Torsion Cosmology of Poincaré gauge theory and the constraints of its parameters via SNeIa data

Poincarè gauge theory (PGT) is an alternative gravity theory, which attempts to bring the gravity into the gauge-theoretic frame, where the Lagrangian is quadratic in torsion and curvature. Recently, the cosmological models with torsion based on this theory have drawn many attentions, which try to explain the cosmic acceleration in a new way. Among these PGT cosmological models, the one with only even parity dynamical modes -- SNY model, for its realistic meaning, is very attractive. In this paper, we first analyze the past-time cosmic evolution of SNY model analytically. And based on these results we fit this model to the most comprehensive SNeIa data (Union 2) and thus find the best-fit values of model parameters and initial conditions, whose related $χ^{2}$ value is consistent with the one from $Λ$CMD at the 1$σ$ level. Also by the $χ^{2}$ estimate, we provide certain constraints on these parameters. Using these best-fit values for the Union 2 SNeIa dataset, we are able to predict the evolution of our real universe over the late time. From this prediction, we know the fate of our universe that it would expand forever, slowly asymptotically to a halt, which is in accordance with the earlier works.

de Sitter Gauge Theory of Gravity: An Alternative Torsion Cosmology

A new cosmological model based on the de Sitter gauge theory (dSGT) is studied in this paper. By some transformations, we find, in the dust universe, the cosmological equations of dSGT could form an autonomous system. We conduct dynamics analysis to this system, and find 9 critical points, among which there exist one positive attractor and one negative attractor. The positive attractor shows us that our universe will enter a exponential expansion phase in the end, which is similar to the conclusion of $Λ$CDM. We also carry out some numerical calculations, which confirms the conclusion of dynamics analysis. Finally, we fit the model parameter and initial values to the Union 2 SNIa dataset, present the confidence contour of parameters and obtain the best-fit values of parameters of dSGT.

Can be OPERA neutrino as tachyonic chameleon?

Whether there is a superluminal object existing in the real world is a mystery in modern physics. Recently, OPERA collaboration claims that they have observed superluminal neutrinos in their experiments. This leads to a rest mass paradox by combining the observational results from SN1987A, if one considers the neutrino as a tachyon. In this paper, we identify the neutrino as a tachyonic chameleon, whose mass depends not only on coordinate frame but also on the environment, in which the neutrino propagates without the need of violation of the Lorentz-invariance at a fundamental level. We have compared our results with these observations and made some predictions that can be tested in the near future. Also, we have clarified the concept of rest mass for subluminal and superluminal object.

De Sitter ground state of scalar-tensor gravity and its primordial perturbation

Scalar-tensor gravity is one of the most competitive gravity theory to Einstein's relativity. We reconstruct the exact de Sitter solution in scalar-tensor gravity, in which the non-minimal coupling scalar is rolling along the potential. This solution may have some relation to the early inflation and present acceleration of the universe. We investigated its primordial quantum perturbation around the adiabatic vacuum. We put forward for the first time that exact de Sitter generates non-exactly scale invariant perturbations. In the conformal coupling case, this model predicts that the tensor mode of the perturbation (gravity wave) is strongly depressed.

New mechanism to cross the phantom divide

Recently, type Ia supernovae data appear to support a dark energy whose equation of state $w$ crosses -1, which is a much more amazing problem than the acceleration of the universe. We show that it is possible for the equation of state to cross the phantom divide by a scalar field in the gravity with an additional inverse power-law term of Ricci scalar in the Lagrangian. The necessary and sufficient condition for a universe in which the dark energy can cross the phantom divide is obtained. Some analytical solutions with $w<-1$ or $w>-1$ are obtained. A minimal coupled scalar with different potentials, including quadratic, cubic, quantic, exponential and logarithmic potentials are investigated via numerical methods, respectively. All these potentials lead to the crossing behavior. We show that it is a robust result which is hardly dependent on the concrete form of the potential of the scalar.

Thermodynamic Origin of the Cardassian Universe

In the Cadassian universe, one can explain the acceleration of the universe without introducing dark energy component. However, the dynamical equations of this model can not be directly obtained from the action principle. Recently, works on the relation between thermodynamics and gravity indicates that gravity force may not be the fundamental force. In this paper, we study the thermodynamics of the Cardassian universe, and regard it as the origin of this cosmological model. We find that the corresponding entropy obeys ordinary area law when the area of the trapping horizon is small, while it becomes a constant when area is going to be large in the original and modified polytropic Cardassian model, and it has a maximum value in the exponential one. It seems that the Cardassian universe only contains finite information according to the holographic principle, which states that all the information in the bulk should be encoded in the boundary of the bulk.

Semi-Holographic Universe

By assuming that a dark component (dark energy) in the universe strictly obeys the holographic principle, that is, its entropy is one fourth of the apparent horizon, we find that the existence of the other dark component (dark matter) is compulsory, as a compensation of dark energy, based on the first law of thermodynamics. By using the method of dynamical system analysis, we find that there exists a stable dark energy-dark matter scaling solution at late time, which is helpful to solve the coincidence problem. For reasonable parameters, the deceleration parameter is well consistent with current observations.

