Intention Action Anticipation Model with Guide-Feedback Loop Mechanism

Anticipating human intention from videos has broad applications, such as automatic driving, robot assistive technology, and virtual reality. This study addresses the problem of intention action anticipation using egocentric video sequences to estimate actions that indicate human intention. We propose a Hierarchical Complete-Recent (HCR) information fusion model that makes full use of the features of the entire video sequence (i.e., complete features) and the features of the video tail sequence (i.e., recent features). The HCR model has two primary mechanisms. The Guide-Feedback Loop (GFL) mechanism is proposed to model the relation between one recent feature and one complete feature. Based on GFL, the MultiComplete-Recent Feature Aggregation (MCRFA) module is proposed to model the relation of one recent feature with multiscale complete features. Based on GFL and MCRFA, the HCR model can hierarchically explore the rich interrelationships between multiscale complete features and multiscale recent features. Through comparative and ablation experiments, we validate the effectiveness of our model on two well-known public datasets: EPIC-Kitchens and EGTEA Gaze+.

STAR-RIS Aided Integrated Sensing and Communication over High Mobility Scenario

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has become a promising technology for future communication system. In this paper, we consider a millimeter wave system over high mobility scenario, and propose a novel simultaneous transmission and reflection reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS) aided ISAC scheme. To improve the communication service of the in-vehicle user equipment (UE) and simultaneously track and sense the vehicle with the help of nearby roadside units (RSUs), a STAR-RIS is equipped on the outside surface of the vehicle. Firstly, an efficient transmission structure is developed, where a number of training sequences with orthogonal precoders and combiners are respectively utilized at BS and RSUs for channel parameter extraction. Then, the near-field static channel model between the STAR-RIS and in-vehicle UE as well as the far-field time-frequency selective BS-RIS-RSUs channel model are characterized. By utilizing the multidimensional orthogonal matching pursuit (MOMP) algorithm, the cascaded channel parameters of the BS-RIS-RSUs links can be obtained at the RSUs. Thus, the vehicle localization and its velocity measurement can be acquired by jointly utilizing these extracted cascaded channel parameters of all RSUs. Note that the MOMP algorithm can be further utilized to extract the channel parameters of the BS-RIS-UE link for communication. With the help of sensing results, the phase shifts of the STAR-RIS are delicately designed, which can significantly improve the received signal strength for both the RSUs and the in-vehicle UE, and can finally enhance the sensing and communication performance. Moreover, the trade-off for sensing and communication is designed by optimizing the energy splitting factors of the STAR-RIS. Finally, simulation results are provided to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of our proposed STAR-RIS aided ISAC scheme.

Message Feedback Interference Cancellation Aided UAMP Iterative Detector for OTFS Systems

The designing of efficient signal detectors is important and yet challenge for orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) systems in high-mobility scenarios. In this letter, we develop an efficient message feedback interference cancellation aided unitary approximate message passing (denoted as UAMPMFIC) iterative detector, where the latest feedback messages from variable nodes are utilized for more reliable interference cancellation and performance improvement. A fast recursive scheme is leveraged in the proposed UAMP-MFIC detector to prevent complexity increasing. To further alleviate the error-propagation and improve the receiver performance, we also develop the bidirectional symbol detection structures, where Turbo UAMP-MFIC detector and iterative weight UAMP-MFIC detector are proposed to efficiently fuse the estimation results of forward and backward UAMP-MFIC detectors. The simulation results are finally provided to demonstrate performance improvement of our proposed detectors over existing detectors.

Affine Frequency Division Multiplexing With Index Modulation

Affine frequency division multiplexing (AFDM) is a new multicarrier technique based on chirp signals tailored for high-mobility communications, which can achieve full diversity. In this paper, we propose an index modulation (IM) scheme based on the framework of AFDM systems, named AFDM-IM. In the proposed AFDM-IM scheme, the information bits are carried by the activation state of the subsymbols in discrete affine Fourier (DAF) domain in addition to the conventional constellation symbols. To efficiently perform IM, we divide the subsymbols in DAF domain into several groups and consider both the localized and distributed strategies. An asymptotically tight upper bound on the average bit error rate (BER) of the maximum-likelihood detection in the existence of channel estimation errors is derived in closed-form. Computer simulations are carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed AFDM-IM scheme, whose results corroborate its superiority over the benchmark schemes in the linear time-varying channels. We also evaluate the BER performance of the index and modulated bits for the AFDM-IM scheme with and without satisfying the full diversity condition of AFDM. The results show that the index bits have a stronger diversity protection than the modulated bits even when the full diversity condition of AFDM is not satisfied.

