Systematic studies of binding energy dependence of neutron - proton momentum correlation function

Hanbury Brown-Twiss (HBT) results of the neutron-proton correlation function have been systematically investigated for a series nuclear reactions with light projectiles with help of Isospin-Dependent Quantum Molecular Dynamics model. The relationship between the binding energy per nucleon of the projectiles and the strength of the neutron-proton HBT at small relative momentum has been obtained. Results show that neutron-proton HBT results are sensitive to the binding energy per nucleon.

Based on the intermediate energy radioactive Ion Beam Line in Lanzhou (RIBLL) of Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL) and Low Energy Radioactive Ion Beam Line (GIRAFFE) of Beijing National Tandem Accelerator Lab (HI13), the radioactive ion beam physics and nuclear astrophysics will be researched in detail. The key scientific problems are: the nuclear structure and reaction for nuclear far from $β$-stability line; the synthesize of new nuclides near drip lines and new super heavy nuclides; the properties of asymmetric nuclear matter with extra large isospin and some nuclear astro- reactions.

Statistical nature of cluster emission in nuclear liquid-vapour phase coexistence

The emission of nuclear clusters is investigated within the framework of isospin dependent lattice gas model and classical molecular dynamics model. It is found that the emission of individual cluster which is heavier than proton is almost Poissonian except near the transition temperature at which the system is leaving the liquid-vapor phase coexistence and the thermal scaling is observed by the linear Arrhenius plots which is made from the average multiplicity of each cluster versus the inverse of temperature in the liquid vapor phase coexistence. The slopes of the Arrhenius plots, {\it i.e.} the "emission barriers", are extracted as a function of the mass or charge number and fitted by the formula embodied with the contributions of the surface energy and Coulomb interaction. The good agreements are obtained in comparison with the data for low energy conditional barriers. In addition, the possible influences of the source size, Coulomb interaction and "freeze-out" density and related physical implications are discussed.

Scale-free download network for publications

The scale-free power-law behavior of the statistics of the download frequency of publications has been, for the first time, reported. The data of the download frequency of publications are taken from a well-constructed web page in the field of economic physics (http://www.unifr.ch/econophysics/). The Zipf-law analysis and the Tsallis entropy method were used to fit the download frequency. It was found that the power-law exponent of rank-ordered frequency distribution is $γ\sim 0.38 \pm 0.04$ which is consistent with the power-law exponent $α\sim 3.37 \pm 0.45$ for the cumulated frequency distributions. Preferential attachment model of Barabasi and Albert network has been used to explain the download network.

Isoscaling in the Lattice Gas Model

The isoscaling behavior is investigated using the isotopic/isobaric yields from the equilibrated thermal source which is prepared by the lattice gas model for lighter systems with A = 36. The isoscaling parameters $α$ and -$β$ are observed to drop with temperature. The difference of neutron and proton chemical potential shows a turning point around 5 MeV where the liquid gas phase transition occurs in the model. The relative free neutron or proton density shows a nearly linear relation with the N/Z (neutron to proton ratio) of system and the isospin fractionation is observed.

Exploring binding energy and separation energy dependences of HBT strength

Hanbury Brown-Twiss (HBT) results of the nucleon-nucleon correlation function have been presented for the nuclear reactions with neutron-rich projectiles (Be isotopes) using an event-generator, the Isospin-Dependent Quantum Molecular Dynamics model. We explore that the relationship between the binding energy per nucleon of the projectiles and the strength of the neutron-proton HBT at small relative momentum. Moreover, we reveal the relationship between the single neutron separation energy and the strength of the halo neutron-proton HBT. Results show that neutron-proton HBT results are sensitive to binding energy or separation energy.

A proposed reaction channel for the synthesis of the superheavy nucleus Z = 109

We apply a statistical-evaporation model (HIVAP) to calculate the cross sections of superheavy elements, mainly about actinide targets and compare with some available experimental data. A reaction channel $^{30}$Si + $^{243}$Am is proposed for the synthesis of the element Z = 109 and the cross section is estimated.

