Discontinuity of a degenerating escape rate

We look at degenerating meromorphic families of rational maps on $\mathbb{P}^1$ -- holomorphically parameterized by a punctured disk -- and we provide examples where the bifurcation current fails to have a bounded potential in a neighborhood of the puncture. This is in contrast to the recent result of Favre-Gauthier that we always have continuity across the puncture for families of polynomials; and it provides a counterexample to a conjecture posed by Favre in 2016. We explain why our construction fails for polynomial families and for families of rational maps defined over finite extensions of the rationals $\mathbb{Q}$.

Nevanlinna theory and value distribution in the unicritical polynomials family

In the space $\mathbb{C}$ of the parameters $λ$ of the unicritical polynomials family $f(λ,z)=f_λ(z)=z^d+λ$ of degree $d>1$, we establish a quantitative equidistribution result towards the bifurcation current (indeed measure) $T_f$ of $f$ as $n\to\infty$ on the averaged distributions of all parameters $λ$ such that $f_λ$ has a superattracting periodic point of period $n$ in $\mathbb{C}$, with a concrete error estimate for $C^2$-test functions on $\mathbb{P}^1$. In the proof, not only complex dynamics but also a standard argument from the Nevanlinna theory play key roles.

Hyperbolic components of rational maps: Quantitative equidistribution and counting

Let $Λ$ be a quasi-projective variety and assume that, either $Λ$ is a subvariety of the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_d$ of degree $d$ rational maps, or $Λ$ parametrizes an algebraic family $(f_λ)_{λ\inΛ}$ of degree $d$ rational maps on $\mathbb{P}^1$. We prove the equidistribution of parameters having $p$ distinct neutral cycles towards the $p$-th bifurcation current letting the periods of the cycles go to $\infty$, with an exponential speed of convergence. We deduce several fundamental consequences of this result on equidistribution and counting of hyperbolic components. A key step of the proof is a locally uniform version of the quantitative approximation of the Lyapunov exponent of a rational map by the $\log^+$ of the modulus of the multipliers of periodic points.

Value distribution of the sequences of the derivatives of iterated polynomials

We establish the equidistribution of the sequence of the averaged pullbacks of a Dirac measure at any value in $\mathbb{C}\setminus\{0\}$ under the derivatives of the iterations of a polynomials $f\in\mathbb{C}[z]$ of degree more than one towards the $f$-equilibrium (or canonical) measure $μ_f$ on $\mathbb{P}^1$. We also show that for every $C^2$ test function on $\mathbb{P}^1$, the convergence is exponentially fast up to a polar subset of exceptional values in $\mathbb{C}$. A parameter space analog of the latter quantitative result for the monic and centered unicritical polynomials family is also established.

Adelically summable normalized weights and adelic equidistribution of effective divisors having small diagonals and small heights on the Berkovich projective lines

We introduce the notion of an adelically summable normalized weight $g$, which is a family of normalized weights on the Berkovich projective lines satisfying a summability condition. We then establish an adelic equidistribution of effective $k$-divisors on the projective line over the separable closure $k_s$ in $\overline{k}$ of a product formula field $k$ having small $g$-heights and small diagonals. This equidistribution result generalizes Ye's for the Galois conjugacy classes of algebraic numbers with respect to quasi-adelic measures.

Algebraic zeros divisors on the projective line having small diagonals and small heights and their application to adelic dynamics

We establish a quantitative adelic equidistribution theorem for a sequence of algebraic zeros divisors on the projective line over the separable closure of a product formula field having small diagonals and small $g$-heights with respect to an adelic normalized weight $g$ in arbitrary characteristic and in possibly non-separable setting, and obtain local proximity estimates between the iterations of a rational function $f\in k(z)$ of degree $>1$ and a rational function $a\in k(z)$ of degree $>0$ over a product formula field $k$ of characteristic $0$, applying this quantitative adelic equidistribution result to adelic dynamics of $f$.

Quantitative approximations of the Lyapunov exponent of a rational function over valued fields

We establish a quantitative approximation formula of the Lyapunov exponent of a rational function of degree more than one over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$ that is complete with respect to a non-trivial and possibly non-archimedean absolute value, in terms of the multipliers of periodic points of the rational function. This quantifies both our former convergence result over general fields and the one-dimensional version of Berteloot--Dupont--Molino's one over archimedean fields.