Jamming Suppression Via Resource Hopping in High-Mobility OTFS-SCMA Systems

This letter studies the mechanism of uplink multiple access and jamming suppression in an OTFS system. Specifically, we propose a novel resource hopping mechanism for orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) systems with delay or Doppler partitioned sparse code multiple access (SCMA) to mitigate the effect of jamming in controlled multiuser uplink. We analyze the non-uniform impact of classic jamming signals such as narrowband interference (NBI) and periodic impulse noise (PIN) in delay-Doppler (DD) domain on OTFS systems. Leveraging turbo equalization, our proposed hopping method demonstrates consistent BER performance improvement under jamming over conventional OTFS-SCMA systems compared to static resource allocation schemes.

Location Privacy and Spectrum Efficiency Enhancement in Spectrum Sharing Systems

In this work, we investigate the benefits of secondary user (SU) network beamforming on improving primary user (PU) location privacy in spectrum sharing systems, where the beamformer in the SU network is designed to suppress the aggregate interference to improve the location privacy of PUs. We consider two problems: improving SU network communication throughput subject to the specified PU location privacy requirements, and enhancing PU location privacy given the quality of service (QoS) requirements of SU networks. In the first problem, we provide an algorithm to achieve high data rates with the constrained PU location privacy level. Numerical results show that for a given PU location privacy requirement, the proposed scheme is able to interfere/exclude only a few SU nodes from the PU band and the network throughput can be greatly improved. In the second problem, to fully explore the potential of SU network beamforming for enhancing PU location privacy, we propose a two-step scheme to decouple the beamforming and privacy zone design so that the PU location privacy can be improved while satisfying the SU network throughput requirement. According to numerical evaluations, the proposed scheme can maintain/achieve higher PU location privacy than the benchmark beamforming schemes while satisfying a QoS requirement for the SU network.

Block-Wise Index Modulation and Receiver Design for High-Mobility OTFS Communications

As a promising technique for high-mobility wireless communications, orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) has been proved to enjoy excellent advantages with respect to traditional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Although multiple studies have considered index modulation (IM) based OTFS (IM-OTFS) schemes to further improve system performance, a challenging and open problem is the development of effective IM schemes and efficient receivers for practical OTFS systems that must operate in the presence of channel delays and Doppler shifts. In this paper, we propose two novel block-wise IM schemes for OTFS systems, named delay-IM with OTFS (DeIM-OTFS) and Doppler-IM with OTFS (DoIM-OTFS), where a block of delay/Doppler resource bins are activated simultaneously. Based on a maximum likelihood (ML) detector, we analyze upper bounds on the average bit error rates for the proposed DeIM-OTFS and DoIM-OTFS schemes, and verify their performance advantages over the existing IM-OTFS systems. We also develop a multi-layer joint symbol and activation pattern detection (MLJSAPD) algorithm and a customized message passing detection (CMPD) algorithm for our proposed DeIMOTFS and DoIM-OTFS systems with low complexity. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed MLJSAPD and CMPD algorithms can achieve desired performance with robustness to the imperfect channel state information (CSI).

Energy Efficiency of Rate-Splitting Multiple Access for Multibeam Satellite System

Energy efficiency (EE) problem has become an important and major issue in satellite communications. In this paper, we study the beamforming design strategy to maximize the EE of rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) for the multibeam satellite communications by considering imperfect channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT). We propose an expectation-based robust beamforming algorithm against the imperfect CSIT scenario. By combining the successive convex approximation (SCA) with the penalty function transformation, the nonconvex EE maximization problem can be solved in an iterative manner. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of RSMA over traditional space division multiple access (SDMA). Moreover, our proposed beamforming algorithm can achieve better EE performance than the conventional beamforming algorithm.

A large-scale multimodal dataset of human speech recognition

Nowadays, non-privacy small-scale motion detection has attracted an increasing amount of research in remote sensing in speech recognition. These new modalities are employed to enhance and restore speech information from speakers of multiple types of data. In this paper, we propose a dataset contains 7.5 GHz Channel Impulse Response (CIR) data from ultra-wideband (UWB) radars, 77-GHz frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) data from millimetre wave (mmWave) radar, and laser data. Meanwhile, a depth camera is adopted to record the landmarks of the subject's lip and voice. Approximately 400 minutes of annotated speech profiles are provided, which are collected from 20 participants speaking 5 vowels, 15 words and 16 sentences. The dataset has been validated and has potential for the research of lip reading and multimodal speech recognition.