Reaction Dynamics and Multifragmentation in Fermi Energy Heavy Ion Reactions

The reaction systems, 64Zn + 58Ni, 64Zn + 92Mo, 64Zn + 197Au, at 26A, 35A and 47A MeV, have been studied both in experiments with a 4$π$ detector array, NIMROD, and with Antisymmetrized Molecular Dynamics model calculations employing effective interactions corresponding to soft and stiff equations of state (EOS). Direct experimental observables, such as multiplicity distributions, charge distributions, energy spectra and velocity spectra, have been compared in detail with those of the calculations and a reasonable agreement is obtained. The velocity distributions of $α$ particles and fragments with Z >= 3 show distinct differences in calculations with the soft EOS and the stiff EOS. The velocity distributions of $α$ particle and Intermediate Mass Fragments (IMF's) are best described by the stiff EOS. Neither of the above direct observables nor the strength of the elliptic flow are sensitive to changes in the in-medium nucleon-nucleon (NN) cross sections. A detailed analysis of the central collision events calculated with the stiff EOS revealed that multifragmentation with cold fragment emission is a common feature predicted for all reactions studied here. A possible multifragmentation scenario is presented; after the preequilibrium emission ceases in the composite system, cold light fragments are formed in a hotter gas of nucleons and stay cold until the composite system underdoes multifragmentation. For reaction with 197Au at 47A MeV a significant radial expansion takes place. For reactions with 58Ni and 92Mo at 47A MeV semi-transparency becomes prominent. The differing reaction dynamics drastically change the kinematic characteristics of emitted fragments. This scenario gives consistent explanations for many existing experimental results in the Fermi energy domain.

Evidence of Critical Behavior in the Disassembly of Nuclei with A ~ 36

A wide variety of observables indicate that maximal fluctuations in the disassembly of hot nuclei with A ~ 36 occur at an excitation energy of 5.6 +- 0.5 MeV/u and temperature of 8.3 +- 0.5 MeV. Associated with this point of maximal fluctuations are a number of quantitative indicators of apparent critical behavior. The associated caloric curve does not appear to show a flattening such as that seen for heavier systems. This suggests that, in contrast to similar signals seen for liquid-gas transitions in heavier nuclei, the observed behavior in these very light nuclei is associated with a transition much closer to the critical point.

$Δ$-scaling and Information Entropy in Ultra-Relativistic Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions

The $Δ$-scaling method has been applied to ultra-relativistic p+p, C+C and Pb+Pb collision data simulated using a high energy Monte Carlo package, LUCIAE 3.0. The $Δ$-scaling is found to be valid for some physical variables, such as charged particle multiplicity, strange particle multiplicity and number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions from these simulated nucleus-nucleus collisions over an extended energy ranging from $E_{lab}$ = 20 to 200 A GeV. In addition we derived information entropy from the multiplicity distribution as a function of beam energy for these collisions.

Total Reaction Cross Section in an Isospin-Dependent Quantum Molecular Dynamics (IDQMD) Model

The isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IDQMD) model is used to study the total reaction cross section $σ_R$. The energy-dependent Pauli volumes of neutrons and protons have been discussed and introduced into the IDQMD calculation to replace the widely used energy-independent Pauli volumes. The modified IDQMD calculation can reproduce the experimental $σ_R$ well for both stable and exotic nuclei induced reactions. Comparisons of the calculated $σ_R$ induced by $^{11}Li$ with different initial density distributions have been performed. It is shown that the calculation by using the experimentally deduced density distribution with a long tail can fit the experimental excitation function better than that by using the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock calculated density without long tails. It is also found that $σ_R$ at high energy is sensitive to the long tail of density distribution.

