Expanding Edges of Quantum Hall Systems in a Cosmology Language -- Hawking Radiation from de Sitter Horizon in Edge Modes

Expanding edge experiments are promising to open new physics windows of quantum Hall systems. In a static edge, the edge excitation, which is described by free fields decoupled with the bulk dynamics, is gapless, and the dynamics preserve conformal symmetry. When the edge expands, such properties need not be preserved. We formulate a quantum field theory in 1+1 dimensional curved spacetimes to analyze the edge dynamics. We propose methods to address the following questions using edge waveforms from the expanding region: Does the conformal symmetry survive? Is the nonlinear interaction of the edge excitations induced by edge expansion? Do the edge excitations interact with the bulk excitations? We additionally show that the expanding edges can be regarded as expanding universe simulators of two-dimensional dilaton-gravity models, including the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity model. As an application, we point out that our theoretical setup might simulate emission of analog Hawking radiation with the Gibbons-Hawking temperature from the future de Sitter horizon formed in the expanding edge region.

Alfvénic superradiance for a monopole magnetosphere around a Kerr black hole

We explore superradiance for Alfvén waves (Alfvénic superradiance) in an axisymmetric rotating magnetosphere of a Kerr black hole within the force-free approximation. On the equatorial plane of the Kerr spacetime, the Alfvén wave equation is reduced to a one-dimensional Schrödinger-type equation by separating variables of the wave function and introducing a tortoise coordinate mapping the inner and outer light surfaces to $-\infty$ and $+\infty$, respectively, and we investigate a wave scattering problem for Alfvén waves. An analysis of the asymptotic solutions of the wave equation and the conservation of the Wronskian give the superradiant condition for Alfvén waves, and it will be shown that the condition coincides with that for the Blandford-Znajek process. This means that when Alfvénic superradiance occurs, the Blandford-Znajek process also occurs in the force-free magnetosphere. Then, we evaluate the reflection rate of Alfvén waves numerically and confirm that Alfvénic superradiance is indeed possible in the Kerr spacetime. Moreover, we will discuss a resonant scattering of Alfvén waves, which is related to a "quasinormal mode" of the magnetosphere.

Qubit clock in quantum cosmology

We investigate the emergent time scenario in quantum cosmology based on the Page-Wotters approach. Using a quantum cosmological model with a qubit clock, it is demonstrated how the entanglement between the qubit clock and the geometry derives emergence of a time parameter which defines evolution of the timeless quantum state of the universe. We show the universe wave function conditioned by a qubit clock obeys the standard Schrödinger equation and the Fisher information for the clock state, which quantifies entanglement between the universe and the clock, contributes as a negative energy density.

Interferometry of black holes with Hawking radiation

We investigate the wave optical imaging of black holes with Hawking radiation. The spatial correlation function of Hawking radiation is expressed in terms of transmission and reflection coefficients for scalar wave modes and evaluated by numerically summing over angular quantum numbers for the Unruh-Hawking state of the Kerr-de Sitter black hole. Then, wave optical images of an evaporating black hole are obtained by the Fourier transformation of the spatial correlation function. For short wavelength, the image of the black hole with the outgoing mode of the Unruh-Hawking state has the appearance of a star with its surface given by the photon sphere. It is found that interference between incoming modes from the cosmological horizon and reflected modes due to the scattering of the black hole can enhance brightness of images in the vicinity of the photon sphere. For a long wavelength, the entire field of view is bright, and the emission region of Hawking radiation cannot be identified.

One-dimensional force-free numerical simulations of Alfven waves around a spinning black string

We performed one-dimensional force-free magnetodynamic numerical simulations of the propagation of Alfven waves along magnetic field lines around a spinning black-hole-like object, the Banados--Teitelboim--Zanelli black string, to investigate the dynamic process of wave propagation and energy transport with Alfven waves. We considered axisymmetric and stationary magnetosphere and perturbed the background magnetosphere to obtain the linear wave equation for the Alfven wave mode. The numerical results show that the energy of Alfven waves monotonically increases as the waves propagate outwardly along the rotating curved magnetic field line around the ergosphere, where energy seems not to be conserved, in the case of energy extraction from the black string by the Blandford--Znajek mechanism. The apparent breakdown of energy conservation suggests the existence of an additional wave induced by the Alfven wave. Considering the additional fast magnetosonic wave induced by the Alfven wave, the energy conservation is recovered. Similar relativistic phenomena, such as the amplification of Alfven waves and induction of fast magnetosonic waves, are expected around a spinning black hole.

