Implementation of the Non-Linear Gauge into GRACE

A general non-linear gauge condition is implemented into GRACE, an automated system for the calculation of physical processes in high-energy physics. This new gauge-fixing is used as a very efficient means to check the results of large scale evaluation in the standard model computed automatically. We report on some systematic test-runs which have been performed for one-loop two-to-two processes to show the validity of the gauge check.

Numerical Renormalization Group Study of non-Fermi-liquid State on Dilute Uranium Systems

We investigate the non-Fermi-liquid (NFL) behavior of the impurity Anderson model (IAM) with non-Kramers doublet ground state of the f$^2$ configuration under the tetragonal crystalline electric field (CEF). The low energy spectrum is explained by a combination of the NFL and the local-Fermi-liquid parts which are independent with each other. The NFL part of the spectrum has the same form to that of two-channel-Kondo model (TCKM). We have a parameter range that the IAM shows the $- \ln T$ divergence of the magnetic susceptibility together with the positive magneto resistance. We point out a possibility that the anomalous properties of U$_x$Th$_{1-x}$Ru$_2$Si$_2$ including the decreasing resistivity with decreasing temperature can be explained by the NFL scenario of the TCKM type. We also investigate an effect of the lowering of the crystal symmetry. It breaks the NFL behavior at around the temperature, $δ/10$, where $δ$ is the orthorhombic CEF splitting. The NFL behavior is still expected above the temperature, $δ/10$.

susy23 v2.0: an Event Generator for Supersymmetric Processes at $e^+e^-$ Colliders

\susy23 is a Monte-Carlo package for generating supersymmetric (SUSY) processes at $e^+e^-$ colliders. Twenty-three types of SUSY processes with 2 or 3 final state particles at tree level are included in version 2.0. {\susy23} addresses event simulation requirements at $e^+e^-$ colliders such as LEP. Matrix elements are generated by GRACE with the helicity amplitude method for processes involving massive fermions. The phase space integration of the matrix element gives the total and differential cross sections, then unweighted events are generated. Sparticle widths and decay branching ratios are calculated. Each final state particle may then decay according to these probabilities. Spin correlations are taken into account in the decays of sparticles. Corrections of initial state radiation (ISR) are implemented in two ways, one is based on the electron structure function formalism and the second uses the parton shower algorithm called QEDPS. Parton shower and hadronization of the final quarks are performed through an interface to JETSET.

Automatic Calculation of Complete $O(α)$ Corrections to $e^+e^- \to W^+μ\barν_μ$

Using the automatic system GRACE-LOOP, the full $O(α)$ electroweak corrections has been calculated for the process $e^+e^- \to W^+μ\barν_μ$. The total correction to the cross section is found to be typically -6.4% at $\sqrt{s}=190$ GeV with $10^\circ$ cut on the muon angle from the beam, including the correction from the hard photon emission. It is observed that the correction is rather sensitive to the physical parameters. With the same conditions the correction corresponding to the real W-boson pair is -4.1% and hence the deviation is not negligible.

grc4f v1.0: a Four-fermion Event Generator for e+e- Collisions

grc4f is a Monte-Carlo package for generating e+e- to 4-fermion processes in the standard model. All of the 76 LEP-2 allowed fermionic final state processes evaluated at tree level are included in version 1.0. grc4f addresses event simulation requirements at e+e- colliders such as LEP and up-coming linear colliders. Most of the attractive aspects of grc4f come from its link to the GRACE system: a Feynman diagram automatic computation system. The GRACE system has been used to produce the computational code for all final states, giving a higher level of confidence in the calculation correctness. Based on the helicity amplitude calculation technique, all fermion masses can be kept finite and helicity information can be propagated down to the final state particles. The phase space integration of the matrix element gives the total and differential cross sections, then unweighted events are Generated. Initial state radiation (ISR) corrections are implemented in two ways, one is based on the electron structure function formalism and the second uses the parton shower algorithm called QEDPS. The latter can also be applied for final state radiation (FSR) though the interference with the ISR is not yet taken into account. Parton shower and hadronization of the final quarks are performed through an interface to JETSET. Coulomb correction between two intermediate W's, anomalous coupling as well as gluon contributions in the hadronic processes are also included.

Polarization asymmetry and the Higgs boson production mechanisms

We calculate the cross section of Higgs boson production in the reaction e+e- -> neutrino anti-neutrino b b-bar for the case of left and right longitudinally polarized electron beam. Complete set of signal and irreducible background diagrams is considered. We propose a new critical test to identify the Higgs boson provided by the ratio of cross sections with left and right beam polarization. This quantity is sensitive to the ratio of Higgs-W and Higgs-Z couplings, since it exhibits the interplay of bremsstrahlung and fusion mechanisms of Higgs boson production inherent to the Standard Model scheme.