Low-Complexity Memory AMP Detector for High-Mobility MIMO-OTFS SCMA Systems

Efficient signal detectors are rather important yet challenging to achieve satisfactory performance for large-scale communication systems. This paper considers a non-orthogonal sparse code multiple access (SCMA) configuration for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems with recently proposed orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation. We develop a novel low-complexity yet effective customized Memory approximate message passing (AMP) algorithm for channel equalization and multi-user detection. Specifically, the proposed Memory AMP detector enjoys the sparsity of the channel matrix and only applies matrix-vector multiplications in each iteration for low-complexity. To alleviate the performance degradation caused by positive reinforcement problem in the iterative process, all the preceding messages are utilized to guarantee the orthogonality principle in Memory AMP detector. Simulation results are finally provided to illustrate the superiority of our Memory AMP detector over the existing solutions.

Scalable Attribution of Adversarial Attacks via Multi-Task Learning

Deep neural networks (DNNs) can be easily fooled by adversarial attacks during inference phase when attackers add imperceptible perturbations to original examples, i.e., adversarial examples. Many works focus on adversarial detection and adversarial training to defend against adversarial attacks. However, few works explore the tool-chains behind adversarial examples, which can help defenders to seize the clues about the originator of the attack, their goals, and provide insight into the most effective defense algorithm against corresponding attacks. With such a gap, it is necessary to develop techniques that can recognize tool-chains that are leveraged to generate the adversarial examples, which is called Adversarial Attribution Problem (AAP). In this paper, AAP is defined as the recognition of three signatures, i.e., {\em attack algorithm}, {\em victim model} and {\em hyperparameter}. Current works transfer AAP into single label classification task and ignore the relationship between these signatures. The former will meet combination explosion problem as the number of signatures is increasing. The latter dictates that we cannot treat AAP simply as a single task problem. We first conduct some experiments to validate the attributability of adversarial examples. Furthermore, we propose a multi-task learning framework named Multi-Task Adversarial Attribution (MTAA) to recognize the three signatures simultaneously. MTAA contains perturbation extraction module, adversarial-only extraction module and classification and regression module. It takes the relationship between attack algorithm and corresponding hyperparameter into account and uses the uncertainty weighted loss to adjust the weights of three recognition tasks. The experimental results on MNIST and ImageNet show the feasibility and scalability of the proposed framework as well as its effectiveness in dealing with false alarms.

OTFS Signaling for SCMA With Coordinated Multi-Point Vehicle Communications

This paper investigates an uplink coordinated multi-point (CoMP) coverage scenario, in which multiple mobile users are grouped for sparse code multiple access (SCMA), and served by the remote radio head (RRH) in front of them and the RRH behind them simultaneously. We apply orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation for each user to exploit the degrees of freedom arising from both the delay and Doppler domains. As the signals received by the RRHs in front of and behind the users experience respectively positive and negative Doppler frequency shifts, our proposed OTFS-based SCMA (OBSCMA) with CoMP system can effectively harvest extra Doppler and spatial diversity for better performance. Based on maximum likelihood (ML) detector, we analyze the single-user average bit error rate (ABER) bound as the benchmark of the ABER performance for our proposed OBSCMA with CoMP system. We also develop a customized Gaussian approximation with expectation propagation (GAEP) algorithm for multi-user detection and propose efficient algorithm structures for centralized and decentralized detectors. Our proposed OBSCMA with CoMP system leads to stronger performance than the existing solutions. The proposed centralized and decentralized detectors exhibit effective reception and robustness under channel state information uncertainty.

As a promising technique for high-mobility wireless communications, orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) has been proved to enjoy excellent advantages with respect to traditional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). However, a challenging problem is to design efficient systems to further improve the performance. For practical implementation, we develop a low complexity customized message passing (CMP) algorithm for our proposed DoIM-OTFS scheme. Simulation results demonstrate our proposed DoIM-OTFS system outperforms traditional OTFS system without IM. The proposed CMP algorithm can achieve desired performance and robustness to the imperfect channel state information (CSI).

Joint Channel Estimation and Data Detection for Hybrid RIS aided Millimeter Wave OTFS Systems

For high mobility communication scenario, the recently emerged orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation introduces a new delay-Doppler domain signal space, and can provide better communication performance than traditional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system. This article focuses on the joint channel estimation and data detection (JCEDD) for hybrid reconfigurable intelligent surface (HRIS) aided millimeter wave (mmWave) OTFS systems. Firstly, a new transmission structure is designed. Within the pilot durations of the designed structure, partial HRIS elements are alternatively activated. The time domain channel model is then exhibited. Secondly, the received signal model for both the HRIS over time domain and the base station over delay-Doppler domain are studied. Thirdly, by utilizing channel parameters acquired at the HRIS, an HRIS beamforming design strategy is proposed. For the OTFS transmission, we propose a JCEDD scheme over delay-Doppler domain. In this scheme, message passing (MP) algorithm is designed to simultaneously obtain the equivalent channel gain and the data symbols. On the other hand, the channel parameters, i.e., the Doppler shift, the channel sparsity, and the channel variance, are updated through expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm. By iteratively executing the MP and EM algorithm, both the channel and the unknown data symbols can be accurately acquired. Finally, simulation results are provided to validate the effectiveness of our proposed JCEDD scheme.

