Recent $J/ψ$ measurements at the PHENIX experiment

Quarkonium is an ideal probe to explore the properties of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Unlike Large Hadron Collider (LHC) measurements, quarkonium production at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) has different production mechanisms, can access different kinematic phase space and may experience different medium densities/temperatures. The PHENIX experiment has collected a large $J/ψ\to μ^{+}μ^{-}$ data set within its unique pseudorapidity region of $1.2<|η|<2.2$ in $p+p$, $p+A$ and $A+A$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV from 2014 to 2016. Latest results of normalized charged particle multiplicity dependent normalized forward $J/ψ$ yields and normalized forward $ψ(2S)$ to $J/ψ$ ratio in 200 GeV $p+p$ collisions as well as forward $J/ψ$ azimuthal anisotropy in 200 GeV Au+Au collisions will be shown. Comparison with other RHIC and LHC measurements and latest theoretical calculations will be discussed. These PHENIX results provide their unique contributions in improving the understanding of the multi-parton interaction contribution to charmonium production and the recombination/coalescence contribution to charmonium formation within Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) at RHIC energies.

Efficient GPU Cloth Simulation with Non-distance Barriers and Subspace Reuse

This paper pushes the performance of cloth simulation, making the simulation interactive even for high-resolution garment models while keeping every triangle untangled. The penetration-free guarantee is inspired by the interior point method, which converts the inequality constraints to barrier potentials. We propose a major overhaul of this modality within the projective dynamics framework by leveraging an adaptive weighting mechanism inspired by barrier formulation. This approach does not depend on the distance between mesh primitives, but on the virtual life span of a collision event and thus keeps all the vertices within feasible region. Such a non-distance barrier model allows a new way to integrate collision resolution into the simulation pipeline. Another contributor to the performance boost comes from the subspace reuse strategy. This is based on the observation that low-frequency strain propagation is near orthogonal to the deformation induced by collisions or self-collisions, often of high frequency. Subspace reuse then takes care of low-frequency residuals, while high-frequency residuals can also be effectively smoothed by GPU-based iterative solvers. We show that our method outperforms existing fast cloth simulators by at least one order while producing high-quality animations of high-resolution models.

XPBI: Position-Based Dynamics with Smoothing Kernels Handles Continuum Inelasticity

PBD and its extension, XPBD, have been predominantly applied to compliant constrained elastodynamics, with their potential in finite strain (visco-) elastoplasticity remaining underexplored. XPBD is often perceived to stand in contrast to other meshless methods, such as the MPM. MPM is based on discretizing the weak form of governing partial differential equations within a continuum domain, coupled with a hybrid Lagrangian-Eulerian method for tracking deformation gradients. In contrast, XPBD formulates specific constraints, whether hard or compliant, to positional degrees of freedom. We revisit this perception by investigating the potential of XPBD in handling inelastic materials that are described with classical continuum mechanics-based yield surfaces and elastoplastic flow rules. Our inspiration is that a robust estimation of the velocity gradient is a sufficiently useful key to effectively tracking deformation gradients in XPBD simulations. By further incorporating implicit inelastic constitutive relationships, we introduce a plasticity in-the-loop updated Lagrangian augmentation to XPBD. This enhancement enables the simulation of elastoplastic, viscoplastic, and granular substances following their standard constitutive laws. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method through high-resolution and real-time simulations of diverse materials such as snow, sand, and plasticine, and its integration with standard XPBD simulations of cloth and water.

Counterfactual Data Augmentation with Denoising Diffusion for Graph Anomaly Detection

A critical aspect of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) is to enhance the node representations by aggregating node neighborhood information. However, when detecting anomalies, the representations of abnormal nodes are prone to be averaged by normal neighbors, making the learned anomaly representations less distinguishable. To tackle this issue, we propose CAGAD -- an unsupervised Counterfactual data Augmentation method for Graph Anomaly Detection -- which introduces a graph pointer neural network as the heterophilic node detector to identify potential anomalies whose neighborhoods are normal-node-dominant. For each identified potential anomaly, we design a graph-specific diffusion model to translate a part of its neighbors, which are probably normal, into anomalous ones. At last, we involve these translated neighbors in GNN neighborhood aggregation to produce counterfactual representations of anomalies. Through aggregating the translated anomalous neighbors, counterfactual representations become more distinguishable and further advocate detection performance. The experimental results on four datasets demonstrate that CAGAD significantly outperforms strong baselines, with an average improvement of 2.35% on F1, 2.53% on AUC-ROC, and 2.79% on AUC-PR.

