The Emden-Fowler equation on a spherical cap of $\mathbb{S}^N$

Let $\mathbb{S}^N\subset\mathbb{R}^{N+1}$, $N\ge 3$, be the unit sphere, and let $S_Θ\subset\mathbb{S}^N$ be a geodesic ball with geodesic radius $Θ\in(0,π)$. We study the bifurcation diagram $\{(Θ,\left\|U\right\|_{\infty})\}\subset\mathbb{R}^2$ of the radial solutions of the Emden-Fowler equation on $S_Θ$ $Δ_{\mathbb{S}^N}U+U^p=0$ in $S_Θ$, $U=0$ on $\partial S_Θ$, $U>0$ in $S_Θ$, where $p>1$. Among other things, we prove the following: For each $p>p_{\rm S}:=(N-2)/(N+2)$, there exists $\underlineΘ\in(0,π)$ such that the problem has a radial solution for $Θ\in(\underlineΘ,π)$ and has no radial solution for $Θ\in(0,\underlineΘ)$. Moreover, this solution is unique in the space of radial functions if $Θ$ is close to $π$. If $p_{\rm S}<p<p_{\rm JL}$, then there exists $Θ^*\in(\underlineΘ,π)$ such that the problem has infinitely many radial solutions for $Θ=Θ^*$, where $p_{\rm JL}= 1+\frac{4}{N-4-2\sqrt{N-1}}$ if $N\ge 11$, $p_{\rm JL}=\infty$ if $2\le N\le 10$. Asymptotic behaviors of the bifurcation diagram as $p\to\infty$ and $p\downarrow 1$ are also studied.

Infinitely many nonradial singular solutions of $Δu+e^u=0$ in $\mathbb{R}^N\backslash\{0\}$, $4\le N\le 10$

We construct countably infinitely many nonradial singular solutions of the problem \[ Δu+e^u=0\ \ \textrm{in}\ \ \mathbb{R}^N\backslash\{0\},\ \ 4\le N\le 10 \] of the form \[ u(r,σ)=-2\log r+\log 2(N-2)+v(σ), \] where $v(σ)$ depends only on $σ\in \mathbb{S}^{N-1}$. To this end we construct countably infinitely many solutions of \[ Δ_{\mathbb{S}^{N-1}}v+2(N-2)(e^v-1)=0,\ \ 4\le N\le 10, \] using ODE techniques.

Multiplicity of bounded solutions to the $k$-Hessian equation with a Matukuma-type source

The aim of this paper is to deal with the $k$-Hessian counterpart of the Laplace equation involving a nonlinearity studied by Matukuma. Namely, our model is the problem \begin{equation*} (1)\;\;\;\begin{cases} S_k(D^2u)= λ\frac{|x|^{μ-2}}{(1+|x|^2)^{\fracμ{2}}} (1-u)^q &\mbox{in }\;\; B,\\ u <0 & \mbox{in }\;\; B,\\ u=0 &\mbox{on }\partial B, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $B$ denotes the unit ball in $\mathbb{R}^n,n>2k$ ($k\in\mathbb{N}$), $λ>0$ is an additional parameter, $q>k$ and $μ\geq 2$. In this setting, through a transformation recently introduced by two of the authors that reduces problem (1) to a non-autonomous two-dimensional generalized Lotka-Volterra system, we prove the existence and multiplicity of solutions for the above problem combining dynamical-systems tools, the intersection number between a regular and a singular solution and the super and subsolution method.
