Accelerating adiabatic quantum transfer for three-level $Λ$-type structure systems via picture transformation

In this paper, we investigate the quantum transfer for the system with three-level $Λ$-type structure, and construct a shortcut to the adiabatic passage via picture transformation to speed up the evolution. We can design the pulses directly without any additional couplings. Moreover, by choosing suitable control parameters, the Rabi frequencies of pulses can be expressed by the linear superpositions of Gaussian functions, which could be easily realized in experiments. Compared with the previous works using the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage, the quantum transfer can be significantly accelerated with the present scheme.

Mixed one-bit compressive sensing with applications to overexposure correction for CT reconstruction

When a measurement falls outside the quantization or measurable range, it becomes saturated and cannot be used in classical reconstruction methods. For example, in C-arm angiography systems, which provide projection radiography, fluoroscopy, digital subtraction angiography, and are widely used for medical diagnoses and interventions, the limited dynamic range of C-arm flat detectors leads to overexposure in some projections during an acquisition, such as imaging relatively thin body parts (e.g., the knee). Aiming at overexposure correction for computed tomography (CT) reconstruction, we in this paper propose a mixed one-bit compressive sensing (M1bit-CS) to acquire information from both regular and saturated measurements. This method is inspired by the recent progress on one-bit compressive sensing, which deals with only sign observations. Its successful applications imply that information carried by saturated measurements is useful to improve recovery quality. For the proposed M1bit-CS model, alternating direction methods of multipliers is developed and an iterative saturation detection scheme is established. Then we evaluate M1bit-CS on one-dimensional signal recovery tasks. In some experiments, the performance of the proposed algorithms on mixed measurements is almost the same as recovery on unsaturated ones with the same amount of measurements. Finally, we apply the proposed method to overexposure correction for CT reconstruction on a phantom and a simulated clinical image. The results are promising, as the typical streaking artifacts and capping artifacts introduced by saturated projection data are effectively reduced, yielding significant error reduction compared with existing algorithms based on extrapolation.

Inverse engineering rigorous adiabatic Hamiltonian for non-Hermitian system

We generalize the quantum adiabatic theorem to the non-Hermitian system and build a rigorous adiabaticity condition with respect to the adiabatic phase. The non-Hermitian Hamiltonian inverse engineering method is proposed for the purpose to adiabatically drive a artificial quantum state. For the sake of clearness, we take a concrete two-level system as an example to show the usefulness of the inverse engineering method. The numerical simulation result shows that our scheme can work well even under noise if the parameters are chosen appropriately. We can obtain the desired target state by adjusting extra rotating magnetic fields at a predefined time. Furthermore, certain noise and dissipation in the systems is no longer undesirable, but plays a positive role in our scheme. Therefore, our scheme could provide more choices for the realization of quantum-state engineering.

Arbitrary quantum state engineering in three-state systems via Counterdiabatic driving

A scheme for arbitrary quantum state engineering (QSE) in three-state systems is proposed. Firstly, starting from a set of complete orthogonal time-dependent basis with undetermined coefficients, a time-dependent Hamiltonian is derived via Counterdiabatic driving for the purpose of guiding the system to attain an arbitrary target state at a predefined time. Then, on request of the assumed target states, two single-mode driving protocols and a multi-mode driving protocol are proposed as examples to discuss the validity of the QSE scheme. The result of comparison between single-mode driving and multi-mode driving shows that multi-mode driving seems to have a wider rang of application prospect because it can drive the system to an arbitrary target state from an arbitrary initial state also at a predefined time even without the use of microwave fields for the transition between the two ground states. Moreover, for the purpose of discussion in the scheme's feasibility in practice, a polynomial ansatz as the simplest exampleis used to fix the pulses. The result shows that the pulses designed to implement the protocols are not hard to be realized in practice. At the end, QSE in higher-dimensional systems is also discussed in brief as a generalization example of the scheme.

Fast preparation of W states with superconducting quantum interference devices by using dressed states

In this paper, we propose a protocol to prepare W states with superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID) by using dressed states. Through choosing a set of dressed states suitably, the protocol can be used to accelerate the adiabatic passages while additional couplings are unnecessary. Moreover, we can optimize the evolution of the system with the restraint to the populations of the intermediate states by choosing suitable controlled parameters. Numerical simulations show that the protocol is robust against the parameter variations and decoherence mechanisms. Furthermore, the protocol is faster and more robust against the dephasing, compared with that by the adiabatic passages. As for the Rabi frequencies of pulses designed by the method, they can be expressed by the linear superpositions of Gaussian functions, which does not increase difficulties to the experiments. In addition, the protocol could be controlled and manipulated easily in experiments with a circuit quantum electrodynamics system.

