Identification of MHD equilibrium $\beta$ limits for CFQS plasmas

The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equilibrium $\beta$ limits in the Chinese First QuasiAxisymmetric Stellarator (CFQS) are investigated using the NTEC code, for both the standard and the magnetic island configurations. The equilibrium $\beta$ limit is identified upon the onset of the rapid destruction of nested flux surfaces by evaluating several numerical metrics, including the fractal dimension, weighted Birkhoff average, and effective volume of parallel diffusion. In the standard configuration, the net-current-free and the bootstrap-current-carrying equilibria can sustain well-ordered magnetic surfaces up to $\langle\beta\rangle\approx1.5\%$. The proliferation of stochastic field lines starts after the critical overlap between the internal major islands and the high-order island chains. Two types of divertor island configurations are studied based on net-current-free equilibria. It is found that the edge islands may transition into open field lines at low $\langle\beta\rangle$ values and lead to a drastic shrinkage of the last closed flux surface. Meanwhile, the threshold $\langle\beta\rangle$ value of the degradation of inner flux surfaces is similar to the standard configuration.

Systematic comparison of VMEC and HINT equilibrium calculations for finite-beta LHD plasmas

A systematic comparison between VMEC and HINT equilibrium calculations has been carried out for Large Helical Device plasmas to clarify the influence of the assumption of the nested flux surfaces at finite beta. Three vacuum magnetic-axis configurations, $R_{\rm axV} = \SI{3.53}{\, m}$, $\SI{3.60}{\, m}$, $\SI{3.85}{\, m}$, are examined for the beta values on the axis in the range $\beta_0 \in [0.0\%, 5.0\%]$. The magnetic-axis position, the rotational transform on the axis, and the plasma volume enclosed by the last closed flux surface are compared between the two codes. At low-$\beta_0$, VMEC and HINT give consistent equilibria, indicating that the nested flux surfaces are largely preserved. Above a configuration-dependent critical $\beta_0$, however, the two solutions begin to diverge, indicating that the nested flux surfaces assumption is compromised. In HINT, the enclosed plasma volume decreases at higher beta because the stochastic magnetic field evolves near the plasma edge, whereas VMEC cannot represent this flux surface breaking due to its assumption of nested flux surfaces. These results show that the 3D equilibrium responses in LHD equilibria become increasingly important from inward- to outward-shifted configurations, mainly through Pfirsch-Schl\"uter current-driven perturbations of the magnetic field and the resulting edge stochasticity.

Development of a Simple Stellarator using Tilted Circular Toroidal Field Coils

This study investigates a simplified stellarator configuration employing circular coils, in which rotational transform is generated by tilting the toroidal field (TF) coils. A pair of axisymmetric poloidal field (PF) coils is introduced to compensate for the vertical magnetic field component produced by the tilted TF coils, together forming the three-dimensional magnetic configuration. The existence of clear, nested magnetic flux surfaces is confirmed through magnetic field-line tracing, and the corresponding vacuum free-boundary equilibrium is computed using the DESC solver. The coil set is partially optimized by varying the TF coil radius and tilt angle to reduce neoclassical transport and enhance alpha-particle confinement. The optimized configuration is compared with fully optimized stellarators such as W7-X and LHD in terms of alpha-particle confinement and the Gamma_C proxy. The neoclassical transport coefficient D11 is evaluated and found to be low. Collisionless guiding-center orbit calculations for 100 eV protons and 3.5 MeV alpha particles further demonstrate favorable confinement properties.

Jacobian-Adaptive Weighting for Stability: Enhancing Long-term Rollout of Neural Partial Differential Equation Solvers via Spatially-Adaptive Regularization

Data-driven surrogate models can significantly accelerate the simulation of continuous dynamical systems, yet the step-wise accumulation of errors during autoregressive time-stepping often leads to spectral blow-up and unphysical divergence. Existing global regularization techniques can enforce contractive dynamics but uniformly damp high-frequency features, causing over-smoothing; meanwhile, long-horizon trajectory optimization methods are severely constrained by memory bottlenecks. This paper proposes Jacobian-Adaptive Weighting for Stability (JAWS), which reformulates operator learning as a Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) estimation problem with spatially heteroscedastic uncertainty, enabling the regularization strength to adapt automatically based on local physical complexity: enforcing contraction in smooth regions to suppress noise while relaxing constraints near singular features such as shocks to preserve gradient information. Experiments demonstrate that JAWS serves as an effective spectral pre-conditioner for trajectory optimization, allowing short-horizon, memory-efficient training to match the accuracy of long-horizon baselines. Validations on the 1D viscous Burgers' equation and 2D flow past a cylinder ($\text{Re}=400$ out-of-distribution generalization) confirm the method's advantages in long-term stability, preservation of physical conservation properties, and computational efficiency. This significant reduction in memory usage makes the method particularly well-suited for stable and efficient long-term simulation of large-scale flow fields in practical engineering applications.

BRIDGE: Borderless Reconfiguration for Inclusive and Diverse Gameplay Experience via Embodiment Transformation

Training resources for parasports are limited, reducing opportunities for athletes and coaches to engage with sport-specific movements and tactical coordination. To address this gap, we developed BRIDGE, a system that integrates a reconstruction pipeline, which detects and tracks players from broadcast video to generate 3D play sequences, with an embodiment-aware visualization framework that decomposes head, trunk, and wheelchair base orientations to represent attention, intent, and mobility. We evaluated BRIDGE in two controlled studies with 20 participants (10 national wheelchair basketball team players and 10 amateur players). The results showed that BRIDGE significantly enhanced the perceived naturalness of player postures and made tactical intentions easier to understand. In addition, it supported functional classification by realistically conveying players' capabilities, which in turn improved participants' sense of self-efficacy. This work advances inclusive sports learning and accessible coaching practices, contributing to more equitable access to tactical resources in parasports.

