Interior skin focusing and directional mirror transfer in a graded non-Hermitian Krawtchouk network

Spatially graded nonreciprocity can move skin weight away from a boundary, but it does not generally preserve a real commensurate spectrum or analytically controlled dynamics. We study a finite open Krawtchouk network with oppositely graded directed hoppings. For a broad intermediate range of asymmetries, their local imaginary gauge field changes sign in the bulk, and its accumulated coordinate generates a positive diagonal similarity map whose normalized squared entries form a biased-binomial envelope. The same map converts the open chain into the spin-rotation generator \(2gJ_x\), so the focus and equally spaced spectrum follow from one grading. In this focusing regime, exact right, left, and biorthogonal eigenvectors show that the envelope width and participation number both scale as \(\sqrt N\), identifying a subextensive interior focus. In the physical node basis, spin rotation produces perfect mirror inversion with direction-selective amplification and attenuation whose gains are mutually inverse. The directional Green functions share their poles, while their residues differ by the same similarity ratio. Closing the chain exposes a gauge-invariant imaginary flux, and either exact one-way limit yields an exceptional point of order \(N\). Onsite disorder preserves the directional resolvent ratio, whereas independent hopping disorder breaks the clean analytic Krawtchouk map and degrades commensurability and transfer. The model therefore provides an exactly solvable finite-network framework linking localization geometry and eigenvector nonorthogonality to commensurate spectra and node-resolved directional response.

Remote Flux Refocuses Nonadiabatic Excursions in Compact-State Quantum Transfer

Compact states embedded in a propagating band can carry quantum information, but finite-time transfer can populate modes outside their subspace. We show that a remote flux can refocus this amplitude without changing the transfer states or the motion-induced coupling out of their subspace. In a resonator ring, this separation is exact because both endpoints of the flux-bearing bond are nodes of every compact transfer state. For the same pulse, zero and refocusing flux both produce substantial excursions, but only the latter yields near-complete logical transfer. Interference between matrix amplitudes associated with different windings suppresses the endpoint error. Under matched control bounds, numerical optimization yields higher worst-input fidelity at the refocusing flux, providing a route to accurate transfer through coherent return.

Graded hopping screens nonreciprocity and reorganizes Stark asymptotics in a non-Hermitian Stark chain

We study a one-dimensional non-Hermitian Stark chain in which nonreciprocal hopping, a linear potential, and linearly graded hopping act simultaneously. The central question is how boundary pumping and field-induced confinement are reorganized when the hopping amplitude itself grows with position. We show that the graded term separates the two localization channels at the level of the large-position asymptotics. An exact diagonal similarity transformation removes the bond asymmetry and converts the usual exponential skin factor into an algebraic boundary accumulation with exponent $η=γ/F_2$. The transformed symmetric chain then reduces asymptotically to a constant-coefficient recurrence, giving the Stark threshold $|F_1|=2|F_2|$. The original right eigenstates acquire the unified envelope $ψ_j^R\sim j^ηϕ_j$, with oscillatory, double-root, and exponentially localized branches across the threshold. This form also yields two finite-size scales, one measuring the logarithmic screening of nonreciprocity and the other balancing the algebraic skin factor against the exponential Stark tail. A joint localization map in the $(γ,F_1/F_2)$ plane verifies this structure. The edge polarization bends near the Stark threshold and weakens on the localized side, while the inverse participation ratio of the most localized eigenstates rises rapidly for $F_1/F_2>2$. Using a normalized Gaussian projector appropriate for non-unitary evolution, we further show that the same threshold enhances half-chain entanglement growth after a charge-density-wave quench. These results identify graded hopping as a controlled mechanism for screening nonreciprocity, resetting Stark asymptotics, and organizing the finite-size crossover between algebraic skin accumulation and Stark localization.

Commissioning and Full Realization of the PLASEN System at BRIF

A PLASEN (Precision LAser Spectroscopy for Exotic Nuclei) system, consisting of a compact radio-frequency quadrupole cooler-buncher (RFQ-cb) and a collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy setup, has now been fully commissioned with radioactive ion beams at the Beijing Radioactive Ion-beam Facility (BRIF). Using both stable and radioactive Rb ion beams from BRIF, we demonstrated that the large beam energy spread observed at BRIF has been successfully handled by employing the RFQ-cb, enabling the delivery of high-quality bunched radioactive ion beams for collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy experiments. Under these conditions, we performed laser spectroscopy of exotic nuclei, achieving high resolution (about 100 MHz spectral linewidth) and high sensitivity (up to 1:200 efficiency). This fully operational PLASEN system will serve as a state-of-the-art experimental platform at BRIF for research in multiple fields such as nuclear, atomic and molecular physics.

