The correlation between voids identified in 3D large-scale-structure and 2D weak-lensing maps

We investigate the correspondence between voids identified in the 3D halo distribution and those detected in WL convergence maps. We used 108 realizations of the full-sky lensing simulations, populated with a source galaxy redshift distribution consistent with the Dark Energy Survey Year 3 sample. Catalogs of 3D halo voids and WL voids were constructed using the VIDE and tunnel algorithms, respectively. The spatial association between the two populations was quantified by measuring the angular excess number density of halo voids around WL void centers. We detected a statistically significant (S/N >= 25) positive correlation between WL voids and low-redshift halo voids (0 < z_hv < 0.5) at small angular separations, indicating that WL voids trace genuine underdensities in the large-scale matter distribution. The correlation amplitude closely depends on the WL void selection scheme and decreases when stringent peak-amplitude thresholds are applied, thereby reducing the number of detected WL voids and broadening their effective sizes. The signal also displays a strong redshift dependence: halo voids at higher redshift exhibit weaker correlations because of the declining efficiency of the WL kernel, while WL voids identified from higher-redshift source bins produce stronger correlations due to the increased contribution from line-of-sight structures. We additionally examined the impact of halo-void morphology and found that rounder voids with a weaker alignment along the line of sight display marginally stronger associations with WL voids. Our results provide new insights into the contribution of 3D structure to WL-selected underdensities and offer guidance for future observational analyses seeking to interpret WL voids as tracers of the matter field.

SN 2025aico: Early observations of a faint Type IIb supernova with a low-mass envelope

We aimed to investigate the physical properties and the underlying explosion mechanisms of the Type IIb SN 2025aico. Through a comprehensive analysis of early-phase optical light curves and spectroscopic data, we aim to constrain the fundamental explosion parameters and evaluate the physical state of the event. We present early multi-band optical imaging and low-resolution optical spectroscopic follow-up observations of the Type IIb SN 2025aico, spanning approximately 70 days from the explosion. We constrain the properties of SN 2025aico by utilizing a hybrid model that combines shock-cooling emission and radioactively powered diffusion, as well as by analyzing the spectroscopic evolution. We use various approaches to constrain the 56Ni mixing from early data, and also compared our spectra with models to constrain the properties of the progenitor. The explosion epoch of SN 2025aico is estimated to be MJD 61032.69, while the rise time in the r_M-band is 22.30 +/- 0.70 days. The peak pseudo-bolometric luminosity in the optical bands is L_opt = (4.07 +/- 0.10) x 10^41 erg/s. The fitting yields a moderate to relatively low 56Ni mass of M_Ni = 0.033 +0.006/-0.004 M_sun and an ejecta mass of M_ej = 2.79 +0.21/-0.18 M_sun. The photospheric velocity near the bolometric peak, measured from the Fe II lambda 5169 line, is 6450 +180/-160 km/s. The derived envelope properties suggest a compact He-star progenitor possessing an H-rich envelope of M_env approx. 0.01 M_sun and a radius of R_env approx. 6-10 R_sun. The derived physical properties of SN 2025aico indicate an origin from a moderate-mass, stripped He-star in a compact binary system, characterized by a minimal residual hydrogen envelope. The explosion itself demonstrates weak to moderate 56Ni mixing throughout the ejecta.

Quantum tomography of free electrons

Determining the quantum state of a given quantum-mechanical system is a fundamental task in physics. Quantum-state tomography has been pivotal for establishing quantum optics [1-4] and for revealing the properties of bound charges in materials [5-7]. An emerging other object for studying and utilizing quantum effects are free electrons, elementary particles that are central to high-resolution microscopy [8,9], electron-based quantum optics [10-17], ul-trafast electron microscopy [18-24] and particle accelerators [25-27]. However, free electrons are intrinsically incoherent, and we lack a broadly applicable method to measure and control their quantum state beyond special cases with discrete energy sidebands [28,29]. Here, we report a universal approach to measure arbitrary free-electron quantum states in continuous variables. Two monochromatic but spectrally shifted laser waves produce interfering quan-tum paths that directly reveal the density matrix and thus all essential properties of the pure wavepackets, the ensemble, and their interlinks. As a first application, we show how the quantum state of a single electron is modified by many-body Coulomb interactions of a sur-rounding electron gas. The reported concepts and results provide insight into otherwise hid-den correlations in electron beams and enable the controlled optimization of exceptional quantum states for free-electron quantum optics or quantum electron microscopy.

