Nonmonotonic Evolution of the Superconducting Transition Temperature and Robust Multigap Extended s-wave + s-wave Pairing in Zn-Substituted FeSe Single Crystals

We report a systematic study of superconductivity on Fe1-xZnxSe single crystals synthesized over a broad Zn doping range (x = 0-0.023). High-quality single crystals across all compositions range exhibit superconducting transitions, while the transition temperature Tc shows a pronounced nonmonotonic dependence on Zn doping concentration, indicating that the underlying mechanism govering Tc its evolution cannot be explained solely by simple impurity pair breaking alone. Magnetization and transport measurements confirm the bulk behavior of superconductivity and reveal enhanced scattering effects with Zn doping. Low-temperature specific heat is consistently described by a two-gap scenario composed of an isotropic s-wave gap and an anisotropic extended s-wave gap, whereas single-gap and alternative pairing symmetries fail to describe the data. The nearly unchanged relative weights of the two gap components suggest the weak interband scattering induced by Zn substitution, thereby preserving multiband superconductivity. These results demonstrate the robustness of multigap superconductivity in FeSe and impose stringent constraints on candidate pairing mechanisms, highlighting the role of multiband electronic structure and anisotropic gap formation.

Giant Magnetocaloric Effect in a High-Spin Shastry-Sutherland Dipolar Magnet

The Shastry-Sutherland lattice is a prototypical frustrated quantum magnet. It is notable for its exactly solvable dimer-singlet ground state and hosts a wealth of magnetic phenomena under external fields. Here, this work investigates the high-spin (S = 7/2) Eu-based magnet Eu2MgSi2O7 (EMSO) using low-temperature magnetothermal measurements and Monte Carlo simulations, revealing a giant magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in this Shastry-Sutherland compound. The entropy change peak value is found to be 55.0 J kg-1 K-1 under a field change of B = 0-4 T, approximately 1.5 times larger than the commercial Gd3Ga5O12 (GGG). Adiabatic demagnetization refrigeration achieves a lowest temperature of 151 mK, deeply into the sub-Kelvin regime. Furthermore, a distinctive cooling effect persists below about 1 T, a characteristic absent for conventional magnetic coolants. A dipolar Shastry-Sutherland model is introduced as a minimal model to describe this system; in particular, the experimentally revealed 1/3 magnetization pseudo-plateau can be ascribed to the presence of dipolar couplings between Eu2+ ions, further stabilized by the thermal fluctuations, explaining the persistent cooling effect. This work establishes EMSO as a novel platform for exploring the dipolar Shastry-Sutherland system and for sub-Kelvin adiabatic demagnetization refrigeration.

Three-dimensional topological semimetal phase in layered TaNiTe5 probed by de Haas-van Alphen effect

Layered three-dimensional (3D) topological semimetals have attracted intensively attention due to the exotic phenomena and abundantly tunable properties. Here we report the experimental evidence for the 3D topological semimetal phase in layered material TaNiTe5 single crystals through quantum oscillations. Strong quantum oscillations have been observed with diamagnetism background in TaNiTe5. By analyzing the de Haas-van Alphen oscillations, multi-periodic oscillations were extracted, in content with magnetotransport measurements. Moreover, nontrivial "π" Berry phase with 3D Fermi surface is identified, indicating the topologically nontrivial feature in TaNiTe5. Additionally, we demonstrated the thin-layer of TaNiTe5 crystals is highly feasible by the mechanical exfoliation, which offers a platform to explore exotic properties in low dimensional topological semimetal and paves the way for potential applications in nanodevices.
