On plastikstufe, bordered Legendrian open book and overtwisted contact structures

In this paper we prove the presence of an embedded plastikstufe implies overtwistedness of the contact structure in any dimension. Moreover, we show in dimension 5 that the presence of an embedded bordered Legendrian open book (bLob) also implies overtwistedness. Applications of these criteria to certain (contact) fibered connected sums and open books are discussed.

Strong gravitational lensing for the photons coupled to Weyl tensor in a Kerr black hole spacetime

We present firstly equation of motion for the photon coupled to Weyl tensor in a Kerr black hole spacetime and then study further the corresponding strong gravitational lensing. We find that black hole rotation makes propagation of the coupled photons more complicated, which brings some new features for physical quantities including the marginally circular photon orbit, the deflection angle, the observational gravitational lensing variables and the time delay between two relativistic images. There is a critical value of the coupling parameter for existence of the marginally circular photon orbit outside the event horizon, which depends on the rotation parameter of black hole and the polarization direction of photons. As the value of coupling parameter is near the critical value, we find that the marginally circular photon orbit for the retrograde photon increases with the rotation parameter, which modifies a common feature of the marginally circular photon orbit in a rotating black hole spacetime since it always decreases monotonously with the rotation parameter in the case without Weyl coupling. Combining with the supermassive central object in our Galaxy, we estimated the observables including time delays between the relativistic images in the strong gravitational lensing as the photons couple to Weyl tensor.

Quasars in the Galactic Anti-Center Area from the LAMOST DR3

We present a sample of quasars discovered in the area of Galactic Anti-Center (GAC) of $150^{\circ} \leq l \leq 210^{\circ}$ and $|b| \leq 30^{\circ}$, based on the LAMOST Data Release 3 (DR3). The sample contains 151 spectroscopically confirmed quasars. Among them 80 are newly discovered with the LAMOST. All those quasars are very bright, with $i$ magnitudes peaking around 17.5\, mag. All the newly quasars are discovered serendipitously, targeted originally with the LAMOST as stars of bluer colours, except for a few targeted as variable, young stellar object candidates. This bright quasar sample at low Galactic latitudes will help fill the gap in the spatial distribution of known quasars near the Galactic disk that are used to construct astrometric reference frame for the purpose of accurate proper motion measurements, for example, Gaia. They are also excellent tracers to probe the kinematics and chemistry of the interstellar medium of the Milky Way disk and halo via absorption line spectroscopy.

LAMOST Spectroscopic Survey of the Galactic Anticentre (LSS-GAC): the second release of value-added catalogues

We present the second release of value-added catalogues of the LAMOST Spectroscopic Survey of the Galactic Anticentre (LSS-GAC DR2). The catalogues present values of radial velocity $V_{\rm r}$, atmospheric parameters --- effective temperature $T_{\rm eff}$, surface gravity log$g$, metallicity [Fe/H], $α$-element to iron (metal) abundance ratio [$α$/Fe] ([$α$/M]), elemental abundances [C/H] and [N/H], and absolute magnitudes ${\rm M}_V$ and ${\rm M}_{K_{\rm s}}$ deduced from 1.8 million spectra of 1.4 million unique stars targeted by the LSS-GAC since September 2011 until June 2014. The catalogues also give values of interstellar reddening, distance and orbital parameters determined with a variety of techniques, as well as proper motions and multi-band photometry from the far-UV to the mid-IR collected from the literature and various surveys. Accuracies of radial velocities reach 5kms$^{-1}$ for late-type stars, and those of distance estimates range between 10 -- 30 per cent, depending on the spectral signal-to-noise ratios. Precisions of [Fe/H], [C/H] and [N/H] estimates reach 0.1dex, and those of [$α$/Fe] and [$α$/M] reach 0.05dex. The large number of stars, the contiguous sky coverage, the simple yet non-trivial target selection function and the robust estimates of stellar radial velocities and atmospheric parameters, distances and elemental abundances, make the catalogues a valuable data set to study the structure and evolution of the Galaxy, especially the solar-neighbourhood and the outer disk.

