Nonperturbative Nonlinear Transport in a Floquet-Weyl Semimetal

Periodic laser driving, known as Floquet engineering, is a powerful tool to manipulate the properties of quantum materials. Using circularly polarized light, artificial magnetic fields, called Berry curvature, can be created in the photon-dressed Floquet-Bloch states that form. This mechanism, when applied to 3D Dirac and Weyl systems, is predicted to lead to photon-dressed movement of Weyl nodes which should be detectable in the transport sector. The transport response of such a topological light-matter hybrid, however, remains experimentally unknown. Here, we report on the transport properties of the type-II Weyl semimetal T$\mathrm{_d}$-MoTe$_\mathrm{2}$ illuminated by a femtosecond pulse of circularly polarized light. Using an ultrafast optoelectronic device architecture, we observed injection currents and a helicity-dependent anomalous Hall effect whose scaling with laser field strongly deviate from the perturbative laws of nonlinear optics. We show using Floquet theory that this discovery corresponds to the formation of a magnetic Floquet-Weyl semimetal state. Numerical ab initio simulations support this interpretation, indicating that the light-induced motion of the Weyl nodes contributes substantially to the measured transport signals. This work demonstrates the ability to generate large effective magnetic fields ($>$ 30T) with light, which can be used to manipulate the magnetic and topological properties of a range of quantum materials.

Force-free wave interaction in magnetar magnetospheres: Computational modeling in axisymmetry

Crustal quakes of highly magnetized neutron stars can disrupt their magnetospheres, triggering energetic phenomena like X-ray and fast radio bursts (FRBs). Understanding plasma wave dynamics in these extreme environments is vital for predicting energy transport across scales to the radiation length. This study models relativistic plasma wave interaction in magnetar magnetospheres with force-free electrodynamics simulations. For propagation along curved magnetic field lines, we observe the continuous conversion of Alfvén waves to fast magnetosonic (FMS) waves. The conversion efficiency can be up to three times higher when counter-propagating Alfvén waves interact in the equatorial region. Alfvén waves generate FMS waves of twice their frequency during their first crossing of the magnetosphere. After the initial transient burst of FMS waves, Alfvén waves convert to FMS waves periodically, generating variations on timescales of the magnetospheric Alfvén wave crossing time. This decaying FMS wave tail carries a significant portion (half) of the total energy emitted. Plastic damping of 'bouncing' Alfvén waves by the magnetar crust has minimal impact on the FMS efficiency. We discuss the implications of the identified wave phenomena for magnetar observations. Outgoing FMS waves can develop electric zones, potential sources of coherent radiation. Long-wavelength FMS waves could generate FRBs through reconnection beyond the light cylinder.

Text-Guided Video Masked Autoencoder

Recent video masked autoencoder (MAE) works have designed improved masking algorithms focused on saliency. These works leverage visual cues such as motion to mask the most salient regions. However, the robustness of such visual cues depends on how often input videos match underlying assumptions. On the other hand, natural language description is an information dense representation of video that implicitly captures saliency without requiring modality-specific assumptions, and has not been explored yet for video MAE. To this end, we introduce a novel text-guided masking algorithm (TGM) that masks the video regions with highest correspondence to paired captions. Without leveraging any explicit visual cues for saliency, our TGM is competitive with state-of-the-art masking algorithms such as motion-guided masking. To further benefit from the semantics of natural language for masked reconstruction, we next introduce a unified framework for joint MAE and masked video-text contrastive learning. We show that across existing masking algorithms, unifying MAE and masked video-text contrastive learning improves downstream performance compared to pure MAE on a variety of video recognition tasks, especially for linear probe. Within this unified framework, our TGM achieves the best relative performance on five action recognition and one egocentric datasets, highlighting the complementary nature of natural language for masked video modeling.

The existence of solutions for a Schrodinger equation with jumping nonlinearities crossing the essential spectrum

In this paper, we establish the existence of one solution for a Schrödinger equation with jumping nonlinearities: $-Δu+V(x)u=f(x,u)$, $x\in \mathbb {R}^N$, and $u(x)\to 0$, $|x|\to +\infty$, where $V$ is a potential function on which we make hypotheses, and in particular allow $V$ which is unbounded below, and $f(x,u)=au^-+bu^++g(x,u)$. No restriction on $b$ is required, which implies that $f(x,s)s^{-1}$ may interfere with the essential spectrum of $ -Δ+V$ for $s\to +\infty$. Using the truncation method and the Morse theory, we can compute critical groups of the corresponding functional at zero and infinity, then prove the existence of one negative solution.

