$t$+$t$ cluster states in $^{6}$He

The study of $t$+$t$ cluster states in $^{6}$He provides valuable insights into exotic nuclear structures and the behavior of fermionic cluster systems. This study shows rich cluster resonant state structures above the threshold, identified by experimental reconstruction and theoretical calculations. The excitation energy spectrum above the $t$+$t$ threshold in $^{6}$He is measured via the fragmentation excitation process during the breakup reaction of $^{9}$Li on a $^{208}$Pb target at an incident energy of 32.7 MeV/nucleon. The resonant states are reconstructed from the final state coincident particles $t$+$t$ using the invariant mass method, while the non-resonant background is estimated using the event mixing method. Two states of energy level peaks at $13.9\pm0.3$ and $15.0\pm0.3$ MeV are observed. Microscopic cluster model calculations exploring the $t+t$ resonant states in $^6\mathrm{He}$ yield theoretical energy spectra which are then compared with the current experimental results. The calculated reduced width amplitudes (RWA) of the $t+t$ channels further confirm the clustering structure of the identified $t+t$ resonant states.

Observation of the $π^2σ^2$-bond linear-chain molecular structure in $^{16}$C

Measurements of the $^2$H($^{16}$C,$^{16}$C$^{*}$$\rightarrow^4$He+$^{12}$Be or $^6$He+$^{10}$Be)$^2$H inelastic excitation and cluster-decay reactions have been carried out at a beam energy of about 23.5 MeV/u. A specially designed detection system, including one multi-layer silicon-strip telescope at around zero degrees, has allowed the high-efficiency three-fold coincident detection and therefore the event-by-event determination of the energy of the unstable nucleus beam. The decay paths from the $^{16}$C resonances to various states of the final $^{10}$Be or $^{12}$Be nucleus are recognized thanks to the well-resolved $Q$-value spectra. The reconstructed resonances at 16.5(1), 17.3(2), 19.4(1) and 21.6(2) MeV are assigned as the $0^+$, $2^+$, $4^+$ and $6^+$ members, respectively, of the positive-parity $(3/2_π^-)^2(1/2_σ^-)^2$-bond linear-chain molecular band in $^{16}$C, based on the angular correlation analysis for the 16.5 MeV state and the excellent agreement of decay patterns between the measurements and theoretical predictions. Moreover, another intriguing high-lying state was observed at 27.2(1) MeV which decays almost exclusively to the $\sim$6 MeV states of $^{10}$Be, in line with the newly predicted pure $σ$-bond linear-chain configuration.

Property investigation for different wedge-shaped CsI(Tl)s

Two types of wedge-shaped CsI(Tl)s were designed to be placed behind the annular double-sided silicon detectors (ADSSDs) to identify the light charged particles with the $ΔE-E$ method. The properties of CsI(Tl)s with different shapes and sizes, such as energy resolution, light output non-uniformity and particle identification capability, were compared by using a $α$-source and a radioactive beam of $^{15}$C. The big-size CsI(Tl) was finally adopted to form the $ΔE-E$ telescope due to better properties. The property differences of these two types of CsI(Tl)s can be interpreted based on the Geant4 simulation results.

Positive-parity linear-chain molecular band in $^{16}$C

An inelastic excitation and cluster-decay experiment $\rm {^2H}(^{16}C,~{^{4}He}+{^{12}Be}~or~{^{6}He}+{^{10}Be}){^2H}$ was carried out to investigate the linear-chain clustering structure in neutron-rich $\rm {^{16}C}$. For the first time, decay-paths from the $\rm {^{16}C}$ resonances to various states of the final nuclei were determined, thanks to the well-resolved $Q$-value spectra obtained from the three-fold coincident measurement. The close-threshold resonance at 16.5 MeV is assigned as the ${J^π}={0^+}$ band head of the predicted positive-parity linear-chain molecular band with ${(3/2_π^-)^2}{(1/2_σ^-)^2}$ configuration, according to the associated angular correlation and decay analysis. Other members of this band were found at 17.3, 19.4, and 21.6 MeV based on their selective decay properties, being consistent with the theoretical predictions. Another intriguing high-lying state was observed at 27.2 MeV which decays almost exclusively to $\rm {^{6}He}+{^{10}Be{(\sim6~ MeV)}}$ final channel, corresponding well to another predicted linear-chain structure with the pure $σ$-bond configuration.

Observation of the predicted charge collective mode of the Tc = 45 K superconducting phase of La2CuO4+δ

We report the far-infrared (far-IR) observation of the Goldstone mode at ~ 72 cm-1 (~ 9 meV) predicted to exist in the superconducting phase of the transition temperature (Tc) at 45 K in the La2CuO4-based superconductors. Our observation furthers the experimental support for the two-component picture where the localized charge texture, formed at a specific planar hole density (Ppl), is tied to the HTS at Tc = 15 K, 30 K, and 45 K in a hierarchical fashion at the so-called "magic" doping level at Ppl = 1/16, 2/16, and 3/16 respectively.

Weak Lensing and Supernovae: Complementary Probes of Dark Energy

Weak lensing observations and supernova observations, combined with CMB observations, can both provide powerful constraints on dark energy properties. Considering statistical errors only, we find luminosity distances inferred from 2000 supernovae and large-scale (l < 1000) angular power spectra inferred from redshift-binned cosmic shear maps place complementary constraints on w_0 and w_a where w(z) = w_0 + w_a(a-1). Further, each set of observations can constrain higher-dimensional parameterizations of w(z); we consider eigenmodes of the w(z) error covariance matrix and find such datasets can each constrain the amplitude of about 5 w(z) eigenmodes. We also consider another parameterization of the dark energy.

The composite picture of the charge carriers in La2-xSrxCuO4 (0.063 < x < 0.11) superconductors

Through far-infrared studies of La2-xSrxCuO4 single crystals for x = 0.063, 0.07, 0.09, and 0.11, we found that only ~ 0.2 % of the total holes participated in the nearly dissipationless normal state charge transport and superconductivity. We have also observed characteristic collective modes at w ~ 18 cm-1 and 22 cm-1 due to the bound carriers in an electronic lattice (EL) state and the free carriers are massively screened by the EL. Our findings lead us to propose a composite picture of the charge system where the free carriers are coupled to and riding on the EL. This unique composite system of charge carriers may provide further insights into the understanding of the cuprate physics.

Low-frequency method for magnetothermopower and Nernst effect measurements on single crystal samples at low temperatures and high magnetic fields

We describe an AC method for the measurement of the longitudinal (Sxx) and transverse (Sxy, i.e. Nernst) thermopower of mm-size single crystal samples at low temperatures (T<1 K) and high magnetic fields (B>30 T). A low-frequency (33 mHz) heating method is used to increase the resolution, and to determine the temperature gradient reliably in high magnetic fields. Samples are mounted between two thermal blocks which are heated by a sinusoidal frequency f0 with a p/2 phase difference. The phase difference between two heater currents gives a temperature gradient at 2f0. The corresponding thermopower and Nernst effect signals are extracted by using a digital signal processing method due. An important component of the method involves a superconducting link, YBa2Cu3O7+d (YBCO), which is mounted in parallel with sample to remove the background magnetothermopower of the lead wires. The method is demonstrated for the quasi two-dimensional organic conductor a-(BEDT-TTF)2KHg(SCN)4, which exhibits a complex, magnetic field dependent ground state above 22.5 T at low temperatures.
