Performance in beam tests of Carbon-enriched irradiated Low Gain Avalanche Detectors for the ATLAS High Granularity Timing Detector

The High Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD) will be installed in the ATLAS experiment to mitigate pile-up effects during the High Luminosity (HL) phase of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. Low Gain Avalanche Detectors (LGADs) will provide high-precision measurements of the time of arrival of particles at the HGTD, improving the particle-vertex assignment. To cope with the high-radiation environment, LGADs have been optimized by adding carbon in the gain layer, thus reducing the acceptor removal rate after irradiation. Performances of several carbon-enriched LGAD sensors from different vendors, and irradiated with high fluences of 1.5 and 2.5 x 10^15 neq/cm2, have been measured in beam test campaigns during the years 2021 and 2022 at CERN SPS and DESY. This paper presents the results obtained with data recorded by an oscilloscope synchronized with a beam telescope which provides particle position information within a resolution of a few um. Collected charge, time resolution and hit efficiency measurements are presented. In addition, the efficiency uniformity is also studied as a function of the position of the incident particle inside the sensor pad.

Search for relativistic Magnetic Monopoles with ten years of the ANTARES detector data

The presented study is an updated search for magnetic monopoles using data taken with the ANTARES neutrino telescope over a period of 10 years (January 2008 to December 2017). In accordance with some grand unification theories, magnetic monopoles were created during the phase of symmetry breaking in the early Universe, and accelerated by galactic magnetic fields. As a consequence of their high energy, they could cross the Earth and emit a significant signal in a Cherenkov-based telescope like ANTARES, for appropriate mass and velocity ranges. This analysis uses a run-by-run simulation strategy, as well as a new simulation of magnetic monopoles taking into account the Kasama, Yang and Goldhaber model for their cross section with matter. The results obtained for relativistic magnetic monopoles with velocity higher than 0.817c, where c is the speed of light in vacuum, are presented.

Nuclearite search with ANTARES

The ANTARES detector is a Cherenkov underwater neutrino telescope operating in the Mediterranean Sea. Its construction was completed in 2008. Even though optimised for the search of cosmic neutrinos, this telescope is also sensitive to nuclearites (massive nuggets of strange quark matter) trough the black body radiation emitted along their path. We discuss here the possible detection of non-relativistic down-going nuclearites with the ANTARES telescope and present the results of an analysis using data collected from 2009 till 2017.

On the Resonant Spin Flavor Precession of the Neutrino in the Sun

This work deals with the possible solution of the solar neutrino problem in the framework of the resonant neutrino spin-flavor precession scenario. The event rate results from the solar neutrino experiments as well as the recoil electron energy spectrum from SuperKamiokande are used to constrain the free parameters of the neutrino in this model. We consider two kinds of magnetic profiles inside the sun. For both cases, a static and a twisting field are discussed.
