric activity. Their absolute parameters, initial masses, ages, energy transfer parameters, and instability parameters were calculated. The bolometric luminosity ratios ($(L_2/L_1)_{bol}$), the energy transfer parameters ($β$), the contact degrees ($f$), and the mass ratios ($q$) were collected for a sample of 218 contact binaries and we analyzed and discussed some correlations. The results by analyzing the relation between $β$, $f$ and $q$ indicate that the energy transfer parameter between the two components of extremely low mass-ratio contact binaries is independent of the contact degree. And the predicted cutoff mass ratio was estimated as 0.021 by analyzing the relation between $f$ and $q$.

CheatAgent: Attacking LLM-Empowered Recommender Systems via LLM Agent

Recently, Large Language Model (LLM)-empowered recommender systems (RecSys) have brought significant advances in personalized user experience and have attracted considerable attention. Despite the impressive progress, the research question regarding the safety vulnerability of LLM-empowered RecSys still remains largely under-investigated. Given the security and privacy concerns, it is more practical to focus on attacking the black-box RecSys, where attackers can only observe the system's inputs and outputs. However, traditional attack approaches employing reinforcement learning (RL) agents are not effective for attacking LLM-empowered RecSys due to the limited capabilities in processing complex textual inputs, planning, and reasoning. On the other hand, LLMs provide unprecedented opportunities to serve as attack agents to attack RecSys because of their impressive capability in simulating human-like decision-making processes. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel attack framework called CheatAgent by harnessing the human-like capabilities of LLMs, where an LLM-based agent is developed to attack LLM-Empowered RecSys. Specifically, our method first identifies the insertion position for maximum impact with minimal input modification. After that, the LLM agent is designed to generate adversarial perturbations to insert at target positions. To further improve the quality of generated perturbations, we utilize the prompt tuning technique to improve attacking strategies via feedback from the victim RecSys iteratively. Extensive experiments across three real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed attacking method.

DAM-Net: Domain Adaptation Network with Micro-Labeled Fine-Tuning for Change Detection

Change detection (CD) in remote sensing imagery plays a crucial role in various applications such as urban planning, damage assessment, and resource management. While deep learning approaches have significantly advanced CD performance, current methods suffer from poor domain adaptability, requiring extensive labeled data for retraining when applied to new scenarios. This limitation severely restricts their practical applications across different datasets. In this work, we propose DAM-Net: a Domain Adaptation Network with Micro-Labeled Fine-Tuning for CD. Our network introduces adversarial domain adaptation to CD for, utilizing a specially designed segmentation-discriminator and alternating training strategy to enable effective transfer between domains. Additionally, we propose a novel Micro-Labeled Fine-Tuning approach that strategically selects and labels a minimal amount of samples (less than 1%) to enhance domain adaptation. The network incorporates a Multi-Temporal Transformer for feature fusion and optimized backbone structure based on previous research. Experiments conducted on the LEVIR-CD and WHU-CD datasets demonstrate that DAM-Net significantly outperforms existing domain adaptation methods, achieving comparable performance to semi-supervised approaches that require 10% labeled data while using only 0.3% labeled samples. Our approach significantly advances cross-dataset CD applications and provides a new paradigm for efficient domain adaptation in remote sensing. The source code of DAM-Net will be made publicly available upon publication.

Aligning Generative Denoising with Discriminative Objectives Unleashes Diffusion for Visual Perception

With the success of image generation, generative diffusion models are increasingly adopted for discriminative tasks, as pixel generation provides a unified perception interface. However, directly repurposing the generative denoising process for discriminative objectives reveals critical gaps rarely addressed previously. Generative models tolerate intermediate sampling errors if the final distribution remains plausible, but discriminative tasks require rigorous accuracy throughout, as evidenced in challenging multi-modal tasks like referring image segmentation. Motivated by this gap, we analyze and enhance alignment between generative diffusion processes and perception tasks, focusing on how perception quality evolves during denoising. We find: (1) earlier denoising steps contribute disproportionately to perception quality, prompting us to propose tailored learning objectives reflecting varying timestep contributions; (2) later denoising steps show unexpected perception degradation, highlighting sensitivity to training-denoising distribution shifts, addressed by our diffusion-tailored data augmentation; and (3) generative processes uniquely enable interactivity, serving as controllable user interfaces adaptable to correctional prompts in multi-round interactions. Our insights significantly improve diffusion-based perception models without architectural changes, achieving state-of-the-art performance on depth estimation, referring image segmentation, and generalist perception tasks. Improving In-Context Learning with Reasoning Distillation

Language models rely on semantic priors to perform in-context learning, which leads to poor performance on tasks involving inductive reasoning. Instruction-tuning methods based on imitation learning can superficially enhance the in-context learning performance of language models, but they often fail to improve the model's understanding of the underlying rules that connect inputs and outputs in few-shot demonstrations. We propose ReDis, a reasoning distillation technique designed to improve the inductive reasoning capabilities of language models. Through a careful combination of data augmentation, filtering, supervised fine-tuning, and alignment, ReDis achieves significant performance improvements across a diverse range of tasks, including 1D-ARC, List Function, ACRE, and MiniSCAN. Experiments on three language model backbones show that ReDis outperforms equivalent few-shot prompting baselines across all tasks and even surpasses the teacher model, GPT-4o, in some cases. ReDis, based on the LLaMA-3 backbone, achieves relative improvements of 23.2%, 2.8%, and 66.6% over GPT-4o on 1D-ARC, ACRE, and MiniSCAN, respectively, within a similar hypothesis search space. The code, dataset, and model checkpoints will be made available at https://github.com/NafisSadeq/reasoning-distillation.git.

MusicEval: A Generative Music Dataset with Expert Ratings for Automatic Text-to-Music Evaluation

The technology for generating music from textual descriptions has seen rapid advancements. However, evaluating text-to-music (TTM) systems remains a significant challenge, primarily due to the difficulty of balancing performance and cost with existing objective and subjective evaluation methods. In this paper, we propose an automatic assessment task for TTM models to align with human perception. To address the TTM evaluation challenges posed by the professional requirements of music evaluation and the complexity of the relationship between text and music, we collect MusicEval, the first generative music assessment dataset. This dataset contains 2,748 music clips generated by 31 advanced and widely used models in response to 384 text prompts, along with 13,740 ratings from 14 music experts. Furthermore, we design a CLAP-based assessment model built on this dataset, and our experimental results validate the feasibility of the proposed task, providing a valuable reference for future development in TTM evaluation.
