Hairy black holes in the general Skyrme model

We study the existence of hairy black holes in the generalized Einstein-Skyrme model. It is proven that in the BPS model limit there are no hairy black hole solutions, although the model admits gravitating (and flat space) solitons. Furthermore, we find strong evidence that a necessary condition for the existence of black holes with Skyrmionic hair is the inclusion of the Skyrme term $\mathcal{L}_4$. As an example, we show that there are no hairy black holes in the $\mathcal{L}_2+\mathcal{L}_6+\mathcal{L}_0$ model and present a new kind of black hole solutions with compact Skyrmion hair in the $\mathcal{L}_4+\mathcal{L}_6+\mathcal{L}_0$ model.

Gauged Aloof Baby Skyrme Model

We present a study of $U(1)$ gauged modification of the 2+1 dimensional planar Skyrme model with a particular choice of the symmetry breaking potential term which combines a short-range repulsion and a long-range attraction. In the absence of the gauge interaction the multi-solitons of the model are aloof, they consist of the individual constituents which are well separated. Peculiar feature of the model is that there are usually several different stable static multi-soliton solutions of rather similar energy in a topological sector of given degree. We investigated the pattern of the solutions and find new previously unknown local minima. It is shown that coupling of the aloof planar multi-Skyrmions to the magnetic field strongly affects the pattern of interaction between the constituents. We analyse the dependency of the structure of the solutions, their energies and magnetic fluxes on the strength of the gauge coupling. It is found that, generically, in the strong coupling limit the coupling to the gauge field results in effective recovering of the rotational invariance of the configuration.

Gravitating sphalerons in the Skyrme model

We construct self-gravitating axially symmetric sphaleron solutions of the 3+1 dimensional Skyrme model coupled to Einstein gravity. The solutions are static and asymptotically flat, they are characterized by two integers n and m, where n is the winding numbers of the constituents and the second integer m defines type of the solution. These configuration correspond to the chains of charge n Skyrmions and charge -n anti-Skyrmions placed along the axis of symmetry in alternating order. We investigate the dependency of the masses of the gravitating sphalerons on the gravitational coupling. We find new chains of self-gravitating |n| = 1 Skyrmions-anti-Skyrmions (S-A) which emerge at some critical non-zero value of the gravitational coupling and do not have flat space limit. In contrast, the branches of self-gravitating |n| $\ge$ 2 S-A chains emerge from the corresponding flat space configurations. In both cases these branches merge at some maximal value of the effective gravitational coupling the branches of different type. The branch of gravitating S-A pair extends all the way back to the limit of vanishing coupling constant where solutions approach the corresponding generalised Bartnik-McKinnon solutions. The upper branch of gravitating S-A-S chain exist up to some critical value of the gravitational coupling at which the chain becomes broken. We further find that for small values of the coupling constant on the upper branches, the solutions correspond to composite systems, consisting of a scaled inner Einstein-Yang-Mills solution and outer Skyrmions which are separating from the inner configuration.

Interaction of hopfions of charge 1 and 2 from product ansatz

We continue the discussion on the interaction energy of the axially symmetric Hopfions evaluated directly from the product anzsatz. The Hopfions are given by the projection of Skyrme model solutions onto the coset space SU(2)/U(1). Our results show that if the separation between the constituents is not small, the product ansatz can be considered as a good approximation to the general pattern of Hopfions interaction both in repulsive and attractive channel.

Gauged Hopfions

We discuss the $U(1)$ gauged version of the 3+1 dimensional Faddeev-Skyrme model supplemented by the Maxwell term. We show that there exist axially symmetric static solutions coupled to the non-integer toroidal flux of magnetic field, which revert to the usual Hopfions ${\cal A}_{m,n}$ of lower degrees $Q=mn$ in the limit of the gauge coupling constant vanishing. The masses of the static gauged Hopfions are found to be less than the corresponding masses of the usual ungauged solitons ${\cal A}_{1,1}$ and ${\cal A}_{2,1}$ respectively, they become lighter as gauge coupling increases. The dependence of the solutions on the gauge coupling is investigated. We find that in the strong coupling regime the gauged Hopfion carries two magnetic fluxes, which are quantized in units of $2π$, carrying $n$ and $m$ quanta respectively. The first flux encircles the position curve and the second one is directed along the symmetry axis. Effective quantization of the field in the gauge sector may allow us to reconsider the usual arguments concerning the lower topological bound in the Faddeev-Skyrme-Maxwell model.

Hopfions interaction from the viewpoint of the product ansatz

We discuss the relation between the solutions of the Skyrme model of lower degrees and the corresponding axially symmetric Hopfions which is given by the projection onto the coset space SU(2)/U(1). The interaction energy of the Hopfions is evaluated directly from the product ansatz. Our results show that if the separation between the constituents is not very small, the product ansatz can be considered as a relatively good approximation to the general pattern of the charge one Hopfions interaction both in repulsive and attractive channel.

Resonance structures in coupled two-component $ϕ^4$ model

We present a numerical study of the process of the kink-antikink collisions in the coupled one-dimensional two-component $ϕ^4$ model. Our results reveal two different soliton solutions which represent double kink configuration and kink-non-topological soliton (lump) bound state. Collision of these solitons leads to very reach resonance structure which is related to reversible energy exchange between the kinks, non-topological solitons and the internal vibrational modes. Various channels of the collisions are discussed, it is shown there is a new type of self-similar fractal structure which appears in the collisions of the relativistic kinks, there the width of the resonance windows increases with the increase of the impact velocity. An analytical approximation scheme is discussed in the limit of the perturbative coupling between the sectors. Considering the spectrum of linear fluctuations around the solitons we found that the double kink configuration is unstable if the coupling constant between the sectors is negative.

