Thermal conductivity of quantum magnetic monopoles in the frustrated pyrochlore Yb2Ti2O7

We report low-temperature thermal conductivity $κ$ of pyrochlore Yb$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$, which contains frustrated spin-ice correlations with significant quantum fluctuations. In the disordered spin-liquid regime, $κ(H)$ exhibits a nonmonotonic magnetic field dependence, which is well explained by the strong spin-phonon scattering and quantum monopole excitations. We show that the excitation energy of quantum monopoles is strongly suppressed from that of dispersionless classical monopoles. Moreover, in stark contrast to the diffusive classical monopoles, the quantum monopoles have a very long mean free path. We infer that the quantum monopole is a novel heavy particle, presumably boson, which is highly mobile in a three-dimensional spin liquid.

Full $\mathcal{O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to $e^+e^- \rightarrow e^+e^- γ$ at the ILC with GRACE-Loop

By using the GRACE-Loop system, we calculate the full $\mathcal{O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow e^+e^- γ$, which is important for future investigations at the International Linear Collider (ILC). With the GRACE-Loop system, the calculations are checked numerically by three consistency tests: ultraviolet finiteness, infrared finiteness, and gauge-parameter independence. The results show good numerical stability when quadruple precision is used. In the phenomenological results, we find that the electroweak corrections to the total cross section range from $\sim -4\%$ to $\sim -21\%$ when $\sqrt{s}$ varies from $250$ GeV to $1$ TeV. The corrections also significantly affect the differential cross sections, which are a function of the invariant masses and angles and the final-particle energies. Such corrections will play an important role for the high-precision program at the ILC.

Mapping the first order magnetic transition in Yb$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$

The very nature of the ground state of the pyrochlore compound Yb$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ is much debated, as experimental results demonstrate evidence for both a disordered or a long-range ordered ground state. Indeed, the delicate balance of exchange interactions and anisotropy is believed to lead to competing states, such as a Quantum Spin Liquid state or a ferromagnetic state which may originate from an Anderson-Higgs transition. We present a detailed magnetization study demonstrating a first order ferromagnetic transition at 245 mK and 150 mK in a powder and a single crystal sample respectively. Its first-order character is preserved up to applied fields of $\sim$ 200 Oe. The transition stabilizes a ferromagnetic component and involves slow dynamics in the magnetization. Residual fluctuations are also evidenced, the presence of which might explain some of the discrepancies between previously published data for Yb$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$.

Full $\mathcal{O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to $t \bar{t} γ$ and $e^-e^+γ$ productions at ILC with GRACE-Loop

The full $\mathcal{O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to $t \bar{t} γ$ and $e^-e^+γ$ productions at the International Linear Collider (ILC) are presented in this paper. The computation is performed with the help of GRACE-Loop system. In the physical results, we discuss on the cross section, electroweak corrections, and the top quark forward-backward asymmetry ($A_{FB}$) which are the function of the center-of-mass energy.

Origin of the energy gap in the narrow-gap semiconductor FeSb2 revealed by high-pressure magnetotransport measurements

To elucidate an origin of the two energy gaps in the narrow-gap semiconductor FeSb2, we have investigated the effects of hydrostatic pressure on the resistivity, Hall resistance and magnetoresistance at low temperatures. The larger energy gap evaluated from the temperature dependence of resistivity above 100 K is enhanced from 30 to 40 meV with pressure from 0 to 1.8 GPa, as generally observed in conventional semiconductors. In the low-temperature range where a large Seebeck coefficient was observed, we evaluate the smaller energy gap from the magnetotransport tensor using a two-carrier model and find that the smaller gap exhibits a weak pressure dependence in contrast to that of the larger gap. To explain the pressure variations of the energy gaps, we propose a simple model that the smaller gap is a gap from the impurity level to the conduction band and the larger one is a gap between the valence and conduction bands, suggesting that the observed large Seebeck coefficient is not relevant to electron correlation effects.

Current-Induced Gap Suppression in the Mott Insulator Ca$_2$RuO$_4$

We present nonlinear conduction phenomena in the Mott insulator Ca2RuO4 investigated with a proper evaluation of self-heating effects. By utilizing a non-contact infrared thermometer, the sample temperature was accurately determined even in the presence of large Joule heating. We find that the resistivity continuously decreases with currents under an isothermal environment. The nonlinearity and the resulting negative differential resistance occurs at relatively low current range, incompatible with conventional mechanisms such as hot electron or impact ionization. We propose a possible current-induced gap suppression scenario, which is also discussed in non-equilibrium superconducting state or charge-ordered insulator.

