Existence and non-existence of minimal graphs

We study the Dirichlet problem for minimal surface systems in arbitrary dimension and codimension via mean curvature flow, and obtain the existence of minimal graphs over arbitrary mean convex bounded $C^2$ domains for a large class of prescribed boundary data. This result can be seen as a natural generalization of the classical sharp criterion for solvability of the minimal surface equation by Jenkins-Serrin. In contrast, we also construct a class of prescribed boundary data on just mean convex domains for which the Dirichlet problem in codimension 2 is not solvable. Moreover, we study existence and the uniqueness of minimal graphs by perturbation.

Minimal graphs of arbitrary codimension in Euclidean space with bounded 2-dilation

For any $Λ>0$, let $\mathcal{M}_{n,Λ}$ denote the space containing all locally Lipschitz minimal graphs of dimension $n$ and of arbitrary codimension $m$ in Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{n+m}$ with uniformly bounded 2-dilation $Λ$ of their graphic functions. In this paper, we show that this is a natural class to extend structural results known for codimension one. In particular, we prove that any tangent cone $C$ of $M\in\mathcal{M}_{n,Λ}$ at infinity has multiplicity one. This enables us to get a Neumann-Poincar$\mathrm{\acute{e}}$ inequality on stationary indecomposable components of $C$. A corollary is a Liouville theorem for $M$. For small $Λ>1$(we can take any $Λ<\sqrt{2}$), we prove that (i) for $n\leq7$, $M$ is flat; (2) for $n>8$ and a non-flat $M$, any tangent cone of $M$ at infinity is a multiplicity one quasi-cylindrical minimal cone in $\mathbb{R}^{n+m}$ whose singular set has dimension $\leq n-7$.

Detection of gamma-ray emission from globular clusters M 15, NGC 6397, NGC 5904, NGC 6218 and NGC 6139 with Fermi-LAT

In the third Fermi catalogue (3FGL) there are sixteen gamma-ray globular clusters. After analyzing the recent released Pass 8 data of Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT), we report the discovery of significant gamma-ray emission from M 15 and NGC 6397, confirm that NGC 5904 is a gamma-ray emitter and find evidence of gamma-ray emission from NGC 6218 and NGC 6139. Inter- estingly, in the globular clusters M 15, NGC 6397 and NGC 5904, millisecond pulsars (MSPs) have been found in radio or X-rays, which are strongly in support of the MSP origin of the gamma-ray emission. However, due to the relative low luminosity of the gamma-ray emission we do not find any evidence for the gamma-ray pulsation or flux variability of these sources.

Submanifolds with constant Jordan angles

To study the Lawson-Osserman's counterexample to the Bernstein problem for minimal submanifolds of higher codimension, a new geometric concept, submanifolds in Euclidean space with constant Jordan angles(CJA), is introduced. By exploring the second fundamental form of submanifolds with CJA, we can characterize the Lawson-Osserman's cone from the viewpoint of Jordan angles.

The translating soliton of mean curvature flow

We study some basic problems of translating solitons: the volume growth, generalized maximum principle, Gauss maps and certain functions related to the Gauss maps, finally we carry out point-wise estimates and integral estimates for the squared norm of the second fundamental form. Those estimates give rigidity theorems for translating solitons in the Euclidean space in higher codimension.

A spherical Bernstein theorem for minimal submanifolds of higher codimension

Combining the tools of geometric analysis with properties of Jordan angles and angle space distributions, we derive a spherical and a Euclidean Bernstein theorem for minimal submanifolds of arbitrary dimension and codimension, under the condition that the Gauss image is contained in some geometrically defined closed region of a Grassmannian manifold. The proof depends on the subharmoncity of an auxiliary function, the Codazzi equations and geometric measure theory.