Double shadow of a regular phantom black hole as photons couple to Weyl tensor

We have studied the shadow of a regular phantom black hole as photons couple to Weyl tensor. We find that the coupling yields that photons with different polarization directions propagate along different paths in the spacetime so that there exits double shadow for a black hole, which is quite different from that in the non-coupling case where only a single shadow emerges. The umbra of black hole increases with the phantom charge and decreases with the coupling strength. The dependence of the penumbra on the phantom charge and the coupling strength is converse to that of the umbra. Combining with the supermassive central object in our Galaxy, we estimated the shadow of the black hole as the photons couple to Weyl tensor. Our results show that the coupling brings richer behaviors of the propagation of coupled photon and the shadow of the black hole in the regular phantom black hole spacetime.

Estimating stellar atmospheric parameters, absolute magnitudes and elemental abundances from the LAMOST spectra with Kernel-based Principal Component Analysis

Accurate determination of stellar atmospheric parameters and elemental abundances is crucial for Galactic archeology via large-scale spectroscopic surveys. In this paper, we estimate stellar atmospheric parameters -- effective temperature T_{\rm eff}, surface gravity log g and metallicity [Fe/H], absolute magnitudes M_V and M_{Ks}, α-element to metal (and iron) abundance ratio [α/M] (and [α/Fe]), as well as carbon and nitrogen abundances [C/H] and [N/H] from the LAMOST spectra with amultivariate regressionmethod based on kernel-based principal component analysis, using stars in common with other surveys (Hipparcos, Kepler, APOGEE) as training data sets. Both internal and external examinations indicate that given a spectral signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) better than 50, our method is capable of delivering stellar parameters with a precision of ~100K for Teff, ~0.1 dex for log g, 0.3 -- 0.4mag for M_V and M_{Ks}, 0.1 dex for [Fe/H], [C/H] and [N/H], and better than 0.05 dex for [α/M] ([α/Fe]). The results are satisfactory even for a spectral SNR of 20. The work presents first determinations of [C/H] and [N/H] abundances from a vast data set of LAMOST, and, to our knowledge, the first reported implementation of absolute magnitude estimation directly based on the observed spectra. The derived stellar parameters for millions of stars from the LAMOST surveys will be publicly available in the form of value-added catalogues.

Constraining the Galactic structure parameters with the XSTPS-GAC and SDSS photometric surveys

Photometric data from the Xuyi Schmidt Telescope Photometric Survey of the Galactic Anticentre (XSTPS-GAC) and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) are used to derive the global structure parameters of the smooth components of the Milky Way. The data, which cover nearly 11,000 deg$^2$ sky area and the full range of Galactic latitude, allow us to construct a globally representative Galactic model. The number density distribution of Galactic halo stars is fitted with an oblate spheroid that decays by power law. The best-fit yields an axis ratio and a power law index $κ=0.65$ and $p=2.79$, respectively. The $r$-band differential star counts of three dwarf samples are then fitted with a Galactic model. The best-fit model yielded by a Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis has thin and thick disk scale heights and lengths of $H_{1}=$ 322\,pc and $L_{1}=$2343\,pc, $H_{2}=$794\,pc and $L_{2}=$3638\,pc, a local thick-to-thin disk density ratio of $f_2=$11\,per\,cent, and a local density ratio of the oblate halo to the thin disk of $f_h=$0.16\,per\,cent. The measured star count distribution, which is in good agreement with the above model for most of the sky area, shows a number of statistically significant large scale overdensities, including some of the previously known substructures, such as the Virgo overdensity and the so-called "north near structure", and a new feature between 150\degr $< l < $ 240\degr~and $-1$5\degr $< b < $ $-$5\degr, at an estimated distance between 1.0 and 1.5\,kpc. The Galactic North-South asymmetry in the anticentre is even stronger than previously thought.

The Milky Way's rotation curve out to 100 kpc and its constraint on the Galactic mass distribution

