ManhattanSLAM: Robust Planar Tracking and Mapping Leveraging Mixture of Manhattan Frames

In this paper, a robust RGB-D SLAM system is proposed to utilize the structural information in indoor scenes, allowing for accurate tracking and efficient dense mapping on a CPU. Prior works have used the Manhattan World (MW) assumption to estimate low-drift camera pose, in turn limiting the applications of such systems. This paper, in contrast, proposes a novel approach delivering robust tracking in MW and non-MW environments. We check orthogonal relations between planes to directly detect Manhattan Frames, modeling the scene as a Mixture of Manhattan Frames. For MW scenes, we decouple pose estimation and provide a novel drift-free rotation estimation based on Manhattan Frame observations. For translation estimation in MW scenes and full camera pose estimation in non-MW scenes, we make use of point, line and plane features for robust tracking in challenging scenes. %mapping Additionally, by exploiting plane features detected in each frame, we also propose an efficient surfel-based dense mapping strategy, which divides each image into planar and non-planar regions. Planar surfels are initialized directly from sparse planes in our map while non-planar surfels are built by extracting superpixels. We evaluate our method on public benchmarks for pose estimation, drift and reconstruction accuracy, achieving superior performance compared to other state-of-the-art methods. We will open-source our code in the future.

RGB-D SLAM with Structural Regularities

This work proposes a RGB-D SLAM system specifically designed for structured environments and aimed at improved tracking and mapping accuracy by relying on geometric features that are extracted from the surrounding. Structured environments offer, in addition to points, also an abundance of geometrical features such as lines and planes, which we exploit to design both the tracking and mapping components of our SLAM system. For the tracking part, we explore geometric relationships between these features based on the assumption of a Manhattan World (MW). We propose a decoupling-refinement method based on points, lines, and planes, as well as the use of Manhattan relationships in an additional pose refinement module. For the mapping part, different levels of maps from sparse to dense are reconstructed at a low computational cost. We propose an instance-wise meshing strategy to build a dense map by meshing plane instances independently. The overall performance in terms of pose estimation and reconstruction is evaluated on public benchmarks and shows improved performance compared to state-of-the-art methods. The code is released at \url{https://github.com/yanyan-li/PlanarSLAM}

A Survey on Amazon Alexa Attack Surfaces

Since being launched in 2014, Alexa, Amazon's versatile cloud-based voice service, is now active in over 100 million households worldwide. Alexa's user-friendly, personalized vocal experience offers customers a more natural way of interacting with cutting-edge technology by allowing the ability to directly dictate commands to the assistant. Now in the present year, the Alexa service is more accessible than ever, available on hundreds of millions of devices from not only Amazon but third-party device manufacturers. Unfortunately, that success has also been the source of concern and controversy. The success of Alexa is based on its effortless usability, but in turn, that has led to a lack of sufficient security. This paper surveys various attacks against Amazon Alexa ecosystem including attacks against the frontend voice capturing and the cloud backend voice command recognition and processing. Overall, we have identified six attack surfaces covering the lifecycle of Alexa voice interaction that spans several stages including voice data collection, transmission, processing and storage. We also discuss the potential mitigation solutions for each attack surface to better improve Alexa or other voice assistants in terms of security and privacy.

Asymptotic stability of Landau solutions to Navier-Stokes system under $L^p$-perturbations

In this paper, we show that Landau solutions to the Navier-Stokes system are asymptotically stable under $L^3$-perturbations. We give the local well-posedness of solutions to the perturbed system with initial data in $L_σ^3$ space and the global well-posedness with small initial data in $L_σ^3$ space, together with a study of the $L^q$ decay for all $q>3.$ Moreover, we have also studied the local well-posedness, global well-posedness and stability in $L^p$ spaces for $3<p<\infty$.

Co-Planar Parametrization for Stereo-SLAM and Visual-Inertial Odometry

This work proposes a novel SLAM framework for stereo and visual inertial odometry estimation. It builds an efficient and robust parametrization of co-planar points and lines which leverages specific geometric constraints to improve camera pose optimization in terms of both efficiency and accuracy. %reduce the size of the Hessian matrix in the optimization. The pipeline consists of extracting 2D points and lines, predicting planar regions and filtering the outliers via RANSAC. Our parametrization scheme then represents co-planar points and lines as their 2D image coordinates and parameters of planes. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method by comparing it to traditional parametrizations in a novel Monte-Carlo simulation set. Further, the whole stereo SLAM and VIO system is compared with state-of-the-art methods on the public real-world dataset EuRoC. Our method shows better results in terms of accuracy and efficiency than the state-of-the-art. The code is released at https://github.com/LiXin97/Co-Planar-Parametrization.

Structure-SLAM: Low-Drift Monocular SLAM in Indoor Environments

In this paper a low-drift monocular SLAM method is proposed targeting indoor scenarios, where monocular SLAM often fails due to the lack of textured surfaces. Our approach decouples rotation and translation estimation of the tracking process to reduce the long-term drift in indoor environments. In order to take full advantage of the available geometric information in the scene, surface normals are predicted by a convolutional neural network from each input RGB image in real-time. First, a drift-free rotation is estimated based on lines and surface normals using spherical mean-shift clustering, leveraging the weak Manhattan World assumption. Then translation is computed from point and line features. Finally, the estimated poses are refined with a map-to-frame optimization strategy. The proposed method outperforms the state of the art on common SLAM benchmarks such as ICL-NUIM and TUM RGB-D.

