Anisotropic oscillator with pseudo-hermiticity and its noncommutative extension

When a non-hermitian hamiltonian has a certain symmetry, such as the PT pseudo-hermiticity, it is still possible that the hamiltonian has a real spectrum. In this note, by adding an imaginary potential proportional to ip_1p_2 to the hamiltonian of an anisotropic planar oscillator, we construct a PT pseudo-hermitian hamiltonian and obtain its real spectrum. In addition, we find that the reality of the energy spectrum remains when the model is extended to the canonical noncommutative space.

Massive charged particle's tunneling from spherical charged black hole

We generalize the Parikh-Wilczek scheme to the tunneling of a massive charged particle from a general spherical charged black hole. We obtain that the tunneling probability depends on the energy, the mass and the charge of the particle. In particular, the modified Hawking temperature is related to the charge. Only at the leading order approximation can the standard Hawking temperature be reproduced. We take the Reissner-Nordström black hole as an example to clarify our points of view, and find that the accumulation of Hawking radiation makes it approach an extreme black hole.

Degrees of freedom of $f(T)$ gravity

We investigate the Hamiltonian formulation of $f(T)$ gravity and find that there are five degrees of freedom. The six first class constraints corresponding to the local Lorentz transformation in Teleparallel gravity become second class constraints in $f(T)$ gravity, which leads to the appearance of three extra degrees of freedom and the violation of the local Lorentz invariance in $f(T)$ gravity. In general, there are $D-1$ extra degrees of freedom for $f(T)$ gravity in $D$ dimensions, and this implies that the extra degrees of freedom correspond to one massive vector field or one massless vector field with one scalar field.

Classical Mechanics on Noncommutative Space with Lie-algebraic Structure

We investigate the kinetics of a nonrelativistic particle interacting with a constant external force on a Lie-algebraic noncommutative space. The structure constants of a Lie algebra, also called noncommutative parameters, are constrained in general due to some algebraic properties, such as the antisymmetry and Jacobi identity. Through solving the constraint equations the structure constants satisfy, we obtain two new sorts of algebraic structures, each of which corresponds to one type of noncommutative spaces. Based on such types of noncommutative spaces as the starting point, we analyze the classical motion of the particle interacting with a constant external force by means of the Hamiltonian formalism on a Poisson manifold. Our results {\em not only} include that of a recent work as our special cases, {\em but also} provide new trajectories of motion governed mainly by marvelous extra forces. The extra forces with the unimaginable $t\dot{x}$-, $\dot{(xx)}$-, and $\ddot{(xx)}$-dependence besides with the usual $t$-, $x$-, and $\dot{x}$-dependence, originating from a variety of noncommutativity between different spatial coordinates and between spatial coordinates and momenta as well, deform greatly the particle's ordinary trajectories we are quite familiar with on the Euclidean (commutative) space.

Mathieu equation and Elliptic curve

We present a relation between the Mathieu equation and a particular elliptic curve. We find that the Floquet exponent of the Mathieu equation, for both $q<<1$ and $q>>1$, can be obtained from the integral of a differential one form along the two homology cycles of the elliptic curve. Certain higher order differential operators are needed to generate the WKB expansion. We provide a fifth order proof.

U(2,2) gravity on noncommutative space with symplectic structure

The classical Einstein's gravity can be reformulated from the constrained U(2,2) gauge theory on the ordinary (commutative) four-dimensional spacetime. Here we consider a noncommutative manifold with a symplectic structure and construct a U(2,2) gauge theory on such a manifold by using the covariant coordinate method. Then we use the Seiberg-Witten map to express noncommutative quantities in terms of their commutative counterparts up to the first-order in noncommutative parameters. After imposing constraints we obtain a noncommutative gravity theory described by the Lagrangian with up to nonvanishing first order corrections in noncommutative parameters. This result coincides with our previous one obtained for the noncommutative SL(2,C) gravity.

SL(2,C) gravity on noncommutative space with Poisson structure

The Einstein's gravity theory can be formulated as an SL(2,C) gauge theory in terms of spinor notations. In this paper, we consider a noncommutative space with the Poisson structure and construct an SL(2,C) formulation of gravity on such a space. Using the covariant coordinate technique, we build a gauge invariant action in which, according to the Seiberg-Witten map, the physical degrees of freedom are expressed in terms of their commutative counterparts up to the first order in noncommutative parameters.

Magnetic expansion of Nekrasov theory: the SU(2) pure gauge theory

It is recently claimed by Nekrasov and Shatashvili that the $\mathcal {N}=2$ gauge theories in the $Ω$ background with $ε_1=\hbar, ε_2=0$ are related to the quantization of certain algebraic integrable systems. We study the special case of SU(2) pure gauge theory, the corresponding integrable model is the A$_1$ Toda model, which reduces to the sine-Gordon quantum mechanics problem. The quantum effects can be expressed as the WKB series written analytically in terms of hypergeometric functions. We obtain the magnetic and dyonic expansions of the Nekrasov theory by studying the property of hypergeometric functions in the magnetic and dyonic regions on the moduli space. We also discuss the relation between the electric-magnetic duality of gauge theory and the action-action duality of the integrable system.

