LFQA-E: Carefully Benchmarking Long-form QA Evaluation

Long-Form Question Answering (LFQA) involves generating comprehensive, paragraph-level responses to open-ended questions, which poses a significant challenge for evaluation due to the richness of information and flexible response format. Existing LFQA-evaluation benchmarks often lack reference answers and are limited in size and topic coverage, reducing their reliability. To address this gap, we introduce LFQA-E, a well-constructed, multilingual, and reference-based benchmark designed to rigorously evaluate automatic metrics for LFQA. LFQA-E comprises 1618 questions and 7323 pairwise comparisons across 15 topics, drawn from diverse sources such as online queries and examination questions, thereby enabling a comprehensive assessment of evaluation metrics. We examine five categories of metrics, encompassing 17 specific methods, using LFQA-E. The results demonstrate that none of the existing automatic metrics perform comparably to human judgments, highlighting their inability to capture the dense information in long-form responses. Furthermore, we present a detailed analysis of the failure cases and the generalization capacity of these metrics, offering insights to guide the future development of LFQA evaluation methods. The benchmark and code are available at https://github.com/YuchenFan48/LFQA-E.

EVA-Score: Evaluating Abstractive Long-form Summarization on Informativeness through Extraction and Validation

Since LLMs emerged, more attention has been paid to abstractive long-form summarization, where longer input sequences indicate more information contained. Nevertheless, the automatic evaluation of such summaries remains underexplored. The current evaluation metrics for long-form summarization either use similarity-based metrics like ROUGE and BERTScore or LLM-based metrics using appropriate prompts or pre-defined schema. We argue that the former only relies on similarity and fails to consider informativeness while the latter lacks quantitative analysis of informative richness, and is rather subjective and hard to explain. Current evaluation metrics either use traditional metrics like ROUGE and BERTScore, which rely on surface-level similarity and fail to consider informativeness, or simple LLM-based metrics, which are not robust and easily overwhelmed by the long contexts. In this paper, we propose a new evaluation metric called EVA-Score to extract all information from the given summaries, identify overlapped information based on reference, and calculate the information score. We test EVA-Score on several datasets and the experimental results reveal that EVA-Score shows the highest correlation with humans. We also re-evaluate the performance of LLMs on long-form summarization from the information perspective. The results indicate that responses of LLMs still have a gap with the human-written answers. Moreover, we provide a detailed analysis of the effectiveness of EVA-Score, forecasting future ways to automatically evaluate abstractive long-form summarization.

The Impact of Ionic Anharmonicity on Superconductivity in Metal-Stuffed B-C Clathrates

Metal-stuffed B$-$C compounds with sodalite clathrate structure have captured increasing attention due to their predicted exceptional superconductivity above liquid nitrogen temperature at ambient pressure. However, by neglecting the quantum lattice anharmonicity, the existing studies may result in an incomplete understanding of such a lightweight system. Here, using state-of-the-art ab initio methods incorporating quantum effects and machine learning potentials, we revisit the properties of a series of $XY$$\text{B}_{6}\text{C}_{6}$ clathrates where $X$ and $Y$ are metals. Our findings show that ionic quantum and anharmonic effects can harden the $E_g$ and $E_u$ vibrational modes, enabling the dynamical stability of 15 materials previously considered unstable in the harmonic approximation, including materials with previously unreported ($XY$)$^{1+}$ state, which is demonstrated here to be crucial to reach high critical temperatures. Further calculations based on the anisotropic Migdal-Eliashberg equation demonstrate that the $T_\text{c}$ values for KRb$\text{B}_{6}\text{C}_{6}$ and Rb$\text{B}_{3}\text{C}_{3}$ among these stabilized compounds are 102 and 115 K at 0 and 15 GPa, respectively, both being higher than $T_\text{c}$ of 92 K of KPb$\text{B}_{6}\text{C}_{6}$ at the anharmonic level. These record-high $T_\text{c}$ values, surpassing liquid nitrogen temperatures, emphasize the importance of anharmonic effects in stabilizing B-C clathrates with large electron-phonon coupling strength and advancing the search for high-$T_\text{c}$ superconductivity at (near) ambient pressure.

