Asymptotic analysis of the Skyrmed monopole

We consider a variant of the Georgi Glashow model in the BPS limit, augmented by a higher derivative Skyrme-like term, which is the simplest YMH model that can support monopole bound states. The spherically symetric solutions are studied with a combination of analytic and numerical techniques, which strongly suggest that the solutions converge to a finite energy configuration in the limit of infinite coupling of the Skyrme-like term.

Remarks on bell-shaped lumps: stability and fermionic modes

We consider non-topological, "bell-shaped" localized and regular solutions available in some 1+1 dimensional scalar field theories. Several properties of such solutions are studied, namely their stability and the occurence of fermion bound states in the background of a kink and a kink-anti-kink solutions of the sine-Gordon model.

Five-dimensional rotating black holes in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory

We present arguments for the existence of five-dimensional rotating black holes with equal magnitude angular momenta in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory with negative cosmological constant. These solutions posses a regular horizon of spherical topology and approach asymptotically an Anti-de Sitter spacetime background. We discuss the general properties of these solutions and, using an adapted counterterm prescription, we compute their entropy and conserved charges.

On the stability of AdS black strings

We explore via linearized perturbation theory the Gregory-Laflamme instability of the black string solutions of Einstein's equations with negative cosmological constant recently discussed in literature. Our results indicate that the black strings whose conformal infinity is the product of time and $S^{d-3}\times S^1$ are stable for large enough values of the event horizon radius. All topological black strings are also classically stable. We argue that this provides an explicit realization of the Gubser-Mitra conjecture.

Operator ordering in Two-dimensional N=1 supersymmetry with curved manifold

We investigate an operator ordering problem in two-dimensional N=1 supersymmetric model which consists of n real superfields. There arises an operator ordering problem when the target space is curved. We have to fix the ordering in quantum operator properly to obtain the correct supersymmetry algebra. We demonstrate that the super-Poincaré algebra fixes the correct operator ordering. We obtain a supercurrent with correct operator ordering and a central extension of supersymmetry algebra.

Inflating branes inside topological defects and periodic structures

We study brane world models which contain local topological defects in the bulk and a (3+1)-dimensional inflating brane. We put the emphasis on new types of solutions that are periodic in the bulk radial coordinate and thus provide examples of "naturally compactified" brane worlds.

Magnetic solutions in AdS$_5$ and trace anomalies

We discuss black hole and black string solutions in d=5 Einstein-Yang-Mills theory with negative cosmological constant, proposing a method to compute their mass and action. The magnetic gauge field of these configurations does not vanish at infinity. We argue that this implies a nonvanishing trace for the stress tensor of the dual d=4 theory.

AdS$_5$ rotating non-Abelian black holes

We present arguments for the existence of charged, rotating black holes with equal magnitude angular momenta in $d=5$ Einstein-Yang-Mills theory with negative cosmological constant. These solutions posses a regular horizon of spherical topology and approach asymptotically the Anti-de Sitter spacetime background. The black hole solutions have also an electric charge and a nonvanishing magnetic flux through the sphere at infinity. Different from the static case, no regular solution with a nonvanishing angular momenta is found for a vanishing event horizon radius.

Twisted semilocal strings in the MSSM

The standard electroweak model is extended by means of a second Brout-Englert-Higgs-doublet. The symmetry breaking potential is chosen is such a way that (i) the Lagrangian possesses a custodial symmetry, (ii) a stationary, axially symmetric ansatz of the bosonic fields consistently reduces the Euler-Lagrange equations to a set of differential equations. The potential involves, in particular, a direct interaction between the two doublets. Stationary, axially-symmetric solutions of the classical equations are constructed. Some of them can be assimilated to embedded Nielsen-Olesen strings. From these solutions there are bifurcations and new solutions appear which exhibit the characteristics of the recently constructed twisted semilocal strings. A special emphasis is set on "doubly-twisted" solutions for which the two doublets present different time-dependent phase factors. They are regular and have a finite energy which can be lower than the energy of the embedded twisted solution. Electric-type solutions, such that the fields oscillate asymptotically far from the symmetry-axis, are also reported.