Delay-Doppler Reversal for OTFS System in Doubly-selective Fading Channels

The recent proposed orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation shows signifcant advantages than conventional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) for high mobility wireless communications. However, a challenging problem is the development of effcient receivers for practical OTFS systems with low complexity. In this paper, we propose a novel delay-Doppler reversal (DDR) technology for OTFS system with desired performance and low complexity. We present the DDR technology from a perspective of two-dimensional cascaded channel model, analyze its computational complexity and also analyze its performance gain compared to the direct processing (DP) receiver without DDR. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed DDR receiver outperforms traditional receivers in doubly-selective fading channels.

Few-shot learning for medical text: A systematic review

Objective: Few-shot learning (FSL) methods require small numbers of labeled instances for training. As many medical topics have limited annotated textual data in practical settings, FSL-based natural language processing (NLP) methods hold substantial promise. We aimed to conduct a systematic review to explore the state of FSL methods for medical NLP. Materials and Methods: We searched for articles published between January 2016 and August 2021 using PubMed/Medline, Embase, ACL Anthology, and IEEE Xplore Digital Library. To identify the latest relevant methods, we also searched other sources such as preprint servers (eg., medRxiv) via Google Scholar. We included all articles that involved FSL and any type of medical text. We abstracted articles based on data source(s), aim(s), training set size(s), primary method(s)/approach(es), and evaluation method(s). Results: 31 studies met our inclusion criteria-all published after 2018; 22 (71%) since 2020. Concept extraction/named entity recognition was the most frequently addressed task (13/31; 42%), followed by text classification (10/31; 32%). Twenty-one (68%) studies reconstructed existing datasets to create few-shot scenarios synthetically, and MIMIC-III was the most frequently used dataset (7/31; 23%). Common methods included FSL with attention mechanisms (12/31; 39%), prototypical networks (8/31; 26%), and meta-learning (6/31; 19%). Discussion: Despite the potential for FSL in biomedical NLP, progress has been limited compared to domain-independent FSL. This may be due to the paucity of standardized, public datasets, and the relative underperformance of FSL methods on biomedical topics. Creation and release of specialized datasets for biomedical FSL may aid method development by enabling comparative analyses.

How Can Graph Neural Networks Help Document Retrieval: A Case Study on CORD19 with Concept Map Generation

Graph neural networks (GNNs), as a group of powerful tools for representation learning on irregular data, have manifested superiority in various downstream tasks. With unstructured texts represented as concept maps, GNNs can be exploited for tasks like document retrieval. Intrigued by how can GNNs help document retrieval, we conduct an empirical study on a large-scale multi-discipline dataset CORD-19. Results show that instead of the complex structure-oriented GNNs such as GINs and GATs, our proposed semantics-oriented graph functions achieve better and more stable performance based on the BM25 retrieved candidates. Our insights in this case study can serve as a guideline for future work to develop effective GNNs with appropriate semantics-oriented inductive biases for textual reasoning tasks like document retrieval and classification. Energy Efficiency for Proactive Eavesdropping in Cooperative Cognitive Radio Networks

This paper investigates a distant proactive eavesdropping system in cooperative cognitive radio (CR) networks. Specifically, an amplify-and-forward (AF) full-duplex (FD) secondary transmitter assists to relay the received signal from suspicious users to legitimate monitor for wireless information surveillance. In return, the secondary transmitter is granted to share the spectrum belonging to the suspicious users for its own information transmission. To improve the eavesdropping, the transmitted secondary user's signal can also be used as a jamming signal to moderate the data rate of the suspicious link. We consider two cases, i.e., non-negligible processing delay (NNPD) and negligible processing delay (NPD) at secondary transmitter. Our target is to maximize network energy efficiency (NEE) via jointly optimizing the AF relay matrix and precoding vector at the secondary transmitter, as well as the receiver combining vector at monitor, subject to the maximum power constraint at the secondary transmitter and minimum data rate requirement of the secondary user. We also guarantee that the achievable data rate of the eavesdropping link should be no less than that of the suspicious link for efficient surveillance. Due to the non-convexity of the formulated NEE maximization problem, we develop an efficient path-following algorithm and a robust alternating optimization (AO) method as solutions under perfect and imperfect channel state information (CSI) conditions, respectively. We also analyze the convergence and computational complexity of the proposed schemes. Numerical results are provided to validate the effectiveness of our proposed schemes.