Global strong solutions for non-isothermal compressible nematic liquid crystal flows under a scaling-invariant smallness condition

We study the three-dimensional Cauchy problem for a non-isothermal compressible nematic liquid crystal system with far-field vacuum. By deriving refined energy estimates and exploiting the coupled structure of the equations, we establish the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions, provided that the following scaling-invariant quantity is sufficiently small: $$ \big(1+\barρ+\tfrac{1}{\barρ}\big) \big[\|ρ_{0}\|_{L^{3}}+(\barρ^{2}+\barρ)\big(\|\sqrt{ρ_{0}}u_{0}\|_{L^{2}}^{2}+\|\nabla d_{0}\|_{L^{2}}^{2}\big)\big] \big[\|\nabla u_{0}\|_{L^{2}}^{2}+(\barρ+1)\|\sqrt{ρ_{0}}θ_{0}\|_{L^{2}}^{2} +\|\nabla^{2} d_{0}\|_{L^{2}}^{2}+\|\nabla d_{0}\|_{L^{4}}^{4}\big]. $$ In particular, our result identifies a new scaling-invariant quantity and does not impose additional restrictions on the viscosity coefficients, which improves previous work (Commun. Math. Sci. 21 (2023), 1455--1486).

Global well-posedness of the three-dimensional non-isentropic compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations under a scaling-invariant smallness condition

We consider the Cauchy problem of the non-isentropic compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with far-field vacuum. By deriving delicate energy estimates and exploiting the intrinsic structure of the system, we establish the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions provided that the scaling-invariant quantity \begin{align*} (1+\barρ+\tfrac{1}{\barρ}) [\|ρ_{0}\|_{L^{3}}+ ( \barρ^{2}+\barρ)( \| \sqrt{ρ_{0}}u_{0}\|_{L^{2}}^{2}+\| b_{0}\|_{L^{2}}^{2}) ] [\|\nabla u_{0}\|_{L^{2}}^{2}+(\barρ+1)\|\sqrt{ρ_{0}} θ_{0}\|_{L^{2}}^{2}+\| \nabla b_{0}\|_{L^{2}}^{2}+\| b_{0}\|_{L^{4}}^{4} ] \end{align*} is sufficiently small, where $\barρ$ denotes the essential supremum of the initial density. Our result may be regarded as an improved version compared with that of Liu and the second author (J. Differential Equations 336 (2022), pp. 456--478) in the sense that an artificial condition $3μ>λ$ on the viscosity coefficients is removed. In particular, we provide a new scaling-invariant quantity regarding the initial data.

Global weak solutions of 3D compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations subject to large external potential forces with discontinuous initial data and vacuum

We investigate the compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations subject to large external potential forces with discontinuous initial data in a three-dimensional bounded domain under Navier-slip boundary conditions. We show the global existence of weak solutions for such an initial-boundary value problem provided the initial energy is suitably small. In particular, the initial data may contain vacuum states and possibly exhibit large oscillations. To overcome difficulties brought by boundary and large external forces, some new estimates based on the effective viscous flux play crucial roles.

Global weak solutions and incompressible limit to the isentropic compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations in 2D bounded domains with ripped density and large initial data

In our previous work (arXiv:2510.00812), we have shown the global existence and incompressible limit of weak solutions to the isentropic compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations involving ripped density and large initial energy in the whole plane. In this paper we generalize such results to the case of two-dimensional bounded convex domains under Navier-slip boundary conditions. When comparing to the known results for global solutions of the initial-boundary value problem, we obtain uniform a priori estimates independent of the bulk viscosity coefficient.

Global weak solutions and incompressible limit of two-dimensional isentropic compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations with ripped density and large initial data

We establish the global existence of weak solutions of the isentropic compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations with ripped density in the whole plane provided the bulk viscosity coefficient is properly large. Moreover, we show that such solutions converge globally in time to a weak solution of the inhomogeneous incompressible magnetohydrodynamic equations when the bulk viscosity coefficient tends to infinity. In particular, the initial energy can be arbitrarily large and vacuum states are allowed in interior regions. Our analysis depends on the effective viscous flux and a Desjardins-type logarithmic interpolation inequality as well as structure of the system under consideration. To the best of our knowledge, this paper provides the first incompressible limit of the isentropic compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations for the large bulk viscosity.

Global weak solutions and incompressible limit to the isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations in the half-plane with ripped density and large initial data

We prove the global existence of weak solutions to the isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations with ripped density in the half-plane under a slip boundary condition provided the bulk viscosity coefficient is properly large. Moreover, we show that such solutions converge globally in time to a weak solution of the inhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations as the bulk viscosity coefficient tends to infinity. In particular, the large initial data and an initial patch of density as well as a vacuum are allowed. Our method relies on a Desjardins-type logarithmic interpolation inequality and some new techniques based on the effective viscous flux.