Charged-rotating black holes and black strings in higher dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory with a positive cosmological constant

We present arguments for the existence of charged, rotating black holes in $d=2N+1$ dimensions, with $d\geq 5$ with a positive cosmological constant. These solutions posses both, a regular horizon and a cosmological horizon of spherical topology and have $N$ equal-magnitude angular momenta. They approach asymptotically the de Sitter spacetime background. The counterpart equations for $d=2N+2$ are investigated, by assuming that the fields are independant of the extra dimension $y$, leading to black strings solutions. These solutions are regular at the event horizon. The asymptotic form of the metric is not the de Sitter form and exhibit a naked singularity at finite proper distance.

Euclidean solutions of Yang-Mills-dilaton theory

Classical solutions of the Yang-Mills-dilaton theory in Euclidean space-time are investigated. Our analytical and numerical results imply existence of infinite number of branches of dyonic type solutions labelled by the number of nodes of gauge field amplitude $W$. We find that the branches of solutions exist in finite region of parameter space and discuss this issue in detail in different dilaton field normalization.

PT-Symmetric, Quasi-Exactly Solvable matrix Hamiltonians

Matrix quasi exactly solvable operators are considered and new conditions are determined to test whether a matrix differential operator possesses one or several finite dimensional invariant vector spaces. New examples of $2\times 2$-matrix quasi exactly solvable operators are constructed with the emphasis set on PT-symmetric Hamiltonians.

Euclidean solutions of Yang-Mills theory coupled to a massive dilaton

The Euclidean version of Yang-Mills theory coupled to a massive dilaton is investigated. Our analytical and numerical results imply existence of infinite number of branches of globally regular, spherically symmetric, dyonic type solutions for any values of dilaton mass $m$. Solutions on different branches are labelled by the number of nodes of gauge field amplitude $W$. They have finite reduced action and provide new saddle points in the Euclidean path integral.

Non-abelian black strings and cosmological constant

We study the classical solutions of the Einstein-Yang-Mills model in five dimensions in the presence of a cosmological constant $Λ$. Using a spherically symmetric ansatz and assuming that the fields do not depend on the extra dimension, we transform the equations into a set of differential equations that we solve numerically. We construct new types of regular (resp. black holes) solutions which, close to the origin (resp. the event horizon) resemble the 4-dimensional gravitating monopole (resp. non abelian black hole) and study their global properties.

Black strings and solitons in five dimensional space-time with positive cosmological constant

We consider the classical equations of the Einstein-Yang-Mills model in five space-time dimensions and in the presence of a cosmological constant. We assume that the fields do not depend on the extra dimension and that they are spherically symmetric with respect to the three standard space dimensions. The equations are then transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations that we solve numerically. We construct new types of regular (resp. black holes) solutions which, close to the origin (resp. the event horizon) resemble the 4-dimensional gravitating monopole (resp. non abelian black hole) but exhibit an unexpected asymptotic behaviour.

Inflating Brane inside hyper-spherically symmetric defects

Static and inflating brane world models are considered in $4+n$-dimensions with a non zero bulk cosmological constant and with a hyper-spherically symmetric topological defect residing in the $n$ extra dimensions. Several vacuum solutions can be constructed explicitely when the bulk and inflating constants are non zero. We study how these solutions are deformed by the presence of a global monopole for generic values of $n$ and a local monopole for $n=3$. New types of solutions, regular and periodic in the radial variable relative to the extra dimensions, are constructed.

Inflating branes inside abelian strings

We study a 6-dimensional brane world model with an abelian string residing in the two extra dimensions. We study both static as well as inflating branes and find analytic solutions for the case of trivial matter fields in the bulk. Next to singular space-times, we also find solutions which are regular including cigar-like universes as well as solutions with periodic metric functions. These latter solutions arise if in a singular space-time a static brane is replaced by an inflating brane. We determine the pattern of generic solutions for positive, negative and zero bulk cosmological constant.

Kaluza-Klein black holes with squashed horizons and $d=4$ superposed monopoles

We present new solutions of the $d=5$ Einstein-Yang-Mills theory describing black holes with squashed horizons. These configurations are asymptotically locally flat and have a boundary topology of a fibre bundle $R\times S^1 \hookrightarrow S^{2}$. In a $d=4$ picture, they describe black hole solutions with both nonabelian and U(1) magnetic charges.
