Weakly Supervised Anomaly Detection via Knowledge-Data Alignment

Anomaly detection (AD) plays a pivotal role in numerous web-based applications, including malware detection, anti-money laundering, device failure detection, and network fault analysis. Most methods, which rely on unsupervised learning, are hard to reach satisfactory detection accuracy due to the lack of labels. Weakly Supervised Anomaly Detection (WSAD) has been introduced with a limited number of labeled anomaly samples to enhance model performance. Nevertheless, it is still challenging for models, trained on an inadequate amount of labeled data, to generalize to unseen anomalies. In this paper, we introduce a novel framework Knowledge-Data Alignment (KDAlign) to integrate rule knowledge, typically summarized by human experts, to supplement the limited labeled data. Specifically, we transpose these rules into the knowledge space and subsequently recast the incorporation of knowledge as the alignment of knowledge and data. To facilitate this alignment, we employ the Optimal Transport (OT) technique. We then incorporate the OT distance as an additional loss term to the original objective function of WSAD methodologies. Comprehensive experimental results on five real-world datasets demonstrate that our proposed KDAlign framework markedly surpasses its state-of-the-art counterparts, achieving superior performance across various anomaly types.

Chiral Skyrmions Interacting with Chiral Flowers

The chiral nature of active matter plays an important role in the dynamics of active matter interacting with chiral structures. Skyrmions are chiral objects, and their interactions with chiral nanostructures can lead to intriguing phenomena. Here, we explore the random-walk dynamics of a thermally activated chiral skyrmion interacting with a chiral flower-like obstacle in a ferromagnetic layer, which could create topology-dependent outcomes. It is a spontaneous mesoscopic order-from-disorder phenomenon driven by the thermal fluctuations and topological nature of skyrmions that exists only in ferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic systems. The interactions between the skyrmions and chiral flowers at finite temperatures can be utilized to control the skyrmion position and distribution without applying any external driving force or temperature gradient. The phenomenon that thermally activated skyrmions are dynamically coupled to chiral flowers may provide a new way to design topological sorting devices.

Temporal-Aware Refinement for Video-based Human Pose and Shape Recovery

Though significant progress in human pose and shape recovery from monocular RGB images has been made in recent years, obtaining 3D human motion with high accuracy and temporal consistency from videos remains challenging. Existing video-based methods tend to reconstruct human motion from global image features, which lack detailed representation capability and limit the reconstruction accuracy. In this paper, we propose a Temporal-Aware Refining Network (TAR), to synchronously explore temporal-aware global and local image features for accurate pose and shape recovery. First, a global transformer encoder is introduced to obtain temporal global features from static feature sequences. Second, a bidirectional ConvGRU network takes the sequence of high-resolution feature maps as input, and outputs temporal local feature maps that maintain high resolution and capture the local motion of the human body. Finally, a recurrent refinement module iteratively updates estimated SMPL parameters by leveraging both global and local temporal information to achieve accurate and smooth results. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our TAR obtains more accurate results than previous state-of-the-art methods on popular benchmarks, i.e., 3DPW, MPI-INF-3DHP, and Human3.6M.

DASpeech: Directed Acyclic Transformer for Fast and High-quality Speech-to-Speech Translation

Direct speech-to-speech translation (S2ST) translates speech from one language into another using a single model. However, due to the presence of linguistic and acoustic diversity, the target speech follows a complex multimodal distribution, posing challenges to achieving both high-quality translations and fast decoding speeds for S2ST models. In this paper, we propose DASpeech, a non-autoregressive direct S2ST model which realizes both fast and high-quality S2ST. To better capture the complex distribution of the target speech, DASpeech adopts the two-pass architecture to decompose the generation process into two steps, where a linguistic decoder first generates the target text, and an acoustic decoder then generates the target speech based on the hidden states of the linguistic decoder. Specifically, we use the decoder of DA-Transformer as the linguistic decoder, and use FastSpeech 2 as the acoustic decoder. DA-Transformer models translations with a directed acyclic graph (DAG). To consider all potential paths in the DAG during training, we calculate the expected hidden states for each target token via dynamic programming, and feed them into the acoustic decoder to predict the target mel-spectrogram. During inference, we select the most probable path and take hidden states on that path as input to the acoustic decoder. Experiments on the CVSS Fr-En benchmark demonstrate that DASpeech can achieve comparable or even better performance than the state-of-the-art S2ST model Translatotron 2, while preserving up to 18.53x speedup compared to the autoregressive baseline. Compared with the previous non-autoregressive S2ST model, DASpeech does not rely on knowledge distillation and iterative decoding, achieving significant improvements in both translation quality and decoding speed. Furthermore, DASpeech shows the ability to preserve the speaker's voice of the source speech during translation.

