Determine Arbitrary Feynman Integrals by Vacuum Integrals

By introducing an auxiliary parameter, we find a new representation for Feynman integrals, which defines a Feynman integral by analytical continuation of a series containing only vacuum integrals. The new representation therefore conceptually translates the problem of computing Feynman integrals to the problem of performing analytical continuations. As an application of the new representation, we use it to construct a novel reduction method for multi-loop Feynman integrals, which is expected to be more efficient than known integration-by-parts reduction method. Using the new method, we successfully reduced all complicated two-loop integrals in $gg\to HH$ process and $gg\to ggg$ process.

NLO Effects for Doubly Heavy Baryon in QCD Sum Rules

With the QCD sum rules approach, we study the newly discovered doubly heavy baryon $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$. We analytically calculate the next-to-leading order (NLO) contribution to the perturbative part of $J^{P} = \frac{1}{2}^{+}$ baryon current with two identical heavy quarks, and then reanalyze the mass of $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ at the NLO level. We find that the NLO correction significantly improves both scheme dependence and scale dependence, whereas it is hard to control these theoretical uncertainties at leading order. With the NLO contribution, the baryon mass is estimated to be $m_{Ξ_{cc}^{++}} = 3.66_{-0.10}^{+0.08} \text{~GeV}$, which is consistent with the LHCb measurement.

$J/ψ$ polarization in the CGC+NRQCD approach

We compute the $J/ψ$ polarization observables $λ_θ$, $λ_ϕ$, $λ_{θϕ}$ in a Color Glass Condensate (CGC) + nonrelativistic QCQ (NRQCD) formalism that includes contributions from both color singlet and color octet intermediate states. Our results are compared to low $p_T$ data on $J/ψ$ polarization from the LHCb and ALICE experiments on proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and 8 TeV. Our CGC+NRQCD computation provides a better description of data for $p_T \leq 15$ GeV relative to extant next-to-leading (NLO) calculations within the collinear factorization framework. These results suggest that higher order computations in the CGC+NRQCD framework have the potential to greatly improve the accuracy of extracted values of the NRQCD universal long distance matrix elements.

Extracting Parton Distribution Functions from Lattice QCD Calculations

Parton distribution functions (PDFs) are nonperturbative quantities describing the relation between a hadron and quarks and gluons within it. We propose to extract PDFs from QCD global analysis of "data" generated by lattice QCD calculations of good "lattice cross sections", which are basically single-hadron matrix elements that are lattice QCD calculable and perturbative QCD factorizable into the PDFs. To demonstrate the existence of good "lattice cross sections", we take quasi-quark distribution introduced by Ji [1] as a case study to show that it could be factorized into the PDFs to all orders in perturbation theory if it can be multiplicatively renormalized. We calculate the factorized coefficients at the next-to-leading order in $α_s$.

Semi-analytical calculation of gluon fragmentation into ${^{1}\hspace{-0.6mm}S_{0}^{[1,8]}}$ quarkonia at next-to-leading order

We calculate the NLO corrections for the gluon fragmentation functions to a heavy quark-antiquark pair in ${^{1}\hspace{-0.6mm}S_{0}^{[1]}}$ or ${^{1}\hspace{-0.6mm}S_{0}^{[8]}}$ state within NRQCD factorization. We use integration-by-parts reduction to reduce the original expression to simpler master integrals (MIs), and then set up differential equations for these MIs. After calculating the boundary conditions, MIs can be obtained by solving the differential equations numerically. Our results are expressed in terms of asymptotic expansions at singular points of $z$ (light-cone momentum fraction carried by the quark-antiquark pair), which can not only give FFs results with very high precision at any value of $z$, but also provide fully analytical structure at these singularities. We find that the NLO corrections are significant, with K-factors larger than 2 in most regions. The NLO corrections may have important impact on heavy quarkonia (e.g. $η_c$ and $J/ψ$) production at the LHC.

Event engineering studies for heavy flavor production and hadronization in high multiplicity hadron-hadron and hadron-nucleus collisions

Heavy flavor measurements in high multiplicity proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions at collider energies enable unique insights into their production and hadronization mechanism because experimental and theoretical uncertainties cancel in ratios of their cross-sections relative to minimum bias events. We explore such event engineering using the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) effective field theory to compute short distance charmonium cross-sections. The CGC is combined with heavy-quark fragmentation functions to compute $D$-meson cross-sections; for the $J/ψ$, hadronization is described employing Nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) and an Improved Color Evaporation model. Excellent agreement is found between the CGC computations and the LHC heavy flavor data in high multiplicity events. Event engineering in this CGC+NRQCD framework reveals a very rapid growth in the fragmentation of the $^3S_1^{[8]}$ state in rare events relative to minimum bias events.