Energy Correlators Within Jets in Transversely Polarized Proton-Proton Collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 200$ GeV

We report the first measurement of one- and two-point energy correlators within jets in transversely polarized proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV, using the STAR detector at RHIC. These observables quantify the energy-weighted angular distribution of single hadrons and hadron pairs within jets, respectively. Sizable spin-dependent asymmetries are observed for $\pi^+$, $\pi^-$, and $\pi^+\pi^-$ pairs, revealing the onset of nonperturbative dynamics at specific angular scales. By projecting the fragmentation dynamics onto Mellin moments, these measurements provide sensitivity to the nucleon's transversity while minimizing uncertainties from nonperturbative fragmentation functions. These results establish energy correlators as a novel and precise probe of nucleon structure and open a promising avenue for three-dimensional nucleon tomography at the future Electron-Ion Collider.

Inclusive jet cross section in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 200$ and $510$ GeV

Jets are collimated clusters of particles formed by the hadronization of partons following a hard interaction. In proton-proton ($pp$) collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), jet production is dominated by $gg$ and $qg$ partonic processes, allowing us to directly probe the gluon parton distribution function (PDF) in the proton in a way complementary to deep inelastic scattering. In this paper, we report the double-differential inclusive-jet cross sections as a function of jet transverse momentum, $p_{\rm T}$, and pseudorapidity, $\eta$, at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s} = 200$ and $510$~GeV, from $pp$ collisions studied with the STAR detector. The jet $p_{\rm T}$ is corrected for underlying event contributions by applying an off-axis cone method. At mid-pseudorapidity, $|\eta| < 0.9$, the kinematic coverage of our data extends to $0.07 < x_{\rm T} \text{ (}= 2p_{\rm T}{} / \sqrt{s} \text{)} < 0.5$ and $0.03 < x_{\rm T} < 0.31$ at $\sqrt{s} = 200$~and 510 GeV, respectively, where the gluon PDF is poorly constrained by the TeV-scale $pp$~($p\bar{p}$) colliders. The inclusive jet cross sections are compared to the next-to-next-to-leading order perturbative quantum chromodynamics calculations using several recent PDF sets as inputs. These results will further constrain the gluon PDF, help tune Monte Carlo generators, and provide critical reference data needed to study the quark-gluon plasma.

Simultaneous Multi-band Optical Follow-up Observations of a Gamma-Ray Flare in BL Lacertae

On $2024$ October $5$, BL Lacertae ($2200+420$) experienced one of its brightest gamma-ray flares. We conducted simultaneous follow-up observations in the $u$, $v$, $g$, $r$, $i$, and $z$ bands from $2024$ October $17$ to November $21$ using the Mephisto telescope and its two $50$ cm twin auxiliary photometric telescopes of Yunnan University. Intraday variability (IDV) was detected in the $g$, $r$, $i$, and $z$ bands. The IDV duty cycle increased with observing frequency across these bands. The shortest variability time-scale, derived from auto-correlation analysis, constrains the upper limit of the black hole mass to be $M_{\bullet} \lesssim 10^{8.29} M_{\odot}$ assuming a Kerr black hole, and $M_{\bullet} \lesssim 10^{8.77} M_{\odot}$ assuming a Schwarzschild black hole. The emission region responsible for the observed variability has a size of $R \le 3.51 \times 10^{14}$ cm and is located at a distance of $R_H \le 2.83 \times 10^{15}$ cm from the central supermassive black hole. This distance is approximately three orders of magnitude smaller than the typical radius of the broad-line region, indicating that the emission region lies well within it. A general bluer-when-brighter (BWB) trend was detected on intraday time-scales, suggesting that shock-accelerated relativistic electrons enhance the high-energy particle population, leading to spectral hardening. A potential quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) with a period of $\sim 100.77$ minutes was detected with $>99.99$ per cent confidence, consistent with predictions from the magnetic reconnection model. These observed optical intraday variabilities and colour variations of BL Lacertae can be well explained by the turbulent jet model.

