Fluctuations of the Initial Conditions and the Continuous Emission in Hydrodynamic Description of Two-Pion Interferometry

Within hydrodynamic approach, we study the Bose-Einstein correlation of identical pions by taking into account both event-by-event fluctuating initial conditions and continuous pion emission during the whole development of the hot and dense matter formed in high-energy collisions. Considerable deviations occur, compared to the usual hydro calculations with smooth initial conditions and a sudden freeze-out on a well defined hypersurface. Comparison with data at RHIC shows that, despite rather rough approximation we used here, this description can give account of the $m_T$ dependence of $R_L$ and $R_s$ and improves considerably the one for $R_o$ with respect to the usual version.

Observables and initial conditions for self-similar ellipsoidal flows

Single-particle spectra and two-particle Bose-Einstein correlation functions are determined analytically utilizing a self-similar solution of non-relativistic hydrodynamics for ellipsoidally-symmetric, expanding fireballs, by assuming that the symmetry axes of the ellipsoids are tilted in the frame of the observation. The directed, elliptic and third flows are calculated analytically. The mass dependences of the slope parameters in the principal directions of the expansion, together with the mass and angular dependences of the HBT radius parameters, reflect directly the ellipsoidal properties of the flow.

Incident-Energy Dependence of the Effective Temperature in Heavy-Ion Collisions

We study the behaviour of the effective temperature for K$^+$ in several energy domains. For this purpose, we apply the recently developed SPheRIO code for hydrodynamics in 3+1 dimensions, using both Landau-type compact initial conditions and spatially more spread ones. We show that initial conditions given in small volume, like Landau-type ones, are unable to reproduce the effective temperature together with other data (multiplicities and rapidity distributions). These quantities can be reproduced altogether only when using a large initial volume with an appropriate velocity distribution.

Particle abundances and spectra in the hydrodynamical description of relativistic nuclear collisions with light projectiles

We show that a hydrodynamical model with continuous particle emission instead of sudden freeze out may explain both the observed strange particle and pion abundances and transverse mass spectra for light projectile at SPS energy. We found that the observed enhancement of pion production corresponds, within the context of continuous emission, to the maximal entropy production.

Simple solutions of relativistic hydrodynamics for systems with ellipsoidal symmetry

Simple, self-similar, analytic solutions of (1+3)-dimensional relativistic hydrodynamics are presented for ellipsoidally symmetric finite fireballs corresponding to non-central collisions of heavy ions at relativistic bombarding energies. The hydrodynamical solutions are obtained for a new, general family of equations of state with the possibility of describing phase transitions.

Simple solutions of relativistic hydrodynamics for longitudinally and cylindrically expanding systems

Simple, self-similar, analytic solutions of 1 + 1 dimensional relativistic hydrodynamics are presented, generalizing the Hwa - Bjorken boost-invariant solution to inhomogeneous rapidity distributions. These solutions are generalized also to 1 + 3 dimensional, cylindrically symmetric firetubes, corresponding to central collisions of heavy ions at relativistic bombarding energies.

On freeze-out problem in hydro-kinetic approach to A+A collisions

A new method for evaluating spectra and correlations in the hydrodynamic approach is proposed. It is based on an analysis of Boltzmann equations (BE) in terms of probabilities for constituent particles to escape from the interacting system. The conditions of applicability of Cooper-Frye freeze-out prescription are considered within the method. The results are illustrated with a non-relativistic exact solution of BE for expanding spherical fireball as well as with approximate solutions for ellipsoidally expanding ones.

An attempt to incorporate separate chemical and thermal freeze outs in hydrodynamics

From an analysis of various types of data obtained in relativistic nuclear collisions, the following picture has emerged in thermal and hydrodynamical descriptions: as the fluid expands and cools, particles first undergo a chemical freeze out at T_ch.~160-200 MeV then a thermal freeze out at T_th~100-140 MeV. In this paper we show how to incorporate these separate freeze outs consistently in a hydrodynamical code via a modified equation of state (general case) or via a modified Cooper-Frye formula (particular case of T_ch. close to T_th. or few particle species undergoing early chemical freeze-out). The modified equation of state causes faster cooling and may have sizable impact on the predicted values of observables.

