Global dynamics in a predator-prey model with cooperative hunting and Allee effect and bifurcation induced by diffusion and delays

We consider the local bifurcation and global dynamics of a predator-prey model with cooperative hunting and Allee effect. For the model with weak cooperation, we prove the existence of limit cycle, heteroclinic cycle at a threshold of conversion rate $p=p^{\#}$. When $p>p^{\#}$, both species go extinct, and when $p<p^{\#}$, there is a separatrix. The species with initial population above the separatrix finally become extinct; otherwise, they coexist or oscillate sustainably. In the case with strong cooperation, we exhibit the complex dynamics of system in three different cases, including limit cycle, loop of heteroclinic orbits among three equilibria, and homoclinic cycle. Moreover, we find diffusion may induce Turing instability and Turing-Hopf bifurcation, leaving the system with spatially inhomogeneous distribution of the species, coexistence of two different spatial-temporal oscillations. Finally, we investigate Hopf and double Hopf bifurcations of the diffusive system induced by two delays.

Two delays induce Hopf bifurcation and double Hopf bifurcation in a diffusive Leslie-Gower predator-prey system

In this paper, the dynamics of a modified Leslie-Gower predator-prey system with two delays and diffusion is considered. By calculating stability switching curves, the stability of positive equilibrium and the existence of Hopf bifurcation and double Hopf bifurcation are investigated on the parametric plane of two delays. Taking two time delays as bifurcation parameters, the normal form on the center manifold near the double Hopf bifurcation point is derived, and the unfoldings near the critical points are given. Finally, we obtain the complex dynamics near the double Hopf bifurcation point, including the existence of quasi-periodic solutions on a 2-torus, quasi-periodic solutions on a 3-torus, and strange attractors.

Double Hopf bifurcation in delayed reaction-diffusion systems

Double Hopf bifurcation analysis can be used to reveal some complicated dynamical behavior in a dynamical system, such as the existence or coexistence of periodic orbits, quasi-periodic orbits, or even chaos. In this paper, an algorithm for deriving the normal form near a codimension-two double Hopf bifurcation of a reaction-diffusion system with time delay and Neumann boundary condition is rigorously established, by employing the center manifold reduction technique and the normal form method. We find that the dynamical behavior near bifurcation points are proved to be governed by twelve distinct unfolding systems. Two examples are performed to illustrate our results: for a stage-structured epidemic model, we find that double Hopf bifurcation appears when varying the diffusion rate and time delay, and two stable spatially inhomogeneous periodic oscillations are proved to coexist near the bifurcation point; in a diffusive predator-prey system, we theoretically proved that quasi-periodic orbits exist on two- or three-torus near a double Hopf bifurcation point, which will break down after slight perturbation, leaving the system a strange attractor.

Diffusion-induced spatio-temporal oscillations in an epidemic model with two delays

We investigate a diffusive, stage-structured epidemic model with the maturation delay and freely-moving delay. Choosing delays and diffusive rates as bifurcation parameters, the only possible way to destabilize the endemic equilibrium is through Hopf bifurcation. The normal forms of Hopf bifurcations on the center manifold are calculated, and explicit formulae determining the criticality of bifurcations are derived. There are two different kinds of stable oscillations near the first bifurcation: on one hand, we theoretically prove that when the diffusion rate of infected immature individuals is sufficiently small or sufficiently large, the first branch of Hopf bifurcating solutions is always spatially homogeneous; on the other, fixing this diffusion rate at an appropriate size, stable oscillations with different spatial profiles are observed, and the conditions to guarantee the existence of such solutions are given. These phenomena are investigated by calculating the corresponding eigenfunction of the Laplacian at the first Hopf bifurcation point.
