Different Feedback, Different Updates: Selective Self-Learning from User Interactions for Large Language Models

User feedback offers natural supervision for persistent LLM improvement, but a single message may support multiple behavioral changes with different scopes of generalization. We introduce SLIFT, a selective self-learning framework built on a task-relative view of user feedback. SLIFT decomposes each feedback message into atomic components and interprets each component relative to the original task as Fix, Spec, or Null: requirements for task validity, compatible condition-specific refinements, or content with no reliable positive update direction. To incorporate each change at the appropriate scope, SLIFT trains two complementary LoRA adapters on a shared frozen backbone: a Generalist that consolidates Fix requirements into default behavior through feedback-conditioned self-distillation, and a Specialist that observes only the task and Generalist response to supply residual guidance for applicable, unmet Spec refinements. Null components induce no positive update. Across backbones, SLIFT achieves strong performance on both MemoryBench and WildFB, with targeted analyses further examining its underlying mechanisms. We release our code at https://anonymous.4open.science/r/SLIFT.

Electronic and Vibrational Properties of On-Surface Synthesized Gulf-Edged Chiral Graphene Nanoribbons

On-surface synthesis enables graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with atomic precision, but the structural diversity of chiral GNRs remains constrained by the limited range of precursor architectures. Here, we design a trisnaphthalene-based diiodo precursor and use it to synthesize a gulf-edged (4,2,7)-chGNR on Au(111). Scanning tunneling microscopy and bond-resolved non-contact atomic force microscopy establish the atomically precise ribbon structure, while scanning tunneling spectroscopy and periodic density functional theory calculations identify a closed-shell semiconducting state with an experimental band gap of 1.8 eV. Raman spectroscopy, supported by vibrational calculations, resolves a mode localized predominantly at the gulf-edge C-H groups and reveals rapid spectral degradation following air exposure. These results demonstrate a precursor-design concept for a distinct chGNR architecture and correlate its atomic structure with its electronic, vibrational, and environmental-response properties.

Speech Meets ELF: Audio Conditional Continuous-Target Diffusion for Speech Recognition and Translation

Speech-to-text (S2T) systems for recognition (ASR) and translation (S2TT) typically generate discrete text tokens. In contrast, continuous-target language modelling performs generation in a continuous space, yet its potential for S2T remains unexplored. To bridge this gap, we propose ELF-S2T, an audio-conditioned continuous-target generative model for S2T. Built upon the pre-trained Embedded Language Flows (ELF) backbone, ELF-S2T processes speech via a frozen Whisper encoder and a single linear projector, prepending the resulting audio condition to the noisy text latent for in-context, flow-matching denoising. To prevent the model from over-relying on its pre-trained text context, we introduce audio forcing during training, and further amplify the audio condition via classifier-free guidance at inference. Experiments on LibriSpeech and CoVoST2 show that ELF-S2T achieves competitive ASR and S2TT performance. Crucially, our error analysis reveals that, although ASR and S2TT errors look very different on the surface, both stem from the same underlying cause, a close distance confusion in the continuous latent space. This finding naturally aligns with the continuous representation generation paradigm, indicating a common semantic mapping process beneath recognition and translation. Our code and pretrained models are publicly available at https://github.com/Sslnon/ELF-S2T.

Separate First, Fuse Later: Mitigating Cross-Modal Interference in Audio-Visual LLMs Reasoning with Modality-Specific Chain-of-Thought

Audio and vision provide complementary evidence for audio-visual question answering, yet current audio-visual large language models may suffer from cross-modal interference: information from one modality misguides the interpretation of another, thereby inducing hallucinations. We attribute this issue to uncontrolled cross-modal interactions during intermediate reasoning. To mitigate this, we propose Separate First, Fuse Later (SFFL), an audio-visual reasoning framework designed to reduce cross-modal interference. SFFL enforces modality-specific chain-of-thought reasoning, producing separate audio and visual reasoning traces and integrating evidence for answering. We construct modality-preference labels via a data pipeline under different modality input settings. We use these labels as an auxiliary reward in reinforcement learning to encourage a instance-dependent preference for modality cues when answering. We further introduce a modality-specific reasoning mechanism that preserves modality isolation during the separated reasoning stage while enabling full access to cross-modal information at the evidence fusion stage. Experiments demonstrate consistent improvements in both accuracy and robustness, yielding an average relative gain of 5.16\% on general AVQA benchmarks and 11.17\% on a cross-modal hallucination benchmark.

