Nuclear landscape based on point-coupling density functional with localized exchange terms

Nuclear landscape is initially explored in the framework of relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory under the spherical approximation, adopting the newly developed PCF-PK1 density functional. The functional effectively incorporates exchange terms via the Fierz transformation and explicitly includes the tensor coupling. We analyze the limits of the nuclear landscape and nuclear ground state properties including binding energies, charge radii, α-decay energies, compared with other functionals and experiment. In the present calculations, 7210 nuclei are predicted to be bound with the root-mean-square deviation of binding energies 7.170 MeV. The removal of spurious shell closure at Z = 58 and 92 is discussed by shell gaps and single-particle spectra. For superheavy nuclei, potential magic numbers beyond 208Pb are studied. The inclusion of the tensor coupling in PCF-PK1 helps restore the pseudospin symmetry, leading to a less pronounced shell closure at Z = 120.

Nuclear structure of dripline nuclei elucidated through precision mass measurements of $^{23}$Si, $^{26}$P, $^{27,28}$S, and $^{31}$Ar

Using the B$ρ$-defined isochronous mass spectrometry technique, we report the first determination of the $^{23}$Si, $^{26}$P, $^{27}$S, and $^{31}$Ar masses and improve the precision of the $^{28}$S mass by a factor of 11. Our measurements confirm that these isotopes are bound and fix the location of the proton dripline in P, S, and Ar. We find that the mirror energy differences of the mirror-nuclei pairs $^{26}$P-$^{26}$Na, $^{27}$P-$^{27}$Mg, $^{27}$S-$^{27}$Na, $^{28}$S-$^{28}$Mg, and $^{31}$Ar-$^{31}$Al deviate significantly from the values predicted assuming mirror symmetry. In addition, we observe similar anomalies in the excited states, but not in the ground states, of the mirror-nuclei pairs $^{22}$Al-$^{22}$F and $^{23}$Al-$^{23}$Ne. Using $ab~ initio$ VS-IMSRG and mean field calculations, we show that such a mirror-symmetry breaking phenomeon can be explained by the extended charge distributions of weakly-bound, proton-rich nuclei. When observed, this phenomenon serves as a unique signature that can be valuable for identifying proton-halo candidates.

Unconventional Pressure Dependent Interorbital and Interlayer Doping in Superconducting Nickelates

The discovery of nickelate superconductivity provided the first example of a non-copper-based material with superconductivity strongly analogous to the cuprates, but recent findings raise questions and inconsistencies around the electron counts and doping phase diagrams. We show using superconducting La$_4$Ni$_3$O$_{10}$ that there are unconventional interlayer and interorbital intrinsic doping effects that render the $d_{x^2-y^2}$ orbital occupation similar to the cuprates. The results enable a consistent framework for nickelate superconductivity, while maintaining the connection between cuprate and nickelate superconductors.

CrRhAs: a member of a large family of metallic kagome antiferromagnets

Kagome lattice materials are an important platform for highly frustrated magnetism as well as for a plethora of phenomena resulting from flat bands, Dirac cones and van Hove singularities in their electronic structures. We study the little known metallic magnet CrRhAs, which belongs to a vast family of materials that include $3d$, $4f$ and $5f$ magnetic elements, as well as numerous nonmagnetic metals and insulators. Using noncollinear spin density functional calculations (mostly spin spirals), we extract a model magnetic Hamiltonian for CrRhAs. While it is dominated by an antiferromagnetic second nearest neighbor coupling in the kagome plane, the metallic nature of the compound leads to numerous nonzero longer range couplings and to important ring exchange terms. We analyze this Hamiltonian and find unusual ground states which are dominated by nearly isolated antiferromagnetic triangles that adopt 120$^\circ$ order either with positive or with negative vector chirality. We discuss the connection to the few known experimental facts about CrRhAs. Finally, we give a brief survey of other interesting magnetic members of this family of kagome compounds.

Role of Hydrogen in the Electronic Properties of CaFeAsH-based Superconductors

The electronic and magnetic properties of the new hydride superconductor CaFeAsH, which superconducts up to 47 K when electron-doped with La, and the isovalent alloy system CaFeAsH$_{1-x}$F$_x$ are investigated using density functional based methods. The $\vec Q = (π,π,0)$ peak of the nesting function $ξ(\vec q)$ is found to be extremely strong and sharp, and additional structure in $ξ(\vec q)$ associated with the near-circular Fermi surfaces (FSs) that may impact low energy excitations is quantified. The unusual band introduced by H, which shows strong dispersion perpendicular to the FeAs layers, is shown to be connected to a peculiar van Hove singularity just below the Fermi level. This band provides a three dimensional electron ellipsoid Fermi surface not present in other Fe-based superconducting materials nor in CaFeAsF. Electron doping by 25\% La or Co has minor affect on this ellipsoid Fermi surface, but suppresses FS nesting strongly, consistent with the viewpoint that eliminating strong nesting and the associated magnetic order allows high T$_c$ superconductivity to emerge. Various aspects of the isovalent alloy system CaFeAsH$_{1-x}$F$_x$ and means of electron doping are discussed in terms of influence of incipient bands.

Superdipole Liquid Scenario for the Dielectric Primary Relaxation in Supercooled Polar liquids

We propose a dynamic structure of coupled dynamic molecular strings for supercooled small polar molecule liquids and accordingly we obtain the Hamiltonian of the rotational degrees of freedom of the system. From the Hamiltonian, the strongly correlated supercooled polar liquid state is renormalized to a normal superdipole (SD) liquid state. This scenario describes the following main features of the primary or a-relaxation dynamics in supercooled polar liquids: (1) the average relaxation time evolves from a high temperature Arrhenius to a low temperature non-Arrhenius or super-Arrhenius behavior; (2) the relaxation function crosses over from the high temperature exponential to low temperature non-exponential form; and (3) the temperature dependence of the relaxation strength shows non-Curie features. According to the present model, the crossover phenomena of the first two characteristics arise from the transition between the superdipole gas and the superdipole liquid. The model predictions are quantitatively compared with the experimental results of glycerol, a typical glass-former.

The mechanical relaxation study of polycrystalline MgCNi3

The mechanical relaxation spectra of a superconducting and a non-superconducting MgCNi3 samples were measured from liquid nitrogen temperature to room temperature at frequency of kilohertz. There are two internal friction peaks (at 300 K labeled as P1 and 125 K as P2) for the superconducting sample. For the non-superconducting one, the position of P1 shifts to 250 K, while P2 is almost completely depressed. It is found that the peak position of P2 shifts towards higher temperature under higher measuring frequency. The calculated activation energy is 0.13eV. We propose an explanation relating P2 to the carbon atom jumping among the off-center positions. And further we expect that the behaviors of carbon atoms maybe correspond to the normal state crossovers around 150 K and 50 K observed by many other experiments.