Solutions to the $σ_k$-Loewner-Nirenberg problem on annuli are locally Lipschitz and not differentiable

We show for $k \geq 2$ that the locally Lipschitz viscosity solution to the $σ_k$-Loewner-Nirenberg problem on a given annulus $\{a < |x| < b\}$ is $C^{1,\frac{1}{k}}_{\rm loc}$ in each of $\{a < |x| \leq \sqrt{ab}\}$ and $\{\sqrt{ab} \leq |x| < b\}$ and has a jump in radial derivative across $|x| = \sqrt{ab}$. Furthermore, the solution is not $C^{1,γ}_{\rm loc}$ for any $γ> \frac{1}{k}$. Optimal regularity for solutions to the $σ_k$-Yamabe problem on annuli with finite constant boundary values is also established.

2.6mJ/100Hz CEP stable near-single-cycle 4μm laser based on OPCPA and hollow-core-fiber compression

A carrier envelope phase stable near-single cycle mid-infrared laser based on optical parametric chirped pulse amplification and hollow-core-fiber compression is demonstrated. 4 μm laser pulses with 11.8 mJ energy are delivered from a KTA based OPCPA with 100 Hz repetition rate, and compressed to be ~105 fs by a two-grating compressor with efficiency over 50%. Subsequently, the pulse spectrum is broadened by employing a krypton gas-filled hollow-core-fiber (HCF). Then, the pulse duration is further compressed to 21.5 fs through a CaF2 bulk material with energy of 2.6 mJ and stability of 0.9% RMS, which is about 1.6 cycle for 4 μm laser pulse. The near-single cycle 4 μm laser pulse CEP is passively stabilized with ~370 mrad based on a CEP stable 4 μm OPA injection.

Global existence to a $3D$ chemotaxis-Navier-stokes system with nonlinear diffusion and rotation

This paper is concerned with the following quasilinear chemotaxis--Navier--Stokes system with nonlinear diffusion and rotation $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{l} n_t+u\cdot\nabla n=Δn^m-\nabla\cdot(nS(x,n,c)\cdot\nabla c),\quad x\in Ω, t>0, c_t+u\cdot\nabla c=Δc-nc,\quad x\in Ω, t>0,\\ u_t+κ(u \cdot \nabla)u+\nabla P=Δu+n\nabla ϕ,\quad x\in Ω, t>0,\\ \nabla\cdot u=0,\quad x\in Ω, t>0 \end{array}\right.\eqno(CNF) $$ is considered under the no-flux boundary conditions for $n, c$ and the Dirichlet boundary condition for $u$ in a three-dimensional convex domain $Ω\subseteq \mathbb{R}^3$ with smooth boundary, which describes the motion of oxygen-driven bacteria in a fluid. Here % $Ω\subseteq \mathbb{R}^3$ is a , $κ\in \mathbb{R}$ and $S$ denotes the strength of nonlinear fluid convection and a given tensor-valued function, respectively. Assume $m>\frac{10}{9}$ and $S$ fulfills $|S(x,n,c)| \leq S_0(c)$ for all $(x,n,c)\in \barΩ \times [0, \infty)\times[0, \infty)$ with $S_0(c)$ nondecreasing on $[0,\infty)$, then for any reasonably regular initial data, the corresponding initial-boundary problem $(CNF)$ admits at least one global weak solution.

Symmetry, quantitative Liouville theorems and analysis of large solutions of conformally invariant fully nonlinear elliptic equations

We establish blow-up profiles for any blowing-up sequence of solutions of general conformally invariant fully nonlinear elliptic equations on Euclidean domains. We prove that (i) the distance between blow-up points is bounded from below by a universal positive number, (ii) the solutions are very close to a single standard bubble in a universal positive distance around each blow-up point, and (iii) the heights of these bubbles are comparable by a universal factor. As an application of this result, we establish a quantitative Liouville theorem.

Study of digital pulse shape discrimination method for n-γ separation of EJ-301 liquid scintillation detector

A digital pulse shape discrimination system based on a programmable module NI-5772 has been established and tested with EJ-301 liquid scintillation detector. The module was operated by means of running programs developed in LabVIEW with the sampling frequency up to 1.6GS/s. Standard gamma sources 22Na, 137Cs and 60Co were used to calibrate the EJ-301 liquid scintillation detector, and the gamma response function has been obtained. Digital algorithms for charge comparison method and zero-crossing method have been developed. The experimental results showed that both digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms could discriminate neutrons from gamma-rays. Moreover, the zero-crossing method shows better n-γ discrimination at 80 keVee and lower, whereas the charge comparison method gives better results at higher thresholds. In addition, the figure-of-merit (FOM) of two different dimension detectors were extracted at 9 energy thresholds, and it was found that the smaller one presented a better n-γ separation property for fission neutrons.

The study of neutron spectra in water bath from Pb target irradiated by 250MeV/u protons

The spallation neutrons were produced by the irradiation of Pb with 250 MeV protons. The Pb target was surrounded by water which was used to slow down the emitted neutrons. The moderated neutrons in the water bath were measured by using the resonance detectors of Au, Mn and In with Cd cover. According to the measured activities of the foils, the neutron flux at different resonance energy were deduced and the epithermal neutron spectra were proposed. Corresponding results calculated with the Monte Carlo code MCNPX were compared with the experimental data to check the validity of the code.

Gradient Estimates for Parabolic Systems from Composite Material

In this paper we derive $W^{1,\infty}$ and piecewise $C^{1,α}$ estimates for solutions, and their $t-$derivatives, of divergence form parabolic systems with coefficients piecewise Hölder continuous in space variables $x$ and smooth in $t$. This is an extension to parabolic systems of results of Li and Nirenberg on elliptic systems. These estimates depend on the shape and the size of the surfaces of discontinuity of the coefficients, but are independent of the distance between these surfaces.