Noncommutative Extension of Minkowski Spacetime and Its Primary Application

We propose a noncommutative extension of the Minkowski spacetime by introducing a well-defined proper time from the kappa-deformed Minkowski spacetime related to the standard basis. The extended Minkowski spacetime is commutative, i.e. it is based on the standard Heisenberg commutation relations, but some information of noncommutativity is encoded through the proper time to it. Within this framework, by simply considering the Lorentz invariance we can construct field theory models that comprise noncommutative effects naturally. In particular, we find a kind of temporal fuzziness related to noncommutativity in the noncommutative extension of the Minkowski spacetime. As a primary application, we investigate three types of formulations of chiral bosons, deduce the lagrangian theories of noncommutative chiral bosons and quantize them consistently in accordance with Dirac's method, and further analyze the self-duality of the lagrangian theories in terms of the parent action approach.

Dual Actions for Born-Infeld and Dp-Brane Theories

Dual actions with respect to U(1) gauge fields for Born-Infeld and $Dp$-brane theories are reexamined. Taking into account an additional condition, i.e. a corollary to the field equation of the auxiliary metric, one obtains an alternative dual action that does not involve the infinite power series in the auxiliary metric given by ref. \cite{s14}, but just picks out the first term from the series formally. New effective interactions of the theories are revealed. That is, the new dual action gives rise to an effective interaction in terms of one interaction term rather than infinite terms of different (higher) orders of interactions physically. However, the price paid for eliminating the infinite power series is that the new action is not quadratic but highly nonlinear in the Hodge dual of a $(p-1)$-form field strength. This non-linearity is inevitable to the requirement the two dual actions are equivalent.

New Born-Infeld and $Dp$-Brane Actions under 2-Metric and 3-Metric Prescriptions

The parent action method is utilized to the Born-Infeld and $Dp$-brane theories. Various new forms of Born-Infeld and $Dp$-brane actions are derived by using this systematic approach, in which both the already known 2-metric and newly proposed 3-metric prescriptions are considered. An auxiliary worldvolume tensor field, denoted by $ω_{μν}$, is introduced and treated probably as an additional worldvolume metric because it plays a similar role to that of the auxiliary worldvolume (also called {\em intrinsic}) metric $γ_{μν}$. Some properties, such as duality, permutation and Weyl invariance as a local worldvolume symmetry of the new forms are analyzed. In particular, a new symmetry, i.e. the double Weyl invariance is discovered in 3-metric forms.

Hamiltonian Analyses of New Set of Dual Actions of Bosonic $p$-Branes

We make Hamiltonian analyses of the new set of dual bosonic $p$-brane (including string) actions which contain high non-linearity. The difficulties exist in two basic steps of the Hamiltonian procedure, that is, in calculating canonical momenta and in solving velocities in terms of momenta. The former difficulty can be overcome by an ADM reparametrization of induced metrics, while the latter may be circumvented by some modification to the usual Hamiltonian procedure. We also compare our results with that of the other set composed of known dual $p$-brane actions.

A Note on Tachyons in the $D3+{\bar {D3}}$ System

The periodic bounce of Born-Infeld theory of $D3$-branes is derived, and the BPS limit of infinite period is discussed as an example of tachyon condensation. The explicit bounce solution to the Born--Infeld action is interpreted as an unstable fundamental string stretched between the brane and its antibrane.

Complete Intersecting Non-Extreme p-Branes

We give general intersecting brane solutions without assuming any restriction on the metric in supergravity coupled to a dilaton and antisymmetric tensor fields in arbitrary dimensions $D$. The result is a general class of intersecting brane solutions which interpolate the non-extreme solutions of type 1 and 2. We also discuss the relation of our solutions to the known single brane solution.

Newton Law in DGP Brane-World with Semi-Infinite Extra Dimension

Newton potential for DGP brane-world scenario is examined when the extra dimension is semi-infinite. The final form of the potential involves a self-adjoint extension parameter $α$, which plays a role of an additional mass (or distance) scale. The striking feature of Newton potential in this setup is that the potential behaves as seven-dimensional in long range when $α$ is nonzero. For small $α$ there is an intermediate range where the potential is five-dimensional. Five-dimensional Newton constant decreases with increase of $α$ from zero. In the short range the four-dimensional behavior is recovered. The physical implication of this result is discussed in the context of the accelerating behavior of universe.

Chiral Bosons in Noncommutative Spacetime

Underlying a general noncommutative algebra with both noncommutative coordinates and noncommutative momenta in a (1+1)-dimensional spacetime, a chiral boson Lagrangian with manifest Lorentz covariance is proposed by linearly imposing a generalized self-duality condition on a noncommutative generalization of massless real scalar fields. A significant property uncovered for noncommutative chiral bosons is that the left- and right-moving chiral scalars cannot be distinguished from each other, which originates from the noncommutativity of coordinates and momenta. An interesting result is that Dirac's method can be consistently applied to the constrained system whose Lagrangian explicitly contains space and time. The self-duality of the noncommutative chiral boson action does not exist.

Parent Actions, Dualities and New Weyl-invariant Actions of Bosonic p-branes

By using the systematic approach of parent action method, we derive one Weyl-noninvariant and two Weyl-invariant actions of bosonic $p$-branes ($p\geq 2$) starting from the Nambu-Goto action, and establish the duality symmetries in this set of four actions. Moreover, we discover a new bosonic $p$-brane action (including the string theory) and deduce two corresponding Weyl-invariant formulations by proposing a new special parent action. We find that the same duality symmetries as those mentioned above exist in this new set of actions. The new $p$-brane actions are also briefly analyzed.