Integrability Breaking and Coherent Dynamics in Hermitian and Non-Hermitian Spin Chains with Long-Range Coupling

Unraveling the mechanisms of ergodicity breaking in complex quantum systems is a central pursuit in nonequilibrium physics. In this work, we investigate a one-dimensional spin model featuring a tunable long-range hopping term, $H_{n}$, which introduces nonlocal interactions and bridges the gap between Hermitian and non-Hermitian regimes. Through a systematic analysis of level-spacing statistics, Krylov complexity, and entanglement entropy, we demonstrate that $H_{n}$ acts as a universal control parameter driving the transition from integrability to quantum chaos. Specifically, increasing the strength of $H_{n}$ induces a crossover from Poissonian to Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble statistics in the Hermitian limit, and similarly triggers chaotic dynamics in the non-Hermitian case. Most remarkably, despite the onset of global chaos, we identify a tower of exact nonthermal eigenstates that evade thermalization. These states survive as robust quantum many-body scars, retaining low entanglement and coherent dynamics even under strong non-Hermitian perturbations. Our findings reveal a universal mechanism by which long-range and non-Hermitian effects reshape quantum ergodicity, offering new pathways for preserving quantum coherence in complex many-body systems.

Development and Characterization of a High-Resolution and High-Sensitivity Collinear Resonance Ionization Spectroscopy Setup

With the recent implementation of a radio-frequency quadrupole (RFQ) cooler-buncher and a multi-step laser resonance ionization technique, our previously developed collinear laser spectroscopy setup has been successfully upgraded into a fully functional collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy system. The new system was fully characterized using a bunched ion beam at 30~keV, during which hyperfine structure spectra of $^{85,87}$Rb isotopes were measured. An overall efficiency exceeding 1:200 (one resonant ion detected for every 200 ions after the RFQ cooler-buncher) was achieved while maintaining a spectral resolution of 100 MHz. Under these conditions, the extracted hyperfine structure parameters and isotope shift for $^{85,87}$Rb show excellent agreement with the literature values. These results demonstrate the system's capability to perform high-resolution and high-sensitivity laser spectroscopy of neutron-rich Rb isotopes, which are expected to be produced at the Beijing Radioactive Ion-beam Facility at a rate of approximately 100 particles per second.

The out-of-plane magnetoresistance in a Van der Waals thin film of WTe2

We report the magneto-transport measurements of thin film devices of the topological Weyl semimetal WTe2 with the applied current along and vertical to the in-plane directions. The device is composed of a Van der Waals thin film of WTe2 sandwiched between top and bottom Au electrodes. At low temperatures, we found a large unsaturated in-plane magnetoresistance and a saturated out-of-plane magnetoresistance when the external magnetic fields are applied perpendicular to the plane. By analysis of Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations, one oscillation peak is found in the out-of-plane magnetoresistance, in contrast to four oscillation peaks in the in-plane magnetoresistance. Our work provides new insight into the origin of the unsaturated magnetoresistance in WTe2 and may inspire non-planar engineering to reach higher integration in spintronics.

The $σ_{\rm Hβ}$-based dimensionless accretion rate and its connection with the corona for AGN

With respect to the $\rm Hβ$ full width at half-maximum ($\rm FWHM_{Hβ}$), the broad $\rm Hβ$ line dispersion ($σ_{\rm Hβ}$) was preferred as a velocity tracer to calculate the single-epoch supermassive black hole mass ($M_{\rm BH}$) suggested by \cite{Yu2020b}. For a compiled sample of 311 broad-line active galactic nuclei (AGN) with measured hard X-ray photon index ($z<0.7$), $σ_{\rm Hβ}$ and the optical Fe II relative strength ($R_{\rm Fe}$) are measured from their optical spectra, which are used to calculate $σ_{\rm Hβ}$-based virial $M_{\rm BH}$ and dimensionless accretion rate ($\dot{\mathscr{M}}$). With respect to $\rm FWHM_{\rm Hβ}$, it is found that the mean value of $σ_{\rm Hβ}$-based $M_{\rm BH}$ is on average larger by 0.26 dex, and the mean value of $σ_{\rm Hβ}$-based $\dot{\mathscr{M}}$ is on average smaller by 0.51 dex. It is found that there exists a non-linear relationship between the Eddington ratio ($L_{\rm Bol}/L_{\rm Edd}$) and $\dot{\mathscr{M}}$, i.e., $L_{\rm Bol}/L_{\rm Edd} \propto \dot{\mathscr{M}}^{0.56\pm 0.01}$. This non-linear relationship comes from the accretion efficiency $η$, which is smaller for AGN with higher $\dot{\mathscr{M}}$. We find a strong bivariate correlation of the fraction of energy released in the corona $F_{\rm X}$ with $\dot{\mathscr{M}}$ and \mbh, $F_{\rm X} \propto \dot{\mathscr{M}}^{-0.57\pm 0.05} M_{\rm BH}^{-0.54\pm 0.06}$. The flat slope of $-0.57\pm 0.05$ favours the shear stress tensor of the accretion disk being proportional to the geometric mean of gas pressure and total pressure. We find a strong bivariate relation of $Γ$ with $\dot{\mathscr{M}}$ and $F_{\rm X}$, $Γ\propto \dot{\mathscr{M}}^{-0.21\pm 0.02}F_{\rm X}^{0.02\pm 0.04}$. The hard X-ray spectrum becomes softer with increasing of $F_{\rm X}$, although the scatter is large.