Global weak solutions and incompressible limit to the isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations in 2D bounded domains with ripped density and large initial data

This paper is a continuation of our previous work (arXiv:2507.03505), where the global existence and incompressible limit of weak solutions to the isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations in the half-plane with ripped density and large initial data were established. We extend such results to the case of two-dimensional bounded convex domains under a Navier-slip boundary condition. To overcome difficulties in the presence of a curved boundary, some new estimates based on the effective viscous flux and a Desjardins-type logarithmic interpolation inequality play decisive roles.

Global stability for the compressible isentropic magnetohydrodynamic equations in 3D bounded domains with Navier-slip boundary conditions

We study the global stability of large solutions to the compressible isentropic magnetohydrodynamic equations in a three-dimensional (3D) bounded domain with Navier-slip boundary conditions. It is shown that the solutions converge to an equilibrium state exponentially in the $L^2$-norm provided the density is essentially uniform-in-time bounded from above. Moreover, we also obtain that the density and magnetic field converge to their equilibrium states exponentially in the $L^\infty$-norm if additionally the initial density is bounded away from zero. These greatly improve the previous work in (J. Differential Equations 288 (2021), 1-39), where the authors considered the torus case and required the $L^6$-norm of the magnetic field to be uniformly bounded as well as zero initial total momentum and an additional restriction $2μ>λ$ for the viscous coefficients. This paper provides the first global stability result for large strong solutions of compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations in 3D general bounded domains.

Global stability for compressible isentropic Navier-Stokes equations in 3D bounded domains with Navier-slip boundary conditions

We investigate the global stability of large solutions to the compressible isentropic Navier-Stokes equations in a three-dimensional (3D) bounded domain with Navier-slip boundary conditions. It is shown that the strong solutions converge to an equilibrium state exponentially in the $L^2$-norm provided the density is essentially uniform-in-time bounded from above. Moreover, we obtain that the density converges to its equilibrium state exponentially in the $L^\infty$-norm if additionally the initial density is bounded away from zero. Furthermore, we derive that the vacuum states will not vanish for any time provided vacuum appears (even at a point) initially. This is the first result concerning the global stability for large strong solutions of compressible Navier-Stokes equations with vacuum in 3D general bounded domains.

Combining Textual and Spectral Features for Robust Classification of Pilot Communications

Accurate estimation of aircraft operations, such as takeoffs and landings, is critical for effective airport management, yet remains challenging, especially at non-towered facilities lacking dedicated surveillance infrastructure. This paper presents a novel dual pipeline machine learning framework that classifies pilot radio communications using both textual and spectral features. Audio data collected from a non-towered U.S. airport was annotated by certified pilots with operational intent labels and preprocessed through automatic speech recognition and Mel-spectrogram extraction. We evaluate a wide range of traditional classifiers and deep learning models, including ensemble methods, LSTM, and CNN across both pipelines. To our knowledge, this is the first system to classify operational aircraft intent using a dual-pipeline ML framework on real-world air traffic audio. Our results demonstrate that spectral features combined with deep architectures consistently yield superior classification performance, with F1-scores exceeding 91%. Data augmentation further improves robustness to real-world audio variability. The proposed approach is scalable, cost-effective, and deployable without additional infrastructure, offering a practical solution for air traffic monitoring at general aviation airports.

Watermarking Language Models through Language Models

Watermarking the outputs of large language models (LLMs) is critical for provenance tracing, content regulation, and model accountability. Existing approaches often rely on access to model internals or are constrained by static rules and token-level perturbations. Moreover, the idea of steering generative behavior via prompt-based instruction control remains largely underexplored. We introduce a prompt-guided watermarking framework that operates entirely at the input level and requires no access to model parameters or decoding logits. The framework comprises three cooperating components: a Prompting LM that synthesizes watermarking instructions from user prompts, a Marking LM that generates watermarked outputs conditioned on these instructions, and a Detecting LM trained to classify whether a response carries an embedded watermark. This modular design enables dynamic watermarking that adapts to individual prompts while remaining compatible with diverse LLM architectures, including both proprietary and open-weight models. We evaluate the framework over 25 combinations of Prompting and Marking LMs, such as GPT-4o, Mistral, LLaMA3, and DeepSeek. Experimental results show that watermark signals generalize across architectures and remain robust under fine-tuning, model distillation, and prompt-based adversarial attacks, demonstrating the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach.

