Distributed Sparse Regression via Penalization

We study sparse linear regression over a network of agents, modeled as an undirected graph (with no centralized node). The estimation problem is formulated as the minimization of the sum of the local LASSO loss functions plus a quadratic penalty of the consensus constraint -- the latter being instrumental to obtain distributed solution methods. While penalty-based consensus methods have been extensively studied in the optimization literature, their statistical and computational guarantees in the high dimensional setting remain unclear. This work provides an answer to this open problem. Our contribution is two-fold. First, we establish statistical consistency of the estimator: under a suitable choice of the penalty parameter, the optimal solution of the penalized problem achieves near optimal minimax rate $\mathcal{O}(s \log d/N)$ in $\ell_2$-loss, where $s$ is the sparsity value, $d$ is the ambient dimension, and $N$ is the total sample size in the network -- this matches centralized sample rates. Second, we show that the proximal-gradient algorithm applied to the penalized problem, which naturally leads to distributed implementations, converges linearly up to a tolerance of the order of the centralized statistical error -- the rate scales as $\mathcal{O}(d)$, revealing an unavoidable speed-accuracy dilemma.Numerical results demonstrate the tightness of the derived sample rate and convergence rate scalings.

Gluon Transverse-Momentum-Dependent Distributions from Large-Momentum Effective Theory

We demonstrate that gluon transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDPDFs) can be extracted from lattice calculations of appropriate Euclidean correlations in large-momentum effective theory (LaMET). Based on perturbative calculations of gluon unpolarized and helicity TMDPDFs, we present a matching formula connecting them and their LaMET counterparts, where the latter are renormalized in a scheme facilitating lattice calculations and converted to the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme. The hard matching kernel is given up to one-loop level. We also show that the perturbative result is independent of the prescription used for the pinch-pole singularity in the relevant correlations. Our results offer a guidance for the extraction of gluon TMDPDFs from lattice simulations, and have the potential to greatly facilitate perturbative calculations of the hard matching kernel.

Deeply-virtual Compton scattering at the next-to-next-to-leading order

Deeply-virtual Compton scattering gives access to the generalized parton distributions that encode the information on the transverse position of quarks and gluons in the proton in dependence in their longitudinal momentum. In anticipation of the high-precision experimental data in a broad kinematic range from the Electron-Ion Collider, we have calculated the two-loop, next-to-next-to-leading (NNLO) DVCS coefficient functions associated with the dominant Compton form factors $\mathcal H$ and $\mathcal E$ at large energies. The NNLO correction to the imaginary part of $\mathcal H$ appears to be rather large, up to factor two at the input scale $Q^2=4$ GeV$^2$ for simple GPD models, due to a cancellation between quark and gluon contributions.

Next-to-leading-power kinematic corrections to DVCS: a scalar target

Using the recent results on the contributions of descendants of the leading twist operators to the operator product expansion of two electromagnetic currents we derive explicit expressions for the kinematic finite-$t$ and target mass corrections to the DVCS helicity amplitudes to the $1/Q^4$ power accuracy. The cancellation of IR divergences for kinematic corrections is demonstrated to all powers in the leading order of perturbation theory. We also argue that target mass corrections in the coherent DVCS from nuclei are small and do not invalidate the factorization theorem.

$B\to D \ell ν_\ell$ form factors beyond leading power and extraction of $|V_{cb}|$ and $R(D)$

We investigate the subleading-power corrections to the exclusive $B\to D \ell ν_\ell$ form factors at ${\cal O} (α_s^0)$ in the light-cone sum rules (LCSR) framework by including the two- and three-particle higher-twist contributions from the $B$-meson light-cone distribution amplitudes up to the twist-six accuracy, by taking into account the subleading terms in expanding the hard-collinear charm-quark propagator, and by evaluating the hadronic matrix element of the subleading effective current $\bar q \, γ_μ \, i \not\!\!{D}_\perp / (2 \, m_b) \, h_v$. Employing further the available leading-power results for the semileptonic $B \to D$ form factors at the next-to-leading-logarithmic level and combining our improved LCSR predictions with the recent lattice determinations, we then carry out a comprehensive phenomenological analysis on the semi-leptonic $B\to D \ell ν_\ell$ decay. We extract $|V_{cb}| = \big( 40.2^{+0.6}_{-0.5} {\big |_{\rm th}}\,\, {}^{+1.4}_{-1.4} {\big |_{\rm exp}} \big)\times 10^{-3}$ ($|V_{cb}| = \big( 40.9^{+0.6}_{-0.5} {\big |_{\rm th}}\,\, {}^{+1.0}_{-1.0} {\big |_{\rm exp}} \big)\times 10^{-3}$) using the BaBar (Belle) experimental data, and particularly obtain for the gold-plated ratio $R(D) = 0.302\pm 0.003$.