A Deep Learning-Driven Pipeline for Differentiating Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy from Cardiac Amyloidosis Using 2D Multi-View Echocardiography

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and cardiac amyloidosis (CA) are both heart conditions that can progress to heart failure if untreated. They exhibit similar echocardiographic characteristics, often leading to diagnostic challenges. This paper introduces a novel multi-view deep learning approach that utilizes 2D echocardiography for differentiating between HCM and CA. The method begins by classifying 2D echocardiography data into five distinct echocardiographic views: apical 4-chamber, parasternal long axis of left ventricle, parasternal short axis at levels of the mitral valve, papillary muscle, and apex. It then extracts features of each view separately and combines five features for disease classification. A total of 212 patients diagnosed with HCM, and 30 patients diagnosed with CA, along with 200 individuals with normal cardiac function(Normal), were enrolled in this study from 2018 to 2022. This approach achieved a precision, recall of 0.905, and micro-F1 score of 0.904, demonstrating its effectiveness in accurately identifying HCM and CA using a multi-view analysis.

Production of dileptons in ultra-peripheral heavy ion collisions with two-photon processes

We study the photoproduction process of dileptons in heavy ion collision at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energys. The equivalent photon approximation, which equates the electromagnetic field of high-energy charged particles to the virtual photon flux, is used to calculate the processes of dileptons production. The numerical results demonstrate that the experimental study of dileptons in ultra-peripheral collisions is feasible at RHIC and LHC energies.

Black Hole-Disk Interactions in Magnetically Arrested Active Galactic Nuclei: General Relativistic Magnetohydrodynamic Simulations Using A Time-Dependent, Binary Metric

Perturber objects interacting with supermassive black hole accretion disks are often invoked to explain observed quasi-periodic behavior in active galactic nuclei (AGN). We present global, 3D general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (GRMHD) simulations of black holes on inclined orbits colliding with magnetically arrested thick AGN disks using a binary black hole spacetime with mass ratio $0.1$. We do this by implementing an approximate time-dependent binary black hole metric into the GRMHD code Athena++. The secondary enhances the unbound mass outflow rate 2-4 times above that provided by the disk in quasi-periodic outbursts, eventually merging into a more continuous outflow at larger distances. We present a simple analytic model that qualitatively agrees well with this result and can be used to extrapolate to unexplored regions of parameter space. We show self-consistently for the first time that spin-orbit coupling between the primary black hole spin and the binary orbital angular momentum causes the accretion disk and jet directions to precess significantly (by 60$^\circ$-80$^\circ$) on long time-scales (e.g., $\sim$ 20 times the binary orbital period). Because this effect may be the only way for thick AGN disks to consistently precess, it could provide strong evidence of a secondary black hole companion if observed in such a system. Besides this new phenomenology, the time-average properties of the disk and accretion rates onto the primary are only marginally altered by the presence of the secondary, consistent with our estimate for a perturbed thick disk. This situation might drastically change in cooled thin disks.

Cavity electrodynamics of van der Waals heterostructures

Van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures host many-body quantum phenomena that can be tuned in situ using electrostatic gates. These gates are often microstructured graphite flakes that naturally form plasmonic cavities, confining light in discrete standing waves of current density due to their finite size. Their resonances typically lie in the GHz - THz range, corresponding to the same $μ$eV - meV energy scale characteristic of many quantum effects in the materials they electrically control. This raises the possibility that built-in cavity modes could be relevant for shaping the low-energy physics of vdW heterostructures. However, capturing this light-matter interaction remains elusive as devices are significantly smaller than the diffraction limit at these wavelengths, hindering far-field spectroscopic tools. Here, we report on the sub-wavelength cavity electrodynamics of graphene embedded in a vdW heterostructure plasmonic microcavity. Using on-chip THz spectroscopy, we observed spectral weight transfer and an avoided crossing between the graphite cavity and graphene plasmon modes as the graphene carrier density was tuned, revealing their ultrastrong coupling. Our findings show that intrinsic cavity modes of metallic gates can sense and manipulate the low-energy electrodynamics of vdW heterostructures. This opens a pathway for deeper understanding of emergent phases in these materials and new functionality through cavity control.