Probing Late-Stage Hadronic Interactions at High Baryon Density via $K^{*0}$ Production in the RHIC Beam Energy Scan Program

A precision measurement of the $K^{*0}$ meson yield is reported in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 7.7,\; 11.5,\; 14.6,\; 19.6,$ and $27~\mathrm{GeV}$ using the high-statistics data sample collected by the STAR experiment during the Beam Energy Scan II (BES-II) program at RHIC. The transeverse momentum ($p_{T}$)-integrated yield ratios $(K^{*0} + \overline{K^{*0}})/(K^{+} + K^{-})$ in central collisions show a suppression relative to peripheral collisions at the $(1.7\text{-}3.6)\,\sigma$ level, while a thermal model without final-stage rescattering overpredicts this ratio with a deviation of $(6.9\text{-}8.2)\,\sigma$. These results indicate a loss of the measured $K^{*0}$ signal in central collisions due to re-scattering of its hadronic decay products in the hadronic phase. The $p_{T}$-integrated yield of charged kaons exhibits an approximate scaling with charged-particle multiplicity, independent of collision energy and system size. A similar trend is observed for the short-lived $K^{*0}$ resonance, although significant deviations emerge at lower energies. At BES energies, the $K^{*0}/K$ ratio shows stronger suppression than at the highest RHIC and LHC energies within a given multiplicity bin, particularly in central and mid-central collisions. This behavior is consistent with changes in the effective hadronic interaction cross section and is supported by transport model calculations, which indicate dominant meson-baryon interactions at lower energies and meson-meson interactions at higher energies.

Identified charged hadron production in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$ = 54.4 GeV with the STAR detector

We present results on the production of $\pi^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$, $p$, and $\bar{p}$ in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$ = 54.4~GeV using the STAR detector at RHIC, at midrapidity ($|y| <$ 0.1). Invariant yields of these particles as a function of transverse momentum are shown. We determine bulk properties such as integrated particle yields ($dN/dy$), mean transverse momentum ($\langle p_{T} \rangle$), particle ratios, which provide insight into the particle production mechanisms. Additionally, the kinetic freezeout parameters ($T_\text{kin}$ and $\langle \beta_{T} \rangle$), which provide information about the dynamics of the system at the time of freezeout, are obtained. The Bjorken energy density ($\epsilon_{\rm{BJ}}$), which gives an estimate of the energy density in the central rapidity region of the collision zone at the formation time $\tau$, is calculated and presented as a function of multiplicity for various energies. The results are compared with those from the models such as A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) and Heavy Ion Jet INteraction Generator (HIJING) for further insights.

Measurement of the hyperon weak radiative decay $\Xi^0\to\gamma\Sigma^0$ at BESIII

The hyperon weak radiative decay $\Xi^0\to\gamma\Sigma^0$ is measured via the process $J/\psi\to\Xi^0\bar\Xi^0$. The absolute branching fraction of $\Xi^0\to\gamma\Sigma^0$ is determined to be $(3.69\pm 0.21_{\text{stat}}\pm0.12_{\text{syst}})\times 10^{-3}$, based on $(10.087\pm 0.044)\times 10^{9}$ $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The decay asymmetry parameter is measured, with a complete angular analysis of the cascade decay chain, to be $\alpha_{\gamma} = -0.807\pm 0.095_{\text{stat}}\pm 0.011_{\text{syst}}$.

Study of Central Exclusive Production of $\pi^+\pi^-$, $K^+K^-$ and $p \bar{p}$ Pairs in Proton-Proton Collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 510$ GeV with the STAR Detector at RHIC

We report on the first measurement of the Central Exclusive Production process in proton-proton collisions: $pp \ \rightarrow \ p h^+ h^- p$ (where $h = \pi, K, p$) at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 510$ GeV with the STAR experiment at RHIC. At this energy, the process is dominated by a double Pomeron exchange mechanism. Hence, it provides a clean environment for investigating Pomeron interactions by measuring fully reconstructed final states involving only two hadrons and two forward scattered protons. The oppositely charged hadron pairs are measured within the central detector of STAR. The forward scattered protons are measured in the Roman Pot system allowing the verification of the event's exclusivity. Differential fiducial cross sections within the STAR acceptance are presented as a function of the difference in the azimuthal angle between the outgoing protons. The invariant masses of the charged hadron pairs are measured up to approximately 3 GeV and the square of the four-momentum transfer ($t_1$ and $t_2$) of the two forward-scattered protons in the range $0.3 \text{ GeV}^2 < -t_1 , -t_2 < 1.6 \text{ GeV}^2$. The differential fiducial cross sections of the forward protons as a function of the $|t_1 + t_2|$ are also presented. All results for the $\pi^+\pi^-$ pair are presented in three mass ranges. A comparison with GRANIITTI Monte Carlo predictions are also presented, where the spectra include continuum and resonant contributions. The observed spectra are consistent with double Pomeron exchange, including resonances seen in previous studies.