Gluon Digitization via Character Expansion for Quantum Computers

Efficient digitization is required for quantum simulations of gauge theories. Schemes based on discrete subgroups use a smaller, fixed number of qubits at the cost of systematic errors. We systematize this approach by deriving the single plaquette action through matching the continuous group action to that of a discrete one via group character expansions modulo the field fluctuation contributions. We accompany this scheme by simulations of pure gauge over the largest discrete crystal-like subgroup of $SU(3)$ up to the fifth-order in the coupling constant.

Next-to-Next-to-Leading-Order QCD Prediction for the Photon-Pion Form Factor

We accomplish the complete two-loop computation of the leading-twist contribution to the photon-pion transition form factor $γ\, γ^{\ast} \to π^0$ by applying the hard-collinear factorization theorem together with modern multi-loop techniques. The resulting predictions for the form factor indicate that the two-loop perturbative correction is numerically important. We also demonstrate that our results will play a key role in disentangling various models of the twist-two pion distribution amplitude thanks to the envisaged precision at Belle II.

Renormalization and Mixing of Staple-Shaped Wilson Line Operators on the Lattice Revisited

Transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions and wave functions (TMDPDFs/TMDWFs) can be extracted from lattice calculations of appropriate Euclidean matrix elements of staple-shaped Wilson line operators. We investigate the mixing pattern of such operators under lattice renormalization using symmetry considerations. We perform an analysis for operators with all Dirac structures, which reveals mixings that are not present in one-loop lattice perturbation theory calculations. We also present the relevant one-loop matching in a renormalization scheme that does not introduce extra non-perturbative effects at large distances, both for the TMDPDFs and for the TMDWFs. Our results have the potential to greatly facilitate numerical calculations of TMDPDFs and TMDWFs on the lattice.

The pion-photon transition form factor at two loops in QCD

We report on the fully analytic calculation of the leading-power contribution to the photon-pion transition form factor $γ\, γ^{\ast} \to π^0$ at two loops in QCD. The applied techniques are based on hard-collinear factorization, together with modern multi-loop methods. We focus both, on the technical details such as the treatment of evanescent operators, and the phenomenological implications. Our results indicate that the two-loop correction is numerically comparable to the one-loop effect in the same kinematic domain. We also demonstrate that our results will play a key role in disentangling various models for the twist-two pion distribution amplitude thanks to the envisaged precision at Belle II.

QCD factorization for twist-three axial-vector parton quasidistributions

The transverse component of the axial-vector correlation function of quark fields is a natural starting object for lattice calculations of twist-3 nucleon parton distribution functions. In this work we derive the corresponding factorization expression in terms of twist-2 and twist-3 collinear distributions to one-loop accuracy. The results are presented both in position space, as the factorization theorem for Ioffe-time distributions, and in momentum space, for the axial-vector quasi- and pseudodistributions.

QCD factorization for chiral-odd parton quasi- and pseudo-distributions

We study chiral-odd quark-antiquark correlation functions suitable for lattice calculations of twist-three nucleon parton distribution functions $h_L(x)$ and $e(x)$, and also the twist-two transversity distribution $δq(x)$. The corresponding factorized expressions are derived in terms of the twist-two and twist-three collinear distributions to one-loop accuracy. The results are presented both in position space, as the factorization theorem for Ioffe-time distributions, and in momentum space, for quasi- and pseudo-distributions. We demonstrate that the twist-two part of the $h_L$ quasi(pseudo)-distribution can be separated from the twist-three part by virtue of an exact Jaffe-Ji-like relation.