Laminar and transiently disordered dynamics of a magnetic skyrmion pipe flow

The world is full of fluids that flow. The fluid nature of flowing skyrmionic quasiparticles is of fundamental physical interest and plays an essential role in the transport of many skyrmions. Here, we report the laminar and transiently disordered dynamic behaviors of many magnetic skyrmions flowing in a pipe channel. The skyrmion flow driven by a uniform current may show a lattice structural transition. The skyrmion flow driven by a non-uniform current shows a dynamically varying lattice structure. A large uniform current could result in the compression of skyrmions toward the channel edge, leading to the transition of the skyrmion pipe flow into an open-channel flow with a free surface. Namely, the width of the skyrmion flow could be adjusted by the driving current. Skyrmions on the free surface may form a single shear layer adjacent to the main skyrmion flow. In addition, although we focus on the skyrmion flow dynamics in a clean pipe channel without any pinning or defect effect, we also show that a variation of magnetic anisotropy in the pipe channel could lead to more complicated skyrmion flow dynamics and pathlines. Our results reveal the fluid nature of skyrmionic quasiparticles that may motivate future research on the complex flow physics of magnetic textures.

Mirror symmetric Gamma conjecture for del Pezzo surfaces

For a del Pezzo surface of degree $\geq 3$, we compute the oscillatory integral for its mirror Landau-Ginzburg model in the sense of Gross-Hacking-Keel [Mark Gross, Paul Hacking, and Sean Keel, "Mirror symmetry for log Calabi-Yau surfaces I". In: Publ. Math. Inst. Hautes Etudes Sci. 122 (2015), pp. 65-168]. We explicitly construct the mirror cycle of a line bundle and show that the leading order of the integral on this cycle involves the twisted Chern character and the Gamma class. This proves a version of the Gamma conjecture for non-toric Fano surfaces with an arbitrary K-group insertion.

LKPNR: LLM and KG for Personalized News Recommendation Framework

Accurately recommending candidate news articles to users is a basic challenge faced by personalized news recommendation systems. Traditional methods are usually difficult to grasp the complex semantic information in news texts, resulting in unsatisfactory recommendation results. Besides, these traditional methods are more friendly to active users with rich historical behaviors. However, they can not effectively solve the "long tail problem" of inactive users. To address these issues, this research presents a novel general framework that combines Large Language Models (LLM) and Knowledge Graphs (KG) into semantic representations of traditional methods. In order to improve semantic understanding in complex news texts, we use LLMs' powerful text understanding ability to generate news representations containing rich semantic information. In addition, our method combines the information about news entities and mines high-order structural information through multiple hops in KG, thus alleviating the challenge of long tail distribution. Experimental results demonstrate that compared with various traditional models, the framework significantly improves the recommendation effect. The successful integration of LLM and KG in our framework has established a feasible path for achieving more accurate personalized recommendations in the news field. Universal quantum computing based on magnetic domain wall qubits

Quantum computers allow to solve efficiently certain problems that are intractable for classical computers. For the realization of a quantum computer, a qubit design as the basic building block is a nontrivial starting point. We propose the utilization of nanoscale magnetic domain walls, which are stabilized by achiral energy, as the building blocks for a universal quantum computer made of ferromagnetic racetracks. In contrast to the domain walls stabilized by conventional Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions, these achiral domain walls are bistable and show two degenerate chirality forms. When the domain wall is extremely small, it can be viewed as a quantum mechanical object and the two degenerate chiralities of the domain walls can be used to encode the qubit states $\lvert 0 \rangle$ and $\lvert 1 \rangle$. We show that the single-qubit quantum gates are regulated by magnetic and electric fields, while the Ising exchange coupling facilitates the two-qubit gates. The integration of these quantum gates allows for a universal quantum computation. Our findings demonstrate a promising approach for achieving quantum computing through spin textures that exist in ferromagnetic materials.

Reversible magnetic domain reorientation induced by magnetic field pulses with fixed direction

Nanoscale magnetic domains with controllable configurations could be used for classical and quantum applications, where the switching of magnetization configurations is an essential operation for information processing. Here, we report that the magnetic domain reorientation in a notched ferromagnetic nanotrack can be realized and effectively controlled by applying uniform magnetic field pulses in a fixed in-plane direction perpendicular to the nanotrack. Our micromagnetic simulation results show that the configurations of magnetic domains in the notched nanotrack can be switched between a head-to-head state and a tail-to-tail state in a reversible manner driven by magnetic field pulses, while it is unnecessary to reverse the direction of the magnetic field. Such a unique magnetic domain reorientation dynamics is found to depend on magnetic parameters and nanotrack geometries. The reorientation dynamics of magnetic domains also depends on the strength and length of the applied magnetic field pulse. In addition, we point out that the notches at the center of the nanotrack play an important role for the stabilization of the head-to-head and tail-to-tail states during the magnetic domain reorientation. We also qualitatively explain the field-induced reorientation phenomenon with a simplified two-dimensional macrospin model. Our results may make it possible to build spintronic devices driven by a fixed magnetic field. Our findings may also motivate future studies to investigate the classical and quantum applications based on nanoscale magnetic domains.