Improving the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage via dissipative quantum dynamics

We propose a method to improve the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) via dissipative quantum dynamics, taking into account the dephasing effects. Fast and robust population transfer can be obtained with the scheme by the designed pulses and detuning, even though the initial state of the system is imperfect. With a concrete three-level system as an example, the influences of the imperfect initial state, variations in the control parameters, and various dissipation effects are discussed in detail. The numerical simulation shows that the scheme is insensitive to moderate fluctuations of experimental parameters and the relatively large dissipation effects of the excited state. Furthermore, the dominant dissipative factors, namely, the dephasing effects of the ground states and the imperfect initial state are no longer undesirable, in fact, they are the important resources to the scheme. Therefore, the scheme could provide more choices for the realization of the complete population transfer in the strong dissipative fields

Reverse engineering of a Hamiltonian by designing the evolution operators

We propose an effective and flexible scheme for reverse engineering of a Hamiltonian by designing the evolution operators to eliminate the terms of Hamiltonian which are hard to be realized in practice. Different from transitionless quantum driving (TQD) [31], the present scheme is focus on only one or parts of moving states in a D-dimension (D > 3) system. The numerical simulation shows that the present scheme not only contains the results of TQD, but also has more free parameters, which make this scheme more flexible. An example is given by using this scheme to realize the population transfer for a Rydberg atom. The influences of various decoherence processes are discussed by numerical simulation and the result shows that the scheme is fast and robust against the decoherence and operational imperfection. Therefore, this scheme may be used to construct a Hamiltonian which can be realized in experiments

Transitionless-based shortcuts for the fast and robust generation of W states

We propose a scheme to generate W states based on transitionles-based shortcuts technique in cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) system. In light of quantum Zeno dynamics, we first effectively design a system whose effective Hamiltonian is equivalent to the counter-diabatic driving Hamiltonian constructed by transitionless quantum driving, then, realize the W states' generation within this framework. For the sake of clearness, we describe two stale schemes for W states' generation via traditional methods: the adiabatic dark-state evolution and the quantum Zeno dynamics. The comparison among these three schemes shows the shortcut scheme is closely related to the other two but better than them. That is, numerical investigation demonstrates that the shortcut scheme is faster than the adiabatic one, and more robust against operational imperfection than the Zeno one. What is more, the present scheme is also robust against decoherence caused by spontaneous emission and photon loss.

Method for constructing shortcuts to adiabaticity by a substitute of counterdiabatic driving terms

We propose an efficientmethod to construct shortcuts to adiabaticity through designing a substitute Hamiltonian to try to avoid the defect in which the speed-up protocol' Hamiltonian may involve terms which are difficult to realize in practice. We show that as long as the counterdiabatic coupling terms-even only some of them-have been nullified by the additional Hamiltonian, the corresponding shortcuts to the adiabatic process could be constructed and the adiabatic process would be sped up. As an application example, we apply this method to the popular Landau-Zener model for the realization of fast population inversion. The results show that in both Hermitian and non-Hermitian systems, we can design different additional Hamiltonians to replace the traditional counterdiabatic driving Hamiltonian to speed up the process. This method provides many choices for designing additional terms of the Hamiltonian such that one can choose a realizable model in practice.

Shortcuts to adiabatic passage for fast generation of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states by transitionless quantum driving

Berry's approach on "transitionless quantum driving" shows how to set a Hamiltonian which drives the dynamics of a system along instantaneous eigenstates of a reference Hamiltonian to reproduce the same final result of an adiabatic process in a shorter time. In this paper, motivated by transitionless quantum driving, we construct shortcuts to adiabatic passage in a three-atom system to create the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states with the help of quantum Zeno dynamics and of non-resonant lasers. The influence of various decoherence processes is discussed by numerical simulation and the result proves that the scheme is fast and robust against decoherence and operational imperfection.

Motivated by transitionless quantum driving, we construct shortcuts to adiabatic passage in a three-atom system to create a singlet state with the help of quantum zeno dynamics and non-resonant lasers. The influence of various decoherence processes is discussed by numerical simulation and the results reveal that the scheme is fast and robust against decoherence and operational imperfection. We also investigate how to select the experimental parameters to control the cavity dissipation and atomic spontaneous emission which will have an application value in experiment.

Fast generation of N-atom Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state in separate coupled cavities via transitionless quantum driving

By jointly using quantum Zeno dynamics and the approach of "transitionless quantum driving (TQD)" proposed by Berry to construct shortcuts to adiabatic passage (STAP), we propose an efficient scheme to fast generate multiatom Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states in separate cavities connected by opitical fibers only by one-step manipulation. We first detail the generation of the three-atom GHZ states via TQD, then, we compare the proposed TQD scheme with the traditional ones with adiabatic passage. At last, the influence of various decoherence factors, such as spontaneous emission, cavity decay and fiber photon leakage, is discussed by numerical simulations. All the results show that the present TQD scheme is fast and insensitive to atomic spontaneous emission and fiber photon leakage. Furthermore, the scheme can be directly generalized to realize N-atom GHZ states generation by the same principle in theory.

