Relativistic chiral description of the $^1S_0$ nucleon-nucleon scattering

Recently, a relativistic chiral nucleon-nucleon interaction is formulated up to leading order which provides a good description of the phase shifts of $J\leq1$ partial waves [Chin. Phys. C 42 (2018) 014103]. Nevertheless, a separable regulator function that is not manifestily covariant was used in solving the relativistic scattering equation. In the present work, we first propose a covariant and separable form factor to regularize the kernel potential and then apply it to study the simplest but most challenging $^1S_0$ channel which features several low-energy scales. In addition to being self-consistent, we show that the resulting relativistic potential can describe quite well the unique features of the $^1S_0$ channel at leading order, in particular the pole position of the virtual bound state and the zero amplitude at the scattering momentum $\sim 340$ MeV, indicating that the relativistic formulation might be more natural from the point of view of effective field theories.

Partial decay widths of $ϕ(2170)$ to kaonic resonances

In this work we study the strong decays of $ϕ(2170)$ to final states involving the kaonic resonances $K(1460)$, $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$, on which experimental data have recently been extracted by the BESIII Collaboration. The formalism developed here is based on interpreting $ϕ(2170)$ and $K(1460)$ as states arising from three-hadron dynamics, which is inspired by our earlier works. For $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$ we investigate different descriptions, such as a mixture of states belonging to the nonet of axial resonances, or the former one as a state originating from the vector-pseudoscalar dynamics. The ratios among the partial widths of $K^+(1460)K^-$, $K^+_1(1400)K^-$ and $K^+_1(1270)K^-$ obtained are compatible with the experimental results, reinforcing the three-body nature of $ϕ(2170)$. Within our formalism, we can also explain the suppressed decay of $ϕ(2170)$ to $K^*(892) \bar K^*(892)$, as found by the BESIII Collaboration. Furthermore, our results can be useful in clarifying the properties of $K(1460)$, $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$ when higher statistics data would be available.

Towards the discovery of new physics with lepton-universality ratios of $b\to s\ell\ell$ decays

Tests of lepton-universality as rate ratios in $b\to s \ell\ell$ transitions can be predicted very accurately in the Standard Model. The deficits with respect to expectations reported by the LHCb experiment in muon-to-electron ratios of the $B\to K^{(*)}\ell\ell$ decay rates thus point to genuine manifestations of lepton non-universal new physics. In this paper, we analyse these measurements in the context of effective field theory. First, we discuss the interplay of the different operators in $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ and provide predictions for $R_{K^*}$ in the Standard Model and in new-physics scenarios that can explain $R_K$. We also provide approximate numerical formulas for these observables in bins of interest as functions of the relevant Wilson coefficients. Secondly, we perform frequentist fits to $R_{K}$ and $R_{K^*}$. The SM disagrees with these measurements at $3.7σ$ significance. We find excellent fits in scenarios with combinations of $\mathcal O_{9(10)}^\ell=\bar sγ^μb_L~\ellγ_μ(γ_5) \ell$ operators, with pulls relative to the Standard Model in the region of $4σ$. An important conclusion of our analysis is that a lepton-specific contribution to $\mathcal O_{10}$ is essential to understand the data. Under the hypothesis that new-physics couples selectively to the muons, we also present fits to other $b\to sμμ$ data with a conservative error assessment, and comment on more general scenarios. Finally, we discuss new lepton universality ratios that, if new physics is the origin of the observed discrepancy, should contribute to the statistically significant discovery of new physics in the near future.

Production of the (predicted) $K^*(4307)$ in $B$ decays

In this work we study the production of $K^*(4307)$ in $B$ decays by determining the $J/ψπ^{+(0)}K^{0}$ and $J/ψπ^- K^+$ invariant mass distributions of the processes $B^+\to J/ψπ^+π^0 K^0$ and $B^+\to J/ψπ^+π^- K^+$, respectively. Such $K^*(4307)$ has been recently predicted as a three-body state originated from the dynamics involved in the $K D\bar D^*$ system, with the $KD$ subsystem forming the $D^{*}_{s0}(2317)$ in isospin 0, and the $D\bar D^*$ subsystem generating the $X(3872)$ in isospin 0 and the $Z_c(3900)$ in isospin 1. The hidden charm content of $K^*(4307)$ favors its decay to a state like $J/ψπK$ and the study of $B$-decays with these particles in their final states can constitute a way of finding experimental evidences for such an exotic vector meson, whose width, in spite of its large mass, is still quite narrow (around 18 MeV).