Exotic magnetism in perovskite KOsO3

A new perovskite KOsO3 has been stabilized under high-pressure and high temperature conditions. It is cubic at 500 K (Pm-3m) and undergoes subsequent phase transitions to tetragonal at 320 K (P4/mmm) and rhombohedral (R-3m) at 230 K as shown from refining synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction (SXRD) data. The larger orbital overlap integral and the extended wavefunction of 5d electrons in the perovskite KOsO3 allow to explore physics from the regime where Mott and Hund's rule couplings dominate to the state where the multiple interactions are on equal footing. We demonstrate an exotic magnetic ordering phase found by neutron powder diffraction along with physical properties via a suite of measurements including magnetic and transport properties, differential scanning calorimetry, and specific heat, which provide comprehensive information for a system at the crossover from localized to itinerant electronic behavior.

Dynamic Information Dissemination Model Incorporating Non-Adjacent Node Interaction

Describing the dynamics of information dissemination within social networks poses a formidable challenge. Despite multiple endeavors aimed at addressing this issue, only a limited number of studies have effectively replicated and forecasted the evolving course of information dissemination. In this paper, we propose a novel model, DM-NAI, which not only considers the information transfer between adjacent users but also takes into account the information transfer between non-adjacent users to comprehensively depict the information dissemination process. Extensive experiments are conducted on six datasets to predict the information dissemination range and the dissemination trend of the social network. The experimental results demonstrate an average prediction accuracy range of 94.62% to 96.71%, respectively, significantly outperforming state-of-the-art solutions. This finding illustrates that considering information transmission between non-adjacent users helps DM-NAI achieve more accurate information dissemination predictions.

RA-ICM: A Novel Independent Cascade Model Incorporating User Relationships and Attitudes

The rapid development of social networks has a wide range of social effects, which facilitates the study of social issues. Accurately forecasting the information propagation process within social networks is crucial for promptly understanding the event direction and effectively addressing social problems in a scientific manner. The relationships between non-adjacent users and the attitudes of users significantly influence the information propagation process within social networks. However, existing research has ignored these two elements, which poses challenges for accurately predicting the information propagation process. This limitation significantly hinders the study of emotional contagion and influence maximization in social networks. To address these issues, by considering the relationships between non-adjacent users and the influence of user attitudes, we propose a new information propagation model based on the independent cascade model. Experimental results obtained from six real Weibo datasets validate the effectiveness of the proposed model, which is reflected in increased prediction accuracy and reduced time complexity. Furthermore, the information dissemination trend in social networks predicted by the proposed model closely resembles the actual information propagation process, which demonstrates the superiority of the proposed model.

A Model for Assessing Network Asset Vulnerability Using QPSO-LightGBM

With the continuous development of computer technology and network technology, the scale of the network continues to expand, the network space tends to be complex, and the application of computers and networks has been deeply into politics, the military, finance, electricity, and other important fields. When security events do not occur, the vulnerability assessment of these high-risk network assets can be actively carried out to prepare for rainy days, to effectively reduce the loss caused by security events. Therefore, this paper proposes a multi-classification prediction model of network asset vulnerability based on quantum particle swarm algorithm-Lightweight Gradient Elevator (QPSO-LightGBM). In this model, based on using the Synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE) to balance the data, quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO) was used for automatic parameter optimization, and LightGBM was used for modeling. Realize multi-classification prediction of network asset vulnerability. To verify the rationality of the model, the proposed model is compared with the model constructed by other algorithms. The results show that the proposed model is better in various predictive performance indexes.

Information Dissemination Model Based on User Attitude and Public Opinion Environment

Modeling the information dissemination process in social networks is a challenging problem. Despite numerous attempts to address this issue, existing studies often assume that user attitudes have only one opportunity to alter during the information dissemination process. Additionally, these studies tend to consider the transformation of user attitudes as solely influenced by a single user, overlooking the dynamic and evolving nature of user attitudes and the impact of the public opinion environment. In this paper, we propose a novel model, UAPE, which considers the influence of the aforementioned factors on the information dissemination process. Specifically, UAPE regards the user's attitude towards the topic as dynamically changing, with the change jointly affected by multiple users simultaneously. Furthermore, the joint influence of multiple users can be considered as the impact of the public opinion environment. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the model achieves an accuracy range of 91.62% to 94.01%, surpassing the performance of existing research.