The rotation curve (RC) of the Milky Way out to $\sim$ 100 kpc has been constructed using $\sim$ 16,000 primary red clump giants (PRCGs) in the outer disk selected from the LSS-GAC and the SDSS-III/APOGEE survey, combined with $\sim$ 5700 halo K giants (HKGs) selected from the SDSS/SEGUE survey. To derive the RC, the PRCG sample of the warm disc population and the HKG sample of halo stellar population are respectively analyzed using a kinematical model allowing for the asymmetric drift corrections and re-analyzed using the spherical Jeans equation along with measurements of the anisotropic parameter $β$ currently available. The typical uncertainties of RC derived from the PRCG and HKG samples are respectively 5-7 km/s and several tens km/s. We determine a circular velocity at the solar position, $V_c (R_0)$ = 240 $\pm$ 6 km/s and an azimuthal peculiar speed of the Sun, $V_{\odot}$ = 12.1 $\pm$ 7.6 km/s, both in good agreement with the previous determinations. The newly constructed RC has a generally flat value of 240 km/s within a Galactocentric distance $r$ of 25 kpc and then decreases steadily to 150 km/s at $r$ $\sim$ 100 kpc. On top of this overall trend, the RC exhibits two prominent localized dips, one at $r$ $\sim$ 11 kpc and another at $r$ $\sim$ 19 kpc. From the newly constructed RC, combined with other constraints, we have built a parametrized mass model for the Galaxy, yielding a virial mass of the Milky Way's dark matter halo of $0.90^{+0.07}_{-0.08} \times 10^{12}$ ${\rm M}_{\odot}$ and a local dark matter density, $ρ_{\rm \odot, dm} = 0.32^{+0.02}_{-0.02}$ GeV cm$^{-3}$.

Scalar clouds and the superradiant instability regime of Kerr-Newman black hole

In this paper, we study a physical system that is composed of massive charged scalar field linearly coupled to a charged rotating Kerr-Newman black hole. Given the parameters of black hole and a specific set of "quantum" numbers, the parameter space of the scalar field, which is a plane spanned by its mass and charge, is divided into five partitions by three simple constraint lines and the existence line of scalar clouds. The physical properties of the system in these partitions are presented. It is found that superradiant instability may be possibly caused only in two of the partitions. In particular, it is shown that both the mass and charge of the scalar clouds are bounded in a limited region. Our results may be used to rapidly judge the possible occurrence of superradiant instability and the existence of scalar clouds around a given black hole.

The Xinglong 2.16-m Telescope: Current Instruments and Scientific Projects

The Xinglong 2.16-m reflector is the first 2-meter class astronomical telescope in China. It was jointly designed and built by the Nanjing Astronomical Instruments Factory (NAIF), Beijing Astronomical Observatory (now National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences, NAOC) and Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1989. It is Ritchey-Chrétien (R-C) reflector on an English equatorial mount and the effective aperture is 2.16 meters. It had been the largest optical telescope in China for $\sim18$ years until the Guoshoujing Telescope (also called Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope, LAMOST) and the Lijiang 2.4-m telescope were built. At present, there are three main instruments on the Cassegrain focus available: the Beijing Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera (BFOSC) for direct imaging and low resolution ($R\sim500-2000$) spectroscopy, the spectrograph made by Optomechanics Research Inc. (OMR) for low resolution spectroscopy (the spectral resolutions are similar to those of BFOSC) and the fiber-fed High Resolution Spectrograph (HRS, $R\sim30000-65000$). The telescope is widely open to astronomers all over China as well as international astronomical observers. Each year there are more than 40 ongoing observing projects, including 6-8 key projects. Recently, some new techniques and instruments (e.g., astro-frequency comb calibration system, polarimeter and adaptive optics) have been or will be tested on the telescope to extend its observing abilities.

Relaying Strategies for Wireless-Powered MIMO Relay Networks

This paper investigates relaying schemes in an amplify-and-forward multiple-input multiple-output relay network, where an energy-constrained relay harvests wireless power from the source information flow and can be further aided by an energy flow (EF) in the form of a wireless power transfer at the destination. However, the joint optimization of the relay matrix and the source precoder for the energy-flow-assisted (EFA) and the non-EFA (NEFA) schemes is intractable. The original rate maximization problem is transformed into an equivalent weighted mean square error minimization problem and optimized iteratively, where the global optimum of the nonconvex source precoder subproblem is achieved by semidefinite relaxation and rank reduction. The iterative algorithm finally converges. Then, the simplified EFA and NEFA schemes are proposed based on channel diagonalization, such that the matrices optimizations can be simplified to power optimizations. Closed-form solutions can be achieved. Simulation results reveal that the EFA schemes can outperform the NEFA schemes. Additionally, deploying more antennas at the relay increases the dimension of the signal space at the relay. Exploiting the additional dimension, the EF leakage in the information detecting block can be nearly separated from the information signal, such that the EF leakage can be amplified with a small coefficient.