Equidistribution of rational functions having a superattracting periodic point towards the activity current and the bifurcation current

We establish an approximation of the activity current $T_c$ in the parameter space of a holomorphic family $f$ of rational functions having a marked critical point $c$ by parameters for which $c$ is periodic under $f$, i.e., is a superattracting periodic point. This partly generalizes a Dujardin--Favre theorem for rational functions having preperiodic points, and refines a Bassanelli--Berteloot theorem on a similar approximation of the bifurcation current $T_f$ of the holomorphic family $f$. The proof is based on a dynamical counterpart of this approximation.

Accumulation of periodic points for local uniformly quasiregular mappings

We consider accumulation of periodic points in local uniformly quasiregular dynamics. Given a local uniformly quasiregular mapping $f$ with a countable and closed set of isolated essential singularities and their accumulation points on a closed Riemannian manifold, we show that points in the Julia set are accumulated by periodic points. If, in addition, the Fatou set is non-empty and connected, the accumulation is by periodic points in the Julia set itself. We also give sufficient conditions for the density of repelling periodic points.

Adelic equidistribution, characterization of equidistribution, and a general equidistribution theorem in non-archimedean dynamics

We determine when the equidistribution property for possibly moving targets holds for a rational function of degree more than one on the projective line over an algebraically closed field of any characteristic and complete with respect to a non-trivial absolute value. This characterization could be useful in the positive characteristic case. Based on the variational argument, we give a purely local proof of the adelic equidistribution theorem for possibly moving targets, which is due to Favre and Rivera-Letelier, using a dynamical Diophantine approximation theorem by Silverman and by Szpiro--Tucker. We also give a proof of a general equidistribution theorem for possibly moving targets, which is due to Lyubich in the archimedean case and due to Favre and Rivera-Letelier for constant targets in the non-archimedean and any characteristic case and for moving targets in the non-archimedean and 0 characteristic case.

Equilibrium measures for uniformly quasiregular dynamics

We establish the existence and fundamental properties of the equilibrium measure in uniformly quasiregular dynamics. We show that a uniformly quasiregular endomorphism $f$ of degree at least 2 on a closed Riemannian manifold admits an equilibrium measure $μ_f$, which is balanced and invariant under $f$ and non-atomic, and whose support agrees with the Julia set of $f$. Furthermore we show that $f$ is strongly mixing with respect to the measure $μ_f$. We also characterize the measure $μ_f$ using an approximation property by iterated pullbacks of points under $f$ up to a set of exceptional initial points of Hausdorff dimension at most $n-1$. These dynamical mixing and approximation results are reminiscent of the Mattila-Rickman equidistribution theorem for quasiregular mappings. Our methods are based on the existence of an invariant measurable conformal structure due to Iwaniec and Martin and the $\cA$-harmonic potential theory.

Rescaling principle for isolated essential singularities of quasiregular mappings

We establish a rescaling theorem for isolated essential singularities of quasiregular mappings. As a consequence we show that the class of closed manifolds receiving a quasiregular mapping from a punctured unit ball with an essential singularity at the origin is exactly the class of closed quasiregularly elliptic manifolds, that is, closed manifolds receiving a non-constant quasiregular mapping from a Euclidean space.

Fekete configuration, quantitative equidistribution and wandering critical orbits in non-archimedean dynamics

Let $f$ be a rational function of degree $d>1$ on the projective line over a possibly non-archimedean algebraically closed field. A well-known process initiated by Brolin considers the pullbacks of points under iterates of $f$, and produces an important equilibrium measure. We define the asymptotic Fekete property of pullbacks of points, which means that they mirror the equilibrium measure appropriately. As application, we obtain an error estimate of equidistribution of pullbacks of points for $C^1$-test functions in terms of the proximity of wandering critical orbits to the initial points, and show that the order is $O(\sqrt{kd^{-k}})$ upto a specific exceptional set of capacity 0 of initial points, which is contained in the set of superattracting periodic points and the omega-limit set of wandering critical points from the Julia set or the presingular domains of $f$. As an application in arithmetic dynamics, together with a dynamical Diophantine approximation, these estimates recover Favre and Rivera-Letelier's quantitative equidistribution in a purely local manner.