Multiplicative renormalizability of quasi-parton operators

Extracting parton distribution functions (PDFs) from lattice QCD calculation of quasi-PDFs has been actively pursued in recent years. We extend our proof of the multiplicative renormalizability of quasi-quark operators in Ref. [1] to quasi-gluon operators, and demonstrated that quasi-gluon operators could be multiplicatively renormalized to all orders in perturbation theory, without mixing with other operators. We find that using a gauge-invariant UV regulator is essential for achieving this proof. With the multiplicative renormalizability of both quasi-quark and quasi-gluon operators, and QCD collinear factorization of hadronic matrix elements of there operators into PDFs, extracting PDFs from lattice QCD calculated hadronic matrix elements of quasi-parton operators could have a solid theoretical foundation.

Unified framework for heavy flavor and quarkonium production in high multiplicity p+p and p+A collisions at RHIC and LHC

We discuss the production of $D$-mesons and $J/ψ$ in high multiplicity proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions within the Color-Glass-Condensate (CGC) framework. We demonstrate that the modification of the LHC data on $D$ and $J/ψ$ yields in high multiplicity events relative to minimum bias events arise from a significant enhancement of the gluon saturation scales of the corresponding rare parton configurations in the colliding protons and nuclei. For a given event multiplicity, we predict these relative yields to be energy independent from $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV at RHIC to the highest LHC energies.

A Systematic and Efficient Method to Compute Multi-loop Master Integrals

We propose a novel method to compute multi-loop master integrals by constructing and numerically solving a system of ordinary differential equations, with almost trivial boundary conditions. Thus it can be systematically applied to problems with arbitrary kinematic configurations. Numerical tests show that our method can not only achieve results with high precision, but also be much faster than the only existing systematic method sector decomposition. As a by product, we find a new strategy to compute scalar one-loop integrals without reducing them to master integrals.

$ψ(2S)$ versus $J/ψ$ suppression in proton-nucleus collisions from factorization violating soft color exchanges

We argue that the large suppression of the $ψ(2S)$ inclusive cross-section relative to the $J/ψ$ inclusive cross-section in proton-nucleus (p+A) collisions can be attributed to factorization breaking effects in the formation of quarkonium. These factorization breaking effects arise from soft color exchanges between charm-anticharm pairs undergoing hadronization and comoving partons that are long-lived on time scales of quarkonium formation. We compute the short distance pair production of heavy quarks in the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) effective field theory and employ an improved Color Evaporation model (ICEM) to describe their hadronization into quarkonium at large distances. The combined CGC+ICEM model provides a quantitative description of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ data in proton-proton (p+p) collisions from both RHIC and the LHC. Factorization breaking effects in hadronization, due to additional parton comovers in the nucleus, are introduced heuristically by imposing a cutoff $Λ$, representing the momentum kick from soft color exchanges, in the ICEM model. Such soft exchanges have no perceptible effect on $J/ψ$ suppression in p+A collisions. In contrast, the interplay of the physics of these soft exchanges at large distances, with the physics of semi-hard rescattering at short distances, causes a significant additional suppression of $ψ(2S)$ yields relative to that of the $J/ψ$. A good fit of all RHIC and LHC $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ data, for transverse momenta $P_\perp\leq 5$ GeV in p+p and p+A collisions, is obtained for $Λ\sim 10$ MeV.

Exploring hadrons' partonic structure using ab initio lattice QCD calculations

Following our previous proposal [1], we construct a class of good "lattice cross sections" (LCSs), from which we could study partonic structure of hadrons from ab initio lattice QCD calculations. These good LCSs, on the one hand, can be calculated directly in lattice QCD, and on the other hand, can be factorized into parton distribution functions (PDFs) with calculable coefficients, in the same way as QCD factorization for factorizable hadronic cross sections. PDFs could be extracted from QCD global analysis of the lattice QCD generated data of LCSs. We also show that proposed functions for lattice QCD calculation of PDFs in the literature are special cases of these good LCSs.

On the Renormalizability of Quasi Parton Distribution Functions

Quasi-parton distribution functions have received a lot of attentions in both perturbative QCD and lattice QCD communities in recent years because they not only carry good information on the parton distribution functions, but also could be evaluated by lattice QCD simulations. However, unlike the parton distribution functions, the quasi-parton distribution functions have perturbative ultraviolet power divergences because they are not defined by twist-2 operators. In this paper, we identify all sources of ultraviolet divergences for the quasi-parton distribution functions in coordinate-space, and demonstrate that power divergences, as well as all logarithmic divergences can be renormalized multiplicatively to all orders in QCD perturbation theory.

