Efficient characterization of quantum nondemolition qubit readout

We study the quantitative characterization of the performance of qubit measurements in this paper. In particular, the back-action evading nature of quantum nondemolition (QND) readout of qubits is fully quantified by quantum trace distance. Only computational basis states are necessary to be taken into consideration. Most importantly, we propose an experimentally efficient method to evaluate the QND fidelity based on the classical trace distance, which uses an experimental scheme with two consecutive measurements. The three key quantifiers of a measurement, i.e., QND fidelity, readout fidelity, and projectivity, can be derived directly from the same experimental scheme. Besides, we present the relationships among these three factors. Theoretical simulation results for the dispersive readout of superconducting qubits show the validity of the proposed QND fidelity. Efficient quantification of measurement performance is of practical significance for the diagnosis, performance improvement, and design of measurement apparatuses.

Side information -driven quantum composite control for protecting a qubit

We study protection of a qubit that transfer through a decoherence noise by quantum control technique. In this work, we assume that the communication participants have some side information about the qubit. Our aim is to take fully advantage of given side information to design a quantum control scheme that makes the output state close to the input state as better as possible. Especially, in this paper, we consider the quantum composite control (QCC) structure, which has shown to capture a better balance between fidelity and success probability, i.e., two essential measures for protection. Comparison has been made between our scheme and previous ones. We show there's advantages in two aspects. On one hand, when compared with the scheme that has taking fully consideration of classical side information but not quantum one, our scheme achieves higher fidelity. Inversely, when the scheme with quantum side information but not classical one is considered, our scheme also has nontrivial improvement.

Local indistinguishability of orthogonal product states

In the general bipartite quantum system $m \otimes n$, Wang \emph{et al.} [Y.-L Wang \emph{et al.}, Phys. Rev. A \textbf{92}, 032313 (2015)] presented $3(m+n)-9$ orthogonal product states which cannot be distinguished by local operations and classical communication (LOCC). In this paper, we aim to construct less locally indistinguishable orthogonal product states in $m\otimes n $. First, in $3\otimes n (3< n)$ quantum system, we construct $3n-2$ locally indistinguishable orthogonal product states which are not unextendible product bases. Then, for $m\otimes n (4\leq m\leq n)$, we present $3n+m-4$ orthogonal product states which cannot be perfectly distinguished by LOCC. Finally, in the general bipartite quantum system $m\otimes n(3\leq m\leq n)$, we show a smaller set with $2n-1$ orthogonal product states and prove that these states are LOCC indistinguishable using a very simple but quite effective method. All of the above results demonstrate the phenomenon of nonlocality without entanglement.

Revised Geometric Measure of Entanglement

We present an revised geometric measure of entanglement (RGME). The revised version is an entanglement monotone. Some useful inequalities about RGME are deduced. For exemplification, we give the formulas of RGME for the two-parameter class of states in $2 \otimes n$ quantum system, the two particles high dimensional maximally entangled mixed state, the isotropic state including $n$-particle $d$-level case and two multipartite bound entangled states. The result shows there is a relation $\widetilde{E}_{\sin^2} \leq E_{re}$, which indicates that the RGME is an appropriate measure of entanglement.

Multi-particle and High-dimension Controlled Order Rearrangement Encryption Protocols

Based on the controlled order rearrange encryption (CORE) for quantum key distribution using EPR pairs[Fu.G.Deng and G.L.Long Phys.Rev.A68 (2003) 042315], we propose the generalized controlled order rearrangement encryption (GCORE) protocols of $N$ qubits and $N$ qutrits, concretely display them in the cases using 3-qubit, 2-qutrit maximally entangled basis states. We further indicate that our protocols will become safer with the increase of number of particles and dimensions. Moreover, we carry out the security analysis using quantum covariant cloning machine for the protocol using qutrits. Although the applications of the generalized scheme need to be further studied, the GCORE has many distinct features such as great capacity and high efficiency.
