Effective Hamiltonian approach to the exact dynamics of open system by complex discretization approximation for environment

The discretization approximation method commonly used to simulate the dynamics of quantum system coupled to the environment in continuum often suffers from the periodically partial recovery of initial state because of the effect of finite dimension, dubbed the recurrence. To address this issue, we proposes a generalization of the discretization approximation method into the complex frequency space basing on complex Gauss quadratures. An effective Hamiltonian can be established by this way, which is non-Hermitian and demonstrates the complex energy modes with negative imaginary part, describing the dissipation of the system. This method is applied to examine the dynamics in two exactly solvable models, the dephasing model and the single-excitation dissipative dynamics in the Aubry-André-Harper model. By comparison with the exact numerics and analytical results, it is found that our approach not only significantly reduces the effect of recurrence and improve the effectiveness of calculation, but also provide a unique perspective into the dynamics of open system from the point of complex energy levels. Furthermore, we establish a simple relationship between the parameters in computation and the effectiveness of simulation by analyzing the computational error.

Effective Hamiltonian approach to the quantum phase transitions in the extended Jaynes-Cummings model

The study of phase transitions in dissipative quantum systems based on the Liouvillian is often hindered by the difficulty of constructing a time-local master equation when the system-environment coupling is strong. To address this issue, the complex discretization approximation for the environment is proposed to study the quantum phase transition in the extended Jaynes-Cumming model with an infinite number of boson modes. This approach yields a non-Hermitian effective Hamiltonian that can be used to simulate the dynamics of the spin. It is found that the ground state of this effective Hamiltonian determines the spin dynamics in the single-excitation subspace. Depending on the opening of the energy gap and the maximum population of excitations on the spin degree of freedom, three distinct phases can be identified: fast decaying, localized, and stretched dynamics of the spin. This approach can be extended to multiple excitations, and similar dynamics were found in the double-excitation subspace, indicating the robustness of the single-excitation phase.

A More Precise Extraction of |V_{cb}| in HQEFT of QCD

The more precise extraction for the CKM matrix element |V_{cb}| in the heavy quark effective field theory (HQEFT) of QCD is studied from both exclusive and inclusive semileptonic B decays. The values of relevant nonperturbative parameters up to order 1/m^2_Q are estimated consistently in HQEFT of QCD. Using the most recent experimental data for B decay rates, |V_{cb}| is updated to be |V_{cb}| = 0.0395 \pm 0.0011_{exp} \pm 0.0019_{th} from B\to D^{\ast} l νdecay and |V_{cb}| = 0.0434 \pm 0.0041_{exp} \pm 0.0020_{th} from B\to D l νdecay as well as |V_{cb}| = 0.0394 \pm 0.0010_{exp} \pm 0.0014_{th} from inclusive B\to X_c l νdecay.

HQEFT as A Large Component QCD and Comments on The Incompleteness of HQET

The Heavy quark effective field theory (HQEFT) is revisited in a more intuitive way. It is shown that HQEFT is a consistent large component QCD of heavy quarks. In the non-relativistic limit, HQEFT recovers the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD). The resulting new effects in the HQEFT of QCD are carefully reexamined. It is then natural to come to the comments on the usual heavy quark effective theory (HQET). Consistent phenomenological applications of HQEFT exhibit its interesting features and completeness in comparison with HQET. It then becomes manifest why we shall base on the HQEFT of QCD rather than HQET which is an incomplete one for computing 1/m_Q corrections. More precise extraction for |V_{cb}| and |V_{ub}| in the HQEFT of QCD is emphasized.

V_{ub}, V_{cb} and Decay Constants in Effective Field Theory of Heavy Quarks

A new framework of heavy quark effective field theory (HQEFT) is studied and compared with the usual heavy quark effective theory (HQET). $|V_{ub}|$, $|V_{cb}|$ and heavy meson decay constants are extracted in the new framework. HQEFT can yield reasonable results for both exclusive and inclusive decays.

|V_ub| and |V_cb|, Charm Counting and Lifetime Differences in Inclusive Bottom Hadron Decays

Inclusive bottom hadron decays are analyzed based on the heavy quark effective field theory (HQEFT). Special attentions in this paper are paid to the b\to u transitions and nonspectator effects. As a consequence, the CKM quark mixing matrix elements |V_ub| and |V_cb| are reliably extracted from the inclusive semileptonic decays B\to X_u e νand B\to X_c e ν. Various observables, such as the semileptonic branch ratio B_SL, the lifetime differences among B^-, B^0, B_s and Λ_b hadrons, the charm counting n_c, are predicted and found to be consistent with the present experimental data.

Inclusive Decays of Bottom Hadrons in New Formulation of Heavy Quark Effective Field Theory

We apply the new formulation of heavy quark effective field theory (HQEFT) to the inclusive decays of bottom hadrons. The long-term ambiguity of using heavy quark mass or heavy hadron mass for inclusive decays is clarified within the framework of the new formulation of HQEFT. The $1/m_b$ order corrections are absent and contributions from $1/m_b^2$ terms are calculated in detail. This enables us to reliably extract the important CKM matrix element $|V_{cb}|$ from the inclusive semileptonic decay rates. The resulting lifetime ratios $τ(B^0_s)/τ(B^0)$ and $τ(Λ_b)/τ(B^0)$ are found to well agree with the experimental data. We also calculate in detail the inclusive semileptonic branching ratios and the ratios of the $τ$ and $β$ decay rates as well as the charm countings in the $B^0$, $B^0_s$ and $Λ_b$ systems. For $B^0$ decays, all the observables are found to be consistent with the experimental data. More precise data for the $B^0$ decays and further experimental measurements for the $B^0_s$ and $Λ_b$ systems will be very useful for testing the framework of new formulation of HQEFT at the level of higher order corrections.

Weak Matrix Elements and |V_cb| in New Formulation of Heavy Quark Effective Field Theory

The heavy quark effective field theory (HQEFT) containing both effective `quark fields' and `antiquark fields' is investigated in detail. By integrating out (but not neglecting) the effective antiquark fields, we present a new formulation of effective theory which differs from the usual heavy quark effective theory (HQET) and exhibits valuable features because of the inclusion of the contributions from the antiquark fields. Matrix elements of vector and axial vector heavy quark currents between pseudoscalar and vector mesons containing a heavy quark (b or c) are then evaluated systematically up to the order of $1/m^2_Q$ and parameterized by a set of universal form factors. With a consistent normalization condition between the effective heavy hadron states, the form factors at zero recoil are related to the ground state meson masses, which enables us to estimate the values of form factors at zero recoil. In particular, the Luke's theorem comes out automatically in the new formulation of HQEFT without the need of imposing the equation of motion $iv\cdot D Q^{+}_{v} =0$. Consequently, the differential decay rates of both $B\to D^{\ast}lν$ and $B\to D lν$ do not receive $1/m_{Q}$ order corrections at zero recoil, which is not the case in the usual HQET. Thus we quote that the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $| V_{cb}|$ can nicely be extracted from either of these two exclusive semileptonic decays at the order of $1/m^2_Q$. Our estimates for $|V_{cb}|$ are presented.
