Study of CP violation and CPT violation in $K^{\ast}(892)\rightarrow K_{S,L}^{0}π$ decays at BESIII

The decays $K^{\ast}(892)\rightarrow K_{S,L}^{0}π$ can be used to study CP violation and CPT violation. The $K^{\ast}(892)$ (hereinafter referred to as $K^{\ast}$) meson can be produced via $J/ψ$ decays at BESIII. In this paper, we study CP violation and $K_S^0-K_L^0$ asymmetry in the $J/ψ$ decays involving the $K^{\ast}$ meson in the final states and obtain the following results \begin{align} {\mathcal A}_{CP}\left(J/ψ\rightarrow K^{\ast}f_{J/ψ}\rightarrow K^0_{S}πf_{J/ψ}\right)=\left(3.64\pm0.04\right)\times 10^{-3},\nonumber\\ {\mathcal A}_{CP}\left(J/ψ\rightarrow K^{\ast}f_{J/ψ}\rightarrow K^0_{L}πf_{J/ψ}\right)=\left(-3.32\pm0.04\right)\times 10^{-3},\nonumber \end{align} and \begin{align} &R\left(J/ψ\rightarrow K^{\ast}f_{J/ψ}\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}πf_{J/ψ} \right)=\left(3.51\pm0.03\right)\times 10^{-3},\nonumber\\ &R\left(J/ψ\rightarrow \bar{K}^{\ast} \bar{f}_{J/ψ}\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π\bar{f}_{J/ψ} \right)=\left(-3.45\pm0.03\right)\times 10^{-3}.\nonumber \end{align} Basing on two cases: the samples of $10^{10}$ and $10^{12}$ $J/ψ$ events, we calculate the expected numbers of the observed signal events on the CP violation and the $K_S^0-K_L^0$ asymmetry in the $J/ψ$ decays with $K^{\ast}$ meson in the final states, we find that the BESIII experiment may be able to unambiguously observe CP violation and $K_S^0-K_L^0$ asymmetry for each of these two cases. We study the possibility to constraint the CPT violation parameter $z$ and discuss the sensitivity for the measurement of $z$ in $J/ψ$ decays with $K^{\ast}$ meson in the final states at BESIII. The sensitivity of the measurement of $z$ depend on the measured precision of the parameters $m_L-m_S$, $Γ_L$, $Γ_S$, $p$ and $q$ and the consistence between the values of $t_0$ and $t_1$ and the event selection criteria in experiment.

Magnetization tunable Weyl states in EuB6

The interplay between magnetism and topological band structure offers extraordinary opportunities to realize rich exotic magnetic topological phases such as axion insulators, Weyl semimetals, and quantum anomalous Hall insulators, which therefore has attracted fast growing research interest. The rare-earth hexaborides EuB6 represents an interesting magnetic topological phase with tunable magnetizations along different crystallographic directions, while the correlation with the topological properties remains scarcely explored. In this work, combining magnetotransport measurements and first principles calculations, we demonstrate that EuB6 exhibits versatile magnetic topological phases along different crystallographic directions, which tightly correlate with the varied magnetizations. Moreover, by virtue of the weak magneto-crystalline anisotropy and the relatively strong coupling between the local magnetization and the conduction electrons, we show that the magnetic ground state of the system can be directly probed by the anisotropy in the magnetotransport properties. Our work thus introduces an excellent platform to study the rich topological phases that are tunable by magnetic orders.

Prospects for Constraining Interacting Dark Energy Models with 21 cm Intensity Mapping Experiments

We forecast constraints on cosmological parameters in the interacting dark energy models using the mock data generated for neutral hydrogen intensity mapping (IM) experiments. In this work, we only consider the interacting dark energy models with energy transfer rate $Q=βHρ_{\rm c}$, and take BINGO, FAST, SKA1-MID, and Tianlai as typical examples of the 21 cm IM experiments. We find that the Tianlai cylinder array will play an important role in constraining the interacting dark energy model. Assuming perfect foreground removal and calibration, and using the Tianlai-alone data, we obtain $σ(H_0)=0.19$ km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$, $σ(Ω_{\rm m})=0.0033$ and $σ(σ_8)=0.0033$ in the I$Λ$CDM model, which are much better than the results of Planck+optical BAO (i.e. optical galaxy surveys). However, the Tianlai-alone data cannot provide a very tight constraint on the coupling parameter $β$ compared with Planck+optical BAO, while the Planck+Tianlai data can give a rather tight constraint of $σ(β)=0.00023$ due to the parameter degeneracies being well broken by the data combination. In the I$w$CDM model, we obtain $σ(β)=0.00079$ and $σ(w)=0.013$ from Planck+Tianlai. In addition, we also make a detailed comparison among BINGO, FAST, SKA1-MID, and Tianlai in constraining the interacting dark energy models. We show that future 21 cm IM experiments will provide a useful tool for exploring the nature of dark energy and play a significant role in measuring the coupling between dark energy and dark matter.