Multiple charm and hidden charm mesons with strangeness

In this talk we summarize our latest results on the study of three-body systems with explicit/hidden charm and with strangeness. In particular, we focus on the $K D D $ and $K D\bar D^*$ systems, where a charm $+2$, isospin $1/2$ and strangeness $+1$ state is found with a mass around 4140 MeV in the former and a $K^*$ state, with hidden charm, at a mass around 4307 MeV is obtained in the latter. Both states are predictions of our model and the experimental confirmation of them would be important to understand the properties of the strong interaction in the presence of heavy quarks.

On the two-body decay processes of the predicted three-body $K^*(4307)$ resonance

In a recent theoretical work, Phys. Lett. B785, 112 (2018), we proposed that a $K^*$ resonance with hidden charm content arises from the $KD\bar D^*$ dynamics, where the $D\bar D^*$ system is treated as a $Z_c(3900)$ or $X(3872)$. With the motivation of determining its further properties, which can be observed in experiments, we now present a calculation of the decay processes of this $K^*$, namely $K^*(4307)$, to two-body channels. Particularly, we consider the decay channels $J/ψK^*(892)$, $\bar{D}D_s$, $\bar{D}D_s^*$ and $\bar{D}^* D_s^*$. The mechanisms of the decay to these channels involve triangular loops and are a consequence of the internal structure of the state. Thus, the values found for the decay widths of the proposed $K^*(4307)$ are related to its nature and should be valuable for carrying on an experimental study of the $K^*(4307)$. A $K^*$ state with such a mass (in the charmonium region) and quantum numbers is a clear manifestation of an exotic meson, since, having hidden charm (i.e., a $c\bar c$ pair), its mass and quantum numbers can not be explained within a quark-antiquark description.

Possible bound states with hidden bottom from $\bar{K}^{(*)}B^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)}$ systems

We study the three-body systems of $\bar{K}^{(*)}B^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)}$ by solving the Faddeev equations in the fixed-center approximation, where the light particle $\bar{K}^{(*)}$ interacts with the heavy bound states of $B\bar{B}$ ($B^*\bar{B}^*$) forming the clusters. In terms of the very attractive $\bar{K}^*B$ and $\bar{K}^*B^*$ subsystems, which are constrained by the observed $B_{s1}(5830)$ and $B_{s2}^*(5840)$ states in experiment, we find two deep bound states, containing the hidden-bottom components, with masses $11002\pm 63$ MeV and $11078\pm 57$ MeV in the $\bar{K}^*B\bar{B}$ and $\bar{K}^*B^*\bar{B}^*$ systems, respectively. The two corresponding states with higher masses of the above systems are also predicted. In addition, using the constrained two-body amplitudes of $\bar{K}B^{(*)}$ and $\bar{K}\bar{B}^{(*)}$ via the hidden gauge symmetry in the heavy-quark sector, we also find two three-body $\bar{K}B\bar{B}$ and $\bar{K}B^{*}\bar{B}^*$ bound states.

Meson-baryon scattering up to the next-to-next-to-leading order in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory

We study the scattering of a pseudoscalar meson off one ground state octet baryon in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory (BChPT) up to the next-to-next-to-leading order. The inherent power counting breaking terms are removed within extended-on-mass-shell scheme. We perform the first combined study of the pion-nucleon and kaon-nucleon scattering data in covariant BChPT and show that it can provide a reasonable description of the experimental data. In addition, we find that it is possible to fit the experimental baryon masses and the pion-nucleon and kaon-nucleon scattering data simultaneously at this order, thus providing a consistent check on covariant BChPT. We compare the scattering lengths of all the pertinent channels with available experimental data and those of other approaches. In addition, we have studied the leading order contributions of the virtual decuplet and found that they can improve the description of the $πN$ phase shifts near the $Δ(1232)$ peak, while they have negligible effects on the description of the $K N$ phase shifts.

Covariant chiral nucleon-nucleon contact Lagrangian up to order $\mathcal{O}(q^4)$

We adopt a covariant version of the naive dimensional analysis and construct the chiral two-nucleon contact Lagrangian constrained by Lorentz, parity, charge conjugation, hermitian conjugation, and chiral symmetries. We show that at $\mathcal{O}(q^0)$, $\mathcal{O}(q^2)$, $\mathcal{O}(q^4)$, where $q$ denotes a generic small quantity, there are 4, 13, and 23 terms, respectively. We find that by performing $1/m_N$ expansions, the covariant Lagrangian reduces to the conventional non-relativistic one, which includes 2, 7, and 15 terms at each corresponding order.

Relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock in nuclear matter without the average momentum approximation

Brueckner-Hartree-Fock theory allows to derive the $G$-matrix as an effective interaction between nucleons in the nuclear medium. It depends on the center of mass momentum $\bm{P}$ of the two particles and on the two relative momenta $\bm{q}$ and $\bm{q'}$ before and after the scattering process. In the evaluation of the total energy per particle in nuclear matter usually the angle averaged center of mass momentum approximation has been used. We derive in detail the exact expressions of the angular integrations of the momentum $\bm{P}$ within relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (RBHF) theory, especially for the case of asymmetric nuclear matter. In order to assess the reliability of the conventional average momentum approximation for the binding energy, the saturation properties of symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter are systematically investigated based on the realistic Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential. It is found that the exact treatment of the center of mass momentum leads to non-negligible contributions to the higher order physical quantities. The correlation between the symmetry energy $E_{\mathrm{sym}}$, the slope parameter $L$, and the curvature $K_{\mathrm{sym}}$ of the symmetry energy are investigated. The results of our RBHF calculations for the bulk parameters characterizing the equation of state are compared with recent constraints extracted from giant monopole resonance and isospin diffusion experiments.

$K^*$ mesons with hidden charm arising from $KX(3872)$ and $KZ_c(3900)$ dynamics

Inspired by the recent discovery of the pentaquark states $P_c(4450)$ and $P_c(4380)$, which can be viewed as excited nucleon states with hidden charm, we study the three-body interaction of a kaon and a pair of $D\bar{D}^*$ in isospin 0 and 1. We show that the two body interactions stringently constrained by the existence of the $D_{s0}^*(2317)$, $D^*_{s1}(2460)$, $X(3872)$, and $Z_c(3900)$, which are widely believed to contain large $DK$, $D^* K$, and $D\bar{D}^*$ components, inevitably lead to the existence of a heavy $K^*$ meson with hidden charm. Concrete coupled channel three-body calculations yield its mass and width as $(4307\pm 2)- i (9\pm 2)$ MeV with $I(J^P)=1/2(1^-)$. This state, if found experimentally, definitely cannot be accommodated in a $q\bar{q}$ picture, and therefore presents a clear case of an exotic hadron.

Pion-nucleon sigma term revisited in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory

We study the latest $N_f=2+1+1$ and $N_f=2$ ETMC lattice QCD simulations of the nucleon masses and extract the pion-nucleon sigma term utilizing the Feynman-Hellmann theorem in SU(2) baryon chiral perturbation theory with the extended-on-mass-shell scheme. We find that the lattice QCD data can be described quite well already at the next-to-next-to-leading order. The overall picture remains essentially the same at the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order. Our final result is $σ_{πN}=50.2(1.2)(2.0)$ MeV, or equivalently, $f_{u/d}^N=0.0535(13)(21)$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and second is theoretical originated from chiral truncations, which is in agreement with that determined previously from the $N_f=2+1$ and $N_f=2$ lattice QCD data and that determined by the Cheng-Dashen theorem. In addition, we show that the inclusion of the virtual $Δ(1232)$ does not change qualitatively our results.

Are there near-threshold Coulomb-like Baryonia?

The $Λ_c(2590) Σ_c$ system can exchange a pion near the mass-shell. Owing to the opposite intrinsic parity of the $Λ_c(2590)$ and $Σ_c$, the pion is exchanged in S-wave. This gives rise to a Coulomb-like force that might be able to bind the system. If one takes into account that the pion is not exactly on the mass shell, there is a shallow S-wave state, which we generically call the $Y_{cc}(5045)$ and $Y_{c\bar c}(5045)$ for the $Λ_c(2590) Σ_c$ and $Λ_c(2590) \barΣ_c$ systems respectively. For the baryon-antibaryon case this Coulomb-like force is independent of spin: the $Y_{c\bar c}(5045)$ baryonia will appear either in the spin $S=0$ or $S=1$ configurations with G-parities $G=(-1)^{L+S+1}$. For the baryon-baryon case the Coulomb-like force is attractive in the spin $S=0$ configuration, for which a doubly charmed molecule is expected to form near the threshold. This type of spectrum might be very well realized in other molecular states composed of two opposite parity hadrons with the same spin and a mass difference close to that of a pseudo-Goldstone boson, of which a few examples include the $Λ(1405) N$, $Λ(1520) Σ^*$, $Ξ(1690) Σ$, $D_{s0}^*(2317) D$ and $D_{s1}^*(2460) D^*$ molecules.

