Reconfigurable ultrafast perovskite polariton logic gates via nonlinear dynamics

Exciton-polaritons provide a great platform for developing ultrafast all-optical logic gates for quantum and optical chips. However, progress toward practical polariton logic remains limited due to incomplete logical functionality on a single device. Herein, we present a single-device perovskite polariton platform enabling reconfigurable, ultrafast logic gates with functional completeness. The device consists of an optically trapped perovskite microwire, generating well-controlled non-equilibrium polariton condensation states for multiple logic operation channels. By tailoring the power of signal and gate beams, the same device is programmed to execute three basic Boolean functions (AND,OR,and NOT) and a high-order XOR function with a high on/off ratio of 21 dB, and a fast response time 6.7 ps. The reconfigurability arises from the selective activation of different nonlinear responses of polariton condensates, including amplification, seeding state transitions, and nonlinear interaction. These results provide valuable insights for advancing exciton-polariton logic gates.

Strongly Magnetically Tuned Coupling Strength and Nonlinearity in CrSBr Exciton-Polaritons

Two-dimensional van der Waals (vdW) magnetic semiconductors CrSBr offer an ideal platform to achieve exciton-polaritons correlated with magnetic orders for developing solid-state quantum, spintronic, and photonic devices. However, for the exciton-polaritons formed by lower-energy excitons (XL = 1.37 eV), the coupling strength and nonlinear optical response are almost inert to the external magnetic field. Here, we demonstrate robust strong coupling between higher-energy excitons (XH = 1.8 eV) and photons that persists up to room temperature, along with giant magnetic-field tunability. The Rabi splitting energy is tuned up to 100 meV within a moderate 0.45 T in-plane magnetic field due to changes in excitonic states during the spin transitions. Besides, we observe significantly enhanced polariton nonlinearity in the intermediate magnetic phase, which exhibits a distinct mode-number dependence and originates from magnon-assisted long-range attractive interactions and coupling strength reduction. These results advance the development of on-demand polariton platforms for spin-correlated quantum optoelectronics.

Room-temperature continuous-wave pumped exciton polariton condensation in a perovskite microcavity

Microcavity exciton polaritons (polaritons) as part-light part-matter quasiparticles, garner significant attention for non-equilibrium Bose-Einstein condensation at elevated temperatures. Recently, halide perovskites have emerged as promising room-temperature polaritonic platforms thanks to their large exciton binding energies and superior optical properties. However, currently, inducing room-temperature non-equilibrium polariton condensation in perovskite microcavities requires optical pulsed excitations with high excitation densities. Herein, we demonstrate continuous-wave optically pumped polariton condensation with an exceptionally low threshold of ~0.6 W cm-2 and a narrow linewidth of ~1 meV. Polariton condensation is unambiguously demonstrated by characterizing the nonlinear behavior and coherence properties. We also identify a microscopic mechanism involving the potential landscape in the perovskite microcavity, where numerous discretized energy levels arising from the hybridization of adjacent potential minima enhance the polariton relaxation, facilitating polariton condensate formation. Our findings lay the foundation for the next-generation energy-efficient polaritonic devices operating at room temperature.

Topological Single Photon Emission from Quantum Emitter Chains

We develop a scheme of generating highly indistinguishable single photons from an active quantum Su-Schrieffer-Heeger chain made from a collection of noisy quantum emitters. Surprisingly, the single photon emission spectrum of the active quantum chain is extremely narrow compared to that of a single emitter or topologically trivial chain. Moreover, this effect becomes dramatically strong close to the non-trivial-to-trivial phase transition point. Using this effect, we show that the single photon linewidth of a long topological quantum chain can become arbitrarily narrow, constituting an ideal source of indistinguishable single photons. Finally, taking specific examples of actual quantum emitters, we provide a microscopic and quantitative analysis of our model and analyze the most important parameters in view of the experimental realization.