Full $\mathcal{O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to $e^+e^- \rightarrow t \bar{t} γ$ with GRACE-Loop

We present the full $\mathcal{O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow t \bar{t} γ$ at the International Linear Collider (ILC). The computation is performed with the help of the GRACE-Loop system. We present the total cross-section and the top quark forward-backward asymmetry ($A_{FB}$) as a function of the center-of-mass energy and compare them with the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow t \bar{t}$. We find that the value of $A_{FB}$ in $t \bar{t} γ$ production is larger than $A_{FB}$ in $t\bar{t}$ production. It is an important result for the measurement of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at the ILC. Applying a structure function method, we also subtract the QED correction to gain the genuine weak correction in both the $α$ scheme and the $G_μ$ scheme ($δ_{W}^{G_μ}$). We obtain numerical values for $δ_{W}^{G_μ}$ which are changing from 2% to -24% when we vary the center-of-mass energy from 360 GeV to 1 TeV.

Low-temperature magnetotransport of narrow-gap semiconductor FeSb2

We present a study of the magnetoresistance and Hall effect in the narrow-gap semiconductor FeSb2 at low temperatures. Both the electrical and Hall resistivities show unusual magnetic field dependence in the low-temperature range where a large Seebeck coefficient was observed. By applying a two-carrier model, we find that the carrier concentration decreases from 1 down to 10^-4 ppm/unit cell and the mobility increases from 2000 to 28000 cm2/Vs with decreasing temperature from 30 down to 4 K. At lower temperatures, the magnetoresistive behavior drastically changes and a negative magnetoresistance is observed at 3 K. These low-temperature behaviors are reminiscent of the low-temperature magnetotransport observed in doped semiconductors such as As-doped Ge, which is well described by a weak-localization picture. We argue a detailed electronic structure in FeSb2 inferred from our observations.

Optical Study of the Electronic Structure and Correlation Effects in K0.49RhO2

We study the optical properties of the layered rhodium oxide K0.49RhO2, which is isostructural to the thermoelectric material NaxCoO2. The optical conductivity shows broad interband transition peaks as well as a low-energy Drude-like upturn, reminiscent of the optical spectra of NaxCoO2. We find that the peaks clearly shift to higher energies with respect to those of NaxCoO2, indicating a larger crystal-field splitting between eg and t2g bands in K0.49RhO2. The Drude weights suggest that the effective mass of K0.49RhO2 is almost two times smaller than that of NaxCoO2. These differences in electronic structures and correlation effects between NaxCoO2 and K0.49RhO2 are discussed in terms of the difference between Co 3d and Rh 4d orbitals.

Status reports from the GRACE Group

We discuss a new approach for the numerical evaluation of loop integrals. The fully numerical calculations of an infrared one-loop vertex and a box diagram are demonstrated. To perform these calculations, we apply an extrapolation method based on the $ε$-algorithm. In our approach, the super high precision control in the numerical manipulation is essential to handle the infrared singularity. We adopt a multi-precision library named {\tt HMLib} for the precision control in the calculations.

Magnetic and Metal-Insulator Transitions in beta-Na0.5CoO2 and gamma-K0.5CoO2 -NMR and Neutron Diffraction Studies-

Co-oxides beta-Na0.5CoO2 and gamma-K0.5CoO2 have been prepared by the Na de-intercalation from alpha-NaCoO2 and by the floating-zone method, respectively. It has been found that successive phase transitions take place at temperatures Tc1 and Tc2 in both systems. The appearance of the internal magnetic field at Tc1 with decreasing temperature T indicates that the antiferromagnetic order exists at T < Tc1, as in gamma-Na0.5CoO2. For beta-Na0.5CoO2, the transition temperatures and the NMR parameters determined from the data taken for magnetically ordered state are similar to those of gamma-Na0.5CoO2, indicating that the difference of the stacking ways of the CoO2 layers between these systems do not significantly affect their physical properties. For gamma-K0.5CoO2, the quantitative difference of the physical quantities are found from those of beta- and gamma-Na0.5CoO2. The difference between the values of Tci (i = 1 and 2) of these systems might be explained by considering the distance between CoO2 layers.