Quantum logic control and precision measurements of molecular ions in a ring trap -- a new approach for testing fundamental symmetries

We present a new platform facilitating quantum logic control of polar molecular ions in a segmented ring ion trap, paving the way for precision measurements. This approach focuses on achieving near-unity state preparation and detection, as well as long spin coherence. A distinctive aspect lies in separating state preparation and detection conducted in a static frame, from parity-selective spin-precession in a rotating frame. This method can be applied to a wide range of ion species and will be used to search for the electron's electric dipole moment and the nuclear magnetic quadrupole moment.

Measurement of the high energy $γ$-rays from heavy ion reactions using Čerenkov detector

The energetic bremsstrahlung photons up to 100 MeV produced in heavy ion collisions can be used as a sensitive probe to the short range correlation in atomic nuclei. The energy of the $γ$-rays can be measured by collecting the Čerenkov light in medium induced by the fast electrons generated in Compton scattering or electromagnetic shower of the incident $γ$ ray. Two types of detectors, based on pure water and lead glass as the sensitive material respectively, are designed for the above purpose. The $γ$ response and optical photon propagation in detectors have been simulated based on the electromagnetic and optical processes in Geant4. The inherent energy resolution of $0.022+0.51/E_γ^{1/2}$ for water and $0.002+0.45/E_γ^{1/2}$ for lead glass are obtained. The geometry size of lead glass and water are optimized at $30\times 30 \times 30$ cm$^3$ and $60\times 60 \times 120$ cm$^3$, respectively, for detecting high energy $γ$-rays at 160 MeV. Hough transform method has been applied to reconstruct the direction of the incident $γ$-rays, giving the ability to distinguish experimentally the high-energy $γ$ rays produced in the reactions on the target from the random background cosmic ray muons.

High-precision and low-latency widefield diamond quantum sensing with neuromorphic vision sensors

During the past decade, interest has grown significantly in developing ultrasensitive widefield diamond magnetometry for various applications. Despite attempts to improve the adoption of conventional frame-based sensors, achieving high temporal resolution and sensitivity simultaneously remains a key challenge. This is largely due to the transfer and processing of massive amounts of sensor data to capture the widefield fluorescence intensity changes of spin defects in diamonds. In this study, we adopt a neuromorphic vision sensor to address this issue. This sensor pre-processes the detected signals in optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) measurements for quantum sensing, employing a working principle that closely resembles the operation of the human vision system. By encoding the changes of light intensity into spikes, this approach results in a vast dynamic range, high temporal resolution, and exceptional signal-to-background ratio. After a thorough evaluation of theoretical feasibility, our experiment with an off-the-shelf event camera demonstrated a 13x improvement in temporal resolution with comparable precision of detecting ODMR resonance frequencies compared with the state-of-the-art highly specialized frame-based approach. A specialized camera system with the same mechanism has the potential to enhance these benefits further. This performance improvement is primarily attributable to orders of magnitude smaller data volumes and, thus, reduced latency. We further showcase the deployment of this technology in monitoring dynamically modulated laser heating of gold nanoparticles coated on a diamond surface, a recognizably difficult task using existing approaches. The current development provides new insights for high-precision and low-latency widefield quantum sensing, with possibilities for integration with emerging memory devices for more efficient event-based data processing.

BayLing: Bridging Cross-lingual Alignment and Instruction Following through Interactive Translation for Large Language Models

Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable prowess in language understanding and generation. Advancing from foundation LLMs to instructionfollowing LLMs, instruction tuning plays a vital role in aligning LLMs to human preferences. However, the existing LLMs are usually focused on English, leading to inferior performance in non-English languages. In order to improve the performance for non-English languages, it is necessary to collect language-specific training data for foundation LLMs and construct language-specific instructions for instruction tuning, both of which are heavy loads. To minimize human workload, we propose to transfer the capabilities of language generation and instruction following from English to other languages through an interactive translation task. We have developed BayLing, an instruction-following LLM by utilizing LLaMA as the foundation LLM and automatically constructing interactive translation instructions for instructing tuning. Extensive assessments demonstrate that BayLing achieves comparable performance to GPT-3.5-turbo, despite utilizing a considerably smaller parameter size of only 13 billion. Experimental results on translation tasks show that BayLing achieves 95% of single-turn translation capability compared to GPT-4 with automatic evaluation and 96% of interactive translation capability compared to GPT-3.5-turbo with human evaluation. To estimate the performance on general tasks, we created a multi-turn instruction test set called BayLing-80. The experimental results on BayLing-80 indicate that BayLing achieves 89% of performance compared to GPT-3.5-turbo. BayLing also demonstrates outstanding performance on knowledge assessment of Chinese GaoKao and English SAT, second only to GPT-3.5-turbo among a multitude of instruction-following LLMs. Demo, homepage, code and models of BayLing are available.