GarmentDreamer: 3DGS Guided Garment Synthesis with Diverse Geometry and Texture Details

Traditional 3D garment creation is labor-intensive, involving sketching, modeling, UV mapping, and texturing, which are time-consuming and costly. Recent advances in diffusion-based generative models have enabled new possibilities for 3D garment generation from text prompts, images, and videos. However, existing methods either suffer from inconsistencies among multi-view images or require additional processes to separate cloth from the underlying human model. In this paper, we propose GarmentDreamer, a novel method that leverages 3D Gaussian Splatting (GS) as guidance to generate wearable, simulation-ready 3D garment meshes from text prompts. In contrast to using multi-view images directly predicted by generative models as guidance, our 3DGS guidance ensures consistent optimization in both garment deformation and texture synthesis. Our method introduces a novel garment augmentation module, guided by normal and RGBA information, and employs implicit Neural Texture Fields (NeTF) combined with Score Distillation Sampling (SDS) to generate diverse geometric and texture details. We validate the effectiveness of our approach through comprehensive qualitative and quantitative experiments, showcasing the superior performance of GarmentDreamer over state-of-the-art alternatives. VR-GS: A Physical Dynamics-Aware Interactive Gaussian Splatting System in Virtual Reality

As consumer Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) technologies gain momentum, there's a growing focus on the development of engagements with 3D virtual content. Unfortunately, traditional techniques for content creation, editing, and interaction within these virtual spaces are fraught with difficulties. They tend to be not only engineering-intensive but also require extensive expertise, which adds to the frustration and inefficiency in virtual object manipulation. Our proposed VR-GS system represents a leap forward in human-centered 3D content interaction, offering a seamless and intuitive user experience. Linearly-evolved Transformer for Pan-sharpening

Vision transformer family has dominated the satellite pan-sharpening field driven by the global-wise spatial information modeling mechanism from the core self-attention ingredient. The standard modeling rules within these promising pan-sharpening methods are to roughly stack the transformer variants in a cascaded manner. Despite the remarkable advancement, their success may be at the huge cost of model parameters and FLOPs, thus preventing its application over low-resource satellites. To address this challenge between favorable performance and expensive computation, we tailor an efficient linearly-evolved transformer variant and employ it to construct a lightweight pan-sharpening framework. In detail, we deepen into the popular cascaded transformer modeling with cutting-edge methods and develop the alternative 1-order linearly-evolved transformer variant with the 1-dimensional linear convolution chain to achieve the same function. In this way, our proposed method is capable of benefiting the cascaded modeling rule while achieving favorable performance in the efficient manner. Extensive experiments over multiple satellite datasets suggest that our proposed method achieves competitive performance against other state-of-the-art with fewer computational resources. Further, the consistently favorable performance has been verified over the hyper-spectral image fusion task. Our main focus is to provide an alternative global modeling framework with an efficient structure. The code will be publicly available.

PhysGaussian: Physics-Integrated 3D Gaussians for Generative Dynamics

We introduce PhysGaussian, a new method that seamlessly integrates physically grounded Newtonian dynamics within 3D Gaussians to achieve high-quality novel motion synthesis. Employing a custom Material Point Method (MPM), our approach enriches 3D Gaussian kernels with physically meaningful kinematic deformation and mechanical stress attributes, all evolved in line with continuum mechanics principles. A defining characteristic of our method is the seamless integration between physical simulation and visual rendering: both components utilize the same 3D Gaussian kernels as their discrete representations. This negates the necessity for triangle/tetrahedron meshing, marching cubes, "cage meshes," or any other geometry embedding, highlighting the principle of "what you see is what you simulate (WS$^2$)." Our method demonstrates exceptional versatility across a wide variety of materials--including elastic entities, metals, non-Newtonian fluids, and granular materials--showcasing its strong capabilities in creating diverse visual content with novel viewpoints and movements. Neural Atoms: Propagating Long-range Interaction in Molecular Graphs through Efficient Communication Channel