Octet baryon magnetic moments at next-to-next-to-leading order in covariant chiral perturbation theory

We calculate the octet baryon magnetic moments in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory with the extended-on-mass-shell renormalization scheme up to next-to-next-to-leading order. At this order, there are nine low-energy constants, which cannot be uniquely determined by the seven experimental data alone. We propose two strategies to circumvent this problem. First, we assume that chiral perturbation theory has a certain convergence rate and use this as one additional constraint to fix the low-energy constants by fitting to the experimental data. Second, we fit to lattice QCD simulations to determine the low-energy constants. We then compare the resulting predictions of the light and strange quark mass dependence of the octet baryon magnetic moments by the three mostly studied formulations of baryon chiral perturbation theory, namely, the extended-on-mass-shell, the infrared, and the heavy baryon approach. It is shown that once more precise lattice data become available, one will learn more about the convergence pattern of baryon chiral perturbation theory.

Leading order relativistic hyperon-nucleon interactions in chiral effective field theory

We apply a recently proposed covariant power counting in nucleon-nucleon interactions to study strangeness $S=-1$ $ΛN-ΣN$ interactions in chiral effective field theory. At leading order, Lorentz invariance introduces 12 low energy constants, in contrast to the heavy baryon approach, where only five appear. The Kadyshevsky equation is adopted to resum the potential in order to account for the non-perturbative nature of hyperon-nucleon interactions. A fit to the $36$ hyperon-nucleon scattering data points yields $χ^2\simeq 16$, which is comparable with the sophisticated phenomenological models and the next-to-leading order heavy baryon approach. However, one cannot achieve a simultaneous description of the nucleon-nucleon phase shifts and strangeness $S=-1$ hyperon-nucleon scattering data at leading order.

Towards a relativistic formulation of baryon-baryon interactions in chiral perturbation theory

In this talk, we report on two recent studies of relativistic nucleon-nucleon and hyperon-nucleon interactions in covariant chiral perturbation theory, where they are constructed up to leading order. The relevant unknown low energy constants are fixed by fitting to the nucleon-nucleon and hyperon-nucleon scattering data. It is shown that these interactions can describe the scattering data with a quality similar to their next-to-leading order non-relativistic counterparts. These studies show that it is technically feasible to construct relativist baryon-baryon interactions, and in addition, after further refinements, these interactions may provide important inputs to {\it ab initio} relativistic nuclear structure and reaction studies and help improve our understanding of low energy strong interactions.

Leading order relativistic chiral nucleon-nucleon interaction

Motivated by the successes of relativistic theories in studies of atomic/molecular and nuclear systems and the need for a relativistic chiral force in relativistic nuclear structure studies, we explore a new relativistic scheme to construct the nucleon-nucleon interaction in the framework of covariant chiral effective field theory. The chiral interaction is formulated up to leading order with covariant power counting and a Lorentz invariant chiral Lagrangian. We find that the relativistic scheme induces all six spin operators needed to describe the nuclear force. A detailed investigation of the partial wave potentials shows a better description of the $^1S_0$ and $^3P_0$ phase shifts than the leading order Weinberg approach, and similar to that of the next-to-leading order Weinberg approach. For the other partial waves with angular momenta $J\geq 1$, the relativistic results are almost the same as their leading order non-relativistic counterparts.

Relativistic baryon-baryon interactions in chiral perturbation theory

We report on the recent studies of leading order baryon-baryon interactions in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory. In the strangeness $S=0$ sector, one can achieve a rather good description of the Nijmegen $np$ phase shifts with angular momenta $J\leq 1$, particularly the $^1S_0$ and $^3P_0$ partial waves, comparable with the next-to-leading order (NLO) heavy baryon approach. In the strangeness $S=-1$ hyperon-nucleon sector, the best fit of the 36 scattering data is similar to the sophisticated phenomenological models and the NLO heavy baryon approach.