Carbon emissions and sustainability of launching 5G mobile networks in China

Since 2021, China has deployed more than 2.1 million 5G base stations to increase the network capacity and provide ubiquitous digital connectivity for mobile terminals. However, the launch of 5G networks also exacerbates the misalignment between cellular traffic and energy consumption, which reduces carbon efficiency - the amount of network traffic that can be delivered for each unit of carbon emission. In this study, we develop a large-scale data-driven framework to estimate the carbon emissions induced by mobile networks. We show that the decline in carbon efficiency leads to a carbon efficiency trap, estimated to cause additional carbon emissions of 23.82 +- 1.07 megatons in China. To mitigate the misalignment and improve energy efficiency, we propose DeepEnergy, an energy-saving method leveraging collaborative deep reinforcement learning and graph neural networks. DeepEnergy models complex collaboration among cells, making it possible to effectively coordinate the working state of tens of thousands of cells, which could help over 71% of Chinese provinces avoid carbon efficiency traps. In addition, applying DeepEnergy is estimated to reduce 20.90 +- 0.98 megatons of carbon emissions at the national level in 2023. We further assess the effects of adopting renewable energy and discover that the mobile network could accomplish more than 50% of its net-zero goal by integrating DeepEnergy and solar energy systems. Our study provides insight into carbon emission mitigation in 5G network infrastructure launching in China and overworld, paving the way towards achieving sustainable development goals and future net-zero mobile networks.

CMOT: Cross-modal Mixup via Optimal Transport for Speech Translation

End-to-end speech translation (ST) is the task of translating speech signals in the source language into text in the target language. As a cross-modal task, end-to-end ST is difficult to train with limited data. Existing methods often try to transfer knowledge from machine translation (MT), but their performances are restricted by the modality gap between speech and text. In this paper, we propose Cross-modal Mixup via Optimal Transport CMOT to overcome the modality gap. We find the alignment between speech and text sequences via optimal transport and then mix up the sequences from different modalities at a token level using the alignment. Experiments on the MuST-C ST benchmark demonstrate that CMOT achieves an average BLEU of 30.0 in 8 translation directions, outperforming previous methods. Further analysis shows CMOT can adaptively find the alignment between modalities, which helps alleviate the modality gap between speech and text. Code is publicly available at https://github.com/ictnlp/CMOT.

Attention-guided Multi-step Fusion: A Hierarchical Fusion Network for Multimodal Recommendation

The main idea of multimodal recommendation is the rational utilization of the item's multimodal information to improve the recommendation performance. Previous works directly integrate item multimodal features with item ID embeddings, ignoring the inherent semantic relations contained in the multimodal features. In this paper, we propose a novel and effective aTtention-guided Multi-step FUsion Network for multimodal recommendation, named TMFUN. Specifically, our model first constructs modality feature graph and item feature graph to model the latent item-item semantic structures. Then, we use the attention module to identify inherent connections between user-item interaction data and multimodal data, evaluate the impact of multimodal data on different interactions, and achieve early-step fusion of item features. Furthermore, our model optimizes item representation through the attention-guided multi-step fusion strategy and contrastive learning to improve recommendation performance. The extensive experiments on three real-world datasets show that our model has superior performance compared to the state-of-the-art models.

Chemical models of adenine precursors cyanamide and carbodiimide in the interstellar medium

Cyanamide (NH2CN) and its isomer, carbodiimide (HNCNH), may form adenine in the interstellar medium (ISM) via a series of reactions. Therefore, they are considered key prebiotic molecules in the study of the origin of life. We used the three-phase NAUTILUS chemical code, which includes the gas, the dust surface, and the icy mantle, to investigate the formation and destruction of cyanamide and carbodiimide. We added over 200 new chemical reactions of the two isomers and related species, and established a relatively complete network. We applied cold core, hot corino/core and shock models to simulate the different physical environments, and found that the two isomers are mainly produced by the free radical reactions on grain surfaces. Our simulated results suggest that cyanamide and carbodiimide molecules come from surface chemistry at early evolutionary stages. Then they are released back to the gas phase, either by thermal process (in hot cores, hot corinos) or shock-induced desorption (in shock regions). We speculate that it is an inefficient route to form a tautomer of adenine by starting from molecules cyanoacetylene (C3NH), cyanamide and carbodiimide in ISM.