Hopfion canonical quantization

We study the effect of the canonical quantization of the rotational mode of the charge Q=1 and Q=2 spinning Hopfions. The axially-symmetric solutions are constructed numerically, it is shown the quantum corrections to the mass of the configurations are relatively large.

Scalar hairy black holes and solitons in a gravitating Goldstone model

We study black hole solutions of Einstein gravity coupled to a specific global symmetry breaking Goldstone model described by an O(3) isovector scalar field in four spacetime dimensions. Our configurations are static and spherically symmetric, approaching at infinity a Minkowski spacetime background. A set of globally regular, particle-like solutions are found in the limit of vanishing event horizon radius. These configurations can be viewed as 'regularised' global monopoles, since their mass is finite and the spacetime geometry has no deficit angle. As an unusual feature, we notice the existence of extremal black holes in this model defined in terms of gravity and scalar fields only.

Oscillon resonances and creation of kinks in particle collisions

We present a numerical study of the process of production of kink-antikink pairs in the collision of particle-like states in the one-dimensional $ϕ^4$ model. It is shown that there are 3 steps in the process, the first step is to excite the oscillon intermediate state in the particle collision, the second step is a resonance excitation of the oscillon by the incoming perturbations, and finally, the soliton-antisoliton pair can be created from the resonantly excited oscillon. It is shown that the process depends fractally on the amplitude of the perturbations and the wave number of the perturbation. We also present the effective collective coordinate model for this process.

Skyrmion--Anti-Skyrmion Chains

Static axially symmetric sphaleron-type solutions describing chains of interpolating Skyrmion--anti-Skyrmions have been constructed numerically. The configurations are characterized by two integers n and m, where $\pm n$ are the winding numbers of the constituent Skyrmion and anti-Skyrmion and the second integer m defines type of the solution, it has zero topological charge for even m and for odd values of m the Skyrmion--anti-Skyrmion chain has topological charge n. For the vanishing mass term we confirm the existence of such chain solutions for winding number $|n| \ge 2$. The similarity with monopole--anti-monopole pairs is highlighted.

Baby Skyrmions stabilized by canonical quantization

We analyse the effect of the canonical quantization of the rotational mode of the O(3) $σ$-model which includes the Skyrme term. Numerical evidence is presented that the quantum correction to the mass of the rotationally-invariant charge $n=1,2$ configurations may stabilize the solution even in the limit of vanishing potential. The corresponding range of values of the parameters is discussed.

d=4+1 gravitating nonabelian solutions with bi-azimuthal symmetry

We construct static, asymptotically flat solutions of SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills theory in 4+1 dimensions, subject to bi-azimuthal symmetry. Both particle-like and black hole solutions are considered for two different sets of boundary conditions in the Yang--Mills sector, corresponding to multisolitons and soliton-antisoliton pairs. For gravitating multi-soliton solutions, we find that their mass per unit charge is lower than the mass of the corresponding unit charge, spherically symmetric soliton.

Particle-like solutions to the Yang--Mills-dilaton system in d=4+1 dimensions

We construct static solutions to a SU(2) Yang--Mills (YM) dilaton model in 4+1 dimensions subject to bi-azimuthal symmetry. The YM sector of the model consists of the usual YM term and the next higher order term of the YM hierarchy, which is required by the scaling condition for the existence of finite energy solutions. The basic features of two different types of configurations are studied, corresponding to (multi)solitons with topological charge $n^2$, and soliton--antisoliton pairs with zero topological charge.

Collective coordinates of the Skyrme model coupled with fermions

The problem of construction of fiber bundle over the moduli space of the Skyrme model is considered. We analyse an extension of the original Skyrme model which includes the minimal interaction with fermions. An analogy with modili space of the fermion-monopole system is used to construct a fiber bundle structure over the skyrmion moduli space. The possibility of the non-trivial holonomy appearance is considered. It is shown that the effect of the fermion interaction turns the $n$-skyrmion moduli space into a real vector bundle with natural $SO(2n+1)$ connection.

Monopoles, Antimonopoles and Vortex Rings

We present a new class of static axially symmetric solutions of SU(2) Yang-Mills-Higgs theory, where the Higgs field vanishes on rings centered around the symmetry axis. Associating a magnetic dipole moment with each Higgs vortex ring, the dipole moments add for solutions in the trivial topological sector, whereas they cancel for magnetically charged solutions.

Monopole--Antimonopole Chains

We present new static axially symmetric solutions of SU(2) Yang-Mills-Higgs theory, representing chains of monopoles and antimonopoles in static equilibrium. They correspond to saddlepoints of the energy functional and exist both in the topologically trivial sector and in the sector with topological charge one.

(1+1)-dimensional Baryons from the SU(N) Color-Flavor Transformation

The color-flavor transformation, an identity that connects two integrals, each of which is over one of a dual pair of Lie groups acting in the fermionic Fock space, is extended to the case of the special unitary group. Using this extension, a toy model of lattice QCD is studied: N_f species of spinless fermions interacting with strongly coupled SU(N_c) lattice gauge fields in 1+1 dimensions. The color-flavor transformed theory is expressed in terms of gauge singlets, the meson fields, organized into sectors distinguished by the distribution of baryonic flux. A comprehensive analytical and numerical search is made for saddle-point configurations of the meson fields, with various topological charges, in the vacuum and single-baryon sectors. Two definitions of the static baryon on the square lattice, straight and zigzag, are investigated. The masses of the baryonic states are estimated using the saddle-point approximation for large N_c.