Measurement of transverse polarization of $\Lambda$ and $\bar{\Lambda}$ hyperons inside jets in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV

A surprisingly large transverse polarization of $\Lambda$ hyperons in unpolarized hadron-nucleon/nucleus collisions has been observed for 50 years, and the origin of this polarization remains an important open question. Recently, theoretical frameworks have advanced in describing this puzzle with the polarizing fragmentation function (PFF). We report the first measurement of $\Lambda$ and $\overline{\Lambda}$ transverse polarization inside jets in unpolarized proton-proton collisions, which is directly attributed to the PFF. The polarization is measured as a function of the jet transverse momentum, the fraction of the jet momentum carried by $\Lambda$($\overline{\Lambda}$) hyperons, and the transverse momentum of $\Lambda(\overline{\Lambda})$ hyperons relative to the jet axis. Covering a wide jet-energy range, these data provide the first constraints on the gluon PFF and allow tests of TMD evolution and its universality.

Observation of charmonium sequential suppression in heavy-ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider

We report measurements of charmonium sequential suppression in Ru+Ru and Zr+Zr collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm {NN}}}$ = 200 GeV with the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The inclusive yield ratio of $\psi$(2S) to J/$\psi$ as a function of transverse momentum is reported, along with the centrality dependence of the double ratio, defined as the $\psi$(2S) to J/$\psi$ ratio in heavy-ion collisions relative to that in $p$+$p$ collisions. In the 0-80% centrality class, the double ratio is found to be 0.41 $\pm$ 0.10 (stat) $\pm$ 0.03 (syst) $\pm$ 0.02 (ref), lower than unity with a significance of 5.6 standard deviations. This provides experimental evidence that $\psi$(2S) is significantly more suppressed than J/$\psi$ in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC. This sequential suppression pattern seems to increase from peripheral to central collisions, but with no significant dependence on the transverse momentum.

Discovery and Analysis of Afterglows from Poorly Localised GRBs with the Gravitational-wave Optical Transient Observer (GOTO) All-sky Survey

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), particularly those detected by wide-field instruments such as the Fermi/GBM, pose a challenge for optical follow-up due to their large initial localisation regions, leaving many GRBs without identified afterglows. The Gravitational-wave Optical Transient Observer (GOTO), with its wide field of view, dual-site coverage, and robotic rapid-response capability, bridges this gap by rapidly identifying and localising afterglows from alerts issued by space-based facilities, including Fermi, SVOM, Swift, and EP, providing early optical positions for coordinated multiwavelength follow-up. In this paper, we present optical afterglow localisation and multiband follow-up of five Fermi/GBM (240619A, 240910A, 240916A, 241002B, and 241228B) and two MAXI/GSC (240122A and 240225B) triggered long GRBs (LGRBs) discovered by GOTO in 2024. Spectroscopy for six GRBs (no spectroscopic data for GRB 241002B) with VLT/X-shooter and GTC/OSIRIS yields precise redshifts spanning $z\approx0.40-$3.16 and absorption-line diagnostics of host and intervening systems. Radio detections for four events confirm the presence of long-lived synchrotron emission. Prompt-emission analysis with Fermi and MAXI data reveals a spectrally hard population, with two bursts lying $>3\sigma$ above the Amati relation. Although their optical afterglows resemble those of typical LGRBs, the prompt spectra are consistently harder than the LGRBs' average. Consistent modelling of six GOTO-discovered GRB afterglows yields jet half-opening angles of a few degrees and beaming-corrected kinetic energies ($E_{jet}\sim10^{51-52}$)erg, consistent with the canonical LGRB population. These findings suggest that optical discovery of poorly localised GRBs may be subject to observational biases favouring luminous events with high spectral peak energy, while also providing insight into jet microphysics and central engine diversity.