Electroweak Corrections for the Study of the Higgs Potential at the LC

The full electroweak radiative correction is calculated for the process ee--> nunubarHH which is a window for the study of the Higgs potential at the future linear collider. The calculation is done by using GRACE, the automated system for the calculation of Feynman diagrams. The magnitude of the weak correction in the G-mu scheme is small in the high energy region where this process dominates over the ZHH production.

Electroweak corrections to Higgs production through ZZ fusion at the linear collider

We present the full order alpha electroweak radiative corrections to e+e- -> e+e-H. The computation is performed with the help of GRACE-loop. The extraction of the full QED corrections is performed, these are quite large at threshold. The genuine weak corrections, for the linear collider energies, when expressed in the G_mu scheme are of order -2 to -4 for Higgs masses preferred by the latest precision data. We also extract the m_t^2 type corrections and make a comparison with the weak corrections for the process e+e- ->nu nu H.

Evolution of the electronic structure from electron-doped to hole-doped states in the two-dimensional Mott-Hubbard system La1.17-xPbxVS3.17

The filling-controlled metal-insulator transition (MIT) in a two-dimensional Mott-Hubbard system La1.17-xPbxVS3.17 has been studied by photoemission spectroscopy. With Pb substitution x, chemical potential mu abruptly jumps by ~ 0.07 eV between x=0.15 and 0.17, indicating that a charge gap is opened at x ~= 0.16 in agreement with the Mott insulating state of the d2 configuration. When holes or electrons are doped into the Mott insulator of x ~= 0.16, the gap is filled and the photoemission spectral weight at mu, rho(mu), gradually increases in a similar way to the electronic specific heat coefficient, although the spectral weight remains depressed around mu compared to that expected for a normal metal, showing a pseudogap behavior in the metallic samples. The observed behavior of varrho(mu)->0 for x->0.16 is contrasted with the usual picture that the electron effective mass of the Fermi-liquid system is enhanced towards the metal-insulator boundary. With increasing temperature, the gap or the pseudogap is rapidly filled up, and the spectra at T=300 K appears to be almost those of a normal metal. Near the metal-insulator boundary, the spectra around mu are consistent with the formation of a Coulomb gap, suggesting the influence of long-range Coulomb interaction under the structural disorder intrinsic to this system.

Full order_alpha electroweak and order alpha_s corrections to e^+e^- --> t t H

We present the full ${\cal O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to associated Higgs top pair production in $e^+e^-$ collisions. We combine these results with a new calculation of the full one-loop QCD corrections. The computation is performed with the help of {\tt GRACE-loop}. We find that the ${\cal O}(α)$ correction can be larger than the ${\cal O}(α_s)$ corrections around the peak of the cross section especially for a light Higgs mass. At threshold these corrections are swamped by the QCD corrections which are enhanced by the gluon Coulomb contribution. We have also subtracted the complete QED corrections and expressed the genuine weak correction both in the $α$-scheme and the $G_μ$-scheme. This reveals that the genuine weak corrections are not negligible and should be taken into account for a precision measurement of this cross section and the extraction of the Yukawa $t \bar t H$ coupling.

We examine the double Higgs production process at JLC. We focus our attention on the measurement of the Higgs self-coupling. The sensitivity of the triple Higgs coupling measurement is discussed in the Higgs mass range 100-200 GeV and the center of mass energy to be 500 GeV-1.5 TeV.

Octonionic Yang-Mills Instanton on Quaternionic Line Bundle of Spin(7) Holonomy

The total space of the spinor bundle on the four dimensional sphere S^4 is a quaternionic line bundle that admits a metric of Spin(7) holonomy. We consider octonionic Yang-Mills instanton on this eight dimensional gravitational instanton. This is a higher dimensional generalization of (anti-)self-dual instanton on the Eguchi-Hanson space. We propose an ansatz for Spin(7) Yang-Mills field and derive a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations. The solutions are classified according to the asymptotic behavior at infinity. We give a complete solution, when the gauge group is reduced to a product of SU(2) subalgebras in Spin(7). The existence of more general Spin(7) valued solutions can be seen by making an asymptotic expansion.