Waveform Optimization for Large-Scale Multi-Antenna Multi-Sine Wireless Power Transfer

Wireless power transfer (WPT) is expected to be a technology reshaping the landscape of low-power applications such as the Internet of Things, machine-to-machine communications and radio frequency identification networks. Although there has been some progress towards multi-antenna multi-sine WPT design, the large-scale design of WPT, reminiscent of massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) in communications, remains an open problem. Considering the nonlinear rectifier model, a multiuser waveform optimization algorithm is derived based on successive convex approximation (SCA). A lower-complexity algorithm is derived based on asymptotic analysis and sequential approximation (SA). It is shown that the difference between the average output voltage achieved by the two algorithms can be negligible provided the number of antennas is large enough. The performance gain of the nonlinear model based design over the linear model based design can be large, in the presence of a large number of tones.

Charged scalar perturbations around a regular magnetic black hole

We study charged scalar perturbations in the background of a regular magnetic black hole. In this case, the charged scalar perturbation does not result in superradiance. By using careful time-domain analysis, we show that the charge of scalar field can change the real part of quasinormal frequency, but has little impact on the imaginary part of quasinormal frequency and the behavior of the late-time tail. Therefore, the regular magnetic black hole may be stable under the perturbations of charged scalar field at the linear level.

On the LSP3 estimates of surface gravity for LAMOST-Kepler stars with asteroseismic measurements

Asteroseismology allows for deriving precise values of surface gravity of stars. The accurate asteroseismic determinations now available for large number of stars in the Kepler fields can be used to check and calibrate surface gravities that are currently being obtained spectroscopically for a huge numbers of stars targeted by large-scale spectroscopic surveys, such as the on-going Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) Galactic survey. The LAMOST spectral surveys have obtained a large number of stellar spectra in the Kepler fields. Stellar atmospheric parameters of those stars have been determined with the LAMOST Stellar Parameter Pipeline at Peking University (LSP3), by template matching with the MILES empirical spectral library. In the current work, we compare surface gravities yielded by LSP3 with those of two asteroseismic samples - the largest sample from Huber et al. (2014) and the most accurate sample from Hekker et al. (2012, 2013). We find that LSP3 surface gravities are in good agreement with asteroseismic values of Hekker et al. (2012, 2013), with a dispersion of about 0.2 dex. Except for a few cases, asteroseismic surface gravities of Huber et al. (2014) and LSP3 spectroscopic values agree for a wide range of surface gravities. However, some patterns of differences can be identified upon close inspection. Potential ways to further improve the LSP3 spectroscopic estimation of stellar atmospheric parameters in the near future are briefly discussed. The effects of effective temperature and metallicity on asteroseismic determinations of surface gravities for giant stars are also discussed.

Validation of LAMOST Stellar Parameters with the PASTEL Catalog

Recently the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) published its first data release (DR1), which is ranked as the largest stellar spectra dataset in the world so far. We combine the PASTEL catalog and SIMBAD radial velocities as a testing standard to validate the DR1 stellar parameters (effective temperature $T_{\mathrm{eff}}$, surface gravity $\log g$, metallicity $\mathrm{[Fe/H]}$ and radial velocity $V_{\mathrm{r}}$). Through cross-identification of the DR1 catalogs and the PASTEL catalog, we obtain a preliminary sample of 422 stars. After removal of stellar parameter measurements from problematic spectra and applying effective temperature constraints to the sample, we compare the stellar parameters from DR1 with those from PASTEL and SIMBAD to prove that the DR1 results are reliable in restricted $T_{\mathrm{eff}}$ ranges. We derive standard deviations of 110 K, 0.19 dex, 0.11 dex and 4.91 $\mathrm{km\,s^{-1}}$ , for $T_{\mathrm{eff}}$, $\log g$, $[\mathrm{Fe/H}]$ when $T_{\mathrm{eff}}<8000\,\mathrm{K}$, and for $V_{\mathrm{r}}$ when $T_{\mathrm{eff}}<10000\,\mathrm{K}$, respectively. Systematic errors are negligible except for that of $V_{\mathrm{r}}$. Besides, metallicities in DR1 are systematically higher than those in PASTEL, in the range of PASTEL $[\mathrm{Fe/H}]<-1.5$.