Two-photon processes in conformal QCD: Resummation of the descendants of leading-twist operators

Using some techniques of conformal field theories, we find a closed expression for the contribution of leading twist operators and their descendants, obtained by adding total derivatives, to the operator product expansion (OPE) of two electromagnetic currents in QCD. Our expression resums contributions of all twists and to all orders in perturbation theory up to corrections proportional to the QCD $β$-function. At tree level and to twist-four accuracy, our result agrees with the expression derived earlier by a different method. The results are directly applicable to deeply-virtual Compton scattering and, e.g., $γγ^\ast$ annihilation in two mesons. As a byproduct, we derive a simple representation for the OPE of two scalar currents that is convenient for applications.

Gluon Field Digitization via Group Space Decimation for Quantum Computers

Efficient digitization is required for quantum simulations of gauge theories. Schemes based on discrete subgroups use fewer qubits at the cost of systematic errors. We systematize this approach by deriving a single plaquette action for approximating general continuous gauge groups through integrating out field fluctuations. This provides insight into the effectiveness of these approximations, and how they could be improved. We accompany the scheme by simulations of pure gauge over the largest discrete subgroup of $SU(3)$ up to the third order.

Scale-dependence of the $B$-meson LCDA beyond leading order from conformal symmetry

We argue that the evolution kernel for the scale-dependence of the $B$-meson light-cone distribution amplitude (LCDA) can be written, to all orders in perturbation theory, in terms of the generator of special conformal transformations in a modified theory: QCD at critical coupling in non-integer $d\neq 4$ dimensions. Explicit expression for the eigenfunctions of the evolution kernel is derived that is valid, again, to all orders. From a practitioner's point of view the utility of this representation is that it allows to "save one loop" and obtain the evolution kernel to a given order of perturbation theory, up to a constant term, from the calculation of the conformal anomaly at one order less. This construction is verified by explicit calculation at two-loop level.

Two-loop evolution equation for the B-meson distribution amplitude

We derive the two-loop evolution equation of the B-meson light-cone distribution amplitude which is the last missing element for the next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic resummation of QCD corrections to B decays in QCD factorization. We argue that the evolution kernel to all orders in perturbation theory can be written as a logarithm of the generator of special conformal transformations times the cusp anomalous dimension, up to a scheme-dependent overall constant. Up to this constant term, the evolution kernel to a given order in perturbation theory can be obtained from the calculation of special conformal anomaly at one order less.

What can be learned from the transition form factor $γ^*γ^*\toη'$: feasibility study

We present an analysis of the recent measurement of $η'$-meson production by two virtual photons made by BaBar collaboration. It is the first measurement of a transition form factor which is entirely within the kinematic regime of the collinear factorization approach and thus provides a clean test of QCD factorization theorem for distribution amplitudes (DAs). We demonstrate that the data is in agreement with the perturbative QCD. Also, we show that it is sensitive to power corrections to the factorization theorem and to the decay constants. We discuss features of the meson production cross-section and point out the kinematic regions that are sensitive to interesting physics. We also provide an estimation of uncertainties on the extraction of DA parameters.

On operator mixing in fermionic CFTs in non-integer dimensions

We consider renormalization of four-fermion operators in the critical QED and $SU(N_c)$ version of Gross--Neveu--Yukawa model in non-integer dimensions. Since the number of mixing operators is infinite, the diagonalization of an anomalous dimension matrix becomes a nontrivial problem. At leading order, construction of eigen-operators is equivalent to solving certain three-term recurrence relations. We find analytic solutions of these recurrence relations that allows to determine the spectrum of anomalous dimensions and study their properties.

Scouring meson decays for true muonium

Rare meson decay experiments promise to measure branching ratios as small as $10^{-13}$. This presents an opportunity to discover the $μ^+μ^-$ bound state true muonium. We consider a set of possible channels, all with branching ratios above $\sim10^{-11}$. For the electromagnetic decays $η/η'\rightarrow(μ^+μ^-)γ$, theoretical and phenomenological form factors $F_{η/η'γγ^*}(Q^2)$ allow predictions of $\mathcal{BR}(η'\rightarrow (μ^+μ^-) γ)\sim 4.8\times10^{-10}$ and $\mathcal{BR}(η'\rightarrow (μ^+μ^-) γ)\sim 3.7\times10^{-11}$ at the 5% level. Discussion of experimental prospects and potential backgrounds are made.