Measurement of Born Cross Sections and Effective Form Factors of $e^+e^-\to \Omega^{-}\bar{\Omega}^{+}$ from$\sqrt{s}$ = 3.7 to 4.7 GeV

Using $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 22.7 fb$^{-1}$, collected at center-of-mass energies between 3.7 and 4.7 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, we measure the energy-dependent Born cross sections of $e^+e^-\to \Omega^{-}\bar{\Omega}^+$ and the effective form factors of the $\Omega^-$ baryon. The analysis employs a single baryon tagging method, and the results are consistent with theoretical predictions, providing critical constraints on the electromagnetic structure of the $\Omega^-$ hyperon. No significant signal of charmonium or charmonium-like states decaying to $\Omega^{-}\bar{\Omega}^+$ is observed in the investigated energy range.

Measurement of branching fractions of $\Lambda_{c}^{+}$ decays to $\Sigma^{+} \eta$ and $\Sigma^{+} \eta'$

By analyzing $e^+e^-$ collision data taken at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $\rm 4.5~fb^{-1}$, we study the hadronic decays $\Lambda_{c}^{+} \rightarrow \Sigma^{+} \eta$ and $\Lambda_{c}^{+} \rightarrow \Sigma^{+} \eta^{\prime}$ using the single-tag method. The branching fraction ratio of $\Lambda_{c}^+ \rightarrow \Sigma^+ \eta$ relative to $\Lambda_{c}^+ \rightarrow \Sigma^+ \pi^0$ is determined to be $0.305 \pm 0.046_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.007_{\rm syst.}$, and that of $\Lambda_{c}^+ \rightarrow \Sigma^+ \eta'$ relative to $\Lambda_{c}^+ \rightarrow \Sigma^+ \omega $ is $0.336 \pm 0.094_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.037_{\rm syst.}$. The ratio of $\frac{\mathcal{B}\left(\Lambda_{c}^{+} \rightarrow \Sigma^{+} \eta'\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left(\Lambda_{c}^{+} \rightarrow \Sigma^{+} \eta\right)} $ is determined to be $1.73 \pm 0.22_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.16_{\rm syst.}$. These results enrich our knowledge of charmed baryon decays.

Test of local realism via entangled $\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ system

The non-locality of quantum correlations is a fundamental feature of quantum theory. The Bell inequality serves as a benchmark for distinguishing between predictions made by quantum theory and local hidden variable theory (LHVT). Recent advancements in photon-entanglement experiments have addressed potential loopholes and have observed significant violations of variants of Bell inequality. However, examples of Bell inequalities violation in high energy physics are scarce. In this study, we utilize $(10.087\pm0.044)\times10^{9}$ $J/\psi$ events collected with the BES-III detector at the BEPCII collider, performing non-local correlation tests using the entangled hyperon pairs. The massive-entangled $\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ systems are formed and decay through strong and weak interactions, respectively. Through measurements of the angular distribution of $p\bar{p}$ in $J/\psi\to \gamma\eta_c$ and subsequent $\eta_c\to\Lambda(p\pi^-)\bar\Lambda(\bar{p}\pi^{+})$ cascade decays, a significant violation of LHVT predictions is observed. The exclusion of LHVT is found to be statistically significant at a level exceeding $5.2\sigma$ in the testing of three Bell-like inequalities.

Partial Wave Analysis of $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}J/\psi$ and Cross Section Measurement of $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow \pi^{\pm}Z_{c}(3900)^{\mp}$ from 4.1271 to 4.3583 GeV

Based on 12.0 $\mathrm{fb^{-1}}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data samples collected by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies from 4.1271 to 4.3583 GeV, a partial wave analysis is performed for the process $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}J/\psi$. The cross sections for the sub processes ${e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\pi^{+}Z_{c}(3900)^{-}+c.c.\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}J/\psi}$, $f_{0}(980)(\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-})J/\psi$, and $(\pi^{+}\pi^{-})_{\rm{S\mbox{-}wave}} J/\psi$ are measured for the first time. The mass and width of the $Z_{c}(3900)^{\pm}$ are determined to be $3884.6\pm0.7\pm3.3$ MeV/$c^{2}$ and $37.2\pm1.3\pm6.6$ MeV, respectively. The first errors are statistical and the second systematic. The final state $(\pi^{+}\pi^{-})_{\rm{S\mbox{-}wave}} J/\psi$ dominates the process $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}J/\psi$. By analyzing the cross sections of $\pi^{\pm}Z_{c}(3900)^{\mp}$ and $f_{0}(980)J/\psi$, $Y(4220)$ has been observed. Its mass and width are determined to be $4225.7\pm4.1\pm3.4$ MeV/$c^{2}$ and $57.5\pm9.4\pm12.1$ MeV, respectively.