Improved QEDPS for Radiative Corrections in e+e- Annihilation

The generator QEDPS, a parton shower model in QED, developed by the present authors has been improved. By a careful study on the shower algorithm it was found that some finite contributions have been missed in the original version. They are small, but cannot be neglected when the contribution of the soft photons is dominant. A method is presented to correct these finite pieces and then a new generator, improved QEDPS, is proposed, which is able to make more precise prediction for the processes observed in e+e- annihilation as far as the initial radiation is concerned.

Test of QEDPS: A Monte Carlo for the hard photon distributions in e+ e- annihilation proecss

The validity of a photon shower generator QEDPS has been examined in detail. This is formulated based on the leading-logarithmic renormalization equation for the electron structure function and it provides a photon shower along the initial e+-. The main interest in the present work is to test the reliability of the generator to describe a process accompanying hard photons which are detected. For this purpose, by taking the HZ production as the basic reaction, the total cross section and some distributions of the hard photons are compared between two cases that these photons come from either those generated by QEDPS or the hard process e+e- -> H Z gamma gamma. The comparison performed for the single and the double hard photon has shown a satisfactory agreement which demonstrated that the model is self-consistent.

A Parton Shower Model for Hadronic Two-Photon Process in e^+e^- Scatterings

A new model of QCD parton shower is proposed which is dedicated to two-photon process in $e^+ e^-$ scattering. When hadron jets are produced, the photon may resolve into quark-antiquark pairs so that the structure functions of the photon should be introduced. Based on the Altarelli-Parisi equation for these functions, an algorithm is formulated that allows us to construct a model for parton showers for the photon. Our model consists of two parts, one of which describes the deep inelastic scattering of the photon and the other one the scattering of two quasi-real photons. Using the model some results are presented on parton distributions and jet production.

Numerical Renormalization-Group Study of Particle-Hole Symmetry Breaking in Two-Channel Kondo Problem : Effect of Repulsion between Conduction Electrons and Potential Scattering

Particle-hole symmetry breaking perturbation in two-channel pseudospin Kondo problem is studied by the numerical renormalization-group method. It is shown that the repulsion between conduction electrons at the impurity site and the single particle potential are the relevant perturbations against the conventional non-Fermi liquid fixed point. Although the repulsion (potential) with realistic strength prevents the overscreening of pseudospin, it induces in turn a {\it real spin}, which is also overscreened again. Thus the {\it real spin} susceptibility becomes anomalous contrary to the conventional two-channel Kondo problem.

Probing the HHH vertex in e+e-, e-gamma and gamma-gamma collisions for light and intermediate Higgs bosons

We have studied double Higgs production at future linear colliders while paying special attention to the option of high-energy and high-luminosity photon beams. The main purpose was to examine the feasibility of e+e-, e-gamma and gamma-gamma colliders in order to probe the anomalous triple Higgs coupling, which is crucial for understanding the Standard Model. We considered mainly the cases of light and intermediate Higgs bosons. Double Higgs production is almost background free, except in the MH=MZ mass range, which is discussed separately. It is shown that for a light Higgs boson the HHH coupling can be measured even at e+e- collider at 500 GeV. For a intermediate Higgs boson a collider in the TeV region is suitable for such an investigation. We have estimated the bounds on the anomalous HHH coupling, which can be experimentally established using future linear colliders.

$e^+ e^- \to e^- {\bar ν_e} u {\bar d}$ from LEP to linear collider energies

The complete tree level cross section for the process $e^+e^- \to e^- \barν_e u \bar{d}$ is computed using the GRACE system, a program package for automatic amplitude calculation. Special attention is brought to the gauge violation problem induced by the finite width of the $W$-boson. The {\it preserved gauge scheme} is introduced and an event generator which includes double-resonant, single-resonant and non-resonant diagrams with no need for a cut on the electron polar angle is presented. Since no cut needs to be applied to the electron, the generator can be used to estimate background for searches involving jets and missing energy. A monojet event rate estimation based on this process at LEP-I energy is discussed.

Jets in photon-photon collisions: from TRISTAN to J/N-LC

We study jet production in photon-photon reactions at the next-to-leading logarithm accuracy. Special emphasis is placed on the discussion of the theoretical uncertainties and on the role of the hadronic component of the photon structure function. We also discuss subtleties in the quasi-real photon spectrum when the photon is involved in a large transverse momentum reaction. The phenomenology at TRISTAN energies is discussed and predictions are made for LEP and a $1\ TeV$ \epem collider.