Analytical calculation for the gluon fragmentation into spin-triplet S-wave quarkonium

Fragmentation is the dominant mechanism for hadron production with high transverse momentum. For spin-triplet S-wave heavy quarkonium production, contribution of gluon fragmenting to color-singlet channel has been numerically calculated since 1993. However, there is still no analytic expression available up to now because of its complexity. In this paper, we calculate both polarization-summed and polarized fragmentation functions of gluon fragmenting to a heavy quark-antiquark pair with quantum number $^3S_1^{[1]}$. Our calculations are performed in two different frameworks. One is the widely used nonrelativistic QCD factorization, and the other is the newly proposed soft gluon factorization. In either case, we calculate at both leading order and next-to-leading order in velocity expansion. All of our final results are presented in terms of compact analytic expressions.

Matching issue in quasi parton distribution approach

In recent years, the quasi parton distribution has been introduced for extracting the parton distribution functions from lattice QCD simulations. The quasi and standard distribution share the same perturbative collinear singularity and the renormalized quasi distribution can be factorized into the standard distribution with a perturbative matching factor. The quasi parton distribution is known to have power-law UV divergences, which do not exist in the standard distribution. We discuss in this talk the nonperturbative renormalization scheme for the power divergence. We also demonstrate the perturbative matching of the quasi quark distribution between continuum and lattice at the one-loop.

Rotation-invariant observables in polarization measurements

Polarization measurements provide a detailed method to test the Standard Model and to search for new physics. Most previous studies depend on pre-selected coordinates, which blurs the significance of the results. The construction of two rotation-invariant observables in vector boson decay into a fermion pair has been proved to be a big success. In this work, we show that there are more rotation-invariant observables and provide a general recipe to find all of them in an arbitrary decay process. Taking spin-1/2 and spin-1 particle decay processes as examples, we calculate the explicit expressions of all rotation-invariant observables, which can serve as a robust test of the detector acceptance and help the analysis of experimental data.

Quarkonium Production in an Improved Color Evaporation Model

We propose an improved version of the color evaporation model to describe heavy quarkonium production. In contrast to the traditional color evaporation model, we impose the constraint that the invariant mass of the intermediate heavy quark-antiquark pair to be larger than the mass of produced quarkonium. We also introduce a momentum shift between heavy quark-antiquark pair and the quarkonium. Numerical calculations show that our model can describe the charmonium yields as well as ratio of $ψ^\prime$ over $J/ψ$ better than the traditional color evaporation model.

Practical quasi parton distribution functions

A completely new strategy to calculate parton distribution functions on the lattice has recently been proposed. In this method, lattice calculable observables, called quasi distributions, are related to normal distributions. The quasi distributions are known to contain power-law UV divergences arise from a Wilson line in the non-local operator, while the normal distributions only have logatithmic UV divergences. We propose possible method to subtract the power divegence to make the matching of the quasi with the normal distributions well-defined. We also demonstrate the matching of the quasi quark distribution between continuum and lattice implementing the power divergence subtraction. The matching calculations are carried out by one-loop perturbation.

Fragmentation contributions to hadroproduction of prompt $J/ψ$, $χ_{cJ}$, and $ψ(2S)$ states

We compute fragmentation corrections to hadroproduction of the quarkonium states $J/ψ$, $χ_{cJ}$, and $ψ(2S)$ at leading power in $m_c^2/p_T^2$, where $m_c$ is the charm-quark mass and $p_T$ is the quarkonium transverse momentum. The computation is carried out in the framework of nonrelativistic QCD. We include corrections to the parton-production cross sections through next-to-leading order in the strong coupling $α_s$ and corrections to the fragmentation functions through second order in $α_s$. We also sum leading logarithms of $p_T^2/m_c^2$ to all orders in perturbation theory. We find that, when we combine these leading-power fragmentation corrections with fixed-order calculations through next-to-leading order in $α_s$, we are able to obtain good fits for $p_T\geq 10$ GeV to hadroproduction cross sections that were measured at the Tevatron and the LHC. Using values for the nonperturbative long-distance matrix elements that we extract from the cross-section fits, we make predictions for the polarizations of the quarkonium states. We obtain good agreement with measurements of the polarizations, with the exception of the CDF Run II measurement of the prompt $J/ψ$ polarization, for which the agreement is only fair. In the predictions for the prompt-$J/ψ$ cross sections and polarizations, we take into account feeddown from the $χ_{cJ}$ and $ψ(2S)$ states.