Nonlinear MHD simulation of core plasma collapse events in stellarators

The core collapse events observed in a stellarator experiment are studied by a three-dimensional nonlinear MHD simulations. In the low magnetic shear configuration like the Wendelstein 7-X, the rotational transform profile is very sensitive to the toroidal current density. The 3D equilibrium with localized toroidal current density is studied. If the toroidal current density follows locally in the middle of the plasma minor radius, the rotational transform is also changed locally. Sometimes, the magnetic topology changes due to appearing the magnetic island. The nonlinear behaviors of the MHD instability are studied by a full three-dimensional nonlinear MHD code. It was found that a following sequence. At first, the high-n ballooning-type mode structure appears in the plasma core, and then the mode linearly grows. The high-n ballooning modes nonlinearly couple and saturate. The mode structure changes to the low-n mode. In that phase, the magnetic field structure becomes strongly stochastic into the plasma core due to the nonlinear coupling. Finally, the plasma pressure diffuses along the stochastic field lines, and then the core plasma pressure drops. This is an important results to interpret the core collapse event by strong nonlinear coupling.

Design of simple stellarator using tilted toroidal field coils

This paper deals with the design of the stellarator field with the simple coil set. In order to realize the stellarator field by the simple coil set, the tilted toroidal field coil uses for creating the rotational transform. Sixteen tilted TF coils create the small radial field and large vertical field. With reducing the vertical field of the tilted toroidal field coil by the axisymmetric poloidal field coil, the stellarator field can be made. The formation of clear and nested flux surfaces is confirmed, and the rotational transform is proportional to the tilting angle of the toroidal field coil. Main components of the magnetic field for the simple stellarator in this paper are the large mirror ripple and small helical ripple. This is a similar property to the quasi-isodynamic configuration like the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator. The collisionless orbit for the proton is studied. For a moderate tilting angle of the toroidal field coil, the confinement of the passing and trapped particles improves.

Spatial distributions of Balmer series emissions in divertor plasmas with tungsten targets in different magnetic configurations on the EAST superconducting tokamak

The characteristics of wall recycling with different divertor configurations were investigated in this study, focusing on the observations of the spatial distributions of deuterium atomic emissions in the Balmer series (D_α, D_β, D_γ, and D_δ) with different magnetic field configurations in the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak. The observed D_α and D_β emissions were primarily relatively close to the divertor targets, while the D_γ and D_δ emissions were primarily relatively close to the X-point. The distributions of the emissions close to the divertor targets and X-point changed differently depending on the divertor configuration. These experimental results indicate that the linear comparison of parameters based on an assumption of similarity of profile shapes in different configurations is insufficient for understanding particle recycling in divertor plasmas. This is because the shape of the density profile of the recycled deuterium atoms and/or the electron density and temperature may change when the magnetic configuration is altered.

New Constructions for Query-Efficient Locally Decodable Codes of Subexponential Length

A $(k,δ,ε)$-locally decodable code $C: F_{q}^{n} \to F_{q}^{N}$ is an error-correcting code that encodes each message $\vec{x}=(x_{1},x_{2},...,x_{n}) \in F_{q}^{n}$ to $C(\vec{x}) \in F_{q}^{N}$ and has the following property: For any $\vec{y} \in {\bf F}_{q}^{N}$ such that $d(\vec{y},C(\vec{x})) \leq δN$ and each $1 \leq i \leq n$, the symbol $x_{i}$ of $\vec{x}$ can be recovered with probability at least $1-ε$ by a randomized decoding algorithm looking only at $k$ coordinates of $\vec{y}$. The efficiency of a $(k,δ,ε)$-locally decodable code $C: F_{q}^{n} \to F_{q}^{N}$ is measured by the code length $N$ and the number $k$ of queries. For any $k$-query locally decodable code $C: F_{q}^{n} \to F_{q}^{N}$, the code length $N$ is conjectured to be exponential of $n$, however, this was disproved. Yekhanin [In Proc. of STOC, 2007] showed that there exists a 3-query locally decodable code $C: F_{2}^{n} \to F_{2}^{N}$ such that $N=\exp(n^{(1/\log \log n)})$ assuming that the number of Mersenne primes is infinite. For a 3-query locally decodable code $C: F_{q}^{n} \to F_{q}^{N}$, Efremenko [ECCC Report No.69, 2008] reduced the code length further to $N=\exp(n^{O((\log \log n/ \log n)^{1/2})})$, and also showed that for any integer $r>1$, there exists a $k$-query locally decodable code $C: F_{q}^{n} \to F_{q}^{N}$ such that $k \leq 2^{r}$ and $N=\exp(n^{O((\log \log n/ \log n)^{1-1/r})})$. In this paper, we present a query-efficient locally decodable code and show that for any integer $r>1$, there exists a $k$-query locally decodable code $C: F_{q}^{n} \to F_{q}^{N}$ such that $k \leq 3 \cdot 2^{r-2}$ and $N=\exp(n^{O((\log \log n/ \log n)^{1-1/r})})$.