Interpretable Dual-Stream Learning for Local Wind Hazard Prediction in Vulnerable Communities

Wind hazards such as tornadoes and straight-line winds frequently affect vulnerable communities in the Great Plains of the United States, where limited infrastructure and sparse data coverage hinder effective emergency response. Existing forecasting systems focus primarily on meteorological elements and often fail to capture community-specific vulnerabilities, limiting their utility for localized risk assessment and resilience planning. To address this gap, we propose an interpretable dual-stream learning framework that integrates structured numerical weather data with unstructured textual event narratives. Our architecture combines a Random Forest and RoBERTa-based transformer through a late fusion mechanism, enabling robust and context-aware wind hazard prediction. The system is tailored for underserved tribal communities and supports block-level risk assessment. Experimental results show significant performance gains over traditional baselines. Furthermore, gradient-based sensitivity and ablation studies provide insight into the model's decision-making process, enhancing transparency and operational trust. The findings demonstrate both predictive effectiveness and practical value in supporting emergency preparedness and advancing community resilience.

Text-Guided Image Invariant Feature Learning for Robust Image Watermarking

Ensuring robustness in image watermarking is crucial for and maintaining content integrity under diverse transformations. Recent self-supervised learning (SSL) approaches, such as DINO, have been leveraged for watermarking but primarily focus on general feature representation rather than explicitly learning invariant features. In this work, we propose a novel text-guided invariant feature learning framework for robust image watermarking. Our approach leverages CLIP's multimodal capabilities, using text embeddings as stable semantic anchors to enforce feature invariance under distortions. We evaluate the proposed method across multiple datasets, demonstrating superior robustness against various image transformations. Compared to state-of-the-art SSL methods, our model achieves higher cosine similarity in feature consistency tests and outperforms existing watermarking schemes in extraction accuracy under severe distortions. These results highlight the efficacy of our method in learning invariant representations tailored for robust deep learning-based watermarking.

A Neural Network Architecture Based on Attention Gate Mechanism for 3D Magnetotelluric Forward Modeling

Traditional three-dimensional magnetotelluric (MT) numerical forward modeling methods, such as the finite element method (FEM) and finite volume method (FVM), suffer from high computational costs and low efficiency due to limitations in mesh refinement and computational resources. We propose a novel neural network architecture named MTAGU-Net, which integrates an attention gating mechanism for 3D MT forward modeling. Specifically, a dual-path attention gating module is designed based on forward response data images and embedded in the skip connections between the encoder and decoder. This module enables the fusion of critical anomaly information from shallow feature maps during the decoding of deep feature maps, significantly enhancing the network's capability to extract features from anomalous regions. Furthermore, we introduce a synthetic model generation method utilizing 3D Gaussian random field (GRF), which accurately replicates the electrical structures of real-world geological scenarios with high fidelity. Numerical experiments demonstrate that MTAGU-Net outperforms conventional 3D U-Net in terms of convergence stability and prediction accuracy, with the structural similarity index (SSIM) of the forward response data consistently exceeding 0.98. Moreover, the network can accurately predict forward response data on previously unseen datasets models, demonstrating its strong generalization ability and validating the feasibility and effectiveness of this method in practical applications.

Ultra-slender Coaxial Antagonistic Tubular Robot for Ambidextrous Manipulation

As soft continuum manipulators characterize terrific compliance and maneuverability in narrow unstructured space, low stiffness and limited dexterity are two obvious shortcomings in practical applications. To address the issues, a novel asymmetric coaxial antagonistic tubular robot (CATR) arm with high stiffness has been proposed, where two asymmetrically patterned metal tubes were fixed at the tip end with a shift angle of 180° and axial actuation force at the other end deforms the tube. Delicately designed and optimized steerable section and fully compliant section enable the soft manipulator high dexterity and stiffness. The basic kinetostatics model of a single segment was established on the basis of geometric and statics, and constrained optimization algorithm promotes finding the actuation inputs for a given desired task configuration. In addition, we have specifically built the design theory for the slits patterned on the tube surface, taking both bending angle and stiffness into account. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed robot arm is dexterous and has greater stiffness compared with same-size continuum robots. Furthermore, experiments also showcase the potential in minimally invasive surgery.