Event-by-event fluctuations in hydrodynamical description of heavy-ion collisions

Effects caused by the event-by-event fluctuation of the initial conditions in hydrodynamical description of high-energy heavy-ion collisions are investigated. Non-negligible effects appear for several observable quantities, even for a fixed impact parameter $\vec b $. They are sensitive to the equation of state, being the dispersions of the observable quantities in general smaller when the QGP phase appears at the beginning of hydrodynamic evolution than when the fluid remains hadron gas during whole the evolution.

Squeezed Fermions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Colliders

Large back-to-back correlations of observable fermion -- anti-fermion pairs are predicted to appear, if the mass of the fermions is modified in a thermalized medium. The back-to-back correlations of protons and anti-protons are experimentally observable in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions, similarly to the Andreev reflection of electrons off the boundary of a superconductor. While quantum statistics suppresses the probability of observing pairs of fermions with nearby momenta, the fermionic back-to-back correlations are positive and of similar strength to bosonic back-to-back correlations.

Event-by-event analysis of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions in smoothed particle hydrodynamics

The method of smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) is applied for ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The SPH method has several advantages in studying event-by-event fluctuations, which attract much attention in looking for quark gluon plasma (QGP) formation, because it gives a rather simple scheme for solving hydrodynamical equations. Using initial conditions for Au+Au collisions at RHIC energy produced by NeXus event generator, we solve the hydrodynamical equation in event-by-event basis and study the fluctuations of hadronic observables such as dN/dy due to the initial conditions. In particular, fluctuations of elliptic flow coefficient v2 is investigated for both the cases, with and without QGP formation. This can be used as an additional test of QGP formation.

Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics for Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

The method of smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) is developped appropriately for the study of relativistic heavy ion collision processes. In order to describe the flow of a high energy but low baryon number density fluid, the entropy is taken as the SPH base. We formulate the method in terms of the variational principle. Several examples show that the method is very promising for the study of hadronic flow in RHIC physics.

Freeze-out in hydrodynamical models in relativistic heavy ion collisions

Freeze-out of particles across 3-dimensional space-time hypersurface with space-like normal is discussed in a simple kinetic model. The final momentum distribution of emitted particles shows a non-exponential transverse momentum spectrum, which is in quantitative agreement with recently measured SPS pion and $h^-$ spectra.

Large $p_t$ enhancement from freeze out

Freeze out of particles across three dimensional space-time hypersurface is discussed in a simple kinetic model. The final momentum distribution of emitted particles, for freeze out surfaces with space-like normal, shows a non-exponential transverse momentum spectrum. The slope parameter of the $p_t$ distribution increases with increasing $p_t$, in agreement with recently measured SPS pion and $h^-$ spectra.

Coulomb Effect: A Possible Probe for the Evolution of Hadronic Matter

Electromagnetic field produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions contains much useful information, because the field can be directly related to the motion of the matter in the whole stage of the reaction. One can divide the total electromagnetic field into three parts, i.e., the contributions from the incident nuclei, non-participating nucleons and charged fluid, the latter consisting of strongly interacting hadrons or quarks. Parametrizing the space-time evolution of the charged fluid based on hydrodynamic model, we study the development of the electromagnetic field which accompanies the high-energy heavy-ion collisions. We found that the incident nuclei bring a rather strong electromagnetic field to the interaction region of hadrons or quarks over a few fm after the collision. On the other hand, the observed charged hadrons' spectra are mostly affected (Coulomb effect) by the field of the charged fluid. We compare the result of our model with experimental data and found that the model reproduces them well. The pion yield ratio pi^-/pi+ at a RHIC energy, Au+Au 100+100 GeV/nucleon, is also predicted.

Kinetic freeze out

Freeze out of particles across a space-time hypersurface is discussed in kinetic models. The calculation of final momentum distribution of emitted particles is described for freeze out surfaces, with spacelike normals. The resulting non-equilibrium distribution does not resemble, the previously proposed, cut Juttner distribution, and shows non-exponential p_t-spectra similar to the ones observed in experiments.