Kinematic properties of the dual AGN system J0038+4128 based on long-slit spectroscopy

The study of kiloparsec-scale dual active galactic nuclei (AGN) will provide important clues to understand the co-evolution between the host galaxies and their central supermassive black holes undergoing a merging process. We present long-slit spectroscopy of the J0038$+$4128, a kiloparsec-scale dual AGN candidate discovered by Huang et al. recently, using the Yunnan Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera (YFOSC) mounted on Li-Jiang 2.4-m telescope at Yunnan observatories. From the long-slit spectra, we find that the average relative line-of-sight (LOS) velocity between the two nuclei (J0038$+$4128N and J0038$+$4128S) is about 150 km s$^{-1}$. The LOS velocities of the emission lines from the gas ionized by the nuclei activities and of the absorption lines from stars governed by the host galaxies for different regions of the J0038$+$4128 exhibit the same trend. The same velocities trend indicates that the gaseous disks are co-rotating with the stellar disks in this ongoing merge system. We also find several knots/giant HII regions scattered around the two nuclei with strong star formation revealed by the observed line ratios from the spectra. Those regions are also detected clearly in HST $F336W/U$-band and HST $F555W/V$-band images.

Empirical metallicity-dependent calibrations of effective temperature against colours for dwarfs and giants based on interferometric data

We present empirical metallicity-dependent calibrations of effective temperature against colours for dwarfs of luminosity classes IV and V and for giants of luminosity classes II and III, based on a collection from the literature of about two hundred nearby stars with direct effective temperature measurements of better than 2.5 per cent. The calibrations are valid for an effective temperature range 3,100 - 10,000 K for dwarfs of spectral types M5 to A0 and 3,100 - 5,700 K for giants of spectral types K5 to G5. A total of twenty-one colours for dwarfs and eighteen colours for giants of bands of four photometric systems, i.e. the Johnson ($UBVR_{\rm J}I_{\rm J}JHK$), the Cousins ($R_{\rm C}I_{\rm C}$), the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS, $gr$) and the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS, $JHK_{\rm s}$), have been calibrated. Restricted by the metallicity range of the current sample, the calibrations are mainly applicable for disk stars ([Fe/H]$\,\gtrsim\,-1.0$). The normalized percentage residuals of the calibrations are typically 2.0 and 1.5 per cent for dwarfs and giants, respectively. Some systematic discrepancies at various levels are found between the current scales and those available in the literature (e.g. those based on the infrared flux method IRFM or spectroscopy). Based on the current calibrations, we have re-determined the colours of the Sun. We have also investigated the systematic errors in effective temperatures yielded by the current on-going large scale low- to intermediate-resolution stellar spectroscopic surveys. We show that the calibration of colour ($g-K_{\rm s}$) presented in the current work provides an invaluable tool for the estimation of stellar effective temperature for those on-going or upcoming surveys.

Galactic Disk Bulk Motions as Revealed by the LSS-GAC DR2

We report a detailed investigation of the bulk motions of the nearby Galactic stellar disk, based on three samples selected from the LSS-GAC DR2: a global sample containing 0.57 million FGK dwarfs out to $\sim$ 2 kpc, a local subset of the global sample consisting $\sim$ 5,400 stars within 150 pc, and an anti-center sample containing $\sim$ 4,400 AFGK dwarfs and red clump stars within windows of a few degree wide centered on the Galactic anti-center. The global sample is used to construct a three-dimensional map of bulk motions of the Galactic disk from the solar vicinity out to $\sim$ 2 kpc with a spatial resolution of $\sim$ 250 pc. Typical values of the radial and vertical components of bulk motion range from $-$15 km s$^{-1}$ to 15 km s$^{-1}$, while the lag behind the circular speed dominates the azimuthal component by up to $\sim$ 15 km s$^{-1}$. The map reveals spatially coherent, kpc-scale stellar flows in the disk, with typical velocities of a few tens km s$^{-1}$. Bending- and breathing-mode perturbations are clearly visible, and vary smoothly across the disk plane. Our data also reveal higher-order perturbations, such as breaks and ripples, in the profiles of vertical motion versus height. From the local sample, we find that stars of different populations exhibit very different patterns of bulk motion. Finally, the anti-center sample reveals a number of peaks in stellar number density in the line-of-sight velocity versus distance distribution, with the nearer ones apparently related to the known moving groups. The "velocity bifurcation" reported by Liu et al. (2012) at Galactocentric radii 10--11 kpc is confirmed. However, just beyond this distance, our data also reveal a new triple-peaked structure.