The calculation of total reaction cross sections induced by intermediate energy $α$-particles with BUU Model

The Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (BUU) Model, which includes the Fermi motion, the mean field, individual nucleon-nucleon (N-N) interactions and the Pauli blocking effect etc., is used to calculate the total reaction cross section $σ_R$ induced by $α$-particles on different targets in the incident energy range from 17.4 to 48.1 MeV/u. The calculation result can reproduce the experimental data well. The nucleus-nucleus interaction radius parameter $r_0$ was extracted from experimental $σ_R$. It is found that $r_0$ becomes constant with increasing the mass number of target.

Sequential Decay Distortion of Goldhaber Model Widths for Spectator Fragments

Momentum widths of the primary fragments and observed final fragments have been investigated within the framework of an Antisymmetrized Molecular Dynamics transport model code (AMD-V) with a sequential decay afterburner (GEMINI). It is found that the secondary evaporation effects cause the values of a reduced momentum width, $σ_0$, derived from momentum widths of the final fragments to be significantly less than those appropriate to the primary fragment but close to those observed in many experiments. Therefore, a new interpretation for experiemental momentum widths of projectile-like fragments is presented.

Cluster Emission and Phase Transition Behavior in the Nuclear Disassembly

The features of the emissions of light particles ($LP$), charged particles ($CP$), intermediate mass fragments ($IMF$) and the largest fragment ($MAX$) are investigated for $^{129}Xe$ as functions of temperature and "freeze-out" density in the frameworks of isospin dependent lattice gas model and classical molecular dynamics model. Definite turning points for the slopes of average multiplicity of $LP$, CP and $IMF$, and of the mean mass of the largest fragment ($A_{max}$) are shown around a liquid gas phase transition temperature and while the largest variances of the distributions of $LP$, $CP$, $IMF$, and $MAX$ appear there. It indicates that the cluster emission rate can be taken as a probe of nuclear liquid gas phase transition and while the largest fluctuation is simultaneously accompanied at the point of the phase transition within lattice gas model and molecular dynamics model as the traditional thermodynamical theory requires when a phase transition occurs.

Directed and Elliptic Flow in $^{112}$Sn + $^{112}$Sn Collisions below 100 MeV/nucleon

The directed and elliptic flow in collisions of $^{112}Sn$ + $^{112}Sn$ at energies from 35 to 90 MeV/nucleon were studied in an isospin-dependent quantum molecule dynamics model (IQMD). With increasing incident energy, the directed flow rises from the negative flow to the positive flow. Its magnitude depends on the nuclear equation of state (EOS). However, the elliptic flow shows decrease with increasing incident energy and its magnitude is not very sensible to EOS. Systematic studies of the impact parameter dependence and cluster mass dependence were also performed. The study of directed flow at intermediate energies thus provides a means to extract the information on the nuclear equation of state.

Poissonian reducibility and thermal scaling within the lattice gas model and molecular dynamics model

The emission of clusters in the nuclear disassembly is investigated within the framework of isospin dependent lattice gas model and classical molecular dynamics model. As observed in the recent experimental data, it is found that the emission of individual cluster is poissonian and thermal scaling is observed in the linear Arrhenius plots made from the average multiplicity of each cluster. The mass, isotope and charge dependent "emission barriers" are extracted from the slopes of the Arrhenius plots and their possible physical implications are investigated.

Zipf's Law in the Liquid Gas Phase Transition of Nuclei

Zipf's law in the field of linguistics is tested in the nuclear disassembly within the framework of isospin dependent lattice gas model. It is found that the average cluster charge (or mass) of rank $n$ in the charge (or mass) list shows exactly inversely to its rank, i.e., there exists Zipf's law, at the phase transition temperature. This novel criterion shall be helpful to search the nuclear liquid gas phase transition experimentally and theoretically. In addition, the finite size scaling of the effective phase transition temperature at which the Zipf's law appears is studied for several systems with different mass and the critical exponents of $ν$ and $β$ are tentatively extracted.