Tripartite Entanglement of Hawking Radiation in Dispersive Model

We investigate entanglement of the Hawking radiation in a dispersive model with subluminal dispersion. In this model, feature of the Hawking radiation is represented by three mode Bogoliubov transformation connecting the in-vacuum state and the out-state. We obtain the exact form of the tripartite in-vacuum state which encodes structure of multipartite entanglement. Bogoliubov coefficients are computed by numerical calculation of the wave equation with subluminal dispersion and it is found that genuine tripartite entanglement persists in whole frequency range up to the cutoff arisen from the subluminal dispersion. In the low frequency region, amount of genuine tripartite entanglement is small compared to bipartite entanglement between the Hawking particle and its partner mode, and the deviation from the thermal spectrum is negligible. On the other hand, in the high frequency region near the cutoff, entanglement is equally shared by two pairs of three modes and the partner picture of the Hawking radiation does not hold.

Violation of Bell-CHSH inequalities through optimal local filters in the vacuum

We investigate quantum correlations appearing for two qubit detectors which are initially uncorrelated and locally coupled to a massless scalar field in a vacuum state. Under the perturbation up to the second order in the coupling, the state of the detectors can be entangled through the interaction with the scalar field but satisfies the Bell-CHSH inequality. The violation of the Bell-CHSH inequality for such an entangled state is revealed by local filtering operations. In this paper, we construct the optimal filtering operations for the qubit detectors and derive the success probability of the filtering. The success probability characterizes the reliability of revealing the violation of the Bell-CHSH inequality by the filtering operations. Through these analyses, we demonstrate a trade-off relation between the success probability and the size of parameter region showing the violation of the Bell-CHSH inequality.

Null wave front as Ryu-Takayanagi surface

The Ryu-Takayanagi formula provides the entanglement entropy of quantum field theory as an area of the minimal surface (Ryu-Takayangi surface) in a corresponding gravity theory. There are some attempts to understand the formula as a flow rather than as a surface. In this paper, we propose that null rays emitted from the AdS boundary can be regarded as such a flow. In particular, we show that in spherical symmetric static spacetimes with a negative cosmological constant, wave fronts of null geodesics from a point on the AdS boundary become extremal surfaces and therefore they can be regarded as the Ryu-Takayanagi surfaces. In addition, based on the viewpoint of flow, we propose a wave optical formula to calculate the holographic entanglement entropy.

Squeezing of primordial gravitational waves as quantum discord

We investigate the squeezing of primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) in terms of quantum discord. We construct a classical state of PGWs without quantum discord and compare it with the Bunch-Davies vacuum. Then it is shown that the oscillatory behavior of the angular-power spectrum of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) fluctuations induced by PGWs can be the signature of the quantum discord of PGWs. In addition, we discuss the effect of quantum decoherence on the entanglement and the quantum discord of PGWs for super-horizon modes. For the state of PGWs with decoherence effect, we examine the decoherence condition and the correlation condition introduced by C. Kiefer et al. (Class. Quantum Grav. 24 (2007) 1699). We show that the decoherence condition is not sufficient for the separability of PGWs and the correlation condition implies that the PGWs in the matter-dominated era have quantum discord.

Blandford-Znajek process as Alfvénic superradiance

The superradiant scattering of Alfvén waves (Alfvénic superradiance) in a forcefree magnetosphere is discussed to reveal the relationship between the Blandford-Znajek (BZ) process and superradiance. For simplicity, we consider a four-dimensional rotating black string spacetime of which each $z=\text{const}$ slice is a Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli solution as an analogy of the equatorial plane of the Kerr spacetime. Then, it is confirmed that the condition for Alfvénic superradiance coincides with that for the BZ process, and the wave amplification can be very large due to a resonant scattering for some parameter sets of the wave frequency and the angular velocity of the magnetic field line. Moreover, by analysis of the Poynting flux, we first show that the BZ process can be interpreted as the long wavelength limit of Alfvénic superradiance.

Wave Optics in Spacetimes with Compact Gravitating Object

We investigate the wave optics in spherically symmetric spacetimes: Schwarzschild black hole, spherical star with a perfect absorbing surface, and massless/massive Ellis wormholes. Assuming a point wave source, wave pattern and power spectrums for scattering waves are obtained by solving the scalar wave equation numerically. We found that the power spectrum at the observer in the forward direction shows oscillations with two characteristic periods determined by the interference effect associated with the photon sphere and the diffraction effect due to the absorbing boundary condition inside of the photon sphere.