Counting cliques in $1$-planar graphs

The problem of maximising the number of cliques among $n$-vertex graphs from various graph classes has received considerable attention. We investigate this problem for the class of $1$-planar graphs where we determine precisely the maximum total number of cliques as well as the maximum number of cliques of any fixed size. We also precisely characterise the extremal graphs for these problems.

Epitaxial Integration of a Perpendicularly Magnetized Ferrimagnetic Metal on a Ferroelectric oxide for Electric-Field Control

Ferrimagnets, which contain the advantages of both ferromagnets (detectable moments) and antiferromagnets (ultrafast spin dynamics), have recently attracted great attention. Here we report the optimization of epitaxial growth of a tetragonal perpendicularly magnetized ferrimagnet Mn2Ga on MgO. Electrical transport, magnetic properties and the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) were systematically studied. Furthermore, we successfully integrated high-quality epitaxial ferrimagnetic Mn2Ga thin films onto ferroelectric PMN-PT single crystals with a MgO buffer layer. It was found that the AHE of such a ferrimagnet can be effectively modulated by a small electric field over a large temperature range in a nonvolatile manner. This work thus demonstrates the great potential of ferrimagnets for developing high-density and low-power spintronic devices.

Phantom Bethe excitations and spin helix eigenstates in integrable periodic and open spin chains

We demonstrate the existence of special phantom excitations for open and periodically closed integrable systems at the example of the $XXZ$ Heisenberg spin chain. The phantom excitations do not contribute to the energy of the Bethe state and correspond to special solutions to the Bethe Ansatz equations with infinite "phantom" Bethe roots. The phantom Bethe roots lead to degeneracies between different magnetization sectors in the periodic case and to the appearance of spin helix states (SHS), i.e. periodically modulated states of chiral nature in both open and closed systems. For the periodic chain, phantom Bethe root (PBR) solutions appear for anisotropies $\De=\coshη$ with $\exp(η)$ being a root of unity, thus restricting the phenomenon to the critical region $|\De|<1$. For the open chain, PBR solutions appear for any value of anisotropy, both in the critical and in the non-critical region, provided that the boundary fields satisfy a criterion which we derive in this paper. There exist PBR solutions with all Bethe roots being phantom, and PBR solutions that consist of phantom roots as well as regular (finite) roots. Implications of our results for an experiment are discussed.

The structure and the list 3-dynamic coloring of outer-1-planar graphs

An outer-1-planar graph is a graph admitting a drawing in the plane so that all vertices appear in the outer region of the drawing and every edge crosses at most one other edge. This paper establishes the local structure of outer-1-planar graphs by proving that each outer-1-planar graph contains one of the seventeen fixed configurations, and the list of those configurations is minimal in the sense that for each fixed configuration there exist outer-1-planar graphs containing this configuration that do not contain any of another sixteen configurations. There are two interesting applications of this structural theorem. First of all, we conclude that every (resp. maximal) outer-1-planar graph of minimum degree at least 2 has an edge with the sum of the degrees of its two end-vertices being at most 9 (resp. 7), and this upper bound is sharp. On the other hand, we show that the list 3-dynamic chromatic number of every outer-1-planar graph is at most 6, and this upper bound is best possible.

Freeze-in self-interacting dark matter in warped extra dimension

A classically scale-invariant scalar singlet can be a MeV-scale dark matter, with a feeble Higgs portal coupling at $\mathcal{O}(10^{-10})$. Besides, an $\mathcal{O}(0.1)$ self-interaction coupling could further serve to alleviate the small-scale problems in the Universe. We show that, such a dark matter candidate can naturally arise in the warped extra dimension, with the huge span of parameter space predicted well within $\mathcal{O}(1)$ fundamental parameters.