Non-Gaussianity with Lagrange Multiplier Field in the Curvaton Scenario

In this paper, we will use $δ\mathcal{N}$-formalism to calculate the primordial curvature perturbation for the curvaton model with a Lagrange multiplier field. We calculate the non-linearity parameters $f_{NL}$ and $g_{NL}$ in the sudden-decay approximation in this kind of model, and we find that one could get a large non-Gaussinity even if the curvaton dominates the total energy density before it decays, and this property will make the curvaton model much richer. We also calculate the probability density function of the primordial curvature perturbation in the sudden-decay approximation, as well as some moments of it.

Preventing eternality in phantom inflation

We have investigated the necessary conditions that prevent phantom inflation from being eternal. Allowing additionally for a nonminimal coupling between the phantom field and gravity, we present the slow-climb requirements, perform an analysis of the fluctuations, and finally we extract the overall conditions that are necessary in order to prevent eternality. Furthermore, we verify our results by solving explicitly the cosmological equations in a simple example of an exponential potential, formulating the classical motion plus the stochastic effect of the fluctuations through Langevin equations. Our analysis shows that phantom inflation can be finite without the need of additional exotic mechanisms.

Quantum Spring from the Casimir Effect

The Casimir effect arises not only in the presence of material boundaries but also in space with nontrivial topology. In this paper, we choose a topology of the flat $(D+1)$-dimensional spacetime, which causes the helix boundary condition for a Hermitian massless scalar field. Especially, Casimir effect for a massless scalar field on the helix boundary condition is investigated in two and three dimensions by using the zeta function techniques. The Casimir force parallel to the axis of the helix behaves very much like the force on a spring that obeys the Hooke's law when the ratio $r$ of the pitch to the circumference of the helix is small, but in this case, the force comes from a quantum effect, so we would like to call it \textit{quantum spring}. When $r$ is large, this force behaves like the Newton's law of universal gravitation in the leading order. On the other hand, the force perpendicular to the axis decreases monotonously with the increasing of the ratio $r$. Both forces are attractive and their behaviors are the same in two and three dimensions.

De Sitter ground state of scalar-tensor gravity and its fluctuation with dust

An exact de Sitter solution of scalar-tensor gravity is found, in which the non-minimal coupling scalar is rolling along a non-constant potential. Based on this solution, a dust-filled FRW universe is explored in frame of scalar-tensor gravity. The effective dark energy induced by the sole non-minimal scalar can be quintessence-like, phantom-like, and more significantly, can cross the phantom divide. The rich and varied properties of scalar-tensor gravity even with only one scalar is shown in this article.

Brane tachyon dynamics

The dynamics of a tachyon attached to a Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati (DGP) brane is investigated. Exponential potential and inverse power law potential are explored, respectively. The quasi-attractor behavior, for which the universe will eventually go into a phase similar to the slow-roll inflation, is discovered in both cases of exponential potential and inverse power law potential. The equation of state (EOS) of the virtual dark energy for a single scalar can cross the phantom divide in the branch $θ=-1$ for both potentials, while the EOS of the virtual dark energy for a single scalar can not cross this divide in the branch $θ=1$.

Cardassian Universe Constrained by Latest Observations

Several Cardassian universe models including the original, modified polytropic and exponential Cardassian models are constrained by the latest Constitution Type Ia supernova data, the position of the first acoustic peak of CMB from the five years WMAP data and the size of baryonic acoustic oscillation peak from the SDSS data. Both the spatial flat and curved universe are studied, and we also take account of the possible bulk viscosity of the matter fluid in the flat universe case.

Is Non-minimal Inflation Eternal?

The possibility that the non-minimal coupling inflation could be eternal is investigated. We calculate the quantum fluctuation of the inflaton in a Hubble time and find that it has the same value as in the minimal case in the slow-roll limit. Armed with this result, we have studied some concrete non-minimal inflationary models including the chaotic inflation and the natural inflation while the inflaton is non-minimally coupled to the gravity and we find that these non-minimal inflations could be eternal in some parameter regions.

Chaplygin gas and the cosmological evolution of alpha

The class of Chaplygin gas models regarded as a candidate of dark energy can be realized by a scalar field, which could drive the variation of the fine structure constant $α$ during the cosmic time. This phenomenon has been observed for almost ten years ago from the quasar absorption spectra and attracted many attentions. In this paper, we reconstruct the class of Chaplygin gas models to a kind of scalar fields and confront the resulting $Δα/α$ with the observational constraints. We found that if the present observational value of the equation of state of the dark energy was not exactly equal to -1, various parameters of the class of Chaplygin gas models are allowed to satisfy the observational constraints, as well as the equivalence principle is also respected.

Viscous Ricci Dark Energy

We investigate the viscous Ricci dark energy (RDE) model by assuming that there is bulk viscosity in the linear barotropic fluid and the RDE. In the RDE model without bulk viscosity, the universe is younger than some old objects at some redshifts. Since the age of the universe should be longer than any objects in the universe, the RDE model suffers the age problem, especially when we consider the object APM 08279+5255 at $z=3.91$, whose age is $t = 2.1$ Gyr. In this letter, we find that once the viscosity is taken into account, this age problem is alleviated.

Ricci Dark Energy in braneworld models with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk

We investigate the Ricci Dark Energy (RDE) in the braneworld models with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the Bulk. We solve the generalized Friedmann equation on the brane analytically and find that the universe will finally enter into a pure de Sitter spacetime in stead of the big rip that appears in the usual 4D Ricci dark energy model with parameter $α<1/2$. We also consider the Hubble horizon as the IR cutoff in holographic dark energy model and find it can not accelerate the universe as in the usual case without interacting.