Evaluating the Expressive Appropriateness of Speech in Rich Contexts

Evaluating expressive speech remains challenging, as existing methods mainly assess emotional intensity and overlook whether a speech sample is expressively appropriate for its contextual setting. This limitation hinders reliable evaluation of speech systems used in narrative-driven and interactive applications, such as audiobooks and conversational agents. We introduce CEAEval, a Context-rich framework for Evaluating Expressive Appropriateness in speech, which assesses whether a speech sample expressively aligns with the underlying communicative intent implied by its discourse-level narrative context. To support this task, we construct CEAEval-D, the first context-rich speech dataset with real human performances in Mandarin conversational speech, providing narrative descriptions together with fifteen dimensions of human annotations covering expressive attributes and expressive appropriateness. We further develop CEAEval-M, a model that integrates knowledge distillation, planner-based multi-model collaboration, adaptive audio attention bias, and reinforcement learning to perform context-rich expressive appropriateness evaluation. Experiments on a human-annotated test set demonstrate that CEAEval-M substantially outperforms existing speech evaluation and analysis systems.

POTSA: A Cross-Lingual Speech Alignment Framework for Speech-to-Text Translation

Speech Large Language Models have achieved breakthroughs in multilingual speech-to-text translation. However, existing approaches often overlook semantic commonalities across source languages, leading to biased translation performance. In this work, we propose POTSA (Parallel Optimal Transport for Speech Alignment), a new framework based on cross-lingual parallel speech pairs and Optimal Transport, designed to bridge high- and low-resource translation gaps. First, we introduce a Bias Compensation module to coarsely align initial speech representations. Second, we impose token-level OT constraints on a Q-Former using parallel pairs to establish fine-grained representation consistency. Then, we apply a layer scheduling strategy to focus OT constraints on semantically beneficial layers. Experiments on FLEURS show our method achieves SOTA performance, with +1.29 BLEU over five common languages and +2.93 BLEU on zero-shot languages, using only 10 hours of parallel speech per language.

MSR-HuBERT: Self-supervised Pre-training for Adaptation to Multiple Sampling Rates

Self-supervised learning (SSL) has advanced speech processing. However, existing speech SSL methods typically assume a single sampling rate and struggle with mixed-rate data due to temporal resolution mismatch. To address this limitation, we propose MSRHuBERT, a multi-sampling-rate adaptive pre-training method. Building on HuBERT, we replace its single-rate downsampling CNN with a multi-sampling-rate adaptive downsampling CNN that maps raw waveforms from different sampling rates to a shared temporal resolution without resampling. This design enables unified mixed-rate pre-training and fine-tuning. In experiments spanning 16 to 48 kHz, MSRHuBERT outperforms HuBERT on speech recognition and full-band speech reconstruction, preserving high-frequency detail while modeling low-frequency semantic structure. Moreover, MSRHuBERT retains HuBERT's mask-prediction objective and Transformer encoder, so existing analyses and improvements that were developed for HuBERT can apply directly.

SingingBot: An Avatar-Driven System for Robotic Face Singing Performance

Equipping robotic faces with singing capabilities is crucial for empathetic Human-Robot Interaction. However, existing robotic face driving research primarily focuses on conversations or mimicking static expressions, struggling to meet the high demands for continuous emotional expression and coherence in singing. To address this, we propose a novel avatar-driven framework for appealing robotic singing. We first leverage portrait video generation models embedded with extensive human priors to synthesize vivid singing avatars, providing reliable expression and emotion guidance. Subsequently, these facial features are transferred to the robot via semantic-oriented mapping functions that span a wide expression space. Furthermore, to quantitatively evaluate the emotional richness of robotic singing, we propose the Emotion Dynamic Range metric to measure the emotional breadth within the Valence-Arousal space, revealing that a broad emotional spectrum is crucial for appealing performances. Comprehensive experiments prove that our method achieves rich emotional expressions while maintaining lip-audio synchronization, significantly outperforming existing approaches.

MVG4D: Image Matrix-Based Multi-View and Motion Generation for 4D Content Creation from a Single Image

Advances in generative modeling have significantly enhanced digital content creation, extending from 2D images to complex 3D and 4D scenes. Despite substantial progress, producing high-fidelity and temporally consistent dynamic 4D content remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose MVG4D, a novel framework that generates dynamic 4D content from a single still image by combining multi-view synthesis with 4D Gaussian Splatting (4D GS). At its core, MVG4D employs an image matrix module that synthesizes temporally coherent and spatially diverse multi-view images, providing rich supervisory signals for downstream 3D and 4D reconstruction. These multi-view images are used to optimize a 3D Gaussian point cloud, which is further extended into the temporal domain via a lightweight deformation network. Our method effectively enhances temporal consistency, geometric fidelity, and visual realism, addressing key challenges in motion discontinuity and background degradation that affect prior 4D GS-based methods. Extensive experiments on the Objaverse dataset demonstrate that MVG4D outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in CLIP-I, PSNR, FVD, and time efficiency. Notably, it reduces flickering artifacts and sharpens structural details across views and time, enabling more immersive AR/VR experiences. MVG4D sets a new direction for efficient and controllable 4D generation from minimal inputs.