Electric-Field-Controlled Antiferromagnetic Spintronic Devices

In recent years, the field of antiferromagnetic spintronics has been substantially advanced. Electric-field control is a promising approach to achieving ultra-low power spintronic devices via suppressing Joule heating. In this article, cutting-edge research, including electric-field modulation of antiferromagnetic spintronic devices using strain, ionic liquids, dielectric materials, and electrochemical ionic migration, are comprehensively reviewed. Various emergent topics such as the Neel spin-orbit torque, chiral spintronics, topological antiferromagnetic spintronics, anisotropic magnetoresistance, memory devices, two-dimensional magnetism, and magneto-ionic modulation with respect to antiferromagnets are examined. In conclusion, we envision the possibility of realizing high-quality room-temperature antiferromagnetic tunnel junctions, antiferromagnetic spin logic devices, and artificial antiferromagnetic neurons. It is expected that this work provides an appropriate and forward-looking perspective that will promote the rapid development of this field.

Giant Piezospintronic Effect in a Noncollinear Antiferromagnetic Metal

One of the main bottleneck issues for room-temperature antiferromagnetic spintronic devices is the small signal read-out owing to the limited anisotropic magnetoresistance in antiferromagnets. However, this could be overcome by either utilizing the Berry-curvature-induced anomalous Hall resistance in noncollinear antiferromagnets or establishing tunnel junction devices based on effective manipulation of antiferromagnetic spins. In this work, we demonstrate the giant piezoelectric strain control of the spin structure and the anomalous Hall resistance in a noncollinear antiferromagnetic metal - D019 hexagonal Mn3Ga. Furthermore, we built tunnel junction devices with a diameter of 200 nm to amplify the maximum tunneling resistance ratio to more than 10% at room-temperature, which thus implies significant potential of noncollinear antiferromagnets for large signal-output and high-density antiferromagnetic spintronic device applications.

Holographic p-wave superconductivity from higher derivative theory

We construct a holographic SU(2) p-wave superconductor model with Weyl corrections. The high derivative (HD) terms do not seem to spoil the generation of the p-wave superconducting phase. We mainly study the properties of AC conductivity, which is absent in holographic SU(2) p-wave superconductor with Weyl corrections. The conductivities in superconducting phase exhibit obvious anisotropic behaviors. Along $y$ direction, the conductivity $σ_{yy}$ is similar to that of holographic s-wave superconductor. The superconducting energy gap exhibits a wide extension. For the conductivity $σ_{xx}$ along $x$ direction, the behaviors of the real part in the normal state are closely similar to that of $σ_{yy}$. However, the anisotropy of the conductivity obviously shows up in the superconducting phase. A Drude-like peak at low frequency emerges in $Reσ_{xx}$ once the system enters into the superconducting phase, regardless of the behaviors in normal state.

Auxetics-Inspired Tunable Metamaterials for Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Auxetics refers to structures or materials with a negative Poisson's ratio, thereby capable of exhibiting counter-intuitive behaviors. Herein, auxetic structures are exploited to design mechanically tunable metamaterials in both planar and hemispherical configurations operating at megahertz (MHz) frequencies, optimized for their application to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Specially, the reported tunable metamaterials are composed of arrays of inter-jointed unit cells featuring metallic helices, enabling auxetic patterns with a negative Poisson's ratio. The deployable deformation of the metamaterials yields an added degree of freedom with respect to frequency tunability through the resultant modification of the electromagnetic interactions between unit cells. The metamaterials are fabricated using 3D printing technology and a ~20 MHz frequency shift of the resonance mode is enabled during deformation. Experimental validation is performed in a clinical (3.0 Tesla) MRI, demonstrating that the metamaterials enable a marked boost in radiofrequency (RF) field strength under resonance matched conditions, ultimately yielding a dramatic increase in the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) (~ 4.5X) of MRI. The tunable metamaterials presented herein offer a novel pathway towards the practical utilization of metamaterials in MRI, as well as a range of other emerging applications.

Chiral coordinate Bethe ansatz for phantom eigenstates in the open XXZ spin-$\frac12$ chain

We construct the coordinate Bethe ansatz for all eigenstates of the open spin-$\frac12$ XXZ chain that fulfill the phantom roots criterion (PRC). Under the PRC, the Hilbert space splits into two invariant subspaces and there are two sets of homogeneous Bethe ansatz equations (BAE) to characterize the subspaces in each case. We propose two sets of vectors with chiral shocks to span the invariant subspaces and expand the corresponding eigenstates. All the vectors are factorized and have symmetrical and simple structures. Using several simple cases as examples, we present the core elements of our generalized coordinate Bethe ansatz method. The eigenstates are expanded in our generating set and show clear chirality and certain symmetry properties. The bulk scattering matrices, the reflection matrices on the two boundaries and the BAE are obtained, which demonstrates the agreement with other approaches. Some hypotheses are formulated for the generalization of our approach.