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have been widely adopted for drug discovery with molecular graphs. Nevertheless, current GNNs mainly excel in leveraging short-range interactions (SRI) but struggle to capture long-range interactions (LRI), both of which are crucial for determining molecular properties. To tackle this issue, we propose a method to abstract the collective information of atomic groups into a few $\textit{Neural Atoms}$ by implicitly projecting the atoms of a molecular. Specifically, we explicitly exchange the information among neural atoms and project them back to the atoms' representations as an enhancement. With this mechanism, neural atoms establish the communication channels among distant nodes, effectively reducing the interaction scope of arbitrary node pairs into a single hop. To provide an inspection of our method from a physical perspective, we reveal its connection to the traditional LRI calculation method, Ewald Summation. The Neural Atom can enhance GNNs to capture LRI by approximating the potential LRI of the molecular. We conduct extensive experiments on four long-range graph benchmarks, covering graph-level and link-level tasks on molecular graphs. We achieve up to a 27.32% and 38.27% improvement in the 2D and 3D scenarios, respectively. Empirically, our method can be equipped with an arbitrary GNN to help capture LRI. PIE-NeRF: Physics-based Interactive Elastodynamics with NeRF

We show that physics-based simulations can be seamlessly integrated with NeRF to generate high-quality elastodynamics of real-world objects. Unlike existing methods, we discretize nonlinear hyperelasticity in a meshless way, obviating the necessity for intermediate auxiliary shape proxies like a tetrahedral mesh or voxel grid. A quadratic generalized moving least square (Q-GMLS) is employed to capture nonlinear dynamics and large deformation on the implicit model. Such meshless integration enables versatile simulations of complex and codimensional shapes. We adaptively place the least-square kernels according to the NeRF density field to significantly reduce the complexity of the nonlinear simulation. As a result, physically realistic animations can be conveniently synthesized using our method for a wide range of hyperelastic materials at an interactive rate. Scenarios Engineering driven Autonomous Transportation in Open-Pit Mines

One critical bottleneck that impedes the development and deployment of autonomous transportation in open-pit mines is guaranteed robustness and trustworthiness in prohibitively extreme scenarios. In this research, a novel scenarios engineering (SE) methodology for the autonomous mining truck is proposed for open-pit mines. SE increases the trustworthiness and robustness of autonomous trucks from four key components: Scenario Feature Extractor, Intelligence & Index (I&I), Calibration & Certification (C&C), and Verification & Validation (V&V). Scenario feature extractor is a comprehensive pipeline approach that captures complex interactions and latent dependencies in complex mining scenarios. I&I effectively enhances the quality of the training dataset, thereby establishing a solid foundation for autonomous transportation in mining areas. C&C is grounded in the intrinsic regulation, capabilities, and contributions of the intelligent systems employed in autonomous transportation to align with traffic participants in the real world and ensure their performance through certification. V&V process ensures that the autonomous transportation system can be correctly implemented, while validation focuses on evaluating the ability of the well-trained model to operate efficiently in the complex and dynamic conditions of the open-pit mines. This methodology addresses the unique challenges of autonomous transportation in open-pit mining, promoting productivity, safety, and performance in mining operations.

Tree-Regularized Tabular Embeddings

Tabular neural network (NN) has attracted remarkable attentions and its recent advances have gradually narrowed the performance gap with respect to tree-based models on many public datasets. While the mainstreams focus on calibrating NN to fit tabular data, we emphasize the importance of homogeneous embeddings and alternately concentrate on regularizing tabular inputs through supervised pretraining. Specifically, we extend a recent work (DeepTLF) and utilize the structure of pretrained tree ensembles to transform raw variables into a single vector (T2V), or an array of tokens (T2T). Without loss of space efficiency, these binarized embeddings can be consumed by canonical tabular NN with fully-connected or attention-based building blocks. Through quantitative experiments on 88 OpenML datasets with binary classification task, we validated that the proposed tree-regularized representation not only tapers the difference with respect to tree-based models, but also achieves on-par and better performance when compared with advanced NN models. Most importantly, it possesses better robustness and can be easily scaled and generalized as standalone encoder for tabular modality. Codes: https://github.com/milanlx/tree-regularized-embedding.