Towards High-fidelity 3D Talking Avatar with Personalized Dynamic Texture

Significant progress has been made for speech-driven 3D face animation, but most works focus on learning the motion of mesh/geometry, ignoring the impact of dynamic texture. In this work, we reveal that dynamic texture plays a key role in rendering high-fidelity talking avatars, and introduce a high-resolution 4D dataset \textbf{TexTalk4D}, consisting of 100 minutes of audio-synced scan-level meshes with detailed 8K dynamic textures from 100 subjects. Based on the dataset, we explore the inherent correlation between motion and texture, and propose a diffusion-based framework \textbf{TexTalker} to simultaneously generate facial motions and dynamic textures from speech. Furthermore, we propose a novel pivot-based style injection strategy to capture the complicity of different texture and motion styles, which allows disentangled control. TexTalker, as the first method to generate audio-synced facial motion with dynamic texture, not only outperforms the prior arts in synthesising facial motions, but also produces realistic textures that are consistent with the underlying facial movements. Mesoscopic light transport in nonlinear disordered media

Nonlinear disordered media uniquely combine multiple scattering and second-harmonic generation. Here, we investigate the statistical properties of the nonlinear light generated within such media. We report super-Rayleigh statistics of the second-harmonic speckle intensity, and demonstrate that it is caused by the mesoscopic correlations arising in extreme scattering conditions. The measured conductance is the lowest ever observed in an isotropically scattering 3D medium, with applications in broadband second-harmonic generation, wavefront shaping in nonlinear disordered media, and photonic computing.

Topo4D: Topology-Preserving Gaussian Splatting for High-Fidelity 4D Head Capture

4D head capture aims to generate dynamic topological meshes and corresponding texture maps from videos, which is widely utilized in movies and games for its ability to simulate facial muscle movements and recover dynamic textures in pore-squeezing. The industry often adopts the method involving multi-view stereo and non-rigid alignment. However, this approach is prone to errors and heavily reliant on time-consuming manual processing by artists. To simplify this process, we propose Topo4D, a novel framework for automatic geometry and texture generation, which optimizes densely aligned 4D heads and 8K texture maps directly from calibrated multi-view time-series images. Specifically, we first represent the time-series faces as a set of dynamic 3D Gaussians with fixed topology in which the Gaussian centers are bound to the mesh vertices. Afterward, we perform alternative geometry and texture optimization frame-by-frame for high-quality geometry and texture learning while maintaining temporal topology stability. Finally, we can extract dynamic facial meshes in regular wiring arrangement and high-fidelity textures with pore-level details from the learned Gaussians. Extensive experiments show that our method achieves superior results than the current SOTA face reconstruction methods both in the quality of meshes and textures. Large-scale photonic computing with nonlinear disordered media

Neural networks find widespread use in scientific and technological applications, yet their implementations in conventional computers have encountered bottlenecks due to ever-expanding computational needs. Photonic neuromorphic hardware, which manipulates information and represents data continuously in the optical domain, is one of the promising platforms with potential advantages of massive parallelism, ultralow latency, and reduced energy consumption. While linear photonic neural networks are within reach, photonic computing with large-scale optical nonlinear nodes remains largely unexplored. Here, we demonstrate a large-scale, high-performance nonlinear photonic neural system based on a disordered polycrystalline slab composed of lithium niobate nanocrystals. Mediated by random quasi-phase-matching and multiple scattering, linear and nonlinear optical speckle features are generated as the interplay between the simultaneous linear random scattering and the second-harmonic generation, defining a complex neural network in which the second-order nonlinearity acts as internal nonlinear activation functions. Benchmarked against linear random projection, such nonlinear mapping embedded with rich physical computational operations shows improved performance across a large collection of machine learning tasks in image classification, regression, and graph classification with varying complexity. Demonstrating up to 27,648 input and 3,500 nonlinear output nodes, the combination of optical nonlinearity and random scattering serves as a scalable computing engine for diverse applications.

Toward Moiré-Free and Detail-Preserving Demosaicking

3D convolutions are commonly employed by demosaicking neural models, in the same way as solving other image restoration problems. Counter-intuitively, we show that 3D convolutions implicitly impede the RGB color spectra from exchanging complementary information, resulting in spectral-inconsistent inference of the local spatial high frequency components. As a consequence, shallow 3D convolution networks suffer the Moiré artifacts, but deep 3D convolutions cause over-smoothness. We analyze the fundamental difference between demosaicking and other problems that predict lost pixels between available ones (e.g., super-resolution reconstruction), and present the underlying reasons for the confliction between Moiré-free and detail-preserving. From the new perspective, our work decouples the common standard convolution procedure to spectral and spatial feature aggregations, which allow strengthening global communication in the spectral dimension while respecting local contrast in the spatial dimension. We apply our demosaicking model to two tasks: Joint Demosaicking-Denoising and Independently Demosaicking. In both applications, our model substantially alleviates artifacts such as Moiré and over-smoothness at similar or lower computational cost to currently top-performing models, as validated by diverse evaluations. Source code will be released along with paper publication.