Interrogating probabilistic inversion results for subsurface structural information

The goal of a scientific investigation is to find answers to specific questions. In geosciences this is typically achieved by solving an inference or inverse problem and interpreting the solution. However, the answer obtained is often biased because the solution to an inverse problem is nonunique and human interpretation is a biased process. Interrogation theory provides a systematic way to find optimal answers by considering their full uncertainty estimates, and by designing an objective function that defines desirable qualities in the answer. In this study we demonstrate interrogation theory by quantifying the size of a particular subsurface structure. The results show that interrogation theory provides an accurate estimate of the true answer, which cannot be obtained by direct, subjective interpretation of the solution mean and standard deviation. This demonstrates the value of interrogation theory. It also shows that fully nonlinear uncertainty assessments may be critical in order to address real-world scientific problems, which goes some way towards justifying their computational expense.

Single pixel wide gamut dynamic color modulation based on graphene micromechanical system

Dynamic color modulation in the composite structure of graphene microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)- photonic crystal microcavity is investigated in this work. The designed photonic crystal microcavity has three resonant standing wave modes corresponding to the three primary colors of red (R), green (G) and blue (B), forming strong localization of light in three modes at different positions of the microcavity. Once graphene is added, it can govern the transmittance of three modes. When graphene is located in the abdomen of the standing wave, which has strong light absorption and therefore the structure's transmittance is lower, or when graphene is located in the node of the standing wave, it has weak light absorption and therefore the structure's transmittance is higher. Therefore, the graphene absorption of different colors of light can be regulated dynamically by applying voltages to tune the equilibrium position of the graphene MEMS in the microcavity, consequently realizing the output of vivid monochromatic light or multiple mixed colors of light within a single pixel, thus greatly improving the resolution. Our work provides a route to dynamic color modulation with graphene and provides guidance for the design and manufacture of ultrahigh resolution, ultrafast modulation and wide color gamut interferometric modulator displays.

Towards interpreting computer vision based on transformation invariant optimization

Interpreting how does deep neural networks (DNNs) make predictions is a vital field in artificial intelligence, which hinders wide applications of DNNs. Visualization of learned representations helps we humans understand the vision of DNNs. In this work, visualized images that can activate the neural network to the target classes are generated by back-propagation method. Here, rotation and scaling operations are applied to introduce the transformation invariance in the image generating process, which we find a significant improvement on visualization effect. Finally, we show some cases that such method can help us to gain insight into neural networks.

Forecast for cosmological parameter estimation with gravitational-wave standard sirens from the LISA-Taiji network

LISA and Taiji are expected to form a space-based gravitational-wave (GW) detection network in the future. In this work, we make a forecast for the cosmological parameter estimation with the standard siren observation from the LISA-Taiji network. We simulate the standard siren data based on a scenario with configuration angle of $40^{\circ}$ between LISA and Taiji. Three models for the population of massive black hole binary (MBHB), i.e., pop III, Q3d, and Q3nod, are considered to predict the events of MBHB mergers. We find that, based on the LISA-Taiji network, the number of electromagnetic (EM) counterparts detected is almost doubled compared with the case of single Taiji mission. Therefore, the LISA-Taiji network's standard siren observation could provide much tighter constraints on cosmological parameters. For example, solely using the standard sirens from the LISA-Taiji network, the constraint precision of $H_0$ could reach $1.3\%$. Moreover, combined with the CMB data, the GW-EM observation based on the LISA-Taiji network could also tightly constrain the equation of state of dark energy, e.g., the constraint precision of $w$ reaches about $4\%$, which is comparable with the result of CMB+BAO+SN. It is concluded that the GW standard sirens from the LISA-Taiji network will become a useful cosmological probe in understanding the nature of dark energy in the future.

Nuclear reaction measurements of 80.5 MeV/u 12C beam bombarding on C, W, Cu, Au, Pb targets

To get the energy spectrum distribution and cross-sections of emitted light charged particles and explore the nuclear reaction, a experiment of 80.5 MeV/u 12C beam bombarding on C, W, Cu, Au, Pb targets has been carried out at Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Science. 30, 60 and 120 degree relative to the incident beam have been detected using three sets of telescope detectors. The results indicate that there is a tendency that heavier targets have larger double differential cross-sections and the emitted fragments are more likely to go forward. Besides, the decrease of cross-sections of fragments producing with the increasing emitted angles may follow some kind of pattern.