Fast and noise-resistant implementation of quantum phase gates and creation of quantum entangled states

The "Lewis-Riesenfeld phases" which plays a crucial role in constructing shortcuts to adiabaticity may be a resource for the implementation of quantum phase gates. By combining "Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant" with "quantum Zeno dynamics", we propose an effective scheme of rapidly implementing $π$ phase gates via constructing shortcuts to adiabatic passage in a two-distant-atom-cavity system. The influence of various decoherence processes such as spontaneous emission and photon loss on the fidelity is discussed. It is noted that this scheme is insensitive to both two error sources. Additionally, a creation of N-atom cluster states is put forward as a typical example of the applications of the fast and noise-resistant phase gates. The study results show that the shortcuts idea is not only applicable in other logic gates with different systems, but also propagable for many quantum information tasks.

Shortcuts to adiabatic passage for multiparticle in distant cavities: Applications to fast and noise-resistant quantum population transer, entangled states' preparation and transition

In this paper, we study the fast and noise-resistant population transfer, quantum entangled states preparation, and quantum entangled states' transition by constructing the shortcuts to adiabatic passage (STAP) for multiparticle based on the approach of "Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants" in distant cavity quantum electronic dynamics (QED) system. Numerical simulation demonstrates that all of the schemes are fast and robust against the decoherence caused by atomic spontaneous emission and photon leakage. Moreover, not only the total operation time but also the robustness in each scheme against decoherence is irrelevant to the number of qubits. This might lead to a useful step toward realizing the fast and noise-resistant quantum information processing in current technology.

Efficient shortcuts to adiabatic passage for the fast populations transfer in multiparticle systems

Achieving fast populations transfer (FPT) in multiparticle systems based on the cavity quantum electronic dynamics (CQED) is an outstanding challenge. In this paper, motivated by the quantum Zeno dynamics (QZD), a shortcut for performing the FPT of ground states in multiparticle systems with the invariant based inverse engineering is proposed. Numerical simulation demonstrates that a perfect populations transfer of ground states in multiparticle systems can be rapidly achieved in one step, and the FPT is robust to both the cavity decay and atomic spontaneous emission. Additionally, this scheme is not only implemented without requiring extra complex conditions, but also insensitive to variations of the parameters.

Shortcuts to adiabatic passage for population transfer and maximum entanglement creation between two atoms in a cavity

We use the approach of "transitionless quantum driving" proposed by Berry to construct shortcuts to the population transfer and the creation of maximal entanglement between two $Λ$-type atoms based on the cavity quantum electronic dynamics (CQED) system. An effective Hamiltonian is designed by resorting to an auxiliary excited level, a classical driving field and an extra cavity field mode to supplement or substitute the original reference Hamiltonian, and steer the system evolution along its instantaneous eigenstates in an arbitrarily short time, speeding up the rate of population transfer and creation of maximal entanglement between the two atoms inside a cavity. Numerical simulation demonstrates that our shortcuts' performance is robust against the decoherences caused by atomic spontaneous emission and cavity photon leakage.

Generation of N-atom W-class states in spatially separated cavities

We propose a feasible and efficient scheme to generate $N$-atom $W$-class states in spatially separated cavities without using any classical driving pulses. We adopt the model in which the couplings between different atoms are mediated only by virtual excitations of the cavity and fiber fields, so the scheme is insensitive to the cavity decay and fiber photon leakage. We carry out both theoretical investigation in a decoherence-free subspace and numerical calculation accounting for decoherence due to the atomic spontaneous emission as well as the decay of cavity and fiber modes. The theoretical and numerical results agree in the large atom-cavity detuning regime. Our scheme proves to be useful in scalable distributed quantum networks.

Using shortcut to adiabatic passage for the ultrafast quantum state transfer in cavity QED system

We propose an alternative scheme to implement the quantum state transfer between two three-level atoms based on the invariant-based inverse engineering in cavity quantum electronic dynamics (QED) system. The quantum information can be ultrafast transferred between the atoms by taking advantage of the cavity field as a medium for exchanging quantum information speedily. Through designing the time-dependent laser pulse and atom-cavity coupling, we send the atoms through the cavity with a short time interval experiencing the two processes of the invariant dynamics between each atom and the cavity field simultaneously. Numerical simulation shows that the target state can be ultrafast populated with a high fidelity even when considering the atomic spontaneous emission and the photon leakage out of the cavity field. We also redesign a reasonable Gaussian-type wave form in the atom-cavity coupling for the realistic experiment operation.