Construction and commissioning of the collinear laser spectroscopy system at BRIF

We have constructed a collinear laser spectroscopy (CLS) system installed at the Beijing Radioactive Ion-beam Facility (BRIF), aiming to investigate the nuclear properties of unstable nuclei. The first on-line commissioning experiment of this system was performed using the continuous stable ($^{39}$K) and unstable ($^{38}$K) ion beams produced by impinging a 100-MeV proton beam on a CaO target. Hyperfine structure spectra of these two isotopes are reasonably reproduced, and the extracted magnetic dipole hyperfine parameters and isotope shift agree with the literature values. The on-line experiment demonstrates the overall functioning of this CLS system, opening new opportunities for laser spectroscopy measurement of unstable isotopes at BRIF and other radioactive ion beam facilities in China.

Vacancy Effects on Electric and Thermoelectric Properties of Zigzag Silicene Nanoribbons

We study the crystal reconstruction in the presence of monovacancies (MVs), divacancies (DVs) and linear vacancies (LVs) in a zigzag silicene nanoribbon (ZSiNR) with transversal symmetry. Their influence on the electric and thermoelectric properties is assessed by the density functional theory combined with the nonequilibrium Green's functions. In particular, we focus on the spin resolved conductance, magnetoresistance and current-voltage curves. A 5-atom-ring is formed in MVs, a 5-8-5 ring structure in DVs, and a 8-4-8-4 ring structure in LVs. The linear conductance becomes strongly spin dependent when the transversal symmetry is broken by vacancies especially if they are located on the ribbon's edges. The giant magnetoresistance can be smeared by asymmetric vacancies. Single spin negative differential resistance may appear in the presence of LVs and asymmetric MVs or DVs. A strong spin Seebeck effect is expected at room temperature in ZSiNRs with LVs.

Spin-dependent ballistic transport properties and electronic structures of pristine and edge-doped zigzag silicene nanoribbons: large magnetoresistance

The electronic structure and conductance of substitutionally edge-doped zigzag silicene nanoribbons (ZSiNRs) are investigated using the nonequilibrium Green's function method combined with the density functional theory. Two-probe systems of ZSiNRs in both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic states are considered. Doping effects of elements from groups III and V, in a parallel or antiparallel magnetic configuration of the two electrodes, are discussed. Switching on and off the external magnetic field, we may convert the metallic ferromagnetic ZSiNRs into insulating antiferromagnetic ZSiNRs. In the ferromagnetic state, even- or odd-width ZSiNRs exhibit a drastically different magnetoresistance. In an odd-width edge-doped ZSiNR a large magnetoresistance occurs compared to that in a pristine ZSiNR. The situation is reversed in even-width ZSiNRs. These phenomena result from the drastic change of the conductance in the antiparallel configuration.

Giant magnetoresistance and spin Seebeck coefficient in zigzag a-graphyne nanoribbons

We investigate the spin-dependent electric and thermoelectric properties of ferromagnetic zigzag-graphyne nanoribbons (ZGNRs) using the density-functional theory combined with the non-equilibrium Green's function method. A giant magnetoresistance is obtained in the pristine even-width ZGNRs and can be as high as 10e6 %. However, for the doped systems, a large magnetoresistance behavior may appear in the odd-width ZGNRs rather than the even-width ones. This suggests that the magnetoresistance can be manipulated in a wide range by the dopants on edges of ZGNRs. Another interesting phenomenon is that in the B- and N-doped even-width ZGNRs the spin Seebeck coefficient is always larger than the charge Seebeck coefficient, and a pure-spin-current thermospin device can be achieved at specific temperatures.

Influence of itinerancy on the magnetic properties of the single crystals of Sr2YRu1-xCuxO6 solid solutions

X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS) Ru L-edge and O K-edge measurements on single crystals of Sr2YRu1-xCuxO6 (x=0.01-0.05) solid solutions show that Cu replaces Ru in the lattice which results in a lattice distortion and itinerant holes that increase with increasing x. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements confirm the lattice distortion through changes in the lattice parameters. Magnetic measurements reveal an antiferromagnetic transition at 32 K in the crystals with x=0 and a diamagnetic transition at 32 K for x \geq 0.01indicative of superconductivity in the zero field cooled (ZFC) curves. The field cooled (FC) curves show a weak ferromagnetic character with x=0 and a ferromagnetic transition at 30 K and an antiferromagnetic transition at 23 K in the presence of Cu. The peak at 30 K in the ac susceptibility measurements indicates a spin-glass behavior. The low field part of the M-H curve for x=0.05 crystal indicates weak superconductivity. The shifting of the M-H curve on FC indicates spin-glass state. In conjunction with the XAS results the magnetic behavior is explained in terms of a spontaneous vortex state as a result of the non-freezing Ru5+ spins.
