Rank and Scale Tests of Shell-Motivated Fermion-Mass Ansatze with a Constrained Neutrino Extension

We study whether the observed hierarchy of quark and lepton masses can be described by a small set of simple relations between the three fermion generations. Using the nine charged-fermion Yukawa couplings at the common scale M_Z, we distinguish genuine mass relations from those that arise simply because a model has enough freedom to reproduce the data. A systematic scan of projector-based models identifies a particularly accurate relation between the first- and third-generation mass slopes. We then construct more restrictive models that also constrain the second generation and test them by leave-one-out reconstruction. Several six-parameter models predict all nine charged masses with errors of only a few percent; the best fixed models reduce the worst leave-one-out error to about 4% without adding continuous parameters. We also give a possible microscopic interpretation of the most successful integer relations. Two mass-independent combinations of Standard-Model quantum numbers reproduce the required charged-sector pattern, and simple twofold or threefold matching classes fix the relative coefficient before the masses are used. In a separate two-loop running test, a down-sector ratio close to 1/15 near 6 x 10^6 GeV evolves to a value close to 1/14 at M_Z. The same framework gives neutrino-mass sums near 0.059-0.061 eV for normal ordering, while one family also allows inverted ordering near 0.103 eV. These results do not prove preons or fermion compositeness, but provide concrete targets for future microscopic models.

Equation of State of Dense Matter: Pauli Degeneracy, Pairing Correlations, and Implications for Neutron Stars

We develop a unified description of dense fermionic matter that consistently incorporates Pauli degeneracy, interaction effects, and pairing correlations. The condition that the temperature is much smaller than the Fermi energy leads to a natural separation among the Sommerfeld, Fermi-liquid, and pairing regimes. We show how these contributions enter the equation of state. The resulting EOS is applied to the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations to analyze neutron-star structure. We demonstrate that Pauli degeneracy provides the dominant pressure, interactions determine the stiffness of the EOS, and pairing correlations produce subleading but potentially significant corrections, especially in quark matter. Implications for mass-radius constraints and modern observations are discussed. The quasiparticle interaction in the normal Fermi-liquid phase is parameterized by the isotropic Landau parameter F_0^s and linked explicitly to the compressibility and sound speed. The theoretical mass-radius curves are compared with four recent NICER measurements.

Spiral structure and logarithmic evolution of deuteron form factors: evidence for a transitional regime in QCD

We present a consistent analysis of elastic electron--deuteron scattering combining perturbative quantum chromodynamics (pQCD) scaling, helicity amplitudes, and phenomenological parameterizations of deuteron form factors. Particular attention is paid to logarithmic corrections governed by anomalous dimensions of six-quark operators and to two-photon exchange (TPE). Three classes of parameterizations corresponding to different dynamical regimes are considered: pre-asymptotic valence-quark dominance, effective higher-twist contributions, and modified logarithmic evolution. A global fit to the world data for the structure functions $A(Q^2)$ and $B(Q^2)$, differential cross sections, and tensor polarization observables is performed using a combined strategy of global and local minimization. The best description of the complete data set is achieved within the $f_1$ parameterization, which incorporates pre-asymptotic logarithmic behavior and correlated valence-quark dynamics. Among the considered models, $f_1$ gives the smallest value of $χ^2/\mathrm{dof}$. The obtained results indicate that the presently accessible momentum-transfer region corresponds to a transitional regime between hadronic and quark--gluon descriptions. Helicity-conserving amplitudes dominate, whereas the asymptotic pQCD regime has not yet been fully realized. This may indicate nontrivial multiquark correlations related to hidden-color configurations in the short-distance deuteron structure. The tensor polarization observable $t_{21}$ is especially sensitive to the asymptotic behavior of the helicity amplitudes. Future measurements at larger $Q^2$ may provide a decisive test for distinguishing between the considered dynamical scenarios.

Coulomb interaction in the diffraction description of the $^{12}$C(d,p)X reaction

Within the Glauber-Sitenko diffraction multiple-scattering theory, we calculate Coulomb corrections to the invariant cross section for inclusive deuteron breakup in the $^{12}$C(d,p)X reaction at small proton emission angles. Extending our previous analysis of the longitudinal momentum transfer $Q_z$ and the transverse relative momentum of the final $pn$ pair, we include the proton--nucleus electromagnetic interaction, Coulomb-nuclear interference, and the Coulomb correction to double $pn$ rescattering. For a finite nuclear charge distribution, we derive the Coulomb phase and relate its spatial scale to the measured charge radius. Closed and Yukawa-screened expressions for the proton Coulomb term are obtained. The two-dimensional correction to $pn$ rescattering is reduced to a one-dimensional integral without an independent Gaussian approximation to the full transition form factor. Calculations with the $S$-wave components of the K2 and Nijm-I deuteron wave functions show that the Coulomb effect is concentrated near the quasifree peak. Its interference with the strong amplitude increases the peak height but decreases rapidly with relative momentum. It therefore cannot explain the experimental enhancement at $0.3$--$0.5$ GeV/$c$, where final-state interactions, relativistic corrections, and nonnucleonic components may be important.

Chemical potential of a hadronic fireball in the freeze-out stage

This article explores the van der Waals gas model proposed to describe the hadronic stages of nuclear fireball evolution during the cooling stage. Two different models were proposed for the early and late stages of hadronization. At the initial stage, a two-component meson model consisting of $π^0$ and $π^+$ mesons was suggested, and at the later stage, a two-component nucleon model consisting of protons and neutrons was proposed. The interaction potential for both models was represented by a rectangular well, and the statistical sum was calculated using the saddle-point method. The analytic expressions for pressure and chemical potentials obtained from the model were compared with the corresponding numerical results of other authors obtained earlier using quantum chromodynamics (QCD) methods. The possibility of applying and using the effective chemical potential is also analyzed.

Two-photon exchange and elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electron on polarized deuteron

Structure functions and polarization observables in elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electron on polarized deuteron are considered within approximation of one-photon + two-photon exchange. It is shown that contribution of two-photon exchange in the generalized structure function A is of order of few percent, while in the generalized structure function B it is of order of 10--20 %. We have found that components T_{20} and T_{21} of tensor analyzing power are mainly determined by one-photon exchange, but T_{22} is mainly determined by interference between one-photon exchange and two-photon exchange. We have also considered polarization observables T_{11}, C_{21} and C_{22} which are proportional to imaginary part of the reaction amplitude and vanish in the framework of one-photon exchange.
