Does QFT make sense in non-integer dimensions?

We revisit the old problem of analytically continuing QFTs to fractional dimension $d\in\mathbb C$. We observe that common theories like QCD and QED have branch cuts in the complex $d$ plane. In particular, many operators in their low-energy CFT have OPEs and scaling dimensions that jump as a function of $d$.

A note on entanglement entropy and topological defects in symmetric orbifold CFTs

In this brief note we calculate the entanglement entropy in $M^{\otimes N}/S_N$ symmetric orbifold CFTs in the presence of topological defects, which were recently constructed in \cite{Gutperle:2024vyp,Knighton:2024noc}. We consider both universal defects which realize $Rep(S_N)$ non-invertible symmetry and non-universal defects. We calculate the sub-leading defect entropy/g-factor for defects at the boundary entangling surface as well as inside it.

Non-invertible symmetries in $S_N$ orbifold CFTs and holography

We study non-invertible defects in two-dimensional $S_N$ orbifold CFTs. We construct universal defects which do not depend on the details of the seed CFT and hence exist in any orbifold CFT. Additionally, we investigate non-universal defects arising from the topological defects of the seed CFT. We argue that there exist universal defects that are non-trivial in the large-$N$ limit, making them relevant for the AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ correspondence. We then focus on AdS$_3\times$S$^3\times \mathcal M_4$ with one unit of NS-NS flux and propose an explicit realization of these defects on the worldsheet.

Quantum corrections to finite radius holography and holographic entanglement entropy

We calculate quantum corrections to holographic entanglement entropy in the proposed duality between $T\bar{T}$-deformed holographic 2D CFTs and gravity in AdS$_{3}$ with a finite cutoff. We first establish the dictionary between the two theories by mapping the flow equation of the deformed CFT to the bulk Wheeler-DeWitt equation. The latter reduces to an ordinary differential equation for the sphere partition function, which we solve to find the entanglement entropy for an entangling surface consisting of two antipodal points on a sphere. The entanglement entropy in the inverse central charge expansion yields the expectation value of the bulk length operator plus the entropy of length fluctuations, in accordance with the Ryu--Takayanagi formula and its generalization due to Faulkner, Lewkowycz, and Maldacena. Special attention is paid to the conformal mode problem and its resolution by a choice of contour for the gravitational path integral.

Complexity growth rates for AdS black holes in massive gravity and $f(R)$ gravity

The "complexity = action" duality states that the quantum complexity is equal to the action of the stationary AdS black holes within the Wheeler-DeWitt patch at late time approximation. We compute the action growth rates of the neutral and charged black holes in massive gravity and the neutral, charged and Kerr-Newman black holes in $f(R)$ gravity to test this conjecture. Besides, we investigate the effects of the massive graviton terms, higher derivative terms and the topology of the black hole horizon on the complexity growth rate.

Fermion localization mechanism with derivative geometrical coupling on branes

In order to localize fermions on branes with codimension one, one usually introduces the Yukawa coupling between fermions and background scalar fields or the recently proposed derivative fermion-scalar coupling in [Phys. Rev. D 89 (2014) 086001]. In this paper, we explore the coupling between a spinor field $Ψ$ and the scalar curvature of spacetime $R$, $ηΨΓ^M\partial_M F(R)γ^5\barΨ$ with $F(R)$ a function of $R$, to investigate localization of the fermion. Because of $Z_2$ symmetry of the extra dimension, the new coupling mechanism proposed here can easily deal with the problem encountered in the Yukawa coupling with even background scalar fields. More importantly, the new mechanism will also work for the branes without background scalar fields. By investigating three examples, we find that fermions can be localized on the branes with the new mechanism.