Minimal graphic functions on manifolds of non-negative Ricci curvature

We study minimal graphic functions on complete Riemannian manifolds $\Si$ with non-negative Ricci curvature, Euclidean volume growth and quadratic curvature decay. We derive global bounds for the gradients for minimal graphic functions of linear growth only on one side. Then we can obtain a Liouville type theorem with such growth via splitting for tangent cones of $\Si$ at infinity. When, in contrast, we do not impose any growth restrictions for minimal graphic functions, we also obtain a Liouville type theorem under a certain non-radial Ricci curvature decay condition on $\Si$. In particular, the borderline for the Ricci curvature decay is sharp by our example in the last section.

Volume growth, eigenvalue and compactness for self-shrinkers

In this paper, we show an optimal volume growth for self-shrinkers, and estimate a lower bound of the first eigenvalue of $\mathcal{L}$ operator on self-shrinkers, inspired by the first eigenvalue conjecture on minimal hypersurfaces in the unit sphere by Yau \cite{SY}. By the eigenvalue estimates, we can prove a compactness theorem on a class of compact self-shrinkers in $\ir{3}$ obtained by Colding-Minicozzi under weaker conditions.

Some results on space-like self-shrinkers

We study space-like self-shrinkers of dimension $n$ in pseudo-Euclidean space $\ir{m+n}_m$with index $m$. We derive drift Laplacian of the basic geometric quantities and obtain their volume estimates in pseudo-distance function. Finally, we prove a rigidity results under minor growth conditions interms of the mean curvature or the image of Gauss maps.

The Rigidity Theorems of Self Shrinkers via Gauss maps

We study the rigidity results for self-shrinkers in Euclidean space by restriction of the image under the Gauss map. The geometric properties of the target manifolds carry into effect. In the self-shrinking hypersurface situation Theorem 3.1 and Theorem 3.2 not only improve the previous results, but also are optimal. In higher codimensional case, using geometric properties of the Grassmanian manifolds (the target manifolds of the Gauss map) we give a rigidity theorem for self-shrinking graphs.

The rigidity theorems for Lagrangian self shrinkers

By the integral method we prove that any space-like entire graphic self-shrinking solution to Lagrangian mean curvature flow in $\R^{2n}_{n}$ with the indefinite metric $\sum_i dx_idy_i$ is flat. This result improves the previous ones in \cite{HW} and \cite{CCY} by removing the additional assumption in their results. In a similar manner, we reprove its Euclidean counterpart which is established in \cite{CCY}.

The geometry of Grassmannian manifolds and Bernstein type theorems for higher codimension

We identify a region $\Bbb{W}_{\f{1}{3}}$ in a Grassmann manifold $\grs{n}{m}$, not covered by a usual matrix coordinate chart, with the following important property. For a complete $n-$submanifold in $\ir{n+m} \, (n\ge 3, m\ge2)$ with parallel mean curvature whose image under the Gauss map is contained in a compact subset $K\subset\Bbb{W}_{\f{1}{3}}\subset\grs{n}{m}$, we can construct strongly subharmonic functions and derive a priori estimates for the harmonic Gauss map. While we do not know yet how close our region is to being optimal in this respect, it is substantially larger than what could be achieved previously with other methods. Consequently, this enables us to obtain substantially stronger Bernstein type theorems in higher codimension than previously known.

The rigidity theorems of self shrinkers

By using certain idea developed in minimal submanifold theory we study rigidity problem for self-shrinkers in the present paper. We prove rigidity results for squared norm of the second fundamental form of self-shrinkers, either under point-wise conditions or under integral conditions.

Some results on Chern's problem

For a compact minimal hypersurface $M$ in $S^{n+1}$ with the squared length of the second fundamental form $S$ we confirm that there exists a positive constant $\de(n)$ depending only on $n,$ such that if $n\leq S\leq n +δ(n)$, then $S\equiv n$, i.e., $M$ is a Clifford minimal hypersurface, in particular, when $n\ge 6,$ the pinching constant $\de(n)=\f{n}{23}.$
