Searching for Gamma-Ray Emission from Reticulum II by Fermi-LAT

Recently, many new dwarf spheroidal satellites (dSphs) have been discovered by the Dark Energy Survey (DES). These dSphs are ideal candidates for probing for gamma-ray emissions from dark matter (DM) annihilation. However, no significant signature has been found by the Fermi-LAT dSph observations. In this work, we reanalyze the Fermi-LAT Pass 8 data from the direction of Reticulum II, where a slight excess has been reported by some previous studies. We treat Reticulum II (DES J0335.6-5403) as a spatially extended source, and and that no significant gamma-ray signature is observed. Based on this result, we set upper-limits on the DM annihilation cross section.

Gamma rays and neutrinos from dark matter annihilation in galaxy clusters

The $γ$-ray and neutrino emissions from dark matter (DM) annihilation in galaxy clusters are studied. After about one year operation of Fermi-LAT, several nearby clusters are reported with stringent upper limits of GeV $γ$-ray emission. We use the Fermi-LAT upper limits of these clusters to constrain the DM model parameters. We find that the DM model distributed with substructures predicted in cold DM (CDM) scenario is strongly constrained by Fermi-LAT $γ$-ray data. Especially for the leptonic annihilation scenario which may account for the $e^{\pm}$ excesses discovered by PAMELA/Fermi-LAT/HESS, the constraint on the minimum mass of substructures is of the level $10^2-10^3$ M$_{\odot}$, which is much larger than that expected in CDM picture, but is consistent with a warm DM scenario. We further investigate the sensitivity of neutrino detections of the clusters by IceCube. It is found that neutrino detection is much more difficult than $γ$-rays. Only for very heavy DM ($\sim 10$ TeV) together with a considerable branching ratio to line neutrinos the neutrino sensitivity is comparable with that of $γ$-rays.

Null Energy Condition and Dark Energy Models

Null Energy Condition (NEC) requires the equation of state (EoS) of the universe $w_u$ satisfy $w_u\geq-1$, which implies, for instance in a universe with matter and dark energy dominating $w_u=w_mΩ_m+w_{de}Ω_{de}=w_{de}Ω_{de}\geq-1$. In this paper we study constraints on the dark energy models from the requirement of the NEC. We will show that with $Ω_{de}\sim0.7$, $w_{de}<-1$ at present epoch is possible. However, NEC excludes the possibility of $w_{de}<-1$ forever as happened in the Phantom model, but if $w_{de}<-1$ stays for a short period of time as predicted in the Quintom theory NEC can be satisfied. We take three examples of Quintom models of dark energy, namely the phenomenological EoS, the two-scalar-field model and the single scalar model with a modified Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) lagrangian to show how this happens.

Lepton Dipole Moments and Rare Decays in the CP-violating MSSM with Nonuniversal Soft-Supersymmetry Breaking

We investigate the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment (MDM), the muon electric dipole moment (EDM) and the lepton-flavour-violating decays of the $τ-$lepton, $τ\to μγ$ and $τ\to 3μ$, in the CP-violating Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with nonuniversal soft-supersymmetry breaking. We evaluate numerically the muon EDM and the branching ratios $B(τ\to μγ)$ and $B(τ\to 3μ)$, after taking into account the experimental constraints from the electron EDM and muon MDM. Upon imposition of the experimental limits on our theoretical predictions for the aforementioned branching ratios and the muon MDM, we obtain an upper bound of about $10^{-23} e\cdot cm$ on the muon EDM which lies well within the explorable reach of the proposed experiment at BNL.

Search for Ambient Neutralino Dark Matter at Accelerator

We investigate the possibility of using accelarator beam particles to collide with the ambient neutralino dark matter particles in cosmic rays as a way to search for the cold dark matter. We study in detail its inelastic and elastic scattering with the projectile particles at electron-positron colliders and discuss the possible experimental signals and the relevent background.