Less or More From Teacher: Exploiting Trilateral Geometry For Knowledge Distillation

Knowledge distillation aims to train a compact student network using soft supervision from a larger teacher network and hard supervision from ground truths. However, determining an optimal knowledge fusion ratio that balances these supervisory signals remains challenging. Prior methods generally resort to a constant or heuristic-based fusion ratio, which often falls short of a proper balance. In this study, we introduce a novel adaptive method for learning a sample-wise knowledge fusion ratio, exploiting both the correctness of teacher and student, as well as how well the student mimics the teacher on each sample. Our method naturally leads to the intra-sample trilateral geometric relations among the student prediction ($S$), teacher prediction ($T$), and ground truth ($G$). To counterbalance the impact of outliers, we further extend to the inter-sample relations, incorporating the teacher's global average prediction $\bar{T}$ for samples within the same class. A simple neural network then learns the implicit mapping from the intra- and inter-sample relations to an adaptive, sample-wise knowledge fusion ratio in a bilevel-optimization manner. Our approach provides a simple, practical, and adaptable solution for knowledge distillation that can be employed across various architectures and model sizes. Extensive experiments demonstrate consistent improvements over other loss re-weighting methods on image classification, attack detection, and click-through rate prediction.

Exploration of hadronization through heavy flavor production at the future Electron-Ion Collider

The future Electron-Ion Collider will utilize high-luminosity high-energy electron+proton ($e+p$) and electron+nucleus ($e+A$) collisions to solve several fundamental questions in the high energy nuclear physics field. Heavy flavor products play an important role in constraining the initial-state nucleon/nucleus parton distribution functions especially in the high and low Bjorken-x ($x_{BJ}$) region and exploring the final-state parton propagation and hadronization processes under different nuclear medium conditions. Latest simulation studies of heavy flavor hadron and jet measurements with the EIC project detector conceptual design will be discussed. The projected statistical accuracy of heavy flavor jet and heavy flavor hadron inside jet measurements in comparison with latest theoretical calculations will be presented.

CSLNSpeech: solving extended speech separation problem with the help of Chinese sign language

Previous audio-visual speech separation methods use the synchronization of the speaker's facial movement and speech in the video to supervise the speech separation in a self-supervised way. In this paper, we propose a model to solve the speech separation problem assisted by both face and sign language, which we call the extended speech separation problem. We design a general deep learning network for learning the combination of three modalities, audio, face, and sign language information, for better solving the speech separation problem. To train the model, we introduce a large-scale dataset named the Chinese Sign Language News Speech (CSLNSpeech) dataset, in which three modalities of audio, face, and sign language coexist. Experiment results show that the proposed model has better performance and robustness than the usual audio-visual system. Besides, sign language modality can also be used alone to supervise speech separation tasks, and the introduction of sign language is helpful for hearing-impaired people to learn and communicate. Last, our model is a general speech separation framework and can achieve very competitive separation performance on two open-source audio-visual datasets. Neural Stress Fields for Reduced-order Elastoplasticity and Fracture

We propose a hybrid neural network and physics framework for reduced-order modeling of elastoplasticity and fracture. State-of-the-art scientific computing models like the Material Point Method (MPM) faithfully simulate large-deformation elastoplasticity and fracture mechanics. However, their long runtime and large memory consumption render them unsuitable for applications constrained by computation time and memory usage, e.g., virtual reality. To overcome these barriers, we propose a reduced-order framework. Our key innovation is training a low-dimensional manifold for the Kirchhoff stress field via an implicit neural representation. This low-dimensional neural stress field (NSF) enables efficient evaluations of stress values and, correspondingly, internal forces at arbitrary spatial locations. In addition, we also train neural deformation and affine fields to build low-dimensional manifolds for the deformation and affine momentum fields. These neural stress, deformation, and affine fields share the same low-dimensional latent space, which uniquely embeds the high-dimensional simulation state. After training, we run new simulations by evolving in this single latent space, which drastically reduces the computation time and memory consumption. Our general continuum-mechanics-based reduced-order framework is applicable to any phenomena governed by the elastodynamics equation. To showcase the versatility of our framework, we simulate a wide range of material behaviors, including elastica, sand, metal, non-Newtonian fluids, fracture, contact, and collision. We demonstrate dimension reduction by up to 100,000X and time savings by up to 10X.