Clock Time in Quantum Cosmology

We consider the conditioning of the timeless solution to the Wheeler-DeWitt equation by a predefined matter clock state in the simple scenario of de Sitter universe. The resulting evolution of the geometrodynamical degree of freedom with respect to clock time is characterized by the "Berry connection" of the reduced geometrodynamical space, which relies on the coupling of the clock with the geometry. When the connection vanishes, the standard Schrödinger equation is obtained for the geometry with respect to clock time. When one considers environment-induced decoherence in the semi-classical limit, this condition is satisfied and clock time coincides with cosmic time. Explicit results for the conditioned wave functions for minimal clocks made up of two quantum harmonic oscillator eigen-states are shown.

Quantum Circuit Model of Black Hole Evaporation

We consider a quantum circuit model describing the evaporation process of black holes. We specifically examine the behavior of the multipartite entanglement represented by this model, and find that the entanglement structure depends on the black hole mass $M$ and the frequency of the Hawking radiation $ω$. For sufficiently small values of $Mω$, the black hole and the radiation system becomes a separable state after the Page time and a firewall-like structure appears. On the contrary, for larger values of $Mω$, the entanglement between the black hole and the radiation is not lost. These behaviors imply that owing to the monogamy property of the multipartite entanglement, low frequency modes of the Hawking radiation destroys the quantum correlation between the black hole and the emitted Hawking radiation.

Large scale quantum entanglement in de Sitter spacetime

We investigate quantum entanglement between two symmetric spatialregions in de Sitter space with the Bunch-Davies vacuum. As a discretized model of the scalar field for numerical simulation, we consider a harmonic chain model. Using the coarse-grained variables for the scalar field, it is shown that the multipartite entanglement on the superhorizon scale exists by checking the monogamy relation for the negativity which quantifies the entanglement between the two regions. Further, we consider the continuous limit of this model without coarse-graining and find that non-zero values of the logarithmic negativity exist even if the distance between two spatial regions is larger than the Hubble horizon scale.

The decoherence and interference of cosmological arrows of time for a de Sitter universe with quantum fluctuations

We consider the superposition of two semiclassical solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for a de Sitter universe, describing a quantized scalar vacuum propagating in a universe that is contracting in one case and expanding in the other, each identifying a opposite cosmological arrow of time. We discuss the suppression of the interference terms between the two arrows of time due to environment-induced decoherence caused by modes of the scalar vacuum crossing the Hubble horizon. Furthermore, we quantify the effect of the interference on the expectation value of the observable field mode correlations, with respect to an observer that we identify with the spatial geometry.

Soft-Hair-Enhanced Entanglement Beyond Page Curves in a Black-hole Evaporation Qubit Model

We propose a model with multiple qubits that reproduces the thermal properties of 4-dimensional (4-dim) Schwarzschild black holes (BHs) by simultaneously taking account of the emission of Hawking particles and the zero-energy soft hair evaporation at horizon. The results verify that the entanglement entropy between a qubit and other subsystems, including emitted radiation, is much larger than the BH entropy analogue of the qubit, as opposed to the Page curve prediction. Our result suggests that early Hawking radiation is entangled with soft hair, and that late Hawking radiation can be highly entangled with the degrees of freedom of BH, avoiding the emergence of a firewall at the horizon.

Entanglement dynamics in de Sitter spacetime

We apply the master equation with dynamical coarse graining approximation to a pair of detectors interacting with a scalar field. By solving the master equation numerically, we investigate evolution of negativity between comoving detectors in de Sitter space. For the massless conformal scalar field, it is found that a pair of detectors can perceive entanglement beyond the Hubble horizon scale if the initial separation of detectors is sufficiently small. At the same time, violation of the Bell-CHSH inequality on the super horizon scale is also detected. For the massless minimal scalar field, on the other hand, the entanglement decays within Hubble time scale owing to the quantum noise caused by particle creations in de Sitter space and the entanglement on the super horizon scale cannot be detected.

Quantum Cramer-Rao bound for a Massless Scalar Field in de Sitter Space

How precisely can we estimate cosmological parameters by performing a quantum measurement on a cosmological quantum state? In quantum estimation theory the variance of an unbiased parameter estimator is bounded from below by the inverse of measurement-dependent Fisher information and ultimately by quantum Fisher information, which is the maximization of the former over all positive operator valued measurements. Such bound is known as the quantum Cramer-Rao bound. We consider the evolution of a massless scalar field with Bunch-Davies vacuum in a spatially flat FLRW spacetime, which results in a two-mode squeezed vacuum out-state for each field wave number mode. We obtain the expressions of the quantum Fisher information as well as the Fisher informations associated to occupation number measurement and power spectrum measurement, and show the specific results of their evoluation for pure de Sitter expansion and de Sitter expansion followed by a radiation-dominated phase as examples. We will discuss these results from the point of view of the quantum-to-classical transition of cosmological perturbations and show quantitatively how this transition and the residual quantum correlations affect the bound on the precision.