Functional sufficient dimension reduction through information maximization with application to classification

Considering the case where the response variable is a categorical variable and the predictor is a random function, two novel functional sufficient dimensional reduction (FSDR) methods are proposed based on mutual information and square loss mutual information. Compared to the classical FSDR methods, such as functional sliced inverse regression and functional sliced average variance estimation, the proposed methods are appealing because they are capable of estimating multiple effective dimension reduction directions in the case of a relatively small number of categories, especially for the binary response. Moreover, the proposed methods do not require the restrictive linear conditional mean assumption and the constant covariance assumption. They avoid the inverse problem of the covariance operator which is often encountered in the functional sufficient dimension reduction. The functional principal component analysis with truncation be used as a regularization mechanism. Under some mild conditions, the statistical consistency of the proposed methods is established. It is demonstrated that the two methods are competitive compared with some existing FSDR methods by simulations and real data analyses.

Multiperson Detection and Vital-Sign Sensing Empowered by Space-Time-Coding RISs

Passive human sensing using wireless signals has attracted increasing attention due to its superiorities of non-contact and robustness in various lighting conditions. However, when multiple human individuals are present, their reflected signals could be intertwined in the time, frequency and spatial domains, making it challenging to separate them. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel system for multiperson detection and monitoring of vital signs (i.e., respiration and heartbeat) with the assistance of space-time-coding (STC) reconfigurable intelligent metasurfaces (RISs). Specifically, the proposed system scans the area of interest (AoI) for human detection by using the harmonic beams generated by the STC RIS. Simultaneously, frequencyorthogonal beams are assigned to each detected person for accurate estimation of their respiration rate (RR) and heartbeat rate (HR). Furthermore, to efficiently extract the respiration signal and the much weaker heartbeat signal, we propose an improved variational mode decomposition (VMD) algorithm to accurately decompose the complex reflected signals into a smaller number of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). We build a prototype to validate the proposed multiperson detection and vital-sign monitoring system. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system can simultaneously monitor the vital signs of up to four persons. The errors of RR and HR estimation using the improved VMD algorithm are below 1 RPM (respiration per minute) and 5 BPM (beats per minute), respectively. Further analysis reveals that the flexible beam controlling mechanism empowered by the STC RIS can reduce the noise reflected from other irrelative objects on the physical layer, and improve the signal-to-noise ratio of echoes from the human chest.

Integrated Sensing and Communications: Recent Advances and Ten Open Challenges

It is anticipated that integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) would be one of the key enablers of next-generation wireless networks (such as beyond 5G (B5G) and 6G) for supporting a variety of emerging applications. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review of the recent advances in ISAC systems, with a particular focus on their foundations, system design, networking aspects and ISAC applications. Furthermore, we discuss the corresponding open questions of the above that emerged in each issue. Hence, we commence with the information theory of sensing and communications (S$\&$C), followed by the information-theoretic limits of ISAC systems by shedding light on the fundamental performance metrics. Next, we discuss their clock synchronization and phase offset problems, the associated Pareto-optimal signaling strategies, as well as the associated super-resolution ISAC system design. Moreover, we envision that ISAC ushers in a paradigm shift for the future cellular networks relying on network sensing, transforming the classic cellular architecture, cross-layer resource management methods, and transmission protocols. In ISAC applications, we further highlight the security and privacy issues of wireless sensing. Finally, we close by studying the recent advances in a representative ISAC use case, namely the multi-object multi-task (MOMT) recognition problem using wireless signals.

Fuzzy dark matter dynamics in tidally perturbed dwarf spheroidal galaxy satellites

Fuzzy dark matter (FDM) has dynamical properties that differ significantly from cold dark matter (CDM). These dynamical differences are strongly manifested on the spatial scale of dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs), which roughly corresponds to the de Broglie wavelength of a canonical mass FDM particle. We study simulations of a dSph satellite which is tidally perturbed by its host galaxy, in order to identify dynamical signatures that are unique to FDM, and to quantify the imprints of such perturbations on an observable stellar tracer population. We find that a perturbed FDM soliton develops a long-standing breathing mode, whereas for CDM such a breathing mode quickly phase-mixes and disappears. We also demonstrate that such signatures become imprinted on the dynamics of a stellar tracer population, making them observable with sufficiently precise astrometric measurements.
